  • Car washer charged with defiling neighbour’s daughter

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 22-year-old car washer, Onyekazuru Samuel, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 13-year-old daughter.

    The defendant, who resides at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, is standing trial for defilement.

    The court could not take his plea as the Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi,  said that she needed advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

    She ordered that Samuel should be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending the advice.

    Osunsanmi adjourned the case until May 13 for mention.

    The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, had submitted that  the defendant had sexual intercourse with his neighbour’s daughter, in contravention of  Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    Ayorinde said that the defendant committed the crime on March 22 at his residence.

    “The defendant sent the girl to buy “garri” and sugar for him; when the girl returned and handed over the items to him, he dragged her inside his room.

    “The defendant forcefully removed her clothes and underwear and had canal knowledge of her.

    “The girl started bleeding; when her mother noticed, she told her what the defendant did to her.

    ‘The case was reported and the accused was arrested,” the prosecutor told the court.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that child defilement can be punished with up to  life imprisonment.

     

     

     

     

  • Court remands Islamic cleric over alleged defilement of neighbour’s child

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded an Islamic cleric, Morufu Salaudeen, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s  five-year-old daughter.

    Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi ordered that Salaudeen should be kept at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, pending  advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.

    Thus, the court did not take the  plea of the defendant.

    The magistrate adjourned the case until May 1 for mention.

    Salaudeen, 28, who resides on Olushola Street, Agbelekale, Aboru, Lagos, was charged  with child defilement.

    The Prosecutor, Insp. Raphael Donny, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 19, on Joblanso Street, Aboru, Lagos.

    “The defendant lured the little girl to the backyard and sexually assaulted her and took away her pants,” the prosecutor said.

    He said that the girl’s mother reported the case, and the defendant was arrested.

  • Court remands pastor for defiling two boys

    A 28-year-old pastor, Seyi Adelana, who allegedly defiled two boys was on Thursday remanded at Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, on the orders of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    When the case was called up, the magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi refused to take the plea of the accused.

    She ordered that the accused be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Adelana, who resides at Igbogbo area of Ikorodu, Lagos, is being tried for defilement.

    The accused committed the offence between June and November 2018, at his residence, the prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court.

    Ayorinde said that the accused unlawfully assaulted the boys, both 17 years old, by defiling them through their anus.

    He said that the accused was exposed when one of the boys was declared missing for four days.

    “During investigation, the boy, who was found with the accused, told his parents what the accused had been doing with him and his friend.

    “The parent reported the case to the police and the accused who has separated from his wife was arrested,” the prosecutor said.

    Ayorinde said the offence violated the provisions of Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the section prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.

    The case was adjourned until Feb.27 for mention.

  • Man, 52, remanded for defiling 14-year-old boy

    A 52- year-old trader, Emeka Nwobochi, who allegedly defiled a 14-year-old boy was on Wednesday remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    Magistrate Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who refused to take plea of the accused, said he should be kept behind bars pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

    Nwobochi, whose address was not given, is being tried for defilement.

    The prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 29, at Maza Maza Park, Lagos.

    Ayorinde said that the accused sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy through anus.

    “The accused assaulted the teenager by penetrating into his anus with his sex organ,” he said.

    He said the accused brought the boy from Abia.

    “The accused brought the boy from village with the pretext of sending him to school, because the boy’s father died and was abandoned by his mother who had remarried.

    “But instead, he turned him into a sex machine.

    “When the boy could no longer bear the pains, he told someone who reported the case to the police which led to the arrest of the accused.”

    The offence violated Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The Section 261 prescribes life imprisonment for offenders.

    The case was adjourned until for Aug. 13, for mention.

  • Court remands man for defiling 12-year-old boy

    An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the remand of a 42 -year-old driver, Seyi Olowokere, in Kirikiri Prison, for alleged sexual assault on a 12 -year-old boy.

    The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison, pending the advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP ).

    Osunsanmi who refused to take the plea of the accused, adjourned the case until April 10 for hearing.

    The accused, a resident of Masha Kilo, Surulere, Lagos, is being tried for sexual penetration through anus of a minor.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 17 at his residence.

    Ayorinde said that the accused sexually assaulted the 12-year-old boy by penetrating his anus.

    “The accused called the boy where he went to play football and lured him into his room to defile him.

    “He undressed him, laid him on his bed, asked him to suck his breast and thereafter, inserted his manhood into his anus. The boy shouted but the accused covered his mouth.

    “The victim narrated the ordeal in the hand of the accused to his mother which led to his arrest.

    “A medical report issued revealed that there was penetration into the boy’s anus,” the prosecutor said.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

    The Section prescribes a life jail term for offenders.

    Court remands headteacher for defiling pupil

    David Eyo, a 31-year-old headteacher, who allegedly defiled his 10-year-old pupil, was on Tuesday remanded in Kirikiri Prison on the orders of an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who gave the ruling, directed that the case file should be duplicated and a copy sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions ( DPP ) for advice.

    The accused, a resident of Aguda in Surulere area of Lagos, is on trial for defilement.

    Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi had told court that the accused committed the offence at 2.00 p.m. on Feb. 10 in the premises of Promise Land Ministry School situated at No. 17, Aminu Jinadu St., Eric Moore, Surulere.

