    BSN Lagos Area 2 celebrates 30 years with a call to action   

    Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Lagos Area 2 is marking its 30th anniversary with a week-long celebration from April 21st to April 27th, 2025.

    The theme of the celebration is ‘God, Our Hiding Place’ (Psalm 32:7), emphasizing the need for national reflection and renewal.

     According to the Chairman, BSN Lagos State Area 2, Very Revd Olatunde Onadipe, for three decades, they have played a critical role in translating, producing, and distributing the Holy Scriptures across languages and communities.

    The organization has advocated for a society rooted in biblical values and moral integrity.

     “As the organisation celebrates this significant milestone, it is calling on the government and citizens to prioritise righteousness, justice, and equity. The BSN is urging leaders to ensure the security and welfare of the people, address corruption with sincerity and implement policies that reflect compassion, accountability, and long-term vision,” he stressed.

    The BSN is also calling on the church and citizens to live by Godly principles and be the light Nigeria needs, as well as uphold biblical values and moral integrity.

    On the 30th-anniversary celebration activities, the man of God explained that there would be free distribution of scriptures, outreach programs to spread the Word of God, a public lecture on national renewal through the Word of God, thanksgiving and recognition of key partners, and a visit to SOS Children’s Villages.

     As the BSN looks back with gratitude and forward with purpose, it reaffirms its commitment to the Word of God as the sure foundation for building a better Nigeria.

    Obasanjo, Gowon, Jonathan, others for BSN African leadership initiative conference

    Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, former President Goodluck Jonathan, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and other notable figures are scheduled to attend the 11th edition of the African Leadership Biblical Initiative (ABLI) conference, organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN). 

    The event, themed “Value-Based Leadership: A Model for Africa,” will take place at the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) Conference Centre in Abuja from Monday, October 21 to 24.

    During a recent media briefing in Lagos, Pastor Samuel Sanusi, General Secretary and CEO of the Bible Society of Nigeria, explained that the ABLI was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2010 during a special session of the African Union prayer breakfast, attended by African Heads of State and Governments.

    He pointed out that Africa is facing severe challenges, being regarded as the least developed and poorest continent globally. 

    He said: “How did we reach this point? The root causes have been poor leadership, greed, corruption, and mismanagement.

    He further said that through this conference “We desire to stir up the minds of our leaders to embrace leadership with integrity and fear of God. We desire to birth leaders who will lead with honesty, transparency, and a steadfast commitment to ethical principles: leaders who will take decisions that align with core values of integrity.”

    He noted that the society desired to set a new agenda for African leaders and Nigeria in particular, calling on African leaders to shun greed, and corruption and rise to make deliberate efforts to develop the continent

    Keynote speakers at the event are Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng, former Chief Justice of South Africa, and Dr. Zienzi Dillon, founder and CEO, Carmel Global Capital, New York. The plenary session with the theme, ‘Values of social harmony, justice, integrity, and wisdom,’ will be moderated by Mrs. Juliet Binitie, Director of Programmes, Institute for National Transformation, Lagos, Prof. Mike Ozekhome, Justice Catherine Bamugemereire, Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda and Dr. Vishal Mangalwadi, social reformer and Christian philosopher

    BSN honours Ajayi, Alakija, Ehigiamusoe

    The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has concluded plans to honour the Founder of the Love of Christ Generation Church, Rev Mother Esther Ajayi; the Group Managing Director of Rose of Sharon Group, Mrs. Folorunsho Alakija and the pioneer Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Micro Support Services, Mrs. Elizabeth Ehigiamusoe with the award of selfless service to God and humanity.

    Its Manager, Media and Public Relations, Benjamin Mordi, said that the award, which is part of activities marking BSN’s 15th Founder’s Day annual lecture holds at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Victoria Island, Lagos on February 8.

    Mordi said that the programme will be chaired by the Group Managing Director of Wetherheads Advertising Group, Pastor Abiodun Iderawumi. 

    The theme for this year is: “Security, social justice and poverty eradication: Clarion demands on governance in Nigeria” and the guest speaker is a veteran Journalist, Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of Corporate Biographers, Mr. Mike Awoyinfa.

    Other dignitaries expected at the occasion are The Patron of The Bible Society of Nigeria, Gen. Dr. Yakubu Gowon GCFR, who is the Father of the Day; Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Chief Executive Officer of Ocean Glory Commodities Limited, Mr. Peter Chiori, who is the Special Guest of Honour; the Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Hon. Idowu Senbanjo as Guest of Honour, and other captains of industries.

  • BSN empowers business executives

    A leading business school and the pioneer of action learning MBA, Business School Netherlands,  said it plans to empower Nigerians with scholarships.

    Director of the School in Nigeria, Mr. Lere Baale,  said: “Our umbrella theme is – Celebrating 30 years of Resilience. A line-up of activities will be taking place all through the year. We call upon our students, alumni and the general public to join the celebration.”

    In a statement, he said the school will hold an essay competition on: “The Application of Action Learning to Business Growth.” He said Nigerian working class professionals stand to win scholarships for its Executive Masterclass programmes.     The school enjoined students, alumni and the general public to join her celebrations. “We have many reasons to celebrate. We are celebrating Resilience, Learning, Dedication, Achievements, Impact, Recognition, and Bright Future” the statement concluded.

    The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has opened its Deaf translation centre and 110 Chronological Bible Stories for the Deaf in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

    BSN’s General Secretary Rev Dare Ajiboye said the organisation’s mission is to meet the scriptural needs of every Nigerian.

    He expressed joy the deaf in Nigeria could now have access to the word of God in local sign language, adding that the centre would be continue to translate the Bible.

    The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja Diocese, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, represented by the Catholic Archbishop of Ibadan Diocese, Most Rev. Leke Abegunrin, condemned the attitude of the government and the society to the physically challenged.

