#BBNaija: Warri residents organize prayer session for Efe

As the race to Sunday’s Big Brother Naija grand finale gets more interesting, residents of Warri have organized prayer sessions for one of the housemates, Efe at “God’s command church”. The sessions which held this morning saw men and women dressed in branded shirts of Efe praying for him to emerge victorious. In a video that was released on twitter earlier, a congregation of about twenty gathered to pray having the 24 year old’s picture placed in a Bible.

Tboss, Marvis, Debbie-Rise and Efe are finalists in the ongoing entertainment show and the person with the highest number of votes wins an SUV and twenty five million naira.

In recent days, fans of the housemates have intensified  campaigns  for their favorite housemates on various social media and many celebrities are already publicly supporting their favorites.

#BBNaija Day 73: Marvis wears Head of House crown on birthday

Marvis, one of the top five finalists in the ongoing Big Brother Naija (#BBNaija) reality TV show, on Wednesday was crowned Head of House (HoH) with the title: `Emere Nkpornwi 1′.

Marvis’ crowning also coincided with her birthday as she became a year older.

Her choice for HoH came from “Biggie,” owner of the houses’ discretionary power given to DebbieRise, who was the HoH for Tuesday to select the next HoH.

Biggie, this week had introduced another twist to the show by making a new rule that states:

“The crown of substantive Head-of-House will be passed among the housemates daily as the show comes to an end on Sunday, April 9.”

DebbieRise who is a strong ally of fellow housemate Tboss was the first housemate chosen for leadership this week.

She was crowned the HoH by her predecessor Bisola.

Bisola became HoH penultimate week after she luckily picked the balloon with the title, ‘Head of House’ in it.

She and DebbieRise previous week, engaged in a heated argument, resulting in DebbieRise calling her (Bisola) “senseless.”

Others to be crowned head of house according to the new rule are Efe, Tboss and Bisola.

  • Bassey evicted from Big Brother Naija

Bassey evicted from Big Brother Naija

    •Leaves Debie-Rise sobbing

Seventy eight days after the Big Brother Naija reality show started, muscle man Bassey Ekpeyong was evicted from the show on Sunday evening. Hugging the rest of the housemates perfunctorily, Bassey, dressed in a black apparel with yellow trimmings, made perhaps the swiftest exit from the house.

Debie-Rise, Bassey, Bally and T-Boss had been up for eviction.

But Debie-Rise who was the first to be saved was in tears.  Even as Bassey was being interviewed, the camera showed Debie-Rise sobbing. She was the closest to him in the house and they spent many hours making music together.

“She’s the only one person I was comfortable with,” said Bassey in response to how he felt about her. He also said Debie-Rise wanted to be “more emotional” with him but he “didn’t want to lead her on and break her.”

So, guitar playing Debie-Rise should forget any idea of dating Bassey because he curtly said, “I have a girlfriend.”

Upon being showed Debie-Rise sobbing over his eviction and asked what he’ll say to her if he could, Bassey said, “Debie-Rise, I’ll tell her, Debie, be strong. The battle is not to the strong or the most talented but it’s just God that shows mercy. She says that every day, so she should be strong.”

While Bassey confessed to “feel bad” about not winning, he said getting this far in the reality show “is all win-win for me.”

Bassey also confirmed Efe as a threat during the Payporte games.

“He is a fast person and calculative,” Bassey said.

The latest housemate to be evicted also said the toughest part was dealing with emotion.

“I had a couple of ladies that wanted to do stuff with me,” he said.

When asked who he liked between Debie-Rise and Uriel, Bassey responded, “I really like Debie, I’m not going to lie but I admire Uriel.”

Upon going out, he said he looks forward to working with Don Jazzy.

With Bassey’s eviction, six housemates – Bally, Efe, Marvis, Debie-Rise, T-Boss and Bisola – remain in the Big Brother Naija house.

Prior to the eviction, Marvis hesitatingly described Debie-Rise as not being a go-getter and Bally described as ‘indifferent’ whether he remained in the house or not.

