  • Why Atiku travelled to USA – Obi

The running mate to Alhaji Abubakar Atiku in next month’s presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, said on Friday that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer is not in the USA to prove any point to anyone.

Obi told reporters at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, that Atiku travelled to Washington DC because it was necessary for him to do so.

The former governor of Anambra State expressed surprise at the dust generated by Atiku’s trip.

His words: “Though he does over 90% of his consultations at home and among Nigerians, now and then, he has to travel to meet different groups, especially those that will be of assistance in the new Nigerian project.”

Obi said that Atiku was pre-occupied on how to create jobs, reduce unemployment in Nigeria, abolish poverty and re-create the Nigerian economy in order to make Nigeria start working again.

He said: “his trip is about engaging partners because he wants to hit the ground running without wasting unnecessary time.

  • Atiku’s visit to U.S. an attempt to score cheap political point -APC UK

The All Progressives Congress (APC) United Kingdom Chapter, says Abubakar Atiku’s visit to the United States would not change Nigerians perception about him.

Mr Ade Omole, Leader, APC UK chapter stated this while reacting to the development in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja.

Atiku’s visit to the U.S was the first in 12 years, following an alleged corruption case.

Mr Paul Ibe, his media adviser, in a statement said Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Candidate, left Nigeria on Thursday for the U.S.

He was accompanied by the Director General of the PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation and President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki.

Ibe claimed that Atiku in the course of his trip would hold meetings with U.S officials, the business community and the Nigerian community.

But Omole faulted the claim, describing the visit as a kangaroo trip meant to score cheap political gain, adding that Nigerians are wise enough to read between the lines and could not be hoodwinked by such untoward arrangement.

“Abubakar Atiku certainly has reasons for not visiting the U.S in the past years, especially because of corruption allegation against him,” he said.

He recalled that records at the U.S congress had it that Atiku engaged in money laundering through his wife who was resident in the country.

Omole maintained that Atiku’s entry into the U.S. is a mockery of President Bush’s Presidential Proclamation 7750 which affirmed denial of entry VISA to foreign officials involved in corrupt practices by the congress.

He, however, said that Atiku’s visit to America would not absolve him of the corruption allegation which had been hanging on him.

Omole stressed that he does not object to Atiku or any Nigerian gaining entry into the U.S., especially when he meets the entry VISA requirements.

He, however, maintained that the visit of the former Vice President, more or less made a mockery of him and the PDP.

“Whether he visits U.S., or outer space, it doesn’t change anything in Nigeria, the electorate have already made up their minds to re-elect President Buhari for a second term come Feb. 16,” Omole said.

He added that the questionable character of an individual no matter how highly placed he may be, does not evaporate by a mere visit to America.

Omole said an individual with questionable character remains so no matter where he visited at any given time, especially if such visit is to score political point.

He noted that while Atiku is busy trying to prove himself clean from corruption allegations with his U.S visit, Buhari is busy campaigning to Nigerians on why he should be re-elected.

He added that the APC had continued to use its scorecard and achievements in all sectors to campaign to Nigerians on why Buhari deserves a second term in office to consolidate on his achievements.

  • Atiku confirms arrival in U.S.

FORMER vice president and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku arrived in the United States (U.S.) yesterday.

In a post on Twitter, he said: “Just arrived Washington D.C for meeting with U.S. government officials, Nigerians living in D.C metropolis and the business community. -AA”, with a photograph, showing him clutching a bouquet of flowers, along with Senate President Bukola Saraki and a woman.

But the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, DC, said it was not sure if the former Vice President would be visiting the U.S. any moment soon.

A source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the embassy was yet to get official information about the former vice president.

The source said: “Actually, we have not received any information for the embassy but we are just trying to find out whether really he is coming. That is what we are doing right now.

“They told us he’s coming tonight, today, so, we are trying to find out whether he’s really coming.

“Mr (Peter) Obi, (Atiku’s running mate), he was to come last week but the event was cancelled.

“So, we are still trying to see but if you get anything, please just let us know also because they said he’s coming here so that if you’re able to get any updated information, just inform us so that we can prepare vehicles to go to the airport and meet him and all that.

“For now, we have no information. If I am able to confirm anything, I will get back to you and please, if you too get any confirmation or any update, just get back to me, just call me.

