Eze nets historic hat-trick as Arsenal secure 6point gap

Eberechi Eze delivered a sensational performance in his Premier League North London Derby debut, scoring a stunning hat-trick to lead Arsenal to a commanding 4–1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Eze’s treble makes him the first Arsenal player since 1978 to score a hat-trick against Spurs. He also becomes the first Englishman to score in his first league North London Derby for Arsenal since Ian Wright and Kevin Campbell in 1991.

Arsenal began brightly and took the lead in the 36th minute when Leandro Trossard latched onto a clever lob from Mikel Merino before his low strike deflected off a Spurs defender and rolled into the net.

Eze doubled the advantage five minutes later, receiving a pass from Declan Rice, weaving through two challenges, and firing a shot that beat the goalkeeper despite a strong hand.

Just one minute into the second half, Eze struck again—this time meeting a pass from Jurrien Timber and finishing with a clinical low effort to make it 3–0.

Tottenham momentarily fought back in the 55th minute as Richarlison scored with a superb long-range lob over David Raya following a midfield turnover by Martin Zubimendi.

But Arsenal restored their three-goal cushion in the 76th minute when Trossard broke forward from a long ball and found Eze, who danced past his marker and curled a precise finish into the far corner to complete his hat-trick.

The win sends Arsenal six points clear of second-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table.

Speaking after the game, Eze said, “That was the prayer today. God gave it to me and that is faith, man. All my family is here and that makes it even more special for me.

It is special. Words can’t explain this one today.”

Saka dismisses early EPL title talk for Arsenal

Arsenal must shut out external noise and stay grounded, with the Londoners leading the Premier League title race by four points after 11 games, forward Bukayo Saka  has said.

Arsenal have 26 points after eight wins and two draws, having been held 2-2 at Sunderland last weekend, with Manchester City closing the gap following a 3-0 home win over Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s team have conceded only five league goals so far but Saka said they were not getting ahead of themselves.

“We just have to win every game, that’s the mentality we go into the game (with) and see where it leaves us,” he told talkSPORT.

“We cannot get carried away with what people are saying, because one day they say something and the next day they say something else.

“People’s opinion about us changes like the weather. The most important thing is our dressing room, and the foundation and the belief we have in ourselves.”

Arsenal have come second for three straight seasons under Arteta, falling short in 2022–23 and 2023–24 before finishing further behind last year, a sequence of misses that has left them still chasing their first league crown in two decades.

They next host fifth-placed arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur on November 23 following the international break.

Arsenal ask Premier League to move Everton game

Arsenal have asked for their Premier League game away at Everton in the run-up to Christmas be played a day earlier as they look to avoid playing two matches in three days.

It is understood the Gunners have applied for the game, which is currently scheduled for Sunday, 21 December at 14:00, be moved to Saturday, 20 December at 20:00 BST.

The Premier League leaders are scheduled to play their EFL Cup quarter-final against Crystal Palace on 23 December.

The cup game was moved by the EFL from the original date of 16 December because that scenario would have seen Palace, who are competing in the Conference League in Europe, play three times in five days.

Arsenal want to play the Everton game a day earlier to allow extra recovery time for Mikel Arteta’s players before they face Palace.

While Arsenal have made clear their preference for their first visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium be moved to the Saturday, it is understood that is not the only potential date under consideration by the Premier League.

After the EFL changed the date for the cup quarter-final between the two London clubs, Arteta said: “Hopefully they will move our Premier League match, because to play two days later doesn’t make any sense.

“So now we decide the date [for the EFL Cup match] I am sure they will change the Premier League [match] as well.”

EPL: Brobbey’s late strike denies Arsenal victory at Sunderland

Brian Brobbey scored a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser as Arsenal conceded their first goals since September, settling for a 2–2 draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats impressed on their Premier League return, matching an Arsenal side that had won their previous 10 games in all competitions.

Sunderland took a deserved first-half lead through Daniel Ballard — a product of Arsenal’s academy — ending the visitors’ remarkable 812-minute run without conceding.

Arsenal responded strongly after the break, with Declan Rice winning possession in midfield to launch a move finished by Bukayo Saka, who fired in at the near post.

Martin Zubimendi later struck the woodwork before Leandro Trossard seemed to have sealed victory with a brilliant 20-yard finish into the top corner.

But Sunderland refused to give up. After David Raya initially denied Brobbey, the substitute struck again in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn a dramatic point and send the home fans into wild celebration.

The draw leaves Arsenal seven points clear at the top of the table — a gap that could narrow when second-placed Manchester City host Liverpool on Sunday. Sunderland remain unbeaten at home, climbing to third place with the result.

EPL: Arsenal extend lead at top after win against Burnley

Premier League leaders Arsenal continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable win at Burnley to make it nine consecutive victories in all competitions.

Goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Declan Rice sealed the win – their fifth in a row in the league – as Mikel Arteta’s side moved seven points clear at the top, albeit having played a game more than some of their rivals.

It was an impressive victory against a Burnley side that can often prove difficult to break down and had recorded back-to-back victories before facing the Gunners.

But no side has scored more goals from set-pieces than Arsenal this season and it was from one that they took the lead, Gyokeres firing in from close range from Rice’s corner.

Burnley goalkeeper Martin Dubravka produced a one-handed save to deny Bukayo Saka, before Leandro Trossard had an effort cleared off the line.

But Arsenal got their second before the break when Rice powerfully headed in Trossard’s chipped ball.

Burnley saw more of the ball after the break and went close to getting a goal back when Florentino Luis headed over from close range, before Marcus Edwards struck the post from a free-kick with the last action of the match.

That late chance aside it was largely a trouble-free afternoon for Arsenal as they recorded an eighth win in 10 Premier League games this season.

Defeat for Burnley means they are 17th, four points clear of the bottom three.

Gyokeres makes Arsenal a much better team – Arteta

There is never a bad time for a striker to score, but Viktor Gyokeres’ relief was obvious as he ended a barren run with two goals in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid. It can be the start of a prolific spell, manager Mikel Arteta believes.

After three goals in his first four matches, £64m signing Gyokeres failed to find the net in Arsenal’s next seven games and looked visibly frustrated at times.

But his team-mates continued to praise his overall impact and Arteta said he gave the striker a hug after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday in appreciation for the effort he was putting in.

The 27-year-old has had to play more than was planned at this stage of the season because of a knee injury to Kai Havertz, featuring for 90 minutes seven times in Arsenal’s opening 12 matches.

But after finding his clinical touch again in the thumping win over Atletico on Tuesday, Gyokeres’ tally now stands at five goals in 12 matches and his manager thinks the strikes were reward for his persistence.

“He deserved it because everything that we were seeing in terms of what he was bringing to the team and how much he was helping the team in many areas, apart from scoring goals in the last few weeks, there was no debate about that,” said Arteta.

“It was about keeping that belief in himself, that emotional state that he can enjoy and play freely.

“I think he has certainly done that today, [he had] a big smile on his face.

“Look at his team-mates as well, in the picture and the video, they are all so happy for him because he fully deserves it.”