    “He defiled his 10-year-old pupil (name withheld) several times in the premises of the school,” he said.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case was reported by the pupil’s parents to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

    According to Mrs Titilola Rhodes-Vivour, the Coordinator of the DSVRT, who was present in court for the arraignment, the child had informed her classmate about the defilement which had occurred several times within the school premises.

    “The classmate who is the girl’s friend, told her mother who in turn informed the father and the case was reported to the Eric Moore Police Station in Surulere.

    “At the police station, it was referred to the Gender Desk and the desk got in touch with the DSVRT for further investigation,” she said.

    Elaborating further on the circumstances surrounding the alleged defilement, the DSVRT coordinator said: “The survivor could not tell her parents because the accused threatened to flog her, telling her that she will die if she tells anybody of the defilement.

    “According to the survivor, who was preparing for her Common Entrance Examinations, the pupils used to stay after school hours to be tutored by Eyo who works also as the headteacher, choir master and class teacher.

    “Eyo had the habit of isolating the survivor from her classmates and defiling her in the classroom and infected her with a Sexually Transmitted Disease ( STD ).

    “The survivor alleged that the sexual abuse had started since September 2017 when she was in Primary Five.”

    Rhodes -Vivour also lamented that survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence had to fund their cases for justice to prevail.

    The offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011. The section prescribes a life sentence for offenders.

    The case has been adjourned until June 25

    Man in court for allegedly defiling neighbour’s 7-year-old daughter

    A 30-year-old man, Moruf Mohammed, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s seven-year-old daughter, was on Monday arraigned in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

    Mohammed , who resides at Ayanbadejo Street, Samsudeen, Ikorudu, is standing trial on a charge of defilement, to which he pleaded not guilty.

    The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inhonwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 25, 2017 at his residence.

    Inhonwa said the defendant lured the girl into his apartment, on pretext of sending her on an errand and defiled her.

    ” When the pain was too much for the girl, she started crying out loud and a neighbour who was passing by heard her voice.

    ” The woman immediately entered into the room and to her surprise, she caught the defendant fingering the girl’s private part, ” Inhonwa said.

    He said the case was reported to the police by the girl’s parent and the defendant was arrested.

    The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News  reports that Section 137 of the law prescribes life imprisonment for child rape.

    In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

    She ordered that the case file should be duplicated, a copy of which should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

    Man faces child defilement charge

    A 40-year-old, Paul Eranluwobo, who allegedly defiled a two-year-old girl after enticing her with sweets, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

    Eranluwobo, who resides at Akowonjo area of Ikeja, however, pleaded not guilty to a charge of defilement.

    The prosecutor, Insp  Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in  July  in his apartment.

    Imhonwa alleged that the accused lured the girl into his apartment with sweets  and had carnal knowledge of  her  without her consent.

    He claimed that the accused defiled the girl by dipping his fingers into her private part.

    The prosecutor said  the cry of the girl  alerted a neighbour, who broke into the room,  and  caught the accused in the act.

    “The case was reported at the police station and the accused was immediately arrested,” Imhonwa said.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,  2015 (Revised).

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for child rape.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted the accused a bail in the sum of  N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Osunsanmi adjourned the case till  Oct. 23 for mention.

    Court grants hubby bail, docked for assaulting wife

    A man, Igwe Dike, who allegedly beat his wife to a pulp, is facing trial at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court , Lagos.

    Dike, 42, a resident of Fery Street, Mile 2, Lagos, was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and assault occasioning harm.

    The police prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 30 at 8.00 p.m. at their residence.

    Imhonwa said the accused assaulted the complainant , Mrs Nkiru Egbo, ( the wife ) by beating her to a pulp.

    He said the accused and the complainant had a serious misunderstanding over money and an argument ensued between them.

    “This led to a big fight and Dike used a plank to beat his wife.

    “In the process of chasing her with a cutlass, their nine-month-old  son, Destiny, the wife was carrying on her back fell into fire causing him grievous bodily harm.

    The offences contravened Sections 170 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety, whose address must be verified by the court.

    Osunsanmi said the surety must be a blood relation of the accused and  gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    She adjourned the case until September 8.

    Businessman in court for bolting with client’s N11.5m

    A businessman, Emmanuel Enamue, 32, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N11.5 million from a company on the pretext of supplying 30 tons of cashew nuts.

    The accused, a resident of Okokomaiko area of Lagos, is standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

    He, however, pleaded not guilty to the three counts.

    The police prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, told the court that the accused conspired with others now at large to commit the offences on April 10, at Union Bank Plc., Okokomaiko Branch, Lagos.

    Imhonwa said that the accused obtained N11.5 million from the complainant, Young Import and Export Company, on the pretext of supplying 30 tons of Cashew nuts, a representation he knew was false.

    He said that Enamue, who had no intention of supplying any cashew nut to the company, absconded with the money.

    Imhonwa said the company did not get any feedback from the accused, and so, became worried and decided to confront him.

    The prosecutor said that when the complainant demanded from the accused the 30 tons of cashew nuts, he started making up flimsy excuses.

    He said the company later  got tired of Enamue’s excuses and reported the matter to the police, which led to his arrest.

    The offences contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 314 stipulates 15-year jail term for obtaining by false pretence.

    The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

    Osunsanmi said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

    She adjourned the case till Sept. 14 for mention.
