  • Uncovering the personality traits of the BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’ housemates

Twenty-one days after Big Brother Naija Season four commenced to rapturous applause, four housemates – Avala, Isilomo, Ella and Kim Oprah (as at Sunday afternoon) – have kissed goodbye to the opportunity of winning the ultimate prize worth N60million. 17 housemates remain guests in the BBNaija House.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the remaining 17 housemates, as they have had to adapt to each other’s personalities as they live and work together. Readjusting themselves to a new order has been difficult as seen in their various tasks last week. Virtually everyone was opinionated and unbending. They lost their first wager as a result and received some stinging comments from their invisible landlord, ‘Biggie’.

There has, however, been a marked improvement in their attitude as evidenced in last Thursday’s task, despite their horrible attempt at singing for the Pepsi “Know Da Lyrics” challenge earlier in the week. Big Brother jocularly told some of them not to attempt going to a studio for any recording session. For the first time during BBNaija Season 4, the “Pepper Dem” gang rehearsed and performed in unison. Impressed by their collective performance, Big Brother decided to reward them with their wager for next week, although it still followed with some punishment for their previous behaviour.

But while they may now be working harmoniously as a team to avoid Big Brother’s sledgehammer, the strong individual inclinations remain palpable.

For example, some of the housemates have been quite blunt with how they express their opinions regarding activities in the house or topics of general discussion. This, however, has resulted in a few clashes and war of words amongst them. An example will be the shouting match between Tacha and Frodd over the use of the bathroom. Things escalated pretty fast but was later contained by the other housemates.

For the housemates who seem to take their tasks preparations with a level of seriousness, Mike, Frodd, Sir Dee and Gedoniwill easily fall into this category. They are quite competitive with the tasks and as such considered threats by the other housemates. But Mike will desperately need to improve his pidgin English as he struggles in tasks that involve verbal communication in that language. Case in point would be his hilarious rendition of Teni the Entertainer’s popular track ‘For your case’ during the Pepsi challenge. His struggle to pronounce some words in the song left social media in stitches!

In a house where unlimited quarrels are certainties, the resolver-in-chief definitely has to be Seyi. The grandson of the late politician, Obafemi Awolowo, seems to have relished his toga as the chief diplomat. He also seems to be spurring his fellow housemates with all his motivational illustrations about life, providing relevant examples at every given juncture, a trait that has seen some of his co-housemates brand him a talkative. He also touts himself as the guy in the house who empathizes with the ladies and has also assumed responsibility over certain activities such as kitchen organisation, even though that usually ends in a disaster.

Jeff, Diane, Nelson and Tuoyo seem to be in the cool-headed team, as they have remained calm so far despite all that might have been thrown towards them. Asides Jeff, the remaining three majorly speak when necessary. Nonetheless, these four housemates also seem to be the most confused of the lot. Their actions have depicted that they are clearly interested in finding love in the house but are quite confused on who to settle for. Jeff’s interest seems to have waned with the eviction of KimOprah but seems he still has his eyes for other ladies in the house. Nelson and Tuoyo are in a love triangle fix with Diane, who has acknowledged the interest from the duo but is interested in Nelson. Meanwhile, Nelson has also fixed his gaze on Jackye, who has maintained (for now) that she is not interested as she had a blossoming relationship outside before entering the house. To be added to this group is Frodd, who has jumped from one female housemate to another and is currently hovering around Esther, who has vehemently rejected his advances, thereby leading to a flood of tears.

With the eviction of Ella, Khafi appears to be the only female housemate with a sonorous voice capable of making a dejected person come back to life. Her stimulating vocal range might have been the key to finally unlock the heart of Gedoni as her guy in the house. Khafi has shown that she is not afraid to confront anyone, bringing her strong traits as a police officer into play. She, however, secludes herself at every given opportunity with Gedoni, a situation the bearded folk has expressed his reservations over.

