Arewa group disowns Bala Mohammed over criticism of Tinubu’s economic reforms

The Arewa Youth Leaders and Professionals Forum (AYLPF) has distanced itself from Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed over criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, labelling his actions as detrimental to the unity and progress of northern Nigeria.

Speaking during a press conference on Monday, the AYLPF National President, Abdulahi Bilal Mohammed, accused Governor Bala Mohammed of pursuing a self-serving agenda, characterising his opposition to the reforms as unbecoming.

“Governor Bala Mohammed’s stance is not driven by genuine concern for Nigeria’s development but reflects his disdain for national unity and the trust placed in him by the people of Bauchi State and the country at large,” Mohammed stated.

The AYLPF also slammed former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, describing him as politically irrelevant and disconnected from the aspirations of Nigerians.

“El-Rufai’s recent utterances and actions demonstrate his detachment from the realities and priorities of the Nigerian people,” said Mohammed, adding that his alleged alliance with promoters of a third force represents an effort to undermine the interests of northern Nigeria.

The group accused El-Rufai and other third force advocates of pursuing divisive and selfish agendas.

The Arewa group called on patriotic Nigerians to rally behind President Tinubu’s administration, which it described as committed to the progress and development of the country.

“The voices of division and selfishness must be silenced. We urge all Nigerians to support the economic reforms of President Tinubu’s administration, which are aimed at ensuring national growth and prosperity,” the group concluded.

The statement partly reads: “Firstly, Let us begin with Governor Bala Mohammed. His recent statements and actions are a clear indication of his disdain for the unity and progress of Nigeria. His opposition to President Tinubu’s reforms is not rooted in any genuine concern for the nation, but rather, a desperate attempt to cling to the past that have benefitted him and his cronies.

“His actions have proven to be another emblem of trust betrayal placed in him by the people of Bauchi State and Nigeria at large. Apparently, El-Rufai, on the other hand, is a man with an emaciated political career.

“His emaciated political relevance has driven him into reckless rhetoric and divisive politicking, all in a futile attempt to revive his presidential ambitions. His recent utterances and actions are a clear indication of his disconnect from the aspirations of the Nigerian people. He has become a divisive figure, attempting to pit the North against the rest of the country.

“Indeed, it is disheartening that leaders entrusted with the responsibility of creating unity and development have instead chosen the path of betrayal and self-interest. Their antics are a betrayal of trust, not only to the North but to the entire nation.

“They are pursuing a divide and rule strategy that is antithetical to the spirit of unity and progress that Nigeria desperately needs. Let us be clear: these leaders are not speaking for the North, they are only serving their selfish agendas.

“Nevertheless, the Arewa Youth Leaders and Professionals Forum firmly stands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration’s economic reforms. These reforms, though admittedly challenging in the short term, are necessary steps to reposition Nigeria for growth, development, and progress.

“However, it is evident that those opposing these reforms are individuals who have been beneficiaries of the flawed systems of past administrations. From subsidy removal to tax reforms. President Tinubu’s policies are aimed at correcting the ills of the past, ills that have kept us bound to a cycle of corruption and underdevelopment.

“Yet, these so-called northern leaders who cry foul at the mention of change, are angry because these changes threaten their stomach infrastructure and the corrupt privileges they have enjoyed. Indeed, Governor Bala Mohammed and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s positions are not representative of the true voices of the North.

“The North is a region built on principles of fairness, justice, and patriotism. The North supports reforms that uplift the nation, even if they require sacrifices. Perhaps, it is time to question the motives of these so-called northern leaders. Are they truly concerned about the welfare of the masses, or are they merely seeking to protect their personal interests? Their actions suggest the latter.

“Evidently, these leaders have chosen to exploit the challenges that come with reforms to sow discord and manipulate public sentiment. This divide-and-rule strategy is not new, but it is one that we, as Arewa youths and professionals, reject outrightly.

“Nevertheless, we acknowledge that President Tinubu’s reforms come with short-term inconveniences. Change is never easy, especially when it disrupts the norm that everyone is accustomed to. However, the long-term benefits of these reforms far outweigh the temporary discomfort“.

