    Kaduna Nuj honours Buratai

    Kaduna State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has gtiven “Icon of Peace and Security in Nigeria” award to Lt General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (rtd), former chief of Army Staff.

    The award was presented at NUJ Kaduna Press Week: “Role of Media in Holding Government Accountable for Good Governance: Emerging Challenges and Prospects.”

    Balarabe Lawal, mnister of Environment, presented the award to Buratai, represented by Rear Admiral Abdul Adamu (rtd).

    This award recognised Buratai’s contributions to national security and peace as chief of Army Staff.

    Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, was also honoured for  his commitment to national security.

    Samuel Aruwan, lead discussant, spoke on media’s role in promoting good governance, while Titus Amba, national president of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), gave insight into the intersection of education and media in shaping public discourse.

    Also at the event was Sen Uba Sani, who served as the special guest of honor. He highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainable peace and security in Nigeria.

    Politics must not becloud Nigeria’s unity, sovereignty – Buratai

    Former Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai has stated that those advocating for Nigeria’s division are dreamers, emphasising that the nation’s unity and sovereignty should not be compromised for political reasons.

    Speaking at the 60th birthday celebration of the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, held at his palace in Kuta, Osun state, Buratai remarked that Nigeria is indivisible and that secessionists will always remain dreamers.

    He said: “Nigeria is one unless you remove those people who are agitating, they should drift to the Atlantic, we will remain one Nigeria, anybody who wants to leave Nigeria should carry the part of the land and take it to the Atlantic; not within the Nigeria territory, it is very clear with the level of integration.

    “There are many Hausas here in Yoruba land, there are many Yoruba and Igbo in the north, so we should not allow politics to becloud our sense of unity and sovereignty. Anybody that says that he wants to leave Nigeria is a dreamer because we had a bitter experience during the civil war so it is not something that we will joke with.

    “Peace-loving Nigerians should insist on focusing on development, that is what we need and we need more unity not only by word of mouth but by action and true development.”

    Also, Oba Oyelude reiterated his commitment in ensuring to advocate for Nigeria’s unity, adding that, “seeing the array of personalities from all works of life here today, I will rededicate myself to the oneness of Nigeria.”

    Among the dignitaries present are, Former president of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Osun ex-governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Retired Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, Secretary to Osun State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Owaloko of Ijesha, Oba Hakeem Ogungbamigbe among others.

    Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai emphasised the importance of prayers in addressing the challenges of life and security in Nigeria. “Prayer is the weapon of the believer’, he said, and called for prayers for peace and prosperity in the country.

    Buratai eulogises late Olubadan

    Aare Akinrogun of Ibadanland and former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Yusufu Buratai CFR has described the late 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun(Alli Okunmade II) as a detribalised Nigerian who lived to serve humanity, Nigeria and the people of Ibadanland.

    He also described his death as painful.

    Buratai stated this on Saturday, at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan, Oyo State, at the civic reception organized for the late Olubadan by the Oyo State Government. He described the late Olubadan as a responsible king who dedicated his life and time to promoting the unity and oneness of Nigeria.

    Buratai said the death was a great loss, stressing that “we have lost a friendly, jovial, compassionate and loving monarch”.

    Speaking further, he said, ” he did not just accord me respect as an elder statesman, I was also honoured with a chieftaincy title of Aare Akinrogun of Ibadanland and I’m proud to be associated with the late Olubadan.”

    Ambassador Buratai who earlier paid a visit to the family of another late Olubadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, where he was received by the families and Oloris of the late Olubadan Adetunji, prayed for the family.

    He informed the family that he was in Ibadan for the final burial ceremony of the late Oba Balogun, and he found it expedient to also visit the families of the late Oba Saliu Adetunji too.

    Recall also that Tukur Foundation, a Non-governmental Organization (NGO), also set up a three-day free medical outreach to honour the departed Oba Balogun.

    Amb Buratai, however,  prayed for the success of the new Olubadan and urged him to build on the legacies of his predecessors.

    concerned Citizens of Northeast hosted their awards and dinner, where individuals were recognised for their contributions to the region. Among awardees were rof Babagana Umara Zulum, Sheikh Goni Usman, and Ummu Muhammad.
    Lt Gen Tukur Buratai stole the spotlight as the shining light of Northeast.
    Maj Gen I.D. Penap praised Buratai for his visionary leadership. Guest speaker, Dr Hassan Boguma said Buratai’s transformative military leadership led to defeat of Boko Haram in the region.

