    Bride arrested for allegedly poisoning guests at own wedding

    The police in Jigawa State have arrested a bride after she allegedly poisoned the food served to guests at her wedding.

    The incident, which occurred in Jahun Local Government Area of the state, was said to have claimed a guest’s life while the groom lay critically ill in the hospital.

    The identities of the groom and the deceased guest had not been disclosed at press time yesterday.

    The bride’s action, according to eyewitnesses, might have been driven by a personal vendetta.

    Media reports quoted the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Shi’isu Adam, as saying that the matter was being investigated.

    Adam said: “We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill.

    “Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident that occurred during a wedding ceremony in the state.”

    He said the bride and another female were already in police custody and were being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department of the command.

    “We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served,” Adam added.

    The police spokesman said except for the deceased victim, all other guests who ate the poisoned food had been discharged from the hospital.

    Adam said the command was investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and would provide more details as soon as possible.

    “For now, we can confirm that the incident occurred, and we are working tirelessly to unravel the facts.

    “We urge the public to remain calm and assured that justice will be served,” he said.

    A fleeing robbery suspect, Amos Daniel, 36, who snatched his employer’s car on the same day he was employed as a driver, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

    The suspect confessed to having taken the car to his church to give testimony of God’s miraculous provision.

    Two dismissed soldiers, Akeem Suleiman and Abdulau Mohammed, and two civilian members of their gang paraded among other suspects, were alleged to have carried out operations wearing Military headgear. Recovered from the dismissed soldiers were the Military headgear, uniform and identity cards.

    Also paraded was  25-year-old  Thankgod Kesh-David,  who posed as a roadside mechanic to effect repairs on broken-down vehicles, only to disappear with them. 

    Briefing journalists at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, on Tuesday, the spokesman for the command, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, said: “We have successfully arrested a robbery gang through our tactical team based in Surulere. The four-man gang specialized in snatching vehicles at gunpoint from motorists in Lagos. They have been operating for quite a long time. Two of them are dismissed soldiers, one was dismissed in 2014 and the other in 2017. They carried out their crime wearing full military gear.

    “We also have somebody who was employed as a driver. Unfortunately, the employer did not do due diligence. The same day he resumed as a driver, he ran away with the car and could not be traced.

    “Interestingly, he dedicated the car in church the following  Sunday, testifying of what God had done to him.”

    Speaking with journalists, the arrested driver, Daniel, said: “I stole my madam’s Lexus car and took it to the church to testify that God has blessed me. I intended to use it for Uber and use the proceeds to pay my debt. I stole the car on June 23, 2024, the very first day I was employed, and I took it to church on June 30, 2024.”

    Akeem Suleiman, who claimed he was dismissed from the Nigerian Army in 2017 for desertion, told journalists: “I started robbery in April 2024. Anytime we steal a car, I drive it to the receiver’s place. We steal cars randomly. If we see anyone parked and wound down, we drag them out and zoom off in the car. We operate in the Ajah area of Lagos, with a local gun. But we never killed our victims.”

    The Command’s spokesman advised that due diligence should be exercised when employing a driver or domestic staff and they should be taken to the Central Criminal Registry at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon, and the forensic unit before employment. The suspects will be charged in court.

    Man arrested for same-sex activities

    A retired teacher, Ike Okoye, has been arrested for allegedly molesting and engaging in same sex activities with young boys at Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

    The suspect  was nabbed by Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, in conjunction with Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, following a report by the President-General of Isuofia Peoples Assembly (IPA), Chief Jude Chikadibia-Okeke.

    The PG said: “The suspect has been molesting and engaging young men in homosexual activities for a long time but anytime he gets arrested, he usually gets bailed by higher individuals in the state.

    “We caught him over the weekend having sexual relationship with lots of boys and young men and quickly put a call through to Women Affairs Commissioner who instructed us to apprehend him immediately.”

    The suspect denied the allegations, describing it as handiwork of mischief makers.

    He later confessed he had at some point romanced some of the boys, held their private sexual organs, but never penetrated them as they alleged.