Quit or stop disgracing our party, PDP youths tell Bala Mohammed

The People’s Democratic Party Youth Frontiers Network (PDP-YFN) has cautioned Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed to halt further disgraceful acts or quit the party.

The youths said tongue-lased Mohammed for what they described asunwarranted tirades against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike.

In a statement in Abuja by its National President,  Comrade Isah Ibrahim,  the group said his latest outburst has exposed him as another political jobber who desires to use and dump the PDP as a special purpose vehicle for personal actualisation.

“Bala Mohammed should  either stop disgracing the PDP as he is currently doing or quits the party for its loyal members and leaders to reposition it.

“His persistence in abusing the PDP to criticise government policies that he does not understand, as was the case in the tax reform bills, diminished the party’s standing in the eyes of Nigerians.

“We find it most unfortunate that Bala Mohammed has still not realised that he is now the lone member of a discredited choir singing obscene tunes against ongoing reforms, especially the tax reforms, a topic on which Wike attempted to school him leading to his latest temper tantrums.

“Even if Wike had not placed Bala Mohammed in his place, the fact that the Nigerian Govenrors’ Forum, a body to which the Bauchi state governor is subscribed, has endorsed the tax bills is enough reason for any right-thinking person to climb down from their high horse of ethno-sectarian criticism of people-oriented federal government policies. But Bala Mohammed has continued to imagine himself as a voice for the North even when he has been told on several occasions to stop impersonating those tasked with representing the North.

“We now understand that the reason Bala Mohammed arrogantly refused to take correction is that he fancies himself as the PDP presidential aspirant to beat in 2026 for the 2027 General Elections, hence his shadow-boxing and phantom-chasing that made him see and treat Wike as the obstacle to the attainment of his 2027 pipedream. This desperation to protect a position that was never his has turned Bala Mohammed into a comical meme who is undermining the standing of the PDP as a party.

“Such al disposition by someone claiming to speak for the PDP makes Bala Mohammed a huge liability to the party.  Ironically, Wike, whom the Bauchi State Governors seeks to undermine, is the one demonstrating the kind of impactful leadership that someone with PDP DNA can deliver when entrusted with public office” he said

The PDP Youths advised  Bala Mohammed to register under Wike as an apprentice so that he can understudy the FCT Minister and understand how to initiate and complete projects, carry along the diverse populations of his constituency, and execute social intervention programmes that actually touch the lives without traipsing across the country frothing in the mouth in the name of contributing to national discourse.

“Since his latest outburst, we have taken time to review Bala Mohammed’s records as a senator, minister and governor. All his records rolled into one do not come close toWwike’s achievements in the FCT. This has left us to conclude that Bala Mohammed is so obsessed with Wike’s performance as Minister that he cannot go to bed without mentioning the Super Minister’s name and dreaming of how to tear him down.

“We conclude by urging Wike to ignore Governor Bala Mohammed’s rants and treat them as the tantrums of a saboteur who has been prevented from hijacking the PDP into his personal enterprise. The FCT Minister should continue to lead the party as he is effectively doing while protecting our great party from opportunists like the Bauchi State governor. To the Bauchi State governor, our message is simple: if there is anyone who should quit the PDP, it is Bala Mohammed. We, therefore, urge Bala Mohammed to immediately quit the PDP and pursue his inordinate ambition elsewhere.

“Should he decide to stay on in the party, we urge Governor Bala Mohammed to reconsider his approach and align his actions with the party’s mission and manifesto. Constructive criticism and open dialogue are vital, but they must be conducted respectfully and with the party’s best interests in mind” they said.

    • Bauchi governor: FCT minister should quit party
    • ‘Governors’ Forum chair full of hypocrisy’

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed yesterday clashed over the protracted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis.

The PDP chieftains differed on why the leadership conflict assailing the platform has not abated in the last two years.

Mohammed, who frowned at Wike’s appointment as minister by the Tinubu Administration, said he should resign from the PDP with immediate effect.

The governor accused Wike of betraying the party by aligning with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

But Wike berated Mohammed for hypocrisy, recalling that he not only served as FCT minister under the PDP government when he was an All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) senator, but he also later defected to the PDP.

