AXA Mansard health lifts Lagos community with free healthcare

AXA Mansard Health has strengthened its commitment to community well-being with a free medical outreach to residents of Iwaya, Yaba, Lagos.

Hundreds of people benefitted from its health services.

The initiative, held at the end of last month , formed part of the company’s flagship “AXA Hearts in Action” programme a cornerstone of its corporate social responsibility strategy aimed at bridging gaps in healthcare access.

During the exercise, AXA Mansard Health’s medical team and volunteers delivered on-the-spot consultations, blood pressure checks, malaria testing, and other diagnostic services.

Essential medications were dispensed, while patients received guidance on disease management and maintaining healthier lifestyles.

Chief Executive Officer Tope Adeniyi said the outreach reflects the firm’s mission to extend care beyond policy documents and into communities most in need.

“Bringing healthcare services directly to people like those in Iwaya allows us to make a real difference where it matters most,” Adeniyi noted.

“This is not just CSR for us; it’s embedded in our DNA as a company determined to help people live better lives and build lasting relationships with communities.”

The leadership team including Dr. Jadesola Idowu, Chief Operating Officer; Olamide Lawal, Head of Medical Services; and Adebola Surakat, Chief Marketing Officer, joined staff and volunteers in delivering care, underscoring the insurer’s hands-on approach to social impact.

Dr. Idowu stressed that the project aligns with AXA Mansard’s wider ambition to close healthcare gaps for underserved groups.

“Healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of socio-economic status. By reaching communities like Iwaya, we empower people with tools to thrive,” she said.

Surakat added that the outreach is helping nurture a culture of empathy within the organisation.

“This is more than a CSR exercise; it’s a movement. Our people are inspired to step forward, give their time, and support those who need it most,” he said.

Residents and community leaders expressed appreciation for the effort, noting its value at a time when economic pressures make access to quality healthcare difficult.

Beyond addressing immediate health needs, the programme strengthened trust and created a sense of solidarity between the insurer and the community.

AXA Mansard Health says the Iwaya initiative is part of a wider effort to deliver sustainable impact across Nigeria through consistent engagement and strategic partnerships.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to protecting what matters most by building healthier, more resilient communities nationwide.

  • AXA Mansard’s CCO Adebisi to insurers: match NIIRA 2025 with excellence

AXA Mansard’s CCO Adebisi to insurers: match NIIRA 2025 with excellence

The Chief Client Officer (CCO) of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, Rashidat Adebisi, has called on  insurance operators to match the landmark Nigerian Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) 2025 with disciplined execution.

She noted that the credibility of Nigeria’s insurance industry will not be judged by the size of its balance sheets alone but by how many Nigerians it protects.

Speaking on a television show, Adebisi said recapitalisation and risk-based capital standards represent an historic opportunity to reposition the sector but stressed that capitalisation or digitization reform without execution excellence will not change the customer’s experience nor boost investors’ confidence.

‎Acknowledging the steep compliance requirements of the reform law, Adebisi drew parallels to Nigeria’s banking recapitalisation in 2004, which cut the number of banks from 89 to 25 but tripled industry capitalisation and deepened customer trust.

‎“We must replicate that trajectory in insurance as well. The NIIRA presents before our industry an opportunity to play a major role in Nigeria’s ambitious $1tr economy because this is a reform that addresses issues around demand, supply and our operations dynamics.

It’s empowering us to do more and seeks to bolster customers’ confidence and trust in our industry,” she said.

‎On the introduction of a risk-based capital framework, Adebisi described it as “a customer protection tool first, and a regulatory tool second.”

By aligning capital buffers with actual underwriting risks, insurers will have to pay extra attention to product design, pricing discipline, and invest prudently. “Policyholders can now have greater confidence that their insurer is not biting off more than it can chew,” she said.

‎Addressing fears that consolidation could squeeze out smaller firms, Adebisi explained that mergers and acquisitions are a natural path to stronger, more stable players.

“Consolidation should not be seen as loss, but as rebirth for a stronger industry. We will see fewer but stronger insurers with the scale to invest in technology, improve claims turnaround, expand distribution, and compete regionally.”

‎“Insurance penetration in South Africa is around 17% of GDP, in Kenya about 3%, and in Ghana close to 2%. Nigeria sits at less than 1%.

If NIIRA is executed well, insurance could unlock long-term funds for infrastructure, provide risk cover for MSMEs, which make up more than 90% of Nigeria’s businesses, and strengthen investor confidence in the financial system”.

‎“Regulators have given us the framework. Now it is on us, the operators, to rebuild trust with our customers, invest in digitisation, and deliver inclusive products,” she added.

AXA Mansard grows turnover by 24%

AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, a member of the global AXA Group, has announced a strong financial performance for the half-year ended June 30, 2025, posting a 24 per cent year-on-year growth in insurance revenues to N81.15 billion under the new IFRS 17 reporting standards.

The company’s latest figures reflect broad-based growth across its three major business segments.

Revenues from its property & casualty portfolio rose by 10 per cent to N35.43 billion; Life & Savings climbed by 17 per cent to N14.15 billion, while the Health segment recorded a remarkable 48 per cent growth, reaching N31.58 billion.

Similarly, Gross Written Premiums (GWPs) grew by 23 per cent to N115.31 billion, supported by double-digit expansion across all verticals.

Property & Casualty premiums increased by 11 per cent to N52.60 billion, Life & Savings grew by 18 per cent to N16.78 billion, and Health premiums soared by 41 per cent to N45.93 billion, underscoring strong demand for healthcare-related insurance solutions amid rising awareness and healthcare costs.

