The current season of Big Brother Naija, which premiered on July 28, 2024, has left many viewers and fans feeling disappointed.

Initially featuring 28 housemates, the housemates have now been reduced to 16 following weekly evictions.

To address this, Big Brother has reminded the housemates that they are competing for the grand prize of N100 million and additional benefits, rather than simply enjoying a vacation.

In an effort to inject excitement into the current Big Brother Naija season, media personality Toke Makinwa was brought in to energize the housemates and ramp up the drama.

To further increase entertainment value and push the housemates to elevate their performance, Biggie has implemented new restrictions and revoked some of the house’s comforts.

The new measures include closing off the garden area to limit outdoor access, withholding hot water to make daily life less comfortable, and restricting access to the duvet, impacting sleeping arrangements.

These changes are designed to create tension and spur more engaging and dramatic interactions among the housemates.

Despite these efforts, the season has been widely criticized as underwhelming, with many viewers describing it as boring and lacking the anticipated excitement.

  • BBNaija Season 9: We never expected to be evicted by Streeze, says NdiNne

BBNaija Season 9: We never expected to be evicted by Streeze, says NdiNne

For the recently evicted housemates Chinne and Nne, the most shocking moment of their journey was their unexpected eviction by the Streeze pair.

In an exclusive interview with The Nation, NdiNne opened up about the shock and disappointment that followed their abrupt exit from the house.

The duo made this known while reflecting on the moment they were evicted from the house.

The duo, who believed they had built a strong bond with the Streeze pair, were blindsided by the decision.

“If I were to be them, I wouldn’t have evicted us, especially considering how close we were in the house,” Nne began. “At least I was vibing with Mayor a lot. We used to dance, we used to talk, and our lockers were literally side by side. I felt like we had a very good connection there.”

Chinne also shared her perspective, expressing the disbelief they both felt when their names were announced. “We didn’t see it coming at all,” she said.

The pair had been in high spirits, especially after winning the custodian title and spending two luxurious weeks in the Head of House lounge, which they described as a highlight of their experience.

Chinne and Nne’s eviction was not only unexpected because of their relationship with Mayor but also because of their overall performance in the house. They had started strong, earning the coveted custodian title in their first week. Reflecting on this, Nne said, “Grace carried us through the first two weeks. We didn’t lobby for it, we didn’t plan anything. People still decided to choose us as the Heads of House, and maybe they saw something in us that made them believe we’d be good leaders.”

However, their early successes were not enough to save them from the strategic gameplay that ultimately led to their exit. Nne acknowledged that strategy played a significant role in their eviction.

“I understand that it was a tough decision for Streeze to make,” she said. “If you look at the diary session that Toby and Mayor had in the diary room, as to the reason why they evicted us, you’ll see that he said he was just plainly strategic about it. He said that the house is divided into two groups and we are with the group and we are with the Mbadiwe twins and some other people which are like the stronger group. So he wanted to sort of separate us or weaken that particular group that we were in. That’s the reason he chose us. If not for that, I feel like we’d still be in the house and we’d still be very strong contenders.”

Despite the disappointment, the duo are trying to move forward with a positive outlook.

“It was a real shock and not even a good feeling at all,” Chinne admitted but Nne added, “We’re just happy for the whole experience. We are very, very thankful to Biggie. We’re thankful to Dstv, every single person and every single organisation that came together to make Big Brother a reality.”

As they look ahead, both Chinne and Nne remain focused on their future projects, including expanding their respective brands, Spices Kitchen and Perfume High. They also hinted at upcoming joint ventures that they are eager to bring to life.

While their eviction may have been unexpected, Chinne and Nne are determined to make the most of their Big Brother Naija experience. “We are really, really happy for the supporters that we have,” Nne said, expressing gratitude to their fans. “It’s only going to keep getting better from here.”

In the same vein, Chinne and Nne revealed how shocked they were upon hearing that Double K, one of the most talked-about pairs in the house, were not just romantically involved but legally married.

“That was very shocking,” Nne exclaimed. “If we came out and heard they were dating, it would still be surprising, but marriage? You know, that’s on a whole other level.”

For Chinne, her astonishment wasn’t just because of the unexpected reveal but also due to the way Double K had conducted themselves in the house.

“In the house, they weren’t giving us any clues,” she continued. “It’s like you guys are catching feelings for each other. They said, ‘Ah, no, not for me, we can’t catch feelings, ah, no, no, no.’ But like, coming out and hearing that they are both married? Wow!”

Chinne, who entered the house with her niece, Nne, as part of the first-ever aunt-niece duo, emphasised just how well Double K had managed to keep their marriage under wraps. “We did not expect it because in the house, they were not giving us any clue,” she said.

“Coming out and hearing that they are both married was a wow moment,” Nne concluded. “But that’s good. I like their strategy, and I wish them well.”