The minister and governor have consistently clashed over the Rivers State crisis, which has defiled solutions.

Wike, former governor of Rivers, had chided the Bauchi governor for taking sides with his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, advising him to purge himself of alleged deceit and greed.

The FCT minister blamed Mohammed and other PDP leaders for poor leadership, which is responsible for the party’s stagnation.

Mohammed said in a statement by his media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, that Wike is a “transactional politician” whose actions were driven by personal ambition.

He dismissed Wike’s criticisms as a desperate attempt to tarnish his image, adding that Nigerians could see through the minister’s alleged deceit.

Mohammed accused the minister of betrayal and destabilising the PDP.

He said: “Wike’s antics cannot overshadow Bala Mohammed’s record.

“His outburst is the desperate cry of a man whose political relevance is fading.

“The time for noise-making is over; it is time for governance.

“Let Wike reflect on his conduct and do the honourable thing: resign and align fully with the government he so eagerly serves.

“Until then, his words will remain as hollow as his loyalty.”

However, Wike in a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, described Mohammed as an inconsistent politician masquerading as a purist.

In the statement titled: ‘Bala Mohammed and his masturbation about Wike,’ the minister said he would not be distracted by the antics of the governor.

The statement reads: “The appointment of Barrister Nyesom Wike as a minister has remained the only excuse available for the Bauchi State governor to defend his glaring lack of capacity to lead the PDP as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum.

“Wike is not the first member of opposition parties in Nigeria to serve as minister and he won’t be the last.

“The late Chief Bola Ige, a member of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), was a minister under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Dr Olu Agunloye, a member of AD then was a minister under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Mrs Modupe Adesanya, daughter of the late Afenifere leader and a member of AD, was a Special Adviser under the PDP government of Obasanjo.

“Ibrahim Dasuki Nakande, a member of ANPP then, was a minister under the PDP government of the late Umar Yar’Adua.

“The Governor of Bauchi, Bala Mohammed, who was a senator under ANPP, resigned from the Senate to accept ministerial appointment under the PDP government of Dr. Jonathan.

“Wike, a member of the PDP, is currently serving as a minister under the APC government of Tinubu.

“Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, a member of APGA, is currently serving as a minister under the APC government of Tinubu.

“Now, the same Bala Mohammed, who left the senatorial mandate he got as an ANPP member to become a minister under a PDP government is running his mouth like a faulty tap.

“He said he resigned after becoming a minister. But the question is: as a senator elected under the platform of ANPP, should he have accepted to be a minister under a PDP government?

“That he defected to the PDP a few months after becoming a minister is a further demonstration of his ‘anywhere-belle-face’ politics.

“If he were offered even a Special Assistant position by the APC government of Buhari in 2015, he would have accepted it and defected to the APC.

“As for us, we are done with any object by the name Bala Mohammed.

“Reason is we have better things to do and we won’t be available to be used by any ineffectual being to launch a dead-on-arrival 2027 presidential ambition.”

I bear no grudge against President, says Bauchi Governor Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has said he does not harbour hard feelings against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor said his criticisms of President Tinubu’s administration is from a sense of responsibility and not personal.

The governor expressed respect for the office of the President, saying: “I don’t have any personal grudge against the President. I am one of those who respect the institution of leadership, especially that of the President.

“You know my antecedent in the Senate when I rose for the Doctrine of Necessity to dignify the office of the Vice President. It’s about respecting the institutions that uphold our democracy.

“I have nothing against the President but respect. However, as a responsible statesman and a head of a sub-national government, it is my duty to advise and guide, even when the truth is uncomfortable.”

Presidency slams Bala Mohammed, accuses him of playing irresponsible politics

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has reaffirmed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration remains committed to fostering development and enhancing the well-being of Nigerians.

Dare made this assertion in a statement issued on Friday, January 10, responding to remarks made by Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State criticizing the Tinubu administration.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to building collaborations with subnational entities and critical stakeholders on issues impacting citizens.

He criticized what he described as “pseudo-activists and latter-day crusaders” attempting to undermine the administration’s national mandate.

