    Woman arraigned for ‘child theft’

    A 42-year-old woman, Ndidi Eze, has been arraigned before an Okpanam Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a two years and seven months old girl at Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

    The suspect was arraigned on a two-count charge of child theft.

    The charge reads: “That you Ndidi Eze on December 21 at Ogbosadi Quarters, Okpanam did conspire with one Chinyere (surname unknown) now at large to commit felony to wit: Child stealing punishable under the Laws of Delta State 2006.

    “That you, Ndidi Eze and one other now at large on the above date and place did steal one Happiness Ujukwu, two years and seven months and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 371 (1) of the criminal code law Cap c21 Volume 1Laws of Delta State

    The suspect was remanded at the Agbor Prison custody.

    Magistrate C.E Osuma adjourned the case till February 12.

    Four arraigned for ‘defrauding’ ex-lawmaker Eyiboh of $1.362m, N46.5m

    The Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) yesterday arraigned four men at the Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a former House of Representative member Eseme Eyiboh of $1.362million and N46.5 million.

    Izekor Ogiemonyi, Stephen Victor, Bolade Babatunde, and Alhaji Jimoh Saka were arraigned before Justice Muslim Hassan.

    The Police said between June 2016 and last August at Jatoz Royal Hotel, Osolo Way, Ajao Estate, Lagos, the defendants and others at large conspired to commit the crime.

    They were alleged to have told Eyiboh, who represented Eket Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, that they were accredited representatives of International Foreign Exchange Monitoring Agency/Bureau in Nigeria.

    The Police alleged that the accused persons fraudulently collected $1.362 million in three tranches of $1.230million, $20,000 and $112,000 from the former lawmaker.

    They also obtained N46.5 million from Eyiboh under the pretext that they could use their positions facilitate the purchase and deliverance of vehicles and industrial machines at affordable and official exchange rates to him.

    The alleged offence is contrary to Sections 8(a), 1(1)(a) and 8(9) and punishable under Sections 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act of 2006.

    The defendants pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting counsel Mr. E. A. Jackson, a Chief Superintendent of Police, urged the court not to grant them bail.

    Justice Hassan adjourned until January 19 for ruling on the bail application.

    He ordered that the four men be remanded in prison custody until their bail application is determined.

    The judge fixed February 19 for the commencement of trial.

    Burna Boy arraigned, granted bail

    The Lagos State Police, on Monday arraigned Dance hall and hip hop musician, Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy was yesterday arraigned for alleged robbery of his colleague, Abiye David Jombo aka Mr 2Kay.

    Burna Boy is facing a two count charge of ‘accessory after the fact’ and ‘conspiracy’ preferred against him by the Police Prosecutor, Inspector N. Peters.

    During proceedings yesterday, Burna Boy who was dressed in T-shirt and blue jean trousers pleaded not guilty to the two count charge of ‘accessory after the fact’ and ‘conspiracy.

    The Prosecutor, Inspector Peters said Burna Boy did not disclose to security operatives what he knew about the armed robbery which took place on the 22nd of October.

    Bright Idahosa, counsel to Burna Boy, asked the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

    The prosecutor did not oppose the application.

    However lawyers for Eko Hotel and Suites and Mr 2Kay’s record label Grafton Entertainment opposed the bail application while insisting that Burna Boy is a key witness in a sister case where the main suspects in the armed robbery case against Mr 2Kay are standing trial.

    Counsel to Eko Hotel and Suites, Tayo Reju opposed bail for the defendant. Reju argued that if  Burna Boy was granted bail, it would jeopardize the sister case at a Lagos State Magistrate Court.

    After listening to both parties, the presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi granted Burna Boy bail of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in the like sum.

    She thereafter, adjourned the matter till December 29 for commencement of trial.

    The musician was whisked away in an ash coloured Toyota Sienna.

    Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, in a statement last Friday had alleged that the suspects were paid N50,000 before the attack on Mr. 2Kay and another N50,000 was paid directly by Burna boy after the job was done.

     

  • 21-year-old arraigned for bag theft

    A 21-year-old man, Adebisi Gbenga, has been arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State for alleged theft of a laptop bag.

    The accused, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of alleged stealing.

    The prosecutor, Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on November 18 about 2:30 pm, at New Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the accused stole a bag containing a mini-laptop valued at N20,000.00, primary and secondary school leaving certificates, textbooks and documents belonging to  Gideon Abiodun.

    Akinwale said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

    The Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Afeniforo, granted the accused bail at N50, 000 with two sureties and adjourned the case till December 13 for hearing.

  • Driver arraigned for theft

    A 35-year-old man, Rabiu Omotayo, who allegedly stole N360,000 meant for supply of bread to customers, has been arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    Omotayo, a driver, who lives at Ifako Ijaiye, Lagos, is being tried for alleged stealing.

    The prosecutor, Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed on October 4 in Agidingbi, Ikeja.

    He said the accused worked with Top Crust Bakery and was asked to distribute bread, worth N360,000 to customers.

    “The customers paid the accused and instead of remitting the money into the company’s account, he converted it to his use,” Ogu alleged.

