AFCON: AY Makun defends Iwobi against internet trolls

Stand-up comedian, Ayo Richard Makun, popularly known as AY Makun, has called out Nigerians involved in cyber bullying to stop transferring their pain and disappointment to Alex Iwobi, Super Eagles midfielder.

AY, via his Instagram page, urged fans of Super Eagles to halt the cyber bullying towards Iwobi as his only crime was to come and represent his fatherland.

The Nation reported that Iwobi was one of the players who came under criticism following Nigeria’s AFCON final 2-1 defeat to Ivory Coast on Sunday.

Following the harsh criticism, the Fulham star eventually deleted all the pictures he put up on his official Instagram page after the AFCON final.

The comedian urged Nigerians to think beyond personal interests and look at the negative effects of their ‘evil’ actions.

“Anyone can become a victim of cyberbullying. Malicious information posted on the internet can spread far and wide at an instant, and it is always difficult to be deleted completely. The immediacy of the spread makes it hard for victims to defend themselves or take precautions. The harm caused by cyberbullying is always ignored by computer or mobile phone users.

“It is so sad to see how you all have exhibited various forms of cyberbullying on a young man whose only crime was to come and represent his father land. Tomorrow, you all will still be wondering why the likes of Saka and others are never going to play for Nigeria?

“It’s time to think beyond your personal interests and look at the negative effects of your evil actions.

“Let’s help promote a culture of care and respect on the internet and prevent cyberbullying,” he wrote.

  • Social media the new King Kong, says AY Makun

Social media the new King Kong, says AY Makun

Ace comedian and actor, Ayodeji Richard Makun, aka AY Makun, has taken a swipe at the loopholes bedeviling social media platforms.

He took to his Instagram page to share a deep message on the detriment of social media.

The father of two compared social media to the new King Kong where feelings are now more important than objective facts.

He noted how a foolish person gets praised when he says something the audience loves, but when a wise man says something contrary, he gets persecuted.

Ayo further noted how social media is a place where one doesn’t need formal training to know how to be a fool.

According to him, one has to be born foolish and be free enough to express their foolishness.

He further stated how people carry their ignorance with a lot of class and a lot of confidence based on what they see or feel.

“Social media is now the new King Kong, where feelings are now more important than objective facts. If a foolish person comes out and says something that unlocks the feelings of an audience, he or she gets praised. But if a wise person comes and says something contrary to how people want to feel, he or she gets persecuted.

“Social media is a place where you don’t need formal training to know how to be a fool. You just have to be born foolish and be free enough to express your foolishness. It’s a place that gives you confidence even in your ignorance. It is the only place where you can freely express the nothingness of your not knowing close to anything before your interferences.

“The funny part is that a lot of people carry their ignorance with a lot of class and a lot of confidence based on what they see or feel. But we must also understand that each community is entitled to have a fool or a community of fools that recognizes and accepts the foolishness of others as a brand to submit to. Such foolishness does not stop you from being a man or woman. It does not even stop you from not having fans and followers cut across the strata of different foolish endeavors.

“Having said that, more foolish people will continue to evaluate their performances in the space by creating sensationalism and negative viral content for the entertainment pleasures of their different audiences. But as long as foolish individuals do not care about the stress, pain, anxiety, loneliness, and depression they bring you, the more it is also very important for them to enjoy the consequences of their actions.