    Gen Buratai expressed his gratitude for the award. He stressed the importance of supporting and empowering youth, noting they are often left. Buratai called for programmes from the government and private sectors to unlock potential of the younger generation.
    The former Army chief highlighted the need for unity and development in Northeast, with a focus on combating ethnicity, religion, and sectionalism.
    Concerned Citizens of Northeast provides a platform for Northeast to come together and build a better future for the region.
    Lt Gen Buratai’s recognition serves as a reminder of the importance of strong leadership and dedication to development of the region.
    His commitment to empowering youth and driving change sets an example for others to follow.

    Buratai: we’ll solve security challenges

    A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), has predicted an end to Nigeria’a security challenges.

    General Buratai spoke at the presentation of books by Director of Academic, Planning and Quality Assurance, Nigerian Army University, Biu in Borno State, Brigadier General Mogbekeloluwa Fakokunde, in Abuja.

    The former Army chief commended the military in the war against insecurity, saying they have given their best, confident in the military woukd nip the challenges in the bud soon.

    ‘‘I want to commend them (the military). They are doing their best in the circumstances they find themselves and what is happening. It (insecurity) is not only in Nigeria, it is global. What is happening in Nigeria is not an exception.

    “We see what is happening in Sudan, Ukraine, Middle East and so on. They (the military) need to remain resolute, focused and continue the project they are doing and surely they will succeed. For sure it (insecurity) cannot be permanent, there must be a solution and we can get out of it one day,” Buratai said.

    The author said the books were written to solve stress, drug abuse and addiction as well as providing the leeway for teachers to manage stress associated with their profession.

    He said as builders of talents, teachers need the required skills and qualifications to excel and impart knowledge on their students as leaders of tomorrow.

    “If you look at these books, they are not just ordinary books, they are also working instruments addressing the problems of the society like problem of drug addicts, problem of occupational stress and others ravaging the workforce now.

    Buratai lauds Onyema on Air Peace’s inaugural flight to London

    The former Chief of Army Staff, His Excellency, Ambassador Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd) CFR, has lauded Allen Onyema, the Chairman of Air Peace Airlines for the successful inaugural Air Peace flight from Lagos to London.

    In a statement, Buratai hailed the chairman’s unwavering commitment and patriotism amidst all obstacles on the Lagos – London flight by his airline on March 30th, 2024 which arguably crashed fares on the lucrative route by about fifty percent for the benefit of Nigerians.

    He saluted the courage and resilience of Onyema, which has made him a barrier breaker and a line crosser in the aviation industry and whose triumphant launch of the inaugural Air Peace flight from Lagos to London has heralded a new era of competitive and accessible air travel for Nigerians.

    He, therefore, implored the federal government and Nigerians in general to support him wholeheartedly and not let his efforts go down the drain like others in times past. According to him, in light of the interview by Allen Onyema on Channels TV Politics Today of 9 April 2024, detailing the challenges faced with both local regulators and British Airways authorities, it is clear that the support of our government is crucial, as he is like the moon among the stars that needs the support and encouragement from all to shield him from all enemies of progress.

    Buratai admonished the British Airways authorities to show sportsmanship, maturity, and fainess to all airline operators playing the Abuja – London route.

    Buratai, while pleading with the BA authorities, nevertheless urged the Nigerian Ministry of Aviation to apply a tit-for-tat approach, should BA or its agents remain recalcitrant in the face of the current challenges being faced by Air Peace in London Gatwick Airport.

    Muslims receive warm salute at Eid

    TY Buratai Humanity Care Foundation has greeted  the Muslim Ummah on Eid-el-Fitr. This message was conveyed in a statement signed by Chairman, Ibrahim Dahiru Keffi and Betara of Biu.

    The statement highlighted the role played by the Grand Patron, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd), former chief of Army Staff.

    Gen Buratai urged the Muslim Ummah to embody the spirit of compassion and brotherhood imbibed during Ramadan.