The kicker in this week’s eviction, according to the BBN host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, is that four of the housemates would be nominated. However, by Wednesday, the remaining housemates would have a chance to save one of the nominated housemates. And should there be a stalemate, the remaining four housemates would still be up for eviction.

The show which started with 12 real housemates and two fake housemates, he added, would be rounded off on April 9 with one winner going home with the prize of N25 million and a Kia Sorento car.

  • Expectations for the week

    Expectations for the week

In Nigeria, no day or week passes without its uniqueness, controversy and news. Last week, many happenings around the various segments will still unfold this week majorly because there is continuous unending drama surrounding them.

One of such happening is the great revelation by an online media that Kogi west representative at the Senate, Mr. Dino Melaye did not graduate from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The bold, tall and huge senator fired back warning his ‘enemies’ to back off and that he has seven degrees including a degree from the renowned Harvard University.

Soon after his statement, Harvard University replied saying the Kogi born politician did not attend the institution. The senator even went on to post a picture of him observing the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1999 although his statement of result from Ahmadu Bello University shows he graduated in 2000.

Sen. Melaye said he has sued the online publication alongside the publisher to court but obviously the public will want a clearer explanation on the actual situation of things.

With the Vice-chancellor of the institution declaring on the floor of the Senate today that Melaye actually graduated with a third class in 2000, the last may not have been heard concerning this yet, and more revelations may burst up this week.

The Senate has been in the news in more recent weeks and the claim by Senator Shehu Sani last week that the Secretary to the Federal Government, Babachir David Lawal awarded contracts to ‘ghost firms’ has put the red chamber more on the headlines. Last Friday, a statement from the SGF urged the general public not to be misled into the belief that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation has the authority or power to award contracts.

With Lawal to appear before the Senate soon, many Nigerians are hopeful to get a clearer understanding of the situation. To strengthen the Nigerian democracy, the opposition party must be a good watch-dog to the government.

However, the recent crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party has led to name-calling in the media. The two factions have been at each other’s neck and with a case already at the Supreme Court; one wonders how the dispute will be settled. This week may witness new twists and turns as per their crisis.

At the weekend, the number one in the Nigerian Professional Football League spot got a new face although it was not an unfamiliar face. Last week, star striker of MFM FC and current highest goal scorer in the league, Stephen Odey added two goals which lifted his club to the zenith but with a loss for the Olukoya boys away at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe and a win for Plateau United yesterday brought the former league leaders back to the pinnacle with 28 points. Last season’s champions, Rangers International is languishing at the bottom of the table with 12 points.

After Bassey’s eviction from the Big Brother Naija house yesterday, one wonders who will be next to leave this week. With just six housemates left, and Bisola being the new head of house, the show is gradually winding down and the fans are savoring all the excitement. Some housemates will be put up for eviction and the person with the least number of votes gets evicted on Sunday.

House agog as Don jazzy excites BBNaija housemates

It was a surprise package Monday when Don Jazzy and the duo of DNA twins visited the housemates at the ongoing Big Brother Naija show.
The housemates were overjoyed to see Don Baba J as he is popularly called, with Bisola and Efe standing on the couch and watch in surprise when he walked in.
Big Brother had earlier told the housemates that they will work with the DNA Twins on their Song task for the week’s first task.
When the housemates were busy exchanging pleasantries with the DNA twins, Don jazzy walked in, to the surprise of all of them.
The housemates gave them a tour of the whole house and Don jazzy joked that he actually came to the house to sleep, and they all laughed.
The guests were in the house to help inspire the housemates and guide them in their song task. The housemates composed a song during the music week a few weeks ago and this weeks’ task is basically to transform the song into a Nigerian hit.
This weeks’ theme is “Nigerian Entertainment Week” and what better way to start it off than to have a music icon like Don Jazzy and fresh artistes like the DNA twins to help the housemates with their song.
The DNA twins told the housemates how their music career was launched after entering talent search competitions, Glo X- Factor and The Voice Nigeria, adding that there’s always an opportunity in competitions such as these ones, as well as Big Brother.
“This (Big Brother) is a huge platform. You must have a plan in mind,” they said.
The housemates haven’t had a visitor in over a week and today’s guests were a real treat for them, especially since the visitors stayed a little longer than any other visitor and helped them with their song task.

