  • Ballon d’Or: Ronaldo’s sister under fire for blaming cabal

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sisters have hit out after he was beaten to the Ballon d’Or by Luka Modric.

Real Madrid and Croatia star Modric was crowned the winner in Paris on Monday night, the first time since Kaka in 2007 that the prize has not gone to Ronaldo or Lionel Messi.

Both five-time winners stayed away after Ronaldo, who left Modric’s Real Madrid for Juventus in the summer, finished second and Barcelona’s Messi was back in fifth.

After the event, Ronaldo’s sister Elma Aveiro said the result proved that the world was ‘rotten’ as a message on her Instagram, read: ‘unfortunately this is the world we live in, rotten, with mafia and f******g money. The power of God is a lot greater than all this rottenness. God takes his time but he doesn’t fail.’

It was posted next to a picture of Ronaldo with one of his five awards from previous years.

Ronaldo’s other sister Katia Aveiro posted: ‘Best player in the world… for those who understand football of course.’

Meanwhile, Gianluigi Buffon has refused to criticise Ronaldo for his no-show at the event in the French capital.

The veteran Italian keeper and Paris Saint-Germain star, when asked about Ronaldo not being there, is quoted by FourFourTwo, saying: ‘I think we are all free people.  Everybody decides what he wants of his life.’

Ronaldo has made a fine start to life with Juventus after leaving Real Madrid where he won the Champions League with Modric in May.

Modric was instrumental in that triumph and also steered Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia in the summer, where they lost out to France.

Elma Aveiro however came under fire from fans for her stand on the event. one fan said

“What is it with this family? I can understand being loyal to your brother but this is embarrassing. He didn’t win, get over it. He may not win it again!

Another said “All the vanity, but no class. Such is the state of Ronaldo’s family. I see Ronaldo feeding wrong advice to his son by forcing him to hit the gym when he needs to be natural and playing. Ronaldo needs good advisers otherwise I see his family going Michael Jackson way. You can fulfill yourself by seeking attention and applaud from others. It will eventually come to an end” and yet another added “When Ronaldo wins it’s not mafia and it is when someone else wins, pathetic”

  • AYEEN 2018: How to overcome challenges in  entrepreneurship

    By Abeeb Alawiye

“When I see business proposals in which people claim they passed through a lot as entrepreneurs, their journey, challenges,  I laughed knowing fully that I have passed through that same thing while starting as an entrepreneur.”

The above statement was that of Mr. Summy Smart, President of Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs (AYE) at the just concluded AYEEN 2018 entrepreneurship program.

The event which held recently at the Pistis Conference Center Lekki, Lagos was attended by over 1,000 of Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs was an opportunity for participants to network and learn from some of Africa’s leading business moguls and dignitaries from various walks of life.

Some of the dignitaries present at the 5th Annual AYEEN Convention were billionaire and the Chief Matron of the Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs (A.Y.E), Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, Billy Selekane from South Africa, Professor Patrick Lumumba from Kenya, Olatorera Oniru of Olatorera.com, Tonye Cole of Sahara Group, and Music producer Don Jazzy of Mavin Records amongst others.

The Vice President  of Africa’s Young Entrepreneur (A.Y.E), Miss Ibadah Ahmed started the programme in an interactive session with the panelists to help give insight and words of encouragement for young entrepreneurs on how to go about their business, the challenges, keynotes and possibly what they need to do in other  to become a successful entrepreneur.

APC gubernatorial candidate in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, who was one of the panelists, talked about the challenges young entrepreneur are likely to face starting up business and what they should have in mind to the face challenges. Once they are able to identify the challenges, Cole said they should take cognizance of the principles to become a successful entrepreneur such as keeping “your vision, believe in yourself, hold on to those who will pull you up  and stay focused.”

“Once you are in your comfort zone, make sure to get out of it,” he said.

A member of the panel, music producer and C.E.O. of Mavin records, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy said in relation to music scene, “the people around us don’t actually tell us the truth about what we are good at” For him, he said he discovered that at a point, performing on stage was not actually the best for him, so he opted for producing artistes.

“I think people only need to get to know themselves and ask people around them to say the truth about what they are good at”, he said.

