Air Force Jets Bomb Boko Haram In Sambisa

The Nigerian Air Force Saturday announced that more Boko Haram Terrorists are being attacked with air strikes in Sambisa as parts of efforts to deny the insurgents opportunity to recapture any of the nation’s territory.

According to the Air Force, Battle Damage Assessment showed that the building housing the terrorists and the terrorists were neutrilized after the bombardment of the area by the fighter jets.

A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the NAF, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya noted that in the closing stages of the Operation Ruwan Wuta II, the NAF air interdiction were focussed on the hideouts of the terrorists in Sambisa.

The statement supported with a video clip reads: “In the closing stages of Operation RUWAN WUTA II, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) continued to rain significant fire on Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) hideouts, with intensive day and night aerial bombardments.

” On 30 October 2017, the NAF conducted an air interdiction mission on a blue-roofed structure in TALALA, a BHT infested location in Sambisa.

“Intelligence reports from NAF Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance platforms as well as Human Intelligence had revealed that a sizeable number of BHTs were holding a meeting in the blue-roofed building.

” Consequently, a NAF fighter aircraft was scrambled to attack the building. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the building and its occupants were neutralized as a result of the air strike.

” It would be recalled that the NAF initiated Operation RUWAN WUTA II, on 23 October 2017, to further decimate the ability of the BHTs to freely operate with a view to giving advantage to our surface forces and thereby frustrate the efforts of the BHTs to recapture any Nigerian territory.”

They had earlier fled the area in the wake of the Boko Haram insurgency.

Batarama disclosed this on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of  Nigeria (NAN) in Buni Yadi.

“The communities had after their return re-engaged in agricultural production, and the harvests are very good.

”They cultivated sorghum, groundnuts, sesame seeds and millet, among other crops,” he said.

“This will facilitate the resettlement, reconstruction and rehabilitation of people and communities affected by the insurgency,” the chairman said.

Air Force to deploy seized Rivers copter to North East

One of the two helicopters seized by the Federal Government and handed over to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has been refurbished and ready for deployment in the fight against Boko Haram in the Northeast.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadiq Abubakar stated this yesterday at induction of the Bell 412 Utility Helicopter into the service’s fleet at 631 Aircralt Maintainance Depot, Ikeja in Lagos.

He said the helicopter would boost the military’s war against insurgency, noting its peculiar features.

According to Abubakar, the helicopter was completely refurbished in country, adding that its engines, main rotor transmissions, surveillance cameras amongst others were shipped to the United States and Canada for overhaul.

“We have inducted into the NAF inventory, one of the two handed over Bell 412 helicopters. The two helicopters were seized by the Government and transferred to the  Nigerian Air Force.

“As at the time of transfer however, the helicopters had been in containers for about two years, thus, necessitating an overhaul of its  major components such as the engines main rotor transmissions, and repair of surveillance cameras amongst other items.

These items had to be shipped to the United States and Canada for overhaul. Already, maintenance of one of the helicopters which would be deployed to the North East has been completed here in Ikeja. Work is at an advanced stage on the second helicopter which will also be inducted soon.

“The induction of these air assets will boost the NAF’s operational standing, free other Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance assets to be dedicated to operational theatres, and also save cost occasioned by the reduction in maintenance hours of air assets due to re-rolling. It is also gratifying to note that the repair and maintenance was used to give our technicians the opportunity to build capacity.

“To be effective in the increased threat environment posed by contemporary security challenges, the NAF must possess the capacity and capability to project power across and within its operational theatres of engagement. The primary means by which the Service achieves power projection is through the use of its air assets.”

A 13-passenger and two crew rotary wing aircraft, the Bell 412 Helicopter has numerous safety features including night vision capability camera for Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance operations, said Abubakar.

He said: “Indeed, the helicopter is suitable for deployment in hostile environments and can also be employed as a combat utility helicopter for humanitarian assistance, disaster relief operations as well as VIP
    transportation.

“Given the Nigerian Air Force pivotal role in the ongoing counter terrorism, counter insurgency operations and other internal security operations across the country, these platforms could not have come at a better time than now.

“Already, the service has trained pilots, engineers and technicians to take command and ensure optimal operations of the aircraft. While training of more personnel is underway to guarantee sustained deployment of the helicopters in operations, arrangements are at advanced stage to provide the required ground support equipment and spares for hitch free operation.

“I charge all personnel to demonstrate competence and proficiency, as well as operate and maintain the various platforms, equipments entrusted to your care.

In line with core values, you are not only to give your best to the service of the nation but must operate these equipment with utmost care.”

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding  (AOC) Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya said the induction ceremony was the high-point of series of activities which commenced some months ago with the logistics, assembling, ground checks and eventually flight  tests of the Bell 412 Utility Helicopter.

“This occasion particularly affirms the unswerving support the Nigerian Air Force has been receiving from the Federal Government, as well as the premium the current administration places on national security.”

At the event were Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, Commodore Maurice Eno and the Commander, 9 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Elias Attu.

Suspected Boko Haram raid kills 10 in Cameroon village

Suspected Boko Haram militants killed at least 10 villagers in northern Cameroon on Sunday night in what army and local officials said was revenge for attacks by Cameroon’s army.