The same ‘situationship’ looks to have captivated the heart of Ike, who has slowly withdrawn from his bad boy, gangster-like attitude into the tender arms of his love interest, Mercy. Ike, who gave viewers a moment never to forget after the housemates’ second Saturday party with the stealing of Omashola’s coins, has considerably dropped his controversial antics and has become a lot calmer. But it remains to be seen if he will maintain such an attitude to the end of the show.

So, whose personality trait will help get him or her across the finish line on day 99? The drama continues LIVE, 24/7 on DStv and on GOtv.

  • UPDATED: Tuoyo leaves BBNaija House

Tuoyo has become the fifth housemate to be evicted from the show while Seyi and Tacha faced fake eviction.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tuoyo’s eviction was announced during the live show on Sunday following Avala, Isilomo, Ella and Kim Oprah who were previously evicted.

The physiotherapist was known on the show for his dance moves, bubbly personality in the house and his off-on relationship with Diane.

While on stage with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Tuoyo was shocked that he was nominated by Frodd with whom he had formed a bond in the house.

He revealed that he would continue this fitness and modeling career, capitalising on the fame he had gathered in the show.

Earlier, Ebuka had announced the fake eviction of Seyi Awolowo and Tacha. The housemates, however, were unaware that the evictions were fake.

NAN reports that Seyi was fake evicted by Biggie to teach a ‘lesson’ for refusing to use the Veto power of chance card he won a week before.

On Monday, he was nominated alongside Mike, Tuoyo, Seyi, Tacha and Frood. He, however, refused to save himself with the card which cost him the card.

NAN also reports that Biggie went on to ban him from owning the power of chance card till the show ends.

Tacha was also fake evicted due to constantly commenting that she had followers who will keep her in the house till the last day.

NAN reports that the remaining housemates, who were still shocked from the eviction, continue to battle for the Grand Prize worth 60 million Naira.

  • BBNaija: Avala, Isilomo bow out

Avala and Isioma are the two housemates that got evicted at BBNaija first Sunday eviction show held on July 8th, 2019. The two housemates left the house during a surprise double eviction.

Avala and Isilomo faced eviction alongside two other housemates, Gedoni, Kafhi, because of their low Bet9ja coin count. Each of the housemates had 80 Bet9ja coins and Biggie put them up for the Marble challenge during the live show. The marble challenge had the housemates roll the marble from one end to another and drop it in a container. Unfortunately, Avala and Isilomo had the lowest marbles in the bowl and were evicted immediately – leaving Gedoni and Kafhi to return to the house.

The BBNaija live eviction show on Sunday also featured an energetic performance from Afro-pop artist, Mayorkun who thrilled the audience with his latest hit single ‘True’ and his other hit singles, ‘Che Che’ and ‘Bobo’ whilst DJ Exclusive entertained the crowd as the night’s resident DJ.

There are now only 19 housemates in the house.

The first season of the show first aired in 2006. This was followed by ‘See Gobe’ in 2017 which was won by Efe Ejeba. In 2018, Miracle Ikechukwu won ‘Double Wahala’.

  • BBNaija’s Anto says she’ll not be bullied into undergoing cosmetic surgery

Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Munirat Antoinette Lecky, popularly known as Anto, has said she’ll only undergo cosmetic surgery if she wants to and not because of someone else’s opinion.

Anto who claims to have been receiving messages from people body shaming her, encouraged women to love themselves and embrace their body flaws irrespective of people assertions.

The ex-housemate in a lengthy Instagram post said “People will provoke you and judge you, but as long as you KNOW that you are a QUEEN, nothing else matters”

She said: “I’ve received a lot of messages lately about how to boost one’s confidence and composure. Just a few pieces of advice…

“People will provoke you and judge you, but as long as you KNOW that you are a QUEEN, nothing else matters. And yes it’s easier said than done because people will piss you off; you’ll do a lot of pep talking to yourself, but as long as you believe in you, you’ll be fine.