Speaking on the financial results, Chief Financial Officer of AXA Mansard, Mrs. Ngozi Ola-Israel, noted that the company’s topline growth was driven by strong renewal rates and consistent traction from new business across key product lines.

“In HY 2025, we recorded a 24 per cent year-on-year growth in insurance revenues, reinforced by strong renewal ratios and consistent traction from new businesses across our strategic product lines.

“This topline performance showcases the effectiveness of our distribution channels and the sustained relevance of our product suite in a dynamic operating business environment,” she said.

Despite the strong revenue performance, profit before tax came in at N7.73 billion, representing a 73 per cent decline compared to the same period in 2024.

The company attributed this decline to the non-recurrence of significant foreign exchange gains recorded in the prior year.

However, when adjusted for the one-off FX impact, the underlying profit before tax would have shown a 72 per cent growth, driven by disciplined underwriting and effective cost management.

Chief Executive Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance, Kunle Ahmed, described the first-half results as a reflection of the insurer’s operational resilience and commitment to sustainable growth.

“We delivered a solid revenue performance in the first half of the year, a clear reflection of the strength of our core business.

“As we move into the second half of the year, we are committed to preserving margin resilience while positioning the business to capture emerging value-accretive opportunities across our markets,” Ahmed said.

He added that the company will continue to focus on quality growth, prudent risk management, and capital efficiency to navigate market challenges and deliver long-term value to shareholders.

“We remain confident in the fundamentals of our business and the growth potential within our market. By leveraging our technical expertise, advancing our digital agenda, and harnessing the collective efforts of our people, partners, and brokers, we are well-positioned to strengthen returns and deliver sustainable value to our shareholders,” he added.

The results reaffirm AXA Mansard’s position as one of Nigeria’s leading composite insurers and signal a continuation of its strategic priorities to expand market share, innovate product offerings, and deepen insurance penetration in Nigeria.

AXA employees campaign against domestic, sexual violence

More than 900 employees of Nigeria’s leading Insurance Company, AXA Mansard, have volunteered for different activities to combat the scourge of domestic and sexual violence against children across the country.

AXA Week for Good is the flagship volunteering programme of AXA Hearts In Action (AHIA), a programme through which AXA encourages its employees to contribute to positive societal and environmental impacts through volunteering, expertise, related financial support, and in-kind donations.

Under the theme:”Being a Girl Shouldn’t Be A Risk,” AXA Mansard employees participated in awareness walks to sensitize the public about the danger of domestic and sexual violence on children and the nation’s future.

According to Adebisi, this theme presents the organization with an opportunity to demonstrate the social, economic, and ethical benefits of protecting the girl child.

She said Nigeria’s 105 million children and adolescents aged 0–17 years represent about half of the country’s population.

“For a country betting its economic growth on the strength and human capital of its young population, the alarming rate and spate of Violence Against Children (VAC) threatens the future not just of our country, but of the African continent.”

She noted that the staggering reality that 60% of Nigerian children experience one or more forms of violence before age 18 is a call to action for everyone, and “our employees are responding to this clarion call so that the thousand of Nigerian girls who go through physical, emotional, sexual and psychological violence can find safe places to get help; but most important, we can rid our society of perpetrators,” she furthered.

In 2024, more than 50% of AXA Mansard employees, through various volunteering activities under the AHIA, clocked over 23,000 volunteering hours. Their dedication underscores the company’s deep-rooted belief that real impact begins with people.

  • AXA Mansard offers MSME customers free stand at fair

AXA Mansard offers MSME customers free stand at fair

As part of continued commitment to support its Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) customers, AXA Mansard Insurance Plc has planned to offer some selected Micro Small and Medium Scale Enterprise (MSME) customer’s free exhibition stands at the Made by Nigerians Fair.

The company has been paying particular attention to MSMEs because of their significance to the economy. Earlier, the company has offered different media exposure opportunities to its MSME customers, giving them the platform to introduce their products and services to a wide range of customers for free.

According to the Head, Marketing, AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, Olusesan Ogunyooye, said this is another gesture by the company to show that MSMEs can benefit for having insurance.

He explained that MSMEs are the backbone of any economy, noting that they drive innovation, create jobs, and contribute significantly to national development.

“Our support for these businesses at the MBN Fair reflects commitment to their growth and sustainability. We are passionate about helping them reach their full potential by connecting them with resources and opportunities that foster success”.

“By the very nature of insurance, its benefits are in the future and they are uncertain.

That has been a main source of discouragement, particularly to MSMEs. Businesses are geared to making money. So, when thinking about Insurance, an average MSME will rather invest the money in the growth of his business first”.

But the risks that businesses face are also real.

There are various types of risks businesses have to contend with today.

From burglary, to fire, health of employees, and so on. When these risks manifest, they can significantly impact a business negatively.

We understand that to get MSMEs to protect themselves and the millions of jobs they create, we must help them strike a balance between growing their businesses and protecting them”.

So, we have come up with different Initiatives to help them grow their businesses.

The opportunity to exhibit their products and services to thousands of visitors to the MBN Fair is another in the series of our initiatives.

“We are convinced that for insurance to grow, we need to help people and businesses see it as a strategic lever to grow their businesses, not a cost that takes away from them. If we get this right, it can’t have a massive impact on our economy because, when MSMEs thrive, the economy will prosper”.

“We have experimented with this model, and we are particularly excited about the responses from our customers. It is a call for us to do more, and we are committed to Nigerian MSMEs”, Ogunyooye explained.

AXA Mansard has been recognised for its various MSME Initiatives.

The organization has been recognised by Nairametrics as Best MSME Insurance Company of the Year, and Marketing Edge Magazine as Inclusive Insurance Brand of the Year.