Cameroon’s semi-arid far North region has been a target of Boko Haram suicide bombings and raids for eight years as the Islamist insurgency spilled over the border from Nigeria, killing 20,000 and uprooting nearly three million in the Lake Chad region.

Cameroon forces have tried to beat back insurgents but have struggled to stop unpredictable attacks that have been the hallmark of Boko Haram’s bid to carve out an Islamic state.

A senior army source said the attackers came to the village of Gouderi at 11 p.m. on Sunday and killed 11 people.

Two local officials told Reuters by phone that “about 10” had been killed.

“It looks like revenge because the army killed Boko Haram members in this village and forced others to retreat to Nigeria,” the army source said.

Residents sources informed that most of the insurgents that came for the attack didn’t returned alive as they were all killed by the troops. A feat that made the villagers to come out and started singing victory songs and praises for the troops.
Another resident informed that, “within forty five minutes, the soldiers have finished with all the Boko Haram that came to attack us. We are so happy with what transpired that is why the people of the village couldn’t resist coming out to celebrate with the soldiers. We are proud of them,” he said.

The soldiers gave them a good fight and inflicted heavy casualty on them. Though I cannot tell how many precisely were killed but many of them that came didn’t survive”.
Yesterday’s attack on Goniri appears like a resurgence of the Boko Haram activities in a relatively peaceful Yobe after the insurgents barely a week killed about ten soldiers in a dastardly attack at Sasawa, another settlement in the state.

Gov. Shettima justifies establishment of North-East Development Commission

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Sunday said the establishment of North-East Development Commission ( NEDC ) was a direct response to the large scale devastation caused to the North-East by Boko Haram insurgents.

The governor said this in a statement signed by Malam Isa Gusau, his Special Assistant on Communications and Media Strategy in Maiduguri.

According to the governor, the effect of Boko Haram insurgency is such that no geo-political zone wishes to experience.

Shetiima said, “Having a commission like the NEDC is a direct response to large scale devastation which no geo-political zone should wish to experience.’’

He said Borno would have to experience 50 years of backwardness due to destruction caused by the Boko Haram.

“A comprehensive assessment report by the World Bank put the damage at over $9 billion U.S dollars.”

“NEDC will set out for the recovery of this backwardness so that the state recovers earlier than it would have taken us to recover.

“It is not something any section of the country should wish to experience.”

Shettima noted that the development had also demonstrated Federal Government’s commitment to ensure rapid social and economic rebuilding of the region.

The governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari for signing the NEDC Bill into law.

He said that the people of the North-East would remain grateful to Buhari over his concern and commitment to their plight.

Shettima said the people were highly appreciative of “President Muhammadu Buhari’s open love for them’’ and the role of the 8th National Assembly in the passage of the bill.

‎“I must confess that if Buhari was not elected in 2015, only God knows what would have become of Borno and the rest of the North-East.

“Buhari has made determined efforts to reverse all the many years of neglect the North-East suffered from 1979 to 2015. ‘’Buhari is the greatest inspiration for us.

“The President’s passion for the North-East is clearly understandable, because this is a region that lost thousands of its precious sons and daughters, suffered destruction of public and private infrastructure worth $9 billion U.S dollars”.

The governor also commended the President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Doagara for their leadership role in the passage of the bill.

Shettima said that the people of the region were also satisfied and grateful to members of the National Assembly for good representation of the region.

“For us, they have achieved 50 per cent of what our people elected them to do at the national assembly by the passage and Presidential assent to the bill establishing the NEDC.’’

President Buhari signed the bill: The North East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2017 in to law recently.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) Sen. Ita Enang said this in a statement in Abuja on Oct.26.

The Commission is charged with the mandate to receive and manage funds allocated by the Federal Government and international donor agencies for the resettlement, rehabilitation, integration and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of victims of insurgency.

It will also tackle the menace of poverty and environmental challenges in the area.

  • The deaths around Boko Haram’s Shekau

The deaths around Boko Haram’s Shekau

Fresh from killing off — apparently metaphorically — the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, the Nigerian military has in frustration leapt on his wife and has begun to also kill her off, probably also metaphorically. It was never understood why the military would not wait for battlefield confirmation before claiming to have killed Mallam Shekau in the many times they believed he had died from battle wounds, now the public is set to be even more perplexed why the military would rush to the media to claim the possible killing of Hajiya Shekau before confirming the gory fact.

Even if she were dead, it is hard to see of what tactical value that would be to the military and the country. Killing Mallam Shekau would not guarantee the end of the rebellion in the Northeast; killing his probably non-combatant wife means nothing to the rebellion nor to anybody, including the Boko Haram leader whose warped sense of martyrdom can only be grasped by similarly demented fellows like himself. Announcing her death, even if it were true, is totally needless. They must hope that Mallam Shekau, who probably has a harem anyway, and who is destitute of all human feelings, does not come out to refute their story of Hajiya Shekau’s death. For should the military’s story be also debunked, no one will ever believe their body counts again, let alone their constant harangue about Boko Haram’s decimation and degradation.
