    Asake’s ‘Work of Art’ album surpasses one billion streams

    With more than one billion streams across the prominent digital streaming platforms, Asake’s sophomore album, titled “Work of Art,” has achieved a significant milestone.

    Barely two months of its release on June 16, Asake’s second studio album, has amassed over 1.2 billion streams.

    The total figure was determined after summing the streams from the top five digital streaming platforms (DSPs), including Apple Music, Audiomack, Boomplay, Spotify and YouTube.

    As at August 28, according to Charts Africa, the album had amassed 135 million streams on Apple Music, 425 million streams on Audiomack, 174.8 million streams on Boomplay, 114 million streams on Spotify, and 180 million streams on YouTube.

    ‘Work of Art’, featuring 14 captivating tracks, includes previously released singles such as ‘2:30,’ ‘Yoga,’ and the latest hit ‘Amapiano,’ which boasts an important collaboration with his boss, Olamide Baddo.

    The YBNL global export provided fans visually spectacular music videos in the run-up to the album release, such as “Amapiano,” that took place in Lagos, “Yoga,” which was captured in Senegal, and “2:30,” directed by Edgar Esteves and shot in Los Angeles.

    ‘Work of Art’ is Asake’s follow-up project to his debut, ‘Mr. Money with the Vibe,’ which was launched on September 7, 2022.

    The debut album was a huge hit and set a record for the highest-charting Nigerian debut album ever.

    It quickly rose to the top of the charts on Apple Music in more than 30 nations, including the UK, Nigeria, Ireland, Ghana, and many others.

    With over 780 million global listens, Asake officially became the first African artist to debut at number one on the UK Apple Music albums chart.

    Asake further cemented his status as a rising star in the global music scene with the release of “Work of Art,” enthralling audiences with his musical prowess and unique aesthetic.

    Afrobeats queen, Tiwa Savage, has congratulated her colleague, Asake alongside his team for their historical outing at the 02 Arena in London on August 20, 2023.

    Like many others, Tiwa acknowledged the ‘greatness’ of the Afro-fusion rave of the moment after he effortlessly sold out the 20,000 capacity home to the world’s most popular music, sport, comedy and entertainment.

    She said that what the singer had in store for the audience was evident from his stunning entrance.

    Tiwa said: “His smash track, “Yoga,” was serenading the eager crowd while he was strapped to the railings of a descending military-style helicopter with rear illuminating his record label, YBNL

    “He kicked off his performance with songs from his debut album “Mr Money With The Vibe,” including “Olorun,” “Organise,” “Sunmomi,” “Dupe,” and “Mr Money.

    “The vocalist continued by performing songs from his extensive discography, including the international smash “Lonely at the Top.”

    Albeit midway into his performance of the song “Loaded”, by Tiwa which featured him, the Afrobeats songstress gave him a pleasant surprise as she surfaced on stage, briefly hugged him and they continued to thrill the crowd.

    Top performers including Fireboy, Fridayy, and his label boss, Olamide Baddo, who was beaming with utmost pride as they performed together, were among the other guests who made appearances at the concert.

    Sharing photos and videos captured during their spectacular outing, Tiwa wrote: “@asakemusic A great guy. Congratulations to you and your whole team.”

    Nigeria Indigenous rapper and record label boss, Olamide Adedeji aka Olamide, has sent a congratulatory message to his music recruit, Asake for selling out the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom.

    The Nation reported that Asake sold out the iconic London arena on Sunday night, making history in the process as the first Nigerian newbie to do so.

    To add finesse to the colourful crowd, Olamide, Tiwa Savage, Fireboy and a host of others joined Asake on stage.

    On his Twitter handle on Monday, August 21, Olamide said Asake’s achievements amazed him.

    The YBNL boss wrote: “@asakemusik Congratulations Mr Mon£y! Thank God for crowning your efforts.. you put in so much work it d muzz me”, he said.

    In the wake of Asake’s sensational performance in his massive sold-out show at the 20,000-capacity London O2 Arena on Sunday, August 20, Shatta Wale affirmed that Naija music stars are way ahead of their Ghanaian counterparts.

    He contrasted the musical prowess of the two West African nations, likening Ghana’s to babies’ feeding bottles and Nigeria’s to one of the world’s most expensive cognac brand bottles.

    The ‘We Taking Over’ singer also expressed his hearty congratulation to YBNL’s Asake on his incredible outing, reiterating Naija’s colossal mark on the global music stage.

    He also suggested Ghanaian singers could begin to rub shoulders with Nigeria if they quit being judgmental towards others.