    Meanwhile, two of the victims who pleaded anonymity, said they were lured by the suspect with promise of financial assistance.

    Woman arrested over ‘baby theft’

    The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested a 21-year-old woman, simply identified as Blessing, for allegedly stealing a one-month-old baby boy.

    The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

    Hundeyin said the mother of the baby, whose name was not mentioned, reported the case at the Elere Police Division on Monday about 2.30p.m.

    He said the mother reported that about 7.00a.m. on Saturday, while she was sleeping at home with her baby, Blessing allegedly stole her child and went away.

    The command’s image maker said the suspect after stealing the child allegedly went to church to give testimony of giving birth to the baby.

    Hundeyin said the suspect was later traced to the Agbotikuyo area in Agege where the baby was recovered from her. He said an investigation was ongoing on the case.

    A 53-year-old father of seven children, Abdullahi Imman  has been arrested for allegedly s3xually abusing eight girls and one boy between 6 to 11 years at Tayi village area in Minna, Niger state

    Imman, who is popularly called Abba in the community, said that he lured the children into his provisions shop with biscuits and sweets.

    According to him, he normally puts his fingers into their private parts until he is satisfied and promised them more sweets and biscuits if they return again.

    Imman said he cannot help himself from involving in the act despite being married with seven children.

    “I have been into this act since March, 2024. I can ot stop myself even though I am married with seven children. It is an act I cannot stop even though I have tried,” he confessed. 

    The suspect was arrested after reports to the Police at the GRA Police Division. 

    The suspect was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Minna for further investigation while the children were taken to hospital for medical examination.

    Woman arrested for allegedly torturing house maid over N25,000

    A 65-year old woman has been arrested for allegedly inflicting injury on her 19-year old house-help in Ezinifite, Aguata local government area of Anambra state.

    The suspect, Mrs Martha Umenweke, was arrested following a report by a whistle blower who witnessed the ugly incident.

    The victim, Chidiebere Otenyi from Nkanu, Enugu State, said she was accused by her mistress of stealing ₦25,000.

    Chidiebere, who was still in pain at the time of the rescue, however denied the accusation.

    “I’ve lived with my madam for a year and four months but I have been severely punished at the slightest provocation, including being starved.

    “I’m 19 years, but still in primary 3 because she demoted me when I came,” she said.

    It was gathered that one Mr David, an alibi to the suspect, tied up the victim’s hands and legs after receiving the beating.

    Reacting, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, vowed to deal with the suspect.

    Obinabo who was furious over the dastardly act and extent of injury meted on the victim, assured her of justice.

    “The culprit won’t go scort-free since she had the mind to inflict injuries and pain on another person,” she added.

    She said the case had been handed over to the police for further interrogation and prosecution at the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka.

    Father, son arrested for allegedly beating ‘Ponmo’ seller to death in Ogun

    Police have arrested father and son Chizoke Obiadada,54, and Micheal Obiadada, 17, for allegedly beating a ‘ponmo’ seller Tope Owoade, 43, to death.

    It was learnt an altercation erupted between the woman and her assailants, who happened to be her neighbours, snowballing into a fight when she attempted to stop them from sitting on a table she uses to sell Ponmo.

    It was gathered further that during the fight, the Obiadadas allegedly attacked the woman, hitting her with multiple blows from where she sustained injuries.

    She died hours later following profuse bleeding from her womb and private part, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident on Saturday in a statement.

    SP Odutola said the incident  happened on March 28 and was reported to the police the following day by the husband of the deceased, Mr. Isiaka Owoade.

    “The Divisional Police Officer of OGIJO has received a complaint from one Isiaka Owoade “m” a husband of one Tope  Owoade now deceased.

    “He narrated that on the 29th of March , 2024 when he returned from a journey his late wife informed him that on the previous day which was the 28th of March, 2024 at about 2030hrs one Chizoke Obiadada “m”54 years and his son one Micheal Obiadada “m” 17 years, his known neighbours beat his wife and hit with fist blows, beating her up mercilessly and inflicting fatal injuries on his wife which resulted in her bleeding severely from the womb and in her private part when she cautioned the duo not to sit on the work table she uses in selling edible animal skin.

