For Men Over 40 Years “I Almost Died Of Prostate Cancer And Painful Ejaculation”

My Name is Ezekiel, An Abuja based civil servant and I would like to share my story with you as regards how I almost died from prostate cancer.

Am in my late forties, married with 2 lovely children and a beautiful housewife who is in her mid-thirties.

And as such, I have an active sex life with my beautiful woman.

I have been hearing about prostrate health issues but never really took it serious as even one of my colleague advised I also go for a checkup, which unfortunately, I never did.

But alas, it all got really bad when I was making love with my wife and as I was about to ejaculate, I began to scream as instead of pleasure, but was pure pains I was feeling down there in my penis.

My wife was actually scared, even my children had to come knocking as they were home, wondering what was happening as a result of the scream which my wife had to quickly cover up that I simply fell down in the bathroom.

That went by, from that day onward, I started to see that I could not last in bed any longer and it was getting weaker as weeks went by with the pains gradually coming and going which began to make me uncomfortable.

I simply had to alert my friend about my predicament when he recommended I went for a checkup.

After various test carried out, it was revealed I had prostate cancer which was in its early stage and needed to start taking care of myself if I didn’t want any further damage.

I also got to know that prostate cancer forms in the tissues of the prostate and grows slowly as one grows older until the person dies.

If care is not taken by that person, I was made to understand that it could cause impotency and ultimately death as there has been recorded cases of people dying from it all over the world.

This really got me disturbed because it simply meant I would not be able to enjoy my sexual activity as I used to if care is not managed.

I later got to know that men who have pot belly, arthritis or even diabetes are more prone to developing prostate cancer than the average person.

Which further got me scared the more and the more reason why I had to look for a solution.

So three months after, My friends introduced me to a 2 in 1 solution that actually helps to relief and also reverse men that are having issues with prostate cancer and enlargement issues, which I was skeptical about. Click Here Now

Niger governor’s wife leads walk against cancer

Wife of Niger State governor  State Governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello has led a 5km breast cancer awareness walk in Minna, the state capital.

It’s aim was to sensitise women in the state on the dangers and prevention of the disease.

Everyone on the awareness walk tagged ‘Let’s Walk Breast Cancer Away’ had on a pink shirt and peak cap.

Speaking to newsmen, Bello, who is the founder of RAISE Foundation, said the walk was to create awareness on cancer, how it can be prevented and how it can be detected earlier and to raise funds to treat cancer patients.

She said, “It is an awareness campaign we are doing to bring to the fore the knowledge of cancer and how it can be prevented. This cancer walk is in commemoration of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month which is always celebrated every October.”

The governor’s wife said that exercise is a good way to prevent cancer, adding that exercise is also good for the body. She stated that her foundation also has a cancer screening centre which will be screening women throughout the year.

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Professor Musbau Akanji who was a participant in the walk, said the initiative of the walk by the governor’s wife is a good way of creating awareness of cancer in the state.

Akanji, who said that his institution has lost two staff to cancer, said the institution will give the Dr. Amina all the support in her fight against cancer.

“This is a laudable initiative. Cancer is always detected late and this awareness campaign is very important in that it will make the people aware of the scourge of cancer and go for early screening and also engage in exercise to prevent the disease.”

Political appointees, civil servants and civil societies, NGOs, staffs from FUT Minna, members of the NYSC and people in the state participated in the walk.

  • Amosun’s wife donates centres to fight cancer

Determined to wage war against the dreaded cancer disease, the wife of the Governor of Ogun State and President of UPLIFT Development Foundation, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun, has donated three ultra-modern cancer screening centres in Abeokuta, Sagamu and Ota respectively.

The centres, located at the State Hospital, Ijaye in Abeokuta; Onabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu; and State Hospital in Ota, according to the first lady, are strategically situated for the use of the residents of Ogun state in its three senatorial districts of the state.

The centres will carry out clinical breast examination to detect cancer early while vaccines for the prevention of human papilloma virus, which causes cervical cancer and other infections, will be made available in these facilities based on demands. The centres also have the capacity to carry out visual inspection with ascetic acid (VIAA), with the aid of video colposcopes in which patient and doctor can have a better view on the screen display.

