    Driver arraigned for absconding with employer’s bus

    The Police on Thursday arraigned a 33-year-old driver, Musiliu Musa, in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly absconding with his employer’s bus, valued at N850, 000.

    Musa, of no fixed address is standing trail on a one-count charge of stealing.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 24, at Oregun, Lagos.

    Olatunde said the Ford bus belonged to one Mr. Anthony Osas.

    “The accused bolted with his employer’s bus to an unknown destination,’’ he said.

    The prosecutor said that the accused was employed in March but disappeared with the bus in April.

    “The complainant gave the accused his bus which was registered to ply Ojota to Ikeja area of Lagos.

    “The accused, who only worked for a month took the bus in the morning as usual and disappeared with it into thin air, all efforts made to locate the accused and the bus proved unsuccessful,’’ he said.

    “The complainant received information that the bus was seen in Sagamu in Ogun, he got there and saw the bus, but it was damaged beyond repairs.

    “The complainant was told by the residents of that area that the driver of the bus was over-speeding and had an accident.

    “The accused was later arrested after four-month of his disappearance,’’ the prosecutor said.

    The offence, Olatunde said, contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Section 285 prescribes a three- year jail term as penalty for offenders.

    The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    The Magistrate, Mr. Aka Bashorun, adjourned the case till Sept. 21 for mention.

    Man arraigned for breach of public peace

    The police on Wednesday arraigned a 35- year-old man, Fagbenro Folorunsho, in an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court, for alleged conspiracy, breach of public peace and malicious damage.

    NAN reports that the prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 2, 2014 at about 8p.m. at Agbegban area in Okini.

    Abiodun said that the accused conspired with others now at large, to destroy the corner fence of a building owned by one Yekini Oguniyi, which resulted in breach of public peace in the area.

    He said that the accused is standing trial on a three- count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace and malicious damage.

    Abiodun said the offences contravened Sections 516, 249(d) and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimo Sodamade, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety in like sum.

    Sodamade said the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case till Oct. 14 for mention.

  • Shop attendant, driver arraigned for stealing diapers

    A 34 -year- old shop attendant, Bello Kehinde and a driver, Tairu Babatunde, 35, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in  Ebute Metta for allegedly stealing diapers worth N4 million.

    The accused persons were said to have conspired with others at large on August 15, 2015, to steal the product belonging to one Mrs Jacquine Wise at No. 175 Kaduna Street, Crystal Estate Amukoko.

    Tairu , a resident of No19 Coconut Avenue Badagry  and a graduate of the Lagos State University, LASU, was allegedly introduced to Mrs  Wise by his wife (now at large).

    Tairu’s wife was said to have carted the goods away in the early morning of the day at Ebute Ero Market, Lagos.

    It was said that Tairu plotted his wife’s escape before the arrival of the policemen sent to arrest her.

    The accused persons were arraigned on charges bordering conspiracy and stealing .

    The offence, according to the police prosecutor , Sergeant Akhaluode Matthew, contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Counsel to the defendants, Saka Bello, applied for the bail of his client in the most liberal terms.

    The presiding magistrate, Mrs O.I Adelaja, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N400, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

    The case was adjourned till October 10.

  • Teenager arraigned for alleged theft

    A teenager, Tope Oluwashola,  has been arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos for allegedly stealing a computer laptop belonging to one Abiona Olusola.

    Oluwashola, 19, is facing a three-count charge.

    Police prosecutor, Inspector E. I. Nnamonu told Chief Magistrate A. O. Komolafe of Ikeja Chief Magistrate Court that Oluwashola with others, allegedly burgled  Olusola’s at No. 1 Muyideen Adeoye Street, Ogudu Orioke, Ojota last month and stole one Ipad phone valued N115,000, a Niopa laptop worth N95,000 and  N250,000 cash.

    He said the offence is contrary to Section 309(a) and punishable under Section 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

    But the defendant pleaded not guilty.

    Chief Magistrate Komolafe granted the defendant bail for N100,000  and one surety.

    She orderd that the surety must be a blood relation and must show evidence of tax payment and verifiable address.

    She later adjourned the matter to May 21, 2011.

  • 45-yr-old arraigned for impersonating party agent

    The police have arrested a 45- year- old man, Alhaji Ajibola Lukman, for allegedly posing as  an  agent  of Action Alliance  during the last presidential election.

    Ajibola was said to have presented himself as the party’s agent at Awori College, Ojo, Lagos, around 9 am during the collation of votes on March 30.

    He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The charge sheet read in part: “That you Alhaji Ajibola Lukumon ‘m’ on March 30, 2015 at about 0900hrs at a collation centre inside Awori College, Ojo, in the Lagos magisterial district did impersonate by presenting yourself as Action Alliance party agent in which you know is false and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 378(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2011.’

    The defence counsel, Mrs Imelda Adebambo prayed the court to grant him bail .

    The police prosecutor, A.U Moses, told the court that the offence was  punishable under section 378(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The presiding magistrate, O.O Olatunji, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum .The case was adjourned till May 6 for mention.

  • Girl, 18, arraigned for ‘theft’

    An 18-year-old girl, Mary Ogah, has been arraigned at an Ikeja Chief Magistrate court for allegedly stealing gold jewelries valued at N5 million.