“Some days are better than others, but it’s being able to move past the previous day that makes you stronger.

“I know ALOT of us have body image issues. Just know that anyone who judges you based on your looks is an idiot (yes I said it). I can’t even count how many people I blocked the other day for commenting that I didn’t have boobs.

“Yeah I know and so  same people abusing me now will be the same ones to abuse me if I get cosmetic surgery.

“When you accept that those “flaws” you have are what make you unique, you will begin to love what you see in the mirror.

“So, I know I have a big forehead, big pointy nose, slim frame, veins that are very visible, small breasts, invisible waist, no too much ass, hip dip, deep voice, dark skin, walk like I’m pregnant, look like a granny, but I LOVE it.

“And if ever I decide to do cosmetic surgery, it will be because I WANT to and not because of someone else’s opinion of me

“What some people hate, others will love. So love those that love you and ignore those that don’t ”

  • BBNaija season4 scammers : Multichoice cautions upcoming artistes

Multichoice has dissociated itself from the activities of a scammer who is trying to defraud upcoming musicians who wish that their works are aired on Big Brother Naija Show Season Four.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) investigation reveals that the scammer, identified as Fola, is requesting the artistes to pay different sums for their acts to feature in the show.

Foa sends Whatsapp announcements to the musicians to enable them to participate in the show at a fee.

The deal has three packages, namely, per song rotation in the house, performance at the live shows and a DJ package.

The first package costs N150, 000, the second, N450, 000 and the third, N250, 000.

Under the deal, the artistes are to be invited to play on one of the Saturday parties that are part of the BBNaija show.

NAN found that the money is to be paid into a proxy account not connected to DStv, a direct broadcast satellite service owned by Multichoice, the organisers of the show.

When approached, a representative of the promoter simply asked NAN for the package the artiste wanted and if he would love to perform or have his songs played in the house.

The representative thereafter requested the artiste to make payment and send the song via mail.

The representative insisted that the organizers were mindful of their reputation.

Some artistes (names withheld), who have already subscribed to the proposal, told NAN that they were taken in because they believed that it was usual practice of such payments to avoid any official trace.

They said though they have subscribed, they are yet to make their payment.

Meanwhile, the DStv, has refuted the claims of the group and promptly issued a statement distancing itself from the deal.

The company said: “some information has been circulation that Big Brother Naija will give music artists an opportunity to air their songs for a fee.

“Please note that the information is utterly false. Multichoice Nigeria does not and will not solicit for payment from anyone to play their songs during the Big Brother Naija season four.

“Also note that we have not authorised any individual, group of individuals or organisations to act on our behalf. Please be guided and do not be a victim of fraud.

  • BBNaija: Fans to vote for one more housemate

MultiChoice Nigeria has announced the commencement of online voting for BBNaija online auditions, which held from 25th to 27th February. Contestants were expected to record a two-minute video, stating why they should be picked to become housemates in this year’s Big Brother Naija.

The online auditions were an unprecedented move by MultiChoice Nigeria and a way of giving voice to the audience, giving them the power to vote a Housemate into the House.

10 contestants were selected from the online auditions and the voting portal (https://africamagic.dstv.com/show/big-brother-nigeria/audition) opened on Thursday and DStv and GOtv subscribers are expected to vote daily for the personality they would like to see in the house; this started from March 21, and will end on March 31 2019.

Organisers say voting is open to only active DStv and GOtv subscribers who may vote in 10 voting round(s) across the voting period. Voting rounds are open from 9am to 11pm on March 21 and from midnight to 11pm from March 22nd to March 31st.

To vote, participants are to simply register on https://africamagic.dstv.com/show/big-brother-nigeria/audition using their Twitter of Facebook username, enter their smartcard, phone number, and accept the official voting rules. Once that is done, a voter will be taken to the audition page to meet the 10 candidates. The voter can then select the preferred candidate and will receive a verification message.