“As a former vice president, the Embassy is supposed to organise to receive him at the airport and all that, but then we have not received anything in that regards,” the source said.

According to the report, Obi was billed to be in the U.S. last week and was scheduled to have a New Jersey/New York Townhall meeting but the event was postponed.

The PDP vice-presidential candidate is now rescheduled for the New/Jersey/New York USA Town Hall Meeting at Robert Treat Best Western Hotel, New Jersey on Monday, January 21.

The clarification from the embassy came as online reports said Atiku had either landed in the U.S. or had taken off from Nigeria to address the U.S. Chamber of Commerce today, from 2:30pm to 4pm local time.

He was scheduled to be in Ogun State yesterday but the event was cancelled, it said.

Atiku was said to have been issued last December a U.S. visa for the first time in 13 years. The visa was reportedly facilitated by his former boss, President Olusegun Obasanjo, a former foe turned endorser.

But reports said Atiku sensed the visa could be a trap by the Americans and thus asked for a guarantee from the US government that he would not be arrested over a case of money laundering for which there were reports of a sealed indictment by the U.S. Justice Department.

In another case, former Congressman William Jefferson was jailed for 13 years for accepting a bribe from an investor, Lori Mody, who was wearing a wire. Jefferson told the investor that he would need to give then Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar $500,000 “as a motivating factor” to make sure the company obtained contracts for iGate and Mody’s company in Nigeria.

  • Atiku, PDP planning to infiltrate INEC to rig 2019 polls, says Buhari’s group

THE Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) said yesterday that it has unearthed plans by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar to infiltrate the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by sponsoring its supporters to work within the commission as electoral officers.

BMO also said the opposition was deploying massive resources to rig next month’s presidential election.

The organisation said in a statement issued by its chairman, Niyi Akinsiju and secretary, Cassidy Madueke, that the plans of the opposition “to subvert the will of the people”, is the recent recruitment of a former INEC Chairman known to have presided over the worse election in Nigeria’s recent political history.

The group said the rigging plot also involves spending huge sums of money on police personnel and election officials in many parts of the country. It added that the opposition was also plotting to infiltrate the electoral body with their supporters.

The group asked INEC to be vigilant and ensure that PDP supporters were not recruited as electoral officers.

“With their campaign daily losing steam, PDP has also resorted to accusing everyone directly or remotely connected to President Muhammadu Buhari of corruption; after realising that Nigerians are not buying any of their Dubai strategy of lies.

“Their leaders had been working on this plan for a while and had consciously been raising all sorts of allegations and attacking national institutions involved in the electoral process to divert attention from their devious agenda.

“Part of the plot is to discredit INEC’s new election guidelines, which included simultaneous accreditation and voting, and which also barred collation officers from making or receiving calls on election day.

“This same style was successfully test-run in all bye-elections in recent months, including those won by PDP candidates, but the party did not see anything wrong with it until the commission insisted that it would be used during the next elections,” the BMO said.

BMO noted that PDP is also working on infiltrating INEC by embedding its supporters among ad-hoc electoral officials as part of its rigging plan.

It consequently advised the Commission to be cautious in its recruitment plan for the general election.

“We want to place Nigerians on notice that they should be at alert and not allow PDP elements at all levels to subvert the will of the electorate.

“There is also a need for the election management body to properly scrutinise ad-hoc staff to be recruited for Election Day duty as well as pay more than a passing attention to its officials in the run up to the February 16 election.

“This is because PDP, a party that is known for electoral manipulation, and which has a lot of dirty schemes in its kitty to rig the process in favour of its Presidential candidate, needs to be put under close surveillance,” they said.

They dismissed insinuations by the opposition that President Buhari and the APC to rig the election, saying the President has no reason to rig the Presidential election, saying any fear by the opposition was completely misplaced.

In all, 1,904 candidates are vying for the 109 seats in the Senate; 4,680 are to battle for the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.

According to INEC, 225 women are contesting for senatorial seats. The figure is the highest ever.

Five APC governors made the list for election into the Senate. They are Ibikunle Amosun, Ogun; Kazeem Shettima, Borno;  Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo; Rochas Okorocha, Imo and Ibrahim Gaidam, Yobe.