    He said the neglect of the physically challenged was unacceptable.

    He charged Nigerians to see them as gifts from God, urging them to express the love of God to them.

    He praised BSN for her initiative in building the centre.

    General Secretary of the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN), Rev Dar Ajiboye, has called on church leaders to empower the organisations to deliver more on its mandates.

    He lamented many of them have been indifferent to the operations of the organisation, saying the situation must change.

    “Many of them see no use for a Bible society. Yet they are what they are today because they use the Bible,” he said.

    Recalling what the 50-year-old society faced in the course of fundraising, Ajiboye said some churches would not even accept their request to come and worship with their congregations, let alone solicit for funds.

    He however commended a handful of the churches that have been of help to the organisation.

    On achievements of BSN, he said: “We have been able to create Bible stories in sign language,’” adding that the BSN is the first member of the United Bible Society in 200 countries around the word to do that.

    “Our translation centre is now in Ibadan—run by our trained staff. We used to go to Kenya to meet the translation consultant before,” he added.

    He said no fewer than 10 translation projects are on-going now and a transaction project gulps about N40 million, not reckoning with other expenses.

    BSN donates 1,000 Bibles to Lagos Police

    THE Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has donated customised 1,000 bibles to the Lagos Command of the Nigeria Police.

    Speaking at the event, which held at the Police College Chapel on Sunday, the Society’s General Secretary Richard Dare Ajiboye, said the objective of the donation was to boost evangelism among policemen, adding that the Bible is a weapon members of the force could deploy to succeed in their work.

    He said: “We are here to contribute our quota to equipping you with the spiritual weapon to succeed in your enormous task of policing the country. As you go about your work of protecting lives and protecting, you will also need the Word of God to guide you and to help bring others to the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.’’

    Last year, he said, the BSN donated Bibles worth N17.1million to some groups as part of its Free Bible Distribution scheme and 2,000 Bibles to the Nigerian Army.

    Chaplain of state Police Command, Venerable Omolaja Abiodun, a DSP, praised BSN management for the gesture. He recalled that when he chanced on a customised copy of the BSN Bible, the Fellowship led a delegation to the Society to request for a similar Bible. ‘’This gift is indelible in our hearts. It will help save our families,’’ he said. He said when one led a policeman to God, he would be saving a nation from calamity, adding: ‘’No one remains the same after an encounter with the word of God.’’

     

  • BSN holds competition

    General Secretary, Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Dare Ajiboye has urged the government to make the study of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) compulsory in secondary schools.

    He spoke in Palmgrove, Lagos during this year’s BSN’s Secondary Schools Bible Competition.

    He said the study of the subject would not only make pupils to be serious but also help minise challenges of social vices.

    He said the competition was aimed at making pupils have a deep knowledge of the word of God, adding that it would also make them successful in their careers.

    Chairman of the occasion, Olugbenga Fadiya urged the pupils to be good Christians, adding that one day they be required to give account of themselves to God.

    In the final competition, six schools slugged it out. They were: Prestige Educational Centre, Port Harcourt, Baptist Heritage School, Oyo; Baptist Academy School, Kano; Elijah Goodnews, Gombe; Elijah Paradise Academy, Kaduna and Methodist High School, Aba.

    Baptist Heritage School won the first position. The second position went to Methodist High School, Aba while Prestige Educational Centre came third. Baptist Heritage team led by Miss eatrice Aboade and Kemi Olayinka picked the trophy for their school.

    The highlight of the occasion was when Little Dabeluchukwu Naomi Chukwudi-Onyeaka of Leadersfield Academy, Gowon Estate, Lagos recited the longest verse in the Bible –Psalm 119.  Dare praised her effort and urged her to continue in it.

    BSN is 50

    BIBLE Society of Nigeria (BSN) will be 50 on February 8, next year. To celebrate the golden event, the body has unveiled activities lined up for it.

    At a briefing yesterday, its General Secretary, Rev Richard Dare Ajiboye, said the Society, which was inaugurated in Lagos, started from a small office with  a small staff, which has grown over the years.

    He listed some the achievements of the group as: translation of the Bible into 24 nigerian languages, distribution of over two million bibles last year; publication of special editions of the Bible, such as the 100th Anniversary of Nigeria last year and establishment of Area offices in all the 36 states, among others.

    He said the celebration would kick off on February 2, next year with an exhibition, followed by a youth rally, luncheon and end with a lecture/awards on February 8 at the MUSON Centre, Lagos.

    Ajiboye unveiled the logo of the anniversary at the briefing.

    At the event were Chairman, BSN@ 50 Planning Committee, Mr Gbenga Olayeye; the group’s Elders’ Forum, Pastor Bayo Oladosu and BSN’s Assistant Secretaries, Pastor Victor ‘Oluwadamilare (Publishing and Kola Shokunbi (Finance).

     

  • BSN ends marathon reading

    THE Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has ended this year’s Bible Reading Week.

    Its General Secretary Rev Richard Ajiboye kicked off the event at the All Saints Anglican Church Oshodi, Lagos.

    He said the event held in 42 centres in the state.

    The participating churches were Methodist Church Nigeria, The Apostolic Church and Anglican Communion, among others.

     He inaugurated the event by reading Genesis chapter 1.

    He urged Christians not to treat the Bible not just as an ordinary book but as the living word of God.

    Speaking on the theme drawn from Joshua 1: 8, Ajiboye said those who read the Bible should endeavour to meditate on it and practice it.

    Noting that Nigerians are highly religious, he said the problem was that those who read the Bible do not practise it.

    “If they do,” he added, ”Nigeria will be transformed.”

     The BSN helmsman said the practice of group Bible reading was not new, noting that Jesus Christ did it the first day he entered the temple.