In her opening speech, Nigerian businesswoman and philanthropist, who is also the Chief Matron of Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija, noted that the collective effort of the organisation and its partners has expanded AYE to over 21 countries in Africa, U.S.A. and the U.K.

Mrs. Alakija advised young entrepreneurs who admire successful business people to always look out for their biographies and read in other to learn from their mistakes, build on it in other to take themselves to the next level.

“No use looking at the glory, you must know the story and learn from it. I would like to remind you that it is God that gives wisdom even for the business,”, she stated.

AYE President spoke about how the idea behind the establishment of the organization was born out of business frustration despite the fact that he is a creative person with a lot of ideas.

“ Starting AYEEN was never an easy thing to put on because back then we had a lot of issues right from gathering people and finding the right team until God sent people who had the same idea as me and that was the most amazing team one could wish for.

“You can copy business, ideas but you cannot copy vision even if you have billion to back it up.  It’s simply impossible for you to do that.

“ We encounter some certain issues and challenges when we have more than enough people who applied for A.Y.E programme, but the organization was able to empower few. It makes it look as if the organization doesn’t have the plan and unable to state clearly it’s vision and mission, but recently there has been a new development as the organization launched an A.Y.E Trust fund Application where entrepreneurs can apply for loans to start up their businesses.

“We urged people to come and join us.  That is why we say if you can achieve this much more alone, how much more can we achieve together”.

Presentation of Awards and cutting of AYEEN 5th convention cake

The entrepreneurship program is aimed at helping young entrepreneurs to get the required equipment, funding, mentorship, training, and exposure they need to build thriving businesses that would go on to create millions of jobs in Nigeria while also shaping the future of the African continent.

  • Modric ends Ronaldo-Messi hold on Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has ended the Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi stranglehold on the Ballon d’Or.

Modric, who led Real to their third consecutive Champions League and reached the World Cup final with Croatia this summer, capped off a memorable 2018 by winning European football’s oldest individual prize in a ceremony on Monday.

Modric, 33, finished ahead of Ronaldo and Antoine Griezmann for the prize, leaving Messi, who was fifth, outside the top three for the first time since 2006. Kylian Mbappe finished fourth to round out the top five.

No player other than Ronaldo and Messi had claimed the award since 2008, with both players winning five apiece over the past decade.

The former Tottenham man is the first Croatian player to ever win the award.

In September, Modric claimed FIFA’s The Best award given to the world’s top player, a prize which Messi and Ronaldo had not lost since 2008.

France Football, which hands out the Ballon d’Or, and FIFA combined their awards to create the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2010. The two parted ways in 2016 and have given out separate awards ever since.

Other honourees on the night included Mbappe, who was awarded the first-ever Kopa Award given to the top under-21 player. The 19-year-old PSG forward became the second-youngest to ever score in a World Cup final as he helped France to their second title this summer.

Lyon’s Ada Hegerberg became the first recipient of the women’s Ballon d’Or award.

  • Breaking! Luka Modric Wins Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or for the year 2018.

He received the honour in a glittering ceremony in Paris on Monday.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. It’s a big pleasure to be here among all these players.

“I am still trying to realise that I have become part of a group of exceptional players to win the Ballon d’Or throughout history,” Modric said after winning the award.

World Cup winners Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe were among the closest challengers to Modric for the most coveted player award in the sport.

The ceremony was hosted by former Tottenham and Newcastle star David Ginola.

Missing out on first prize this year was Juventus striker Ronaldo, who has won the Ballon d’Or five times since 2008.

The Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo Ballon d’Or duopoly is no more after Luka Modric won the award for the first time in Paris on Monday.

    Hegerberg wins women’s Ballon d’Or

Lyon striker Ada Hegerberg won the inaugural women’s Ballon d’Or.

She scored an incredible 42 goals in 25 games for her club last term.

“I want to ask every young woman to believe in themselves,” she says upon receiving the award.

    Mbappe wins Kopa Trophy

Kylian Mbappe won the inaugural Kopa Trophy.

The French youngster has been named as the best Under-21 player in the world.

    Chapeau, Kylian.

The PSG forward said: “This is award just makes me hungrier to go on & achieve more… my next aim is to lift absolutely every trophy.”

Factoid for you, from my colleague Jake Polden, the Kopa Trophy is named after the third ever winner of the Ballon d’Or, Raymond Kopa, who won the award in 1958.