The oldest candidate on the list is former Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Adamu,  72. He is followed closely by 71 years old Tanno Patrick Onobughakpo of Kowa Party, who is contesting for Delta South.

The commission also laid to rest the controversy over the list of candidates for the Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The electoral body listed the names of candidates submitted by the Adebayo Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Executive as candidates of the PDP for the National Assembly election.

The Dayo-led Ogun State PDP Executive is the structure supported by the Senator representing Ogun East, Buruji Kashamu, who is the state’s PDP governorship candidate.

Kashamu described the development as “victory for resilience and the rule of law”, saying there was “no victor, no vanquished”.

He said with the publication of the final list by INEC, it was incumbent on lovers of the party to close ranks and work to deliver Ogun State for PDP.

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Rivers State, Mr. Obo Effanga, said the removal of names of APC  candidates for the February 16 and March 2 elections was in compliance with a court order.

Effanga said yesterday on a local radio in Port Harcourt that as a law-abiding commission, it had to comply with the order of the court.

Efforts were made by The Nation to speak with Rivers REC, but he did not answer his calls.

In a reply to a text message, Effanga said: “We (INEC) did not remove any name. We only published names of parties for the elections and APC is not on the list.”

The APC Publicity Secretary in Rivers State, Chris Finebone, in telephone interview yesterday evening, however, said the candidates of the party would be on the ballot for the elections.

Finebone added that the candidates of Rivers APC had just risen from a crucial meeting in Port Harcourt, where the issue of removal of names by INEC was extensively discussed. He was optimistic that candidates of the party would vie and win, “thereby putting the enemies of democracy to shame”.

INEC denied the allegation that it was issuing out Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to political party chieftains as claimed by PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the commission’s policy on collection of PVCs stands.

Oyekanmi maintained that no official of INEC would agree to collection by proxy.

  • How Atiku blocked restructuring as VP, by Osinbajo

VICE President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday argued that the struggle to restructure Nigeria started several years ago by people who saw the need early and who were sincere about it.

Using restructuring as a major campaign pledge, he said, is out of place for politicians like the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Abubakar Atiku because he opposed it when he had the opportunity to join in implementing it.

In fact, Osinbajo recalled how Atiku opposed the moves made by the Lagos State Government for the country’s restructuring when the PDP candidate was the vice president under Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

Osinbajo, who chaired Akande’s 80th birthday colloquium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, recalled that the then Lagos State Government under the leadership of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu made presentation to the Federal Government for Nigeria’s restructuring, particularly the practice of true and fiscal federalism, but that Atiku, who was then vice president, rejected the move.

Osinbajo was addressing the topic of the colloquium, “Nigeria: Achieving national unity through peaceful restructuring”.

He served as Lagos State Commissioner for Justice at the time.

The vice president noted that Tinubu told him straight away when he was invited to be part of his administration that his major aim was to pursue restructuring and devolution of power to the states through legal and political means for the country’s betterment.

He said Atiku’s rejection forced Lagos State to look inward and undertake the struggle alone, a move, which he said, paid off eventually.

According to the VP, Lagos State pursued it through the courts, adding that it succeeded in winning on four major issues.

They are: the power of the states to create local governments, the declaration that the Federal Government does not have the right to withhold federal allocation of any state or local government being jointly owned by the federating units, the right of states to create taxes and the right to issue their own urban and regional plan to which the Federal Government must comply, if it has any property in the state.

The vice president emphasised that there was a general agreement among Nigerians on the need for restructuring, but that the structure it must take was what citizens from different divides were yet to agree on.

In his presentation, Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, who gave the keynote speech, said in spite of the fact that some Nigerian elite were trivialising the issue, “it is a serious matter for Nigeria because it is needed for the country to move faster on the growth lane”.

He warned Nigerians to be mindful of those using restructuring to deceive. The governor said his position on the need for restructuring had been well-known before he became governor as he never hid his view.

El-Rufai posited that restructuring must be about the reform of the country to make it fit for efficiency. He explained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) set up a committee to work on the issue last year as a way of giving structure to what was popularly desired and which the party believes in.

He served as the chairman of the committee.

He hailed the regional government run in the First Republic and noted that Federalism degenerated through military intervention from 1966. He said concentration of power at the centre weakens Federalism.

El-Rufai emphasised that northern Nigeria was ready for inclusive restructuring “since it will benefit all”.