The statement read: “The focus of this government is on how to build stronger collaborations with sub-nationals and other critical stakeholders on matters that affect the lives of Nigerians.

“President Tinubu won an election and secured a national mandate from Nigerians and he will not surrender that to satisfy the palate of some psuedo activists and later day crusaders.

“President Tinubu is a listening leader and also a leader that strongly believes in the institutions of state.

“On the Tax Reform Bills, the President was clear that anyone and groups that feel strongly about this matter now before the National Assembly should take advantage of the legislative process. Attempts  to stampede or abort this process must be regarded as undemocratic and self serving.

“The question to Governor Bala Mohammed by journalists is to know what he is doing to make life better for the people of Bauchi State. How well are the people of his state who still rank as most impoverished among Nigerians fairing under his leadership? How well has he as Governor used the increased resources at his disposal to improve the quality of life of his people.

“Just like President Tinubu has a duty to all Nigerians, Governor Bala has greater duty and responsibility to the people of his state. Constant blustering and playing irresponsible politics will not relieve him of his duty to the people of Bauchi State his leadership has impoverished.”

He urged Governor Bala to face governance and stop using President Tinubu to burnish is vanishing image.

He added: “President Tinubu is focused on revamping the economy and his is working to turn the economic fortunes of the country around. He has a four-year mandate to deliver on his promises. Nigerians have started to see the real impact of reforms of the Tinubu administration and better outcomes will continue to manifest in the lives of the citizens in the weeks and months ahead.

Dare urged Governor Mohammed to prioritize governance over political distractions, adding that President Tinubu’s administration is firmly focused on revamping the economy and delivering reforms for the benefit of Nigerians.

“Governor Bala should face governance and stop using President Tinubu to burnish his vanishing image,” Dare added.

  • Addressing Bauchi’s real priorities

    Addressing Bauchi’s real priorities

Sir: Governor Bala Mohammed’s recent introduction of the Bauchi State Road Traffic Agency (BAROTA) has sparked mixed reactions across the state. While improving road safety is commendable, one cannot ignore the glaring disconnect between this initiative and the pressing needs of Bauchi’s citizens. In a state grappling with severe economic challenges, one must question the necessity of such a project at this time.

Bauchi State is currently facing harsh economic realities. Inflation has skyrocketed, and the cost of living has become unbearable for many. A large number of residents now resort to trekking as a more affordable alternative to vehicular transportation. The daily hustle and bustle on Bauchi roads pale in comparison to the stories of hardship unfolding within households.

Statistics and personal observations confirm that road accidents within Bauchi city are minimal — perhaps fewer than five in an entire week. This raises the question: why prioritize a traffic management agency in a state where vehicular movement is significantly reduced due to widespread poverty?

Education remains the foundation of any society striving for progress. Unfortunately, Bauchi’s education sector is in shambles. Public schools across the state are in deplorable conditions — from dilapidated classrooms to inadequate learning materials. Education is the key to societal development, yet this administration has failed to address this fundamental sector.

For a community to thrive, it needs a well-educated populace armed with knowledge and values to build a prosperous future. The current government, however, has shown little interest in improving the learning environment. Instead, public schools are left to decay, depriving students of the basic tools they need to succeed.

The health sector in Bauchi State paints an equally grim picture. Hospitals are underfunded, health workers are underpaid, and basic healthcare services remain inaccessible to many. Complaints about delayed or unpaid salaries among health workers are rampant, reflecting a lack of commitment to this critical sector.

Moreover, academic institutions have been forced to go on strike due to unmet demands, further hindering the state’s development. A functional health system is essential for a thriving society, yet the administration has shown minimal progress in addressing this urgent need.

While infrastructure projects and agencies like BAROTA may have their place, they cannot replace the need for fundamental human development. The Bauchi State government must focus on improving the basic necessities of life for its citizens. Priorities should include agriculture. Farmers need to be empowered with subsidies, modern equipment, and training to boost food production and combat hunger.

Also in education, the state needs investment in public schools, adequate motivation for teachers, and ensuring students have access to quality learning environments.