  • Messi tips Neymar,Mbappe and Suarez for Ballon d’Or

Messi tips Neymar,Mbappe and Suarez for Ballon d’Or

Lionel Messi has claimed that Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Luis Suarez could all challenge him and Cristiano Ronaldo for the 2018 Ballon d’Or award.

The prize has been traded between the Barcelona forward and his Real Madrid rival over the last 10 years, with each picking up the trophy on five occasions.

Nobody has been able to split the Ronaldo and Messi stronghold for second place since 2010 either, when Spanish midfielders Andres Iniesta and Xavi finished second and third to their Argentinian team-mate respectively.

Despite their dominance in recent years, Messi has revealed that the pair face a number of threats this time around with the aforementioned trio firmly in contention.

‘There are many great players around today who can win the Ballon d’Or,’ Messi told WorldSoccer Magazine.

‘In recent years there have just been two, but now players like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Luis Suarez can compete.’

Neymar finished third in the standings behind Messi and Ronaldo in both 2015 and 2017

Neymar has come closest to edging Messi and Ronaldo in recent memory with the Brazilian finishing third in both 2015 and 2017.

The world’s most expensive player is flourishing for Paris Saint-Germain and has scored 28 goals in 27 appearances since his summer move from Barcelona.

Neither Mbappe or Suarez have made it into the top three before but both are worthy contenders. The Frenchman has combined

well with Neymar and Edinson Cavani in the French capital, notching 15 times in 31 games, while Suarez has 19 in 33 for Barcelona so far this campaign.

meanwhile just few hours to the kick off of another Champions League show, across Europe, Anderlecht have been ordered by

UEFA to partially refund Bayern Munich fans for their tickets for last November’s Champions League group game.

The Belgian club charged €100 per ticket for the travelling supporters for the game at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, which Bayern won 2-1.

UEFA has ruled the price was excessive and has instructed Anderlecht to reimburse Bayern by €30 per ticket.

In a statement released by their Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body, UEFA said: “RSC Anderlecht is ordered to contact FC Bayern Munich within 15 days to compensate their supporters with an amount of €30 per ticket to those away fans located in the upper tier section (sections S14, S15, S16 and S17).”

In December, UEFA fined Bayern €20,000 after their fans protested against the inflated ticket costs.

Supporters threw fake bank notes onto the pitch and displayed a banner, which read: ‘”€100? Is your gr€€d [sic] now finally $satisfied?”‘.

  • Ronaldo’s leaked new boots hints Ballon d’Or victory

Ronaldo’s leaked new boots hints Ballon d’Or victory

Nike have accidentally dropped a hint that Cristiano Ronaldo will win the Ballon d’Or on Thursday.

Ronaldo is competing to match Lionel Messi’s record of five wins in the individual award. And sportswear giants Nike have implied he will with two new sets of boots with his branding.

One of the pairs – the Mercurial Superfly V Quinto Triunfo CR7 – includes the words ‘fifth triumph’ in Portuguese in the name.

That set are white and gold and also have the years Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or – 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 – written inside them as well as 2017.

Ronaldo has also announced himself that he is releasing Air Force 1 CR7 trainers and the colour scheme of white and gold matches the new boots.

France Football, a French publication, will announce the winner of the Ballon d’Or on Thursday afternoon.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez recently insisted Ronaldo would pick up the trophy this season.

‘Ronaldo is one of our great symbols,’ he told an assembly of Madrid members.

‘He is the leading goalscorer in our history. A few days ago, he won his second ‘The Best’ and this week he is going to win his fifth Ballon d’Or’.

Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde insisted he did not care about who won the trophy.

He said: ‘I don’t value any prize at all. Everyone is free to give prizes that they believe are convenient to the players

‘The Golden Shoe, the Ballon d’Or… I don’t know how many prizes exist. I’d rather not evaluate any of them.’

Ronaldo surpassed Jimmy Greaves as the all-time top scorer in the top five European leagues on May 17, and by netting against Juve, became the second player after Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano to score in three different Champions League finals.

  • Ronaldo eyes 5th Ballon d’Or Thursday

Ronaldo eyes 5th Ballon d’Or Thursday

No trophies are handed out in December, at least on a team basis, but one of football’s biggest personal accolades is about to go on the line in Paris.