All the facilities are hospital based and patients with complex breast/cervical or other women related cancers can be referred to appropriate specialist in the facility. The centre in Sagamu is, however, more equipped to provide extra services. It has ultrasound machine which can be used for breast scan for those lumps that cannot be accessed clinically.

Besides, scanning of other parts of the body can be done in Sagamu to aid early detection of lesions. The centre also has facilities to perform cryotherapy for treatment of early cervical cancer lesions in order to halt the progression of the cervical cancer. The Sagamu centre also has facilities for vaccination and chemotherapy. In addition to consultation and counselling of patients, all centres have facilities for routine family planning procedures.

Speaking at the weekend during the inaguration of the centres in Sagamu and Ota, Amosun said the centres were conceived to help women.

“We need to take action against cancer because early detection is the only means of preventing and reducing the scourge of cancer in our society,” she said.

  • Cervical cancer: Rivers govt partners medical women to vaccinate 1,000 girls

Rivers State government is to partner the state’s chapter of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) to vaccinate about one thousand Rivers girls against cervical cancer, before the end of this year.

Rivers Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo, made the disclosure while speaking at the opening ceremony of the week of MWAN at the Rivers House of Assembly Complex, Port Harcourt.

She stated that the Rivers government, under Governor Nyesom Wike, would soon launch a healthcare financing scheme, in a bid to boost healthcare delivery in the state.

Harry-Banigo restated the commitment of the Rivers government towards the provision of affordable, accessible and available healthcare delivery for the people, assuring that primary and secondary healthcare services were to be made more functional, for optimal benefit.

Reflecting on this year’s International Day of the Girl Child celebration, Rivers deputy governor decried the absence of accurate data on violence perpetrated against women and children, stressing that it had impeded any plan of action to remedy the situation.

She said: “I was pleased, when I worked with the observatory on violence against women and children and found that most of the time, we do not have enough data on how much gender-based violence is going on and when we do not have enough data, we cannot really plan to remedy the situation.”

Harry-Banigo also lauded MWAN for rendering humanitarian services to the people and encouraged the body to continue its good work.

In his keynote address, the Regional Community Health Manager of Shell for Sub-Saharan Africa, Dr. Akinwunmi Fajola, stressed the need for Public Private Partnership (PPP) in healthcare delivery, noting that healthcare financing was not all about resources, but about resourcefulness.

Earlier in her welcome address, the President of MWAN, Rivers branch, Dr. Rosemary Ogu, stated that the focus of the association was to provide health information on the various health challenges facing the people and commended the Rivers government and other corporate organisations for their support towards ensuring the success of their week-long event.

  • How negative emotions can lead to cancer

How negative emotions can lead to cancer

Is there a link between cancer and unexpressed anger? A traditional medicine practitioner, Dr Godwin Ihesie, tells OYEYEMI GBENGA-MUSTAPHA more on this.

Cancer is caused by the suppression of toxic emotions; primarily anger, hate, resentment and grief. Suppression of these toxic negative emotions increases stress hormone cortisol levels, which directly suppress immune system function. When the immune system is not functioning properly, normal cells mutate into cancer cells as revealed in the six phases of cancer.

A homeopathic doctor, Dr Godwin Ihesie, urged people to do away with negative emotions such as anger, hate, resentment and grief. These negative emotions are causes of cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dr Ihesie said the root cause of cancer is by negative emotions; more so,  cancer in the right breast is spurred by conflicts with the opposite sex. Cancer in the small intestines is a result of prolonged depression. Anger, he also said, can result in cancer in the large intestine. People should learn to let go and not suppress toxic emotions- primarily anger, hate, resentment and grief.

“Cancer absolutely has emotional roots. There are so many evidences suggesting that repressed anger, hate and resentment play a crucial role in the development of cancer. Increased stress hormones caused by emotional triggers suppress the immune system, which can lead to cancer. Stress is known in the traditional and alternative communities as a major cause of inflammation. It is one thing everyone agrees on, Inflammation has been discovered at the base of all known diseases. Stress kills through cancer or heart attack or autoimmune disease. None should allow it to control his or her life. Balanced emotions equal a balanced physiological system,” said Dr Ihesie.

