    ASUS unveilsZenWatch

    ASUS, a global top-three consumer notebook vendor and maker of the world’s best-selling, most award-winning, motherboards has unveiled ZenWatch, its first wearable device powered by Android Wear and produced in partnership with Google.

    According to the firm, ZenWatch is an exquisitely-crafted watch that seamlessly pairs with an Android smartphone to provide relevant and useful information when it is needed most, and serve as a personal wellness manager.

    It said ZenWatch follows the tradition of fine watch making with its stylish, detail-focused design and use of high quality materials. Its curved glass and case that follows the contour of the wrist, combined with a premium, stitched-leather strap with unique clasp, results in a design that is both comfortable and elegant. ZenWatch comes with a wide selection of instantly-changeable watch faces to fit any style or mood.

    In a statement, it said as a smart companion for Android phones, ZenWatch provides timely information at a glance and lets the wearer get stuff done with a simple touch or voice command. ZenWatch brings the beauty and ease of use of the ASUS ZenUI mobile user interface to an Android wearable for the first time. Users of ASUS smart phones can enjoy seamless integration with ZenUI on their phones, and experience exclusive ZenUI apps like what’s Next and Do It Later in ways that are more convenient and powerful than ever.

    Combining sophisticated sensors with all-day comfort, ZenWatch is also a personal wellness manager that tracks a variety of wellness statistics, such as heart rate, step counts, and relaxation levels to help users keep their lives in balance and achieve personal fitness goals.

    According to the tech giant, employing the attention to detail and level of craftsmanship found in luxury watches, ASUS ZenWatch brings the tradition of fine watch making to Android wearables. “The durable stainless-steel case features an attractive layered design composed of a striking rose-gold-colored band inset between two steel layers. The case is curved for increased comfort and a stylish look, and the watch face is covered with a layer of curved glass that increases usability by providing a smooth surface for easy and responsive swiping gestures.

    “The soft, genuine stitched-leather watchband provides all-day comfort and features a unique clasp design that makes ZenWatch easy to put on and remove. ZenWatch has a universal design that comfortably accommodates a wide range of wrist shapes and sizes,” the statement read.

     

     

  • ASUS unveils Android tablets, others

    Taiwanese technology firm ASUS has announced an innovative tablet lineup that provides users with a selection of tablets for a wide range of computing needs at an IT fiesta, Computex, which took place at Taipei, Taiwan.

    According to a statement from the firm, the products include the new-generation the ASUS Fonepad and the ASUS Transformer Pad Series. All models feature the intuitive ASUS ZenUI, a 64-bit Intel Atom quad-core CPU and Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

    The ASUS Fonepad 7 and 8 (FE375CG and FE380CG) deliver powerful mobility with the latest64-bit Intel Atom Z3560 1.8GHz quad-core processor and3G phone functions. The 8-inch ASUS Fonepad 8 (FE380CG) has the largest viewing area of any 8-inch phablet on the market thanks to a super-narrow bezel measuring just 5.06mm and a 72.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio. It features a HD1280 x 800 IPS display.

    ASUS Transformer Pad (TF103C/TF303CL) provides on-the-go productivity and entertainment with its 64-bit IntelAtomZ3745 quad-core processor (up to 1.86GHz). It features the classic mobile keyboard dock with a new hidden hinge design.

    The latest ASUS Fonepad Series (FE375CG/FE380CG) features the64-bit IntelAtomZ3560 1.8GHz quad-core processor which provides powerful efficient performance to give users a 7 or 8-inch tablet coupled with 3G phone functionality.

    It  has a narrow bezel design for easy one-handed use, with the seven-inch ASUS  Fonepad7(FE375CG) being just 10.9cm wide and the ASUS Fonepad8(FE380CG) measuring 12cm across. The latter, with its 8-inch display, features a 72.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio for a larger display area

    ASUS to assemble mobile phones, computers, others in Nigeria

    Taiwanese technology giant, ASUS Corporation said the firm will establish a factory in Nigeria when it stabilises its operation.

    It also said when that is done, jobs will be created for young school leavers to complement Federal Government’s efforts in job creation.

    Its Regional Director, Turkey, Israel & Africa System Business Group, Shawn Chang, who gave the assurance in Lagos during a briefing, said though the firm is new in the country, it is hopeful that it will get a fair bite of the market.

    Chang said though the firm was coming a little late into the market, its products will stand it out .

    It hopes to launch its range of mobile phone this quarter.

    “On building a plant in Nigeria, it is feasible in the long term. Nigeria is a great country with great opportunities. ASUS will be willing to be part of the growth of the economy through the creation of opportunities for intelligent young Nigerians to realise their dreams in the area of technological skills acquisition.