The governor posited that the Federal Government should shed its weight in healthcare delivery, infrastructures and commerce, among others, stressing that it cannot do well in them like states and local governments.

“As a state governor, I can testify that we simply do not have enough police. That is why the military is being dragged to reinforce security in crises areas.”

El-Rufai revealed that the committee recommended that the Federal Government should shed its load on police, railway, fingerprint identity and handover onshore oil to states for efficiency.

The governor posited that a uniform constitution for the structure and administrative management for the 774 local governments was anti-efficiency. He believes that while the constitution should provide the legal framework, the structure of each local government should be determined by the state, according to its uniqueness.

He also added that the states should be allowed to fix allocation for each local government as they have a better understanding of their uniqueness.

El-Rufai condemned the sharing formula used for federal allocation, saying the Federal Government should receive less than the 52 per cent it presently receives to enable states have increased allocation.

On this, he paused to pay tributes to Tinubu for the feat he achieved in raising the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Lagos State.

In summary, he said the committee recommended devolution of power to states, adding that only the states and Federal Government should be recognised as the federating units.

One of the discussants, Prof. Adigun Agbaje, said restructuring is an ongoing discussion as the country makes efforts to overcome its challenges. He, however, believes that it is possible to have three federating units.

Another discussant, Senator Olu Adetunmbi, believes that the issue has attracted emotion, religious and ethnic sentiment because the elite have failed to approach it from the economic perspective. He said if ordinary Nigerians and major stakeholders understand that restructuring would engender creation of more jobs, lighten bureaucracy and empower states and local governments the more, they would embrace it with more zeal.

Former Senate President Ken Nnamani said it was still possible for Nigeria to restructure without violence or disintegration.

He, however, stressed that the government must collaborate with the National Assembly for it to be smooth and successful.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi said the choice of the theme underscored the fact that Chief Akande remains one of the most authentic apostles of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, alive today.

VP, governors, others praise Akande at 80th birthday colloquium

ENCOMIUMS poured in from dignitaries for an elder statesman and former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, at his 80th birthday colloquium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, yesterday.

Akande, who was the Interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), played host to who-is-who in the party in the Southwest, with some of its leading lights in the North and a former Senate President, Ken Nnamani in attendance.

Congratulating Akande on joining octogenarians, Osinbajo described the politician as a forthright and modest leader, who is trusted . He said his modest lifestyle should be emulated by all.

Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi described Akande in superlative words, saying he is selfless and incorruptible. To him, Akande qualifies to be named the Nigerian’s politician of the Century.

His words: “He undisputedly qualifies to be named Nigeria’s Politician of the Century, judging by his role and continued personal sacrifices in ensuring the preservation of progressive democratic tenets. He is and should rightly be referred to as the very last of the Old Brigades who have remained unbending and unbowed in democratic governance ideals.

“In an earlier tribute to Akande, I extolled his unique attributes, which distinctly set him apart from his peers.   His legacies of incorruptibility, selfless service, self-sacrifice and unblemished loyalty to the ideals and principles of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Chief Bola Ige, are undoubtedly, worthy.”

Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai described Akande as his permanent mentor, stressing: “He is one of the very best.”

He noted that the birthday ceremony showed that Nigerians appreciate his contributions to national growth, stressing that Akande had always been in progressive politics.

Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola said: “Chief Akande has consistently lived his life and committed same to building a better Nigeria and the State of Osun. He was a deputy governor in the old Oyo State, the second Executive Governor of the State of Osun, first Interim Chairman of the governing APC, patriarch and leader of progressive politics in Nigeria, and an unrepentant democrat.”

Dr. Usman Bugaje described Akande as a source of inspiration.

In a colourfully decorated hall, Chief Akande, who decked a sparkling white agbada and a cap to match, was beaming  as he received guests and acknowledged cheers from well-wishers.

At the event also were Governors Ibikunle Amosu (Ogun State); Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (Ondo State); Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti State) and Akinwumi Ambode (Lagos State), who was represented by his deputy, Mrs Idiat Adebule. They were joined by the party’s National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The programme kicked off with an opening prayer by the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Archdiocese, Leke Abegunrin. Popular poet and oriki exponent Ajobiewe thrilled the audience with drummers complementing his rendition.