    “He stated that his wife was rushed to Main Frame private hospital and Kunle hospital Atan Agowa, and she was rejected.

    “He further stated that his wife gave up the ghost while she was being taken to a government hospital.

    “Immediately the report was taken, the Divisional Police Officer arrested the culprits and they are currently undergoing preliminary investigations. 

    “The case will be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

    “Meanwhile, effort is ongoing to deposit the deceased in OOUTH Sagamu morgue for post mortem  examination.”

    Prophet, grandmother arrested for killing newborn

    A Prophet, Akinjise Ifeoluwa (40) and a grandmother, Oyewole Margaret (60), have been arrested for killing a newborn.

    The baby was allegedly suffocated to death after the prophet reportedly said the mother would die after 14 days because she slept with another man while pregnant.

    However, police operatives did not find the Police spokesperson Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, in a statement, said a case was reported that the mother, Oyewale Oluwaseun, couldn’t give satisfactory account of her baby’s whereabouts.

    According to her, the mother claimed the baby had died and was buried without informing any family member.

    The statement reads: “In the course of investigation, it was discovered that her mother, Oyewole Margaret, entrusted her care to a native doctor named Akinjise Ifeoluwa, who also claimed to be a prophet.

    Oluwaseun said the Akinjise impregnated her, and, on the delivery day, her mother and Akinjise were constantly communicating through phone, with the prophet telling her to kill the baby because it is an abomination for it to live as it will cause Oluwaseun’s death.

    “The prophet claimed Oluwaseun slept with another man while pregnant for him. After Oluwaseun regained her strength, her mother told her the baby had died and buried with the placenta.

    “However, when the purported place of burial was visited, neither the baby nor the placenta was found.”

  • Alleged human trafficking: NAPIMS’ ex-GGM, Sejebor, arrested in U.S.

    A FORMER Group General Manager of the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), Dafe Sejebor, has been arrested in Houston, United States.

    He was arrested by the Houston Police Department over his alleged involvement in human trafficking.

    Sejebor was arrested along 46 others in an investigation that lasted 10 days with focus on Fort Bend County and the Katy areas of Texas.

    He was retired in August 2015 from NAPIMS, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC),.

    According to Click2Houston, the 47 suspects arrested include 27 woman and 20 men.

    It added that eight were confirmed as victims, including two juveniles, another eight charged with sex and human trafficking-related offenses.

    Some of those charged with sex and human trafficking also face other charges related to unlawful possession of weapons, and narcotics charges and possession of controlled substances, tampering with evidence and prostitution.

    ”We are here to help, first and foremost. We understand the problem of human trafficking. We understand what it does to the victim, how to fix the victim,” said John Wall, an officer with the Houston police department vice-division.

    He went on: “We understand they are scared to come forward, but we are going to do everything in our power to keep them safe, give them the services they need to move forward in life.

    “If you think about it, children (and) young adults spend and an enormous amount of time on social media, and they are vulnerable. They don’t understand the risk involved in talking to individuals they don’t know on that type of forum.

    “And, at the end of the day, we hope we can put the trafficker where he belongs, and that’s in prison.”

  • No serving commissioner arrested – KNSG

    Kano State Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, has debunked rumours being circulated in the social media that the police have arrested a serving commissioner in the state during yesterday’s re-run elections. Garba, who spoke to reporters, also described the reported loss of lives due to violence in some polling units as white lies. Garba therefore called on Kano citizens to disregard these fake news and propaganda and remain calm as collation of results continued.

    He said these negative, false and disturbing reports are nothing but propaganda of the Kwankwasiyya movement of PDP designed and perpetrated to discredit the conduct of the re-run elections in the affected areas as they sense clear defeat. He said the elections were conducted peacefully and smoothly, adding that there was and will not be any infringement of law or wrong doing from the government side as alleged and mischievous spread by the PDP.