MultiChoice Nigeria CEO, John Ugbe believes that the online auditions democratise the BBNaija process.  “The online auditions are a way of involving our subscribers in the decision-making process of who gets to go into the house. They are the reason the show remains popular, always rooting for their favourite Housemates. Also, just thinking about the people who turned up for the physical auditions, we thought to give them another opportunity. Big Brother is a fun show and rejigging things a little bit shows that there is no predetermined script even though it continues to follow the international format,” he said.

  • BBNaija:Tobi didn’t influence my success – Alex Unusual

Reality star Alexandra Asogwa, a.k.a Alex Unusual, set social media on ‘fire’ on Wednesday night, after she insisted that her success in season 3 Big Brother Naija “Double Wahala’ show was not influenced by her pairings with Tobi Bakre and Leo Dasilva.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alex also said though she preferred Tobi to Leo; she was not interested in starting a romantic relationship with him as they are just friends.

The dancer, host, model and writer who was the third runner-up of BBNaija: Double Wahala, clearly stated that contrary to popular opinion, the men she was paired with did not contribute immensely to her long stay in the show.

According to her, although she had a good run with Leo and Tobi while the pairings lasted, they did not make her rather, it was her personal choices and decisions that took her to the finals.

The 23-year-old was first paired with Leo at the beginning of the show which blossomed into an emotional relationship. Thereafter, she was paired with Tobi which fast became the fans-favourite ‘Tolex’.

NAN recalls that fans noted that they was a clear difference in Alex’s behaviour with the two men especially since she was more expressive when paired with Tobi in the house.

When host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu asked her if Leo confined her, she said although she is a naturally expressive person, Leo usually advised her to let things go or does not notice things she complained about.

Meanwhile, with Tobi, she could express herself better. She also noted that he was a good support system for her while the show lasted.

She said, “My friendship with Tobi was just there. At least it was fun. He understood me to a great extent and there were times when I couldn’t go on, I wanted to give up and he was there.

“It was cool having someone that saw things the way I saw them and allowed me to express myself (much more than Leo did).

“With him, I wasn’t having to hold a lot of things back because when I tell him, he will be like, ‘I even noticed it myself’,” Alex said.

Still, she insisted that she does not want a romantic relationship with Tobi when Ebuka asked her if she would love them to be “more than friends.”

She replied, “I won’t say I wanted more. Being very close friends, I don’t know what more I would have wanted when you are very close friends. I don’t want to date Tobi.”

Ebuka also asked if she felt like she betrayed Leo seeing that she immediately paired with Tobi despite crying when Leo was evicted.

Alex said, “No, there is one thing I want to get cleared; for me, I don’t think I betrayed anybody or I hurt or did anything bad to anyone in the house.

“I actually feel like everyone that came close to me, I helped or I positively influenced their lives in and outside the house,” she said.

Her responses elicited mixed reactions from fans as she became number one on the Twitter trends from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

@Sedouke tweeted, “She was obviously holding back something. She wasn’t genuine with her responses at all, even Tobi didn’t look impressed. Wondering why she looked so tensed and up tight.”

Ms_tifey said, “Sharp girl. It’s not everything the whole world must know.”

@Sexyciara123 said, “Alex is the real double wahala trending at no1 and why are you guys trying so hard to force fight on tolex?

“She said so many sweet things about her partnership with tobi! So what is the issue. #bbnaija #DoubleWahalaReloaded”

@_onenigeria tweeted, “Alex is sad! She is sad. Something’s just not right with her. She’s angry with Leo, Tobi, her make up, everything! #DoubleWahalaReloaded”

@Erunke said, “Noticed how Ifu was rubbing Alex hands trying to make her careful of what she was saying.”

@Toracledaughter tweeted, “You guys will not downplay Alex’s achievements so far. Alex has always been grateful and thanking Tobi for pushing her, even last night!

“She still said she preferred Tobi who understands her better. But you will not downplay the fact that she is a brand on her own! #Bbnaija.”