Other dignitaries at the event include former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola and his wife Serifat; former Ogun State Governor Segun Osoba; Osun State Deputy Governor Gboyega Alabi;  former Senate  President Ken Nnamani and members of the National Assembly.

  • Why we must tackle youth unemployment, by Atiku

PEOPLE’S Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar yesterday warned that jobs must be created for youths, “if not, we will get mobbed one day by the unemployed youths”.

He said job creation plays an integral role in economy’s growth.

Atiku stated this during a business summit in Lagos with stakeholders in the business sector to discuss the state of the economy and how to get Nigeria working again.

The engagement is part of his policy document to get Nigeria working again.

Noting that the harsh economic realities were responsible for the present wave of unemployment, Atiku, in the company of his running mate Peter Obi, said it was very heartbreaking to see unemployed youths begging for alms.

He said: “We must create jobs, if not we will get mobbed one day by the unemployed youths. They are like a time bomb… When businesses are folding up , shops are closing , industries are falling, foreign direct investments are not attracted; poverty is embarrassingly becoming our trademark, the rating of our hardwork businessmen by international rating agencies is becoming decimal; when we have a government that has remained insensitive to all these, I feel it is the time not only to offer myself for service to salvage the situation, but also to reiterate my aim to create a strong, resilient and prosperous economy that creates jobs and opportunities for all of us.”

Obi, who cited China economy, said one of the ways Nigeria can tackle the issue of unemployment is to invest in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

“We should be willing to work with people that can learn from nations. The only way to tackle unemployment aggressively is to look at other nations you can compare us with and see how they have been able to address that.  The best nation we can learn from is China. How did China solve the problem of unemployment? They achieved that by using the MSMES.  Sixty per cent of employment in China today comes from that sector. That percentage is responsible for the industrial output and GDP increase. They supported MSMEs. We need to do same here.”

Atiku also reiterated his plan to privatise the petroleum and electricity sector while clearly stating that he has no plans to assume the role of Minister of Petroleum, if elected. He also promised that his cabinet would constitute 30% of women and 40% of youths as well giving education a key role in his administration.

On tackling corruption, Atiku said technology will be a right approach.

“We are more educated than the UAE and one of the ways they have been able to ensure that there is minimal corruption is to introduce technology-driven governance. They tried to eliminate personal contact between members of the faculty with government officials.  We can finally eliminate corruption because it is being played virtually in the public sector.  Don’t think we cannot do it, we can do it. I am just too impatient to see in my lifetime when poverty becomes redundant.”

  • Atiku to privatise public enterprises, lift manufacturing

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar yesterday said he would privatise public enterprises including the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) if elected president.

The former Vice President who spoke on: Getting Nigeria’s Economy Working: A Pragmatic Approach,  in Lagos,  yesteray, said his privatisation plans would extend beyond the oil sector.

He said priority will be given to manufacturing, construction, education and women/ youth empowerment.

Atiku who featured with his Vice Presidential Running mate, Peter Obi, said his administration would reduce the size of the Federal Government to a manageable proportion.

Obi said the administration will give priority to manufacturing, which at the present contributes between seven to eight per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said: ” We need to move from consumption to a manufacturing economy and also give priority to education.”

Atiku said a Microfinance Bank (MfB) where he has interest has taken 45,000 to 50,000 families out of poverty especially by lending to women. He said loans to women hardly go bad, saying that the MfB has 98 per cent recovery rate for such loans.

He said he has over time, demonstrated his capacity to create jobs.

He said his administration would cede 30 per cent position to women, and 40 per cent to youths an that he has started shortlisting for the people that will take the roles.  He said despite Nigeria’s vast endowment and strategic location, the country faces challenges that have stifled economic activities and impeded the ability to achieve sustained growth.

Adding that its capacity to generate formal productive employment opportunities had been reduced, noting the situation led to severely stressed economy.

According to him, creating and sustaining economic growth requires not only resources but more fundamentally, the exercise of political power to manage them efficiently.

Atiku said Nigeria has failed to deliver the development and living standard that the people expect and demand. “It has failed to realise its potentials and transform into a united, developed and prosperous nation.”

The PDP candidate maintained that when he sees the army of unemployed youth, he gets scared, noting that the situation was a time bomb that need urgent attention.