    “But it is still premature to state categorically when ASUS factory will be sited in Nigeria but I am not ruling out that possibility in the long run. We are one of the global top three consumer notebook vendor and maker of the world’s best-selling and award winning, a leading enterprise in the new digital era.

    “ASUS designs and manufactures products that perfectly meet the needs of today’s digital home and office with broad portfolio that include graphics cards, optical drivers, displays, desktop and all-in-one PCs, notebooks, netbooks, servers, multimedia devices, wireless solutions, networking devices, tablets and smartphones,” Chang said.

    According to the director, the firm is projecting revenue of $14.6billion in its 2013 balance sheet after achieving $14.3billion in 2012.

    He said the firm has seven per cent market share in Middle East and Africa (MEA), adding that the acceptance its products has received in the country has been overwhelming.

    He said the firm is committed to offering products that are tailored to the needs of the Nigerians, arguing that placing the 24-month global warranty on all its products is a mark of their reliability.

     

    products which are all produced as a result of the firm’s huge investment on research and development (R&D).

     

  • Google, ASUS partner on tablet

    ASUS and Google have unveiled a new tablet in Nigeria. It is called the Nexus 7, a 7-inch Android device with tablet screen and built-in wireless charging that eliminates the need for clumsy power cable connections.

    According to a statement, ASUS Chairman, Jonney Shih, said: “After the success of the first Nexus 7, we are very excited to continue our partnership with Google with this new model. The new Nexus 7 puts the very latest mobile technology in users’ hands and sets a new benchmark for tablets.”

    Senior Vice President of Android, Chrome and Apps at Google, Sundar Pichai, said: “Together with ASUS, we took what you loved about the original Nexus 7 and made it even better. It is now thinner, lighter and faster, with the world’s highest resolution screen in a seven-inch tablet. Whether you are sitting at home, in a coffee shop or at the airport, the new Nexus 7 is powerful, portable and made for what matters to you.”

    According to Google, with a vibrant, seven-inch full high definition (HD) display packed with more than 2.3 million pixels for a stunning 323ppi (pixels-per-inch), the new Nexus 7 brings apps, games, books and movies to vivid life with unparalleled image quality. ASUS TruVivid technology improves color clarity and brightness, while IPS display technology gives ultra-wide 178-degree viewing angles.

    Tech firm, ASUS, says it is balancing engineering with humanity with its range of products which are eco-friendly.

    Chairman of the firm, Jonney Shih, made this remark at a media event tagged: “We transform” Computex, which transformed consumers’ expectations about technology. He revealed that balancing engineering with humanity is the firm’s way of ‘Design Thinking’, adding that this informed its new products designed to simplify modern digital lifestyle.

    Said he: “We seek to perfect the balance between engineering and humanity, where every intricate detail echoes our needs for both emotion and function. This is the ASUS way of Design Thinking, where every idea starts with people and we turn our imagination into myriad revolutionary innovations.”

    The firm showcased the ASUS Transformer Book Trio, which it explained is an innovative combination of notebook, tablet and desktop PC for unparalleled flexibility in work, play and social activity.

    It added that the new Transformer Pad Infinity is the world’s first NVIDIA Tegra 4 tablet with a stunning 2560 x 1600 resolution display.

    ASUS also announcedtwo new handheld devices, the 6-inch Fonepad Note FHD 6 tablet with 3G voice-calling and the 7-inch MeMO Pad HD 7 value tablet.

  • ASUS Fonepad for launch

    Technology firm, ASUS, said the ASUS Fonepad, will soon be launched in Africa.

    According to a statement, it is the first Android tablet that runs the new Intel processor and is a budget-friendly option in the market, adding that it was built upon the successes of the ASUS 7″ Android tablet range.

    The Fonepad brings real voice capabilities to a tablet, incorporating all phone and tablet functions into a single device, the firm added.

    Regional Director of Asus Africa, Shawn Cheng, said the continent is central to its business. “Africa is a priority market and ASUS Africa will release all their new products at the same time with other markets. Users will now be able to enjoy the ASUS quality and value without the wait,” he said.

    The Asus Fonepad will have the new 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor Z2420. This processor was specifically designed by Intel for smartphone and tablet devices.

    Intel Country Manager for West Africa, Ekundare Olubunmi, said: “Extending our long history of collaboration, including most recently on the ultrabook and Intel-based tablets, we are very excited on our continued collaboration with ASUS.

    “The new Intel Atom processor Z2420 delivers the power, performance and flexibility required to accommodate a range of devices and market needs. We think the ASUS Fonepad is a very innovative device in an emerging category of 3G tablets with telephony features.”