The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the best player applying his trade in Europe, but is often considered the ultimate prize on a personal level for any footballer.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon d’Or four times including last time out in 2016

This year’s event billed for Thursday December 7 according to Sportsmail gets going from 6.45pm GMT or at 7.45pm local time in Paris where it will be held.

But arrivals on the red carpet are expected a couple of hours in advance as the sea of stars arrive for the prestigious show

Up until 2009, Ballon d’Or ran alongside FIFA’s World player of the Year until FIFA took over the former, and ended the latter.

Between 2010 and 2015 the Ballon d’Or featured under a FIFA banner in their awards ceremony, but new FIFA president Gianni Infantino wanted to revert to the old system.

Just about all the best players you can think of off the top of your head. There are seven Premier League players in contention including Harry Kane, Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne.

But realistically the usual big guns of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are expected to go head to head for the award.

Either one or the other has been picking up the award since 2008. While Messi has the slight majority with five, Ronaldo triumphed back in 2016.

Having helped Real Madrid become the first team to defend the Champions League as well as win the Spanish top flight, Ronaldo will be favourite to win again – especially after having already won FIFA’s best player award in October too.

    Below is the list of all the contenders;

    Neymar – Paris Saint-Germain

    N’Golo Kante – Chelsea

    Luka Modric – Real Madrid

    Paulo Dybala – Juventus

    Marcelo – Real Madrid

Honeymooning Messi agrees new Barca contract

Lionel Messi has agreed a new contract with Barcelona, tying him to the club until 2021.

The forward’s previous deal was due to expire in 2018, with the three-year extension ensuring he is contracted at Camp Nou for at least the next four years.

Formal signing of the contract is expected to take place after the Argentina international, currently on honeymoon after his wedding to Antonella Roccuzzo, has returned for pre-season training.

Messi, who turned 30 last month, has spent his entire senior career with Barcelona and made his debut in 2004.

In an astonishing career, he has won LaLiga eight times and the Champions League on four occasions, among a total of 29 club trophies.

He has scored a record 507 goals for Barcelona and netted 54 times in 52 appearances last season.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or five times, although just one of those awards have come in the last four years, with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo expected to win again in 2017.

The Argentina international will turn 34 as this new contract reaches its conclusion

The new contract will see Messi enjoy £500,000-a-week deal with  £264m buy-out clause

A club statement read: ‘FC Barcelona and Leo Messi have agreed on a contract renewal that will keep the Argentinian at the club until June 30th, 2021.

‘The deal will be signed in the coming weeks, when Messi returns to the team for pre-season training.

‘The club is very happy with both the renewal and the commitment of Messi, the best player in history, who has played his full professional career at Barca and has led the team to an era of extraordinary success, the likes of which has never been seen in world football.’

  • Chinese club tables £175m bid  for Ronaldo

Chinese club tables £175m bid  for Ronaldo

A Chinese club are preparing a £175million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, with the offer of a five times increase on his Real Madrid wages, according to reports in Spain.

Ronaldo signed a five year, £365,000-a-week contract at Real last November, but will be offered over £1.8million-a-week in China – or £95million a year – if the reports are true.

Several Chinese Super League clubs have signed big name players from European clubs thanks to huge transfer fee and wage offers, including Oscar, Hulk and Axel Witsel.

However, signing Ronaldo – the current Ballon D’Or holder who has won the European Championship and Champions League in the last 12 months – would be on a different scale to any previous move.

According to AS, an unnamed club will next week make the amazing offer to Madrid, claiming a fee of around 200 million euros – or £175m – is on the table.

They also say Ronaldo will be offered in the region of 120 million euros in wages, which is five times what he earns at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo is currently with the Portugal squad as they prepare to face Latvia in a World Cup qualifier, before travelling to Russia for the Confederations Cup.

The 32-year-old has scored 51 goals in 50 appearances for club and country during the 2016-17 campaign, showing no signs of slowing down as Real won the league and Champions League double, scoring twice against Juventus in Cardiff to help his side lift the latter trophy.

Earlier this week he refused to rule out leaving Real, admitting ‘nothing is impossible’ when pressed on his future. As well as mega-rich Chinese clubs, former side Manchester United are also rumoured to be considering a bid