    He said the accused was handed over to the police and arraigned.

    The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Akanni granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties.

    She adjourned the case till November 27 for mention.

  • Sales boy arraigned for alleged theft

    A 20-year-old sales assistant, Ayomikun Aworunse, has been arraigned at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for alleged theft of his employer’s N85,000.

    He was alleged to have squandered it at a night party.

    The accused, a resident of Orioke Street, Ajegunle in Ikorodu, was arraigned for stealing.

    He pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Ajaga Agboko, told the court that the accused committed the offence this month in Ikorodu.

    He said the complainant, Mr. Monday Olatokun, reported the case at Ajegunle Police Station, Ikorodu.

    The offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The Magistrate, Makanjuola Oshodi, granted the accused bail at N100,000 with two sureties.

    She adjourned the case till November 10 for hearing.

  • Man arraigned for allegedly stealing cocoa trees

    A 37-year-old man, Kunle Omotosho, has been arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State for allegedly stealing cocoa trees.

    The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of malicious damage and theft of cocoa trees.

    The prosecutor, Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 25, about 10 am, at Igbo Aso Farm, Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that Omotosho damaged the cocoa trees, valued at N100,000, belonging to Chief Sunday Ogunleye.

    Leranmo alleged that the accused stole logs of tree, valued at N120,000, belonging to the complainant.

    He said the offences contravened sections 451 and 390 (9) of the

    Criminal Code Cap C16 Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

    The prosecutor asked for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

    His counsel, Mr. Peter Ogunkinle, urged the court to grant him bail, promising he will not jump bail.

    The Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade, granted bail to the defendant at N50,000 with two sureties, who must have verifiable addresses and voter cards.

    She adjourned the case till November 21 for hearing.

    Driver arraigned for ‘eating without paying’

    The police in Lagos yesterday arraigned a 32-year-old bus driver, Alex Okoroafor, who allegedly ate a N200 plate of food and sneaked away without paying.

    The accused, a resident of Sango-Ota, Ogun State, is standing trial for alleged cheating and assault at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

    The prosecutor, Clement Okuoimose, alleged that the driver sneaked away after eating the food at Hajj Camp, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on August 25.

    He said the accused cheated Mrs. Queen Emmanuel, who sold the food to him.

    “The accused absconded without paying for the food he ate,” Okuoimose alleged.

    He said Emmanuel saw the driver a few days later and demanded her money, but he assaulted her.

    “When the complainant demanded her money, the accused denied and took a plank with a nail and hit her, injuring her leg.

    “The accused was then arrested,” Okuoimose said.

    The offences contravene sections 173 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(revised).

    The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by the Magistrate, M.I. Dan-Oni, at N50,000 with two sureties.

    He ordered that the sureties must be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State government.

    The case was adjourned till September 27 for mention.

  • Man arraigned for ‘stealing’ batteries

    A 33-year-old man, Umeh Christopher, was yesterday arraigned at an

    Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti State for alleged burglary and stealing.

    The prosecutor, Bankole Olasunkanmi, alleged that the accused committed the offences on August 15 about 7:30a.m., near Igbo Catholic Church, Oke-Ila, Ado-Ekiti.

    He alleged that the accused broke into the battery shop of Mr. Aliu Idowu.

    Olasunkanmi told the court that the accused stole five vehicle

    batteries valued at N90,000, property of Mr. Idowu.

    The offences, he noted, contravened sections 413 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

    The prosecutor asked for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

    The accused pleaded not guilty. His lawyer, Mr. Felix Adewunmi,

    urged the court to grant him bail, promising he would not escape.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Idowu Ayenimo, granted the

    accused bail at N100,000 with two sureties.

    He adjourned the case till September 11 for hearing.

  • Four arraigned for ‘stealing’ N1.4m phones

    Four men — Richard Ekpong, Albert Oguda, Abiodun Lawal and Idris Ibrahim  — who allegedly broke into a shop at Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos, and stole phones worth N1.4 million, were yesterday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    Ekpong, 20, is a student; Oguda, 21, unemployed; Lawal, 22, a trader and Ibrahim, 32, a businessman.

    The accused, who live at Ifako-Agege, Iju-Ishaga, Agbado Crossing and Ishaga, were brought before Magistrate J.A. Adigun on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

    They pleaded not guilty and were admitted to bail of N250,000 each, with two sureties.

    Adigun said the sureties should be employed and show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State government.

    The prosecutor, Godwin Awase, said the accused committed the offences on June 26, at Otigba Street, Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos.

    He said they conspired to break into the shop of Mrs. Mary Botire to steal phones, valued at N1.4 million.

    “The accused burgled the complainant’s shop,” Awase said.

    He said the accused destroyed the burglary proof where an air conditioner was fixed, to gain access to the shop.

    “The accused came with sophisticated weapons, destroyed the burglary proof, removed the air conditioner and entered through the hole to steal,” the prosecutor said.

    He said when they were arrested, they had already shared and sold the phones at cheaper prices.

    The offences contravene sections 287, 306(2) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

    The case was adjourned till September 11 for mention.