In the healthcare segment, the state government needs to address salary issues for health workers, upgrade medical facilities, and make healthcare services affordable and accessible.

Leadership is about making difficult but necessary decisions to uplift the people. While the Bala Mohammed administration has undertaken various projects, many of them fail to address the core challenges facing the people of Bauchi State.

This is a call for the government to re-evaluate its priorities. The citizens deserve a government that places their welfare at the forefront of its agenda. Addressing these fundamental issues is not just a matter of governance but of humanity.

Bauchi State can only achieve meaningful progress when its leadership prioritizes human development. Until then, initiatives like BAROTA will remain distractions from the real work that needs to be done.

I didn’t threaten Tinubu, Bala Mohammed replies Presidency

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has refuted allegations that he threatened President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor explained that his remarks were made over Federal Government’s policies he believed could harm Nigerians.

The Nation reports that Mohammed’s response followed a statement by the Presidency, which urged him to retract his purported “threat” over the Tax Reform Bills currently before the National Assembly.

The Presidency had criticised the governor for saying: “We will show President Tinubu our true colour.” It described the comment as unbecoming of a statesman and counterproductive to national unity.

Mohammed had condemned the tax reforms introduced by President Tinubu’s administration, calling them unfair to the North.

Addressing the Christian community during a Christmas homage at the Government House in Bauchi last weekend, he said: “If you ignore the cries of the people, you are inviting anarchy. These reforms are not helping northern Nigeria. How do you expect us to pay salaries and build roads when you are taking away our revenue sources? This is unacceptable.”

Also, a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, titled: “Re: Presidency’s Misleading Statement on Governor Bala Mohammed’s Remarks on Tax Reforms,” said the governor’s comments were misunderstood.

The statement explained that Mohammed’s remarks were cautionary and aimed at ensuring that the proposed tax reforms were fair, inclusive, and considerate, in line with Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges.

“It is mischievous to take Governor Bala Mohammed’s honest advice about the dangers of implementing unfavorable policies as a threat to the Presidency.

“The Governor deeply respects the institution of the Presidency and would never engage in threats or hostility,” the statement said.

It also explained that the governor’s focus had always been on fostering dialogue and advocating for policies that protect ordinary Nigerians, particularly those in economically disadvantaged regions.

It claimed that the governor’s concerns aligned with those of some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors who had similarly criticised some of the reforms.

The Bauchi State government urged the Presidency to embrace constructive criticism rather than dismiss it as opposition.

“We urge the Federal Government to prioritise dialogue and inclusivity over selective criticism and divisive rhetoric.“

“Governor Bala Mohammed remains committed to collaborating with the Presidency to address national challenges and ensure Nigeria’s overall growth and development,” the statement added.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N467 billion into law.

The Speaker of the House, Hon. Suleiman Abubakar, presented the revised budget tagged:  “Budget of Consolidation and Sustainable Development,” at the Banquet Hall of the Government House on Friday.

He noted that the adjustment was to ensure the budget met the needs of the people and addressed critical areas of development.

He said: “We gave our word to the governor and the good people of Bauchi State that we would pass the 2025 budget before the year runs out. The House, through its various committees, painstakingly reviewed the proposal to make sure allocations align with the demands of the state.”

Abubakar also presented another bill, the Bauchi State Water and Industrial System Law, aimed at improving access to clean water and empowering communities to participate in water resource management.

“This law will not only promote transparency and accountability in the use of our water resources but also ensure sustainable development across our communities,” he added.

While assenting to the budget, Governor Mohammed explained that the additional N2 billion would help improve service delivery to the people.

Gov. Mohammed also approved the appointment of Alh. Aminu Hammayo as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Bauchi.

Gidado explained that Hammayo had replaced Mr Ibrahim Kashim, who resigned his appointment on Dec. 13.

Gidado, who described the new SSG as a seasoned administrator and public servant, said that he has served the state with distinction in various capacities.

Gidado said that the governor also approved the appointment of Alhaji Hashimu Kumbala as his Principal Private Secretary.

Kambala, a retired permanent secretary, was until his new appointment, the special adviser to the Governor on General Services.