  • How Kemen, Uriel left Big Brother Naija show

How Kemen, Uriel left Big Brother Naija show

The unusual happened on social reality show, Big Brother Naija (BBN), as Kemen was sacked from the competition for violating the rules of the game. This happened hours before the live eviction show, anchored by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, last Sunday.
Kemen, one of the two brawny housemates got the first warning strike last week for what Biggie described as conspiring with Marvis against some housemates for possible eviction. It was at this instance that Biggie cancelled last week’s nomination exercise and put up all the housemates, save for Bisola and Bally who had immunity and ThinTallTony who was able to save himself having won the Head of House task. It came as a surprise to viewers that Kemen broke the BBN rule again, especially having been made to write out the in-house rules in the aftermath of last week’s transgression. This time, he was found guilty of sexually harassing a female housemate, TBoss, while she was asleep. This is perhaps the first time any housemate will be disqualified from the show in the decade-long history of the Big Brother franchise in Africa.
Kemen, an opinionated BBN housemate, is a ship manager turned fitness entrepreneur and Port Harcourt’s most sought after personal trainer.
Banky W who visited the housemates as a celebrity guest penultimate week, made a second appearance on the show. This time, opening the live eviction show with his song, “All I Want Is You”. He later performed another of his hit songs, “Yes/No”.
Amidst palpable tension in the house, and suspense by Ebuka, the hammer of real eviction fell on Uriel, as the housemate to secure the least number of votes from fans. It was the first time that the Hammersmith, England-born housemate was put up for possible eviction. Having played her way smartly in the heart of other housemates, it was clear Uriel couldn’t garner enough liking from viewers.
Joining Ebuka on stage, Uriel was surprised to be faced with the crowd. “I’m in shock. This is crazy. I thought it was a joke. Can I go back…? “ she asked jokingly.
On her dual personality in the house, given her freer mien in the diary room, she said: “I just thought the diary room is where you go to and just express yourself and be you.”
About getting romantic with any male housemate, the radio personality who hails from Imo State said she has been single for a year and although she was attracted to Bassey whom she believed was indecisive.
Uriel who was the first housemate to enter the house on January 22, 2017, was also shocked to discover that Ese and Jon who left last week were fake housemates.
The remaining housemates can heave a sigh of relief as there will be no eviction next Sunday. However, Ebuka advised them to do less of bonding and focus on the prizes, as the game gradually moves towards the end.
The voting pattern revealed that Efe came tops with the highest vote of 39.9 percent. Kemen would have been evicted all the same, having scored 4.8 percent which represented the lowest number of votes. Uriel scored the second lowest with 7.9 percent, followed by Debbie-Rise with 8.3 percent; Bassey with 11.8 percent; Marvis with 12.9 percent and TBoss with 14.4 percent.

10 Reasons Big Brother Naija is truly a Nigerian show

It is no longer news that the return of lifestyle reality show, Big Brother Nigeria, rechristened Big Brother Naija, is being hosted in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Many have asked; how patriotic is a Nigerian show held in another country? Reasons have been given by promoters of the show on why it is economically wise to record the show from a long time purpose-built facility, given the poor infrastructures in Nigeria and the epileptic power supply that leaves organisers at the mercy of power generating sets and expensive diesel.
Here are 10 reasons why, despite odds, hosting the show from Johannesburg does not make it less a Nigerian event.
    1. The twelve housemates are Nigerians selected from the six geo-political zones.
    2. The popular Big Brother Voice is that of a Nigerian.
    3. Series Director, Gbenga Kayode is a Nigerian and Nigeria-trained.
    4. Head of content and about nine other members of his team are Nigerians.
    5. Title sponsor, Payporte is a Nigerian online retail company.
    6. Foods, drinks, fabrics, decors, props are largely from Nigeria.
    7. English, pidgin, and other Nigerian languages are permitted in the show.
    8. Nigeria’s major language interpreters have been engaged on the show
    9. Winner’s monetary prize of 25 million is in Naira
    10. Show is reaching more subscribers in Nigeria with the inclusion of GOtv channel.