    He called on Nigerians to pray and maintain faith in the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

    The foundation, guided by its motto: “Service to Humanity,” pleaded that global leaders intervene and bring an end to the crises in Gaza, Ukraine, and Russia.

    In a bid to support the less privileged, the foundation encouraged those more fortunate to help those in need.

    Member of Lagos State House of Assembly, representing Ifako -Ijaiye 01, Adewale    Adedeji, also hailed Muslims in his constituency and across the nation.

     In his message,  Adedeji emphasised significance of Eid-ul-Fitr, highlighting its essence of charity, and gratitude, particularly during challenging times.

     He said: ‘’Eid-ul-Fitr reminds us of the importance of charity, generosity, and gratitude towards one another, especially during these challenging times.

     “As we mark the end of Ramadan, a month of fasting and prayer, I urge Muslim faithful to continue to live an exemplary life worthy of emulation by extending a helping hand to the needy, forgiving one another and fostering harmony and unity among people of all backgrounds and beliefs.”

    Buratai tasks Nigerians on excellence, nation building

    Former Chief of Army Staff and Ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has urged Nigerians to strive for excellence in their various roles to support nation building.

    Buratai said this at the 5th Edition of the Nigeria News Magazine Award 2023 with the theme “Providing a Podium for the Unsong Hero”, held in Abuja.

    He also emphasised the important need of recognising and celebrating excellence, saying it would encourage hard work, dedication and mentorship in service delivery.

    He commended the News magazine for recognising those who had contributed to the nation through hard work, dedication, loyalty and patriotism.

    The former army chief said the recognition of a prominent traditional ruler, Oba Hammeed Makama, the Olowu of Owu-Kuta Kingdom, as Legendary Icon of the Year, as well as other nominations, were well deserved.

    “Oba Makama is a man that should be accorded all the honour that is deserved as an icon, a legendary icon, a true patriot, a true Nigerian traditional leader.

    “You have done well for your community, you have done well for the southwest and you have done well for Nigeria,” he said.

    Buratai noted that the serving and retired military officers that were recognised had stood in the warfront against insurgency, insecurity and in defending the nation against elements that were bent on sabotaging and subverting Nigeria’s sovereignty.

    According to him, retired Maj.-Gen. Victor Ezugwu, has done the Nigerian Army, the armed forces and the country proud in the various capacities he served.

    “He performed as a Brigade Commander, as GOC, as Commandant, Depot Nigerian Army, as Director General of Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, as well as Corps Commander, Infantry Corps until his retirement.

    “As a loyal Nigerian and as a trained soldier, you must at all costs, show loyalty to the constituted authority and you must show loyalty to your leaders,” he said.

    He congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his leadership, commitment and doggedness in spite of the daunting challenges facing the nation.

    Olowu of Kuta, Osun State, Oba Hammeed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, has congratulated former Chief of Army Staff and Nigerian High Commissioner to Benin Republic,  Lt Gen Tukur Yussuf Buratai (rtd) as he becomes Betera of Biu Emirate, Borno State.

    Olowu, in a statement issued by his media office, felicitated Buratai, who has been recognised across the country for his achievements as a soldier and a diplomat.

    The monarch said Buratai had acquainted himself creditably, and that explains why he’s being recognised across the country and beyond.

    The monarch said the dignitary from all walks of life who thronged the Biu Emirate in Borno State to honour the former Army Chief is an attestation to his good works, which have continued to speak for him. The epoch-making event took place at the Emir of Biu’s Palace, Alhaji (Dr.) Mustafa Umar Mustafa II, CON. By this appointment, Lt Gen TY Buratai (rtd) will be among the kingmakers of the emirate as the title is the third in the hierarchy of traditional title holders of Biu Emirate

    In attendance were the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja; Deputy Governor of Borno State, Usman Kadafur; Former COAS,  LT General  Farouk Yahaya; Olowu of Kuta Kingdom, HRH  (Dr.) Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude (CON) (Tegbosun III),  traditional rulers, and a host of other eminent personalities.

    Apart from being a retired military general and an ambassador, the former Army Chief, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai CFR, the Garkuwan Keffi, the Jagunmolu of Sakiland.