    Ogah was arraigned before Chief Magistrate A. O. Komolafe.

    Assistant Superintendent of Police Eranus Nnamonu said the defendant and another at large conspired to commit the alleged offence last March 9, at Alausa Secretariat, Lagos.

    The prosecutor said gold jewelry valued at N5 million belonged to  Mrs. Folashade Ogunnaike.

    The offence is contrary and punishable under Section 409 and 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

    Mrs. Komolafe granted the defendant bail for N1 million, with a deposit of N100,000 with two sureties, who must be a relation and a tax payer.

    She adjourned till March 30.

     

  • 40-yr-old arraigned over N.5m fraud

    A 40 year old man, Ademola  Kadiri has been arraigned before an Ebute Meta chief magistrate court over  alleged fraud.

    The defendant was alleged to have fraudulently obtained the sum of N500,000  from one Kolowole Akeem with the pretence to give him a land.

    He was said to have converted the said money to his own with others at large on the 15th of September, 2014 at about 3pm at UBA Bank at Muritala Muhammed way, Oyingbo EbuteMeta, Lagos.

    He was said to have bolted away with the money but  was later apprehended by the police while in the act to dupe another victim.

    He pleaded not guilty to three count charges of conspiracy and fraud.

    The prosecuting police,inspector  Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant has committed an offence punishable under section 409,312 and 285 of the criminal law of lagos state of Nigeria .

    The defendant’s counsel ,Mrs Beauty Otigi, applied for bail  the defendant in the most liberal terms.

    The presiding magistrate ,E.O. Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 8th of April.

  • Four arraigned for alleged phones theft

    Four persons, Sakiru Olanrewaju, 43; Segun Idowu, 45; Robert Ade, 49 and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 48, have been arraigned in an Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing three smart phones and N100, 000 cash from a Naval Officer.

    The phones worth N112, 000, according to the prosecution.

    The charge reads: “That you, Sakiru Olanrewaju, Segun Idowu, Robert Ade, Ibrahim Abdullahi and others at large, on the 5th day of February, 2015 at about 2:30pm, at Idi-Araba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did rob one Lt. Babatunde Adebayo of one Samsung S4 phone valued at N75,000, one Tecno M5 phone valued at N37,000 and a sum of N100,000 total value being N212,000 and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 295 (1) (2)  (B) of the Criminal Laws of the Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011”

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

    Prosecuting police Sergeant Esther Adesuwa told the court that the defendants committed an offence punishable under Section 295 of the criminal law.

    The defence counsel, Mr Ola Ogunbiyi, urged the court to grant his clients’ bail liberal terms.

    Magistrate M.O Tanimola granted the defendants N500,000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum.

    She adjourned the case till March 23.

  • Labourer, 31, arraigned over alleged theft of employer’s N750,000

    A 31-year-old labourer, Samson Adamu, was on Friday arraigned for stealing his employer’s N750,000.

    Adamu, who gave his address as Pelewura Market, Lagos Island, Lagos, is facing a charge of conspiracy and stealing at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

    He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that Adamu committed the offences alongside others who are now at large, around 12.20 p.m. on Feb. 16, at No. 101/102, Nnamdi Azikiwe St., Lagos Island, Lagos.

    He said that Adamu, who was employed by one Mr Franklin Okeke, a trader, to do some menial jobs, stole a total sum of N750,000 from his employer, spanning some unspecified period of months.

    Koti said that Adamu, along with his accomplices, were alleged to be stealing some amounts from a safe in Okeke’s shop, anytime he left the shop to do some transactions.

    The prosecutor said that luck, however, ran out on Adamu one day when Okeke returned to his shop after a business transaction, only to discover that his safe had been damaged.

    Koti noted that Okeke confronted Adamu, who admitted to have stolen N750,000 from him over a period of time.

    The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    Okeke, the complainant, was in court as a prosecution witness.

    The Magistrate, Mr.  M.L. Owolabi, granted the labourer bail in the sum of N40,000 with two sureties in like sum.

  • Three arraigned for alleged theft

    Three men have been arraigned before a Lagos State magistrate court, Ikeja for stealing and for obtaining N6,697,000 under false pretext.

    The defendant are Ibrahim Sulieman 30 years, Habeeb Quadri 42 years and Rauf Adebayo 44 years.

    They were arraigned before the court presided by magistrate Mrs. E.A. Fabanwo last week on a three count charge of obtaining money under false pretext.

    The Police prosecutor, Inspector A. Samson alleged that the defendants, on May 14 about 10.45am at Ogba conspired to commit felony to wit obtaining money under false pretext and thereby committed an offence and punishable under section 409 of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

    According  Inspector Samson, the defendants had under false pretext obtained the sum of N6,697,000 from one Temilola Akintayo to import fabrics for her knowing same to be false and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 312(1a)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

    The defendant were also alleged to have stolen N6,697,000 being property of one Temilola Akintayo and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 285(1)of the criminal law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.

    The defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

    Magistrate Fabanwo thereafter granted them bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties in the like sum.

    She adjourned the matter till July 22, for hearing.