He said government must listen to wise counsel, stressing it was part of the strategies adopted when he served in previous administration to revive the comatose economy they inherited from the military.

  • Understanding Nigerian Army’s role in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty

I recall that a section of the polity has decided to drag the Nigerian Army into the murky water of politics for their selfish reasons. This arose from the charge given by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces President Muhammadu Buhari for the Nigeria Army to deal ruthlessly with those who intend to snatch ballot boxes during the elections or engage in acts of thuggery aimed at disrupting the polls.
I must confess that I am amazed as to how the PDP bigwigs and sympathizers have blown the issue out of proportion. They forgot that for the credibility of the polls to be achieved, there ought to be a level of security in place to guard against vices such as ballot box snatching, vote buying and other evil acts associated with elections in this country.
While I am not against these folks airing their opinion on issues they have reservations, I am however taken aback with the way and manner they have so politicized the issue with the aim of misleading the unsuspecting members of the public to believe that there is indeed something sinister in the directive.
Yes, the Chief of Army Staff addressed his principal officers that included the General Officers Commanding the various divisions in the country to remind them of the task at hand which is necessary to safeguard the territorial integrity of the country and the need for the troops to respect the constituted authorities. I see nothing wrong with this. And I wonder how the PDP interpreted or is interpreting issues, especially in the build-up to the elections.
It even gets confusing when it is common knowledge that over time, the Nigerian  Army in discharging its constitutionally recognized and authorized mandate, focuses on two cardinal objectives, and they are subservience to constituted authority and the respect for human rights.
This is also sufficing to add that the Nigeria Army has overtime provided that needed support to the Nigerian police in the effective discharge of its duties in times of elections and other emergencies. And if this is and has been the case, why cry wolf where none exist? I think that the members of the general public should resist the antics of some unscrupulous elements hell-bent on causing disaffection in the polity to win the sympathy of the electorates with some days left to the general elections.
There are abound instances where the Nigerian  Army had ensured that voters carry out their civic responsibility without fear or favour. The Ekiti and Osun states elections are glaring examples of the invaluable role the Nigerian  Army plays in entrenching and sustaining democracy in Nigeria.  Ordinarily, Nigerians should not have any cause for worry or concern if they do not have ulterior motives during the elections.
But those that want to incite and cause mayhem should have every reason to be afraid because I think that any action that negates peace and tranquility would and should be resisted by the Nigerian  Army. And this should give every true lover of democracy a cause for concern.
The desperation to rig the election at all cost is what has driven the PDP to begin to act towards every other citizen even worse than what Boko Haram have done in North East Nigeria.
This desperation led by Obasanjo and some Governors to return an Atiku Abubakar who has become desperate as to drag the Nigerian  Army despite its apolitical nature into politics is what many today have become afraid of.
The fear of ballot box snatcher is real, and every Nigerian looks up to the Army to be able to provide the needed security for them to be able to exercise their franchise. One would, therefore, plead with the PDP to allow the Nigerian Army to focus on its role and responsibilities as those who have nothing to hide should have nothing to fear.
The Nigeria Army under Lt GenTukur Buratai is a responsive organization and one that has tremendously shown respect for the constitution of the Federal  Republic  of Nigeria. Worthy of mention also is the fact that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai is a professional officer and one whose loyalty can never be doubted.
He is also a refined promoter of human rights as evident in his numerous interactions with the civilian populace through the Directorate of Civil-Military relations.  This much has been said about him in multiple forums and how he has done so much in three years to reflect on the average soldier in the country.
It is also on record that the Nigerian  Army has not unlawfully engaged any citizen in any arms’ struggle and this very much we are aware the Army has continued to imbibe. An example of the professionalism of the Nigeria Army under Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai was in 2016 in Rivers state when militants opened fire on troops during a rerun election. Guess what?  The Army didn’t retaliate but instead fished out the criminals and handed to the police.
Now, that is just an example of the professionalism of the Nigerian Army under Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai in recent times. The public outcry by the PDP and its agents are in poor taste and meant to mislead. Needless I add that there is no rest for the wicked. And make no mistakes, the Nigerian  Army would rise to the occasion during and after the elections in Nigeria. For those who may not want a python dance with the Army, it is simply thumb print on your ballot paper and AVOID the box itself.