Explaining further, he said when it comes to cancer, there are obvious mind-body links. Stress, pessimism and other emotional factors have been proven to play a role, increasing the risk of cancer, metastasis and early mortality. In particular, stress has been shown to depress the immune system, increase inflammation and affect the bodies on the molecular level, even damaging the DNA.

He cited a researcher at the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) Fellowship, integrative medicine pioneer Isaac Eliaz, M.D., L.Ac., who discussed how negative emotions hinder immune response and fuel cancer formation and metastasis.

“The negative effects of stress have been studied in a variety of cancers including breast, ovarian, and digestive tract. In one study cited by Dr. Eliaz, breast cancer risk doubled for women after a divorce, separation or the death of their spouse. In addition to reducing our body’s resistance to cancer, stress, depression and isolation also increase metastasis. The best way out is to ensure negative emotion do not reside in the body,” said Dr Ihesie.

    Way out

“At some point most of us learned that it is a good idea to forgive people. We learned that it is “holy” or “spiritual”.  But there is a more basic reason to forgive people: when you don’t forgive them, it ruins your life’’. Dr Ihesie said the law of the universe is that humans attract what they focus on. If you are focused on fearing whatever may come, you are sending a strong message to the Universe/Nature to send you whatever you fear. Instead if you can get yourself into feelings of joy, love, appreciation or gratitude, and focus on bringing more of that into your life, you are going to avoid the negative stuff automatically. Find something to be happy about every day, and every hour if possible, moment to moment, even if only for a few minutes. This is the easiest and best protection you can have. If nothing else, be joyous that you are alive,” he stated.

He continued: “Studies have it that hostility and resentment tear down the immune system and double the risk of heart attack, cancer and other non communicable disease (NCDs) such as diabetes. So, it is good to eschew all animosity, bitterness because bitterness makes one sick.

“To forgive someone, you don’t have to agree with what they did. You just  want your life to work. Is it easy? Usually it is not. But you don’t forgive people for their benefit. You do it for your benefit,” he advised.

  • Cancer, stroke may cause more deaths in seven years

Cancer, stroke may cause more deaths in seven years

•Budget for managing diseases poor, says govt official

ReSEARCH has shown that deaths from Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) will rise in the next seven years.

Among the diseases listed are cancer, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, etc.

The Ministry of Health has lamented the lack of budgetary provisions in managing the diseases.

According to the report, these diseases will kill more than malaria and HIV.

The group spoke at its meeting in Abuja yesterday, on “Dissemination of Research Findings Programme Agenda Analysis of Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention Policies in Africa.

It warned people to desist from lifestyles encouraging these diseases.

Its leader, Prof Oladimeji Oladepo of the University of Ibadan, appealed to people to abstain from health-damaging substances, such as smoke, alcohol intake, among others.

Oladepo advised stricter measures, such as tobacco products’ ban, heavy taxation of alcohol, by governments.

He said: “Non-communicable diseases are becoming a set of diseases that kill people, probably more than malaria and HIV put together. I think within the next seven years, that is going to happen. We have the evidence of rise in incidence and prevalence of the diseases. The diseases include cardiovascular disease and stroke, we are talking about Type 2 diabetes, we are talking about hypertension. So, Nigerians should ensure that they maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising, by eating diets that are low in salt and ensuring they consume less of alcohol, or even abstain from alcohol.”

The researcher stressed that “cancer is one of the diseases that we have its incidences rising. For example, according to the World Health Organisation, we have over 800,000 cases of new cancers that occurred in 2008 in Nigeria. We also know that in Nigeria, we have tsunami of consumption of alcohol, and a toxic combination of tobacco use, and alcohol is highly prevalent in Nigeria. So, within the next few years, we are already seeing an increase in the number of people having non-communicable diseases. Unfortunately, we do not have a strong health system that could actually absorb and treat people well. We need to engage more in preventive efforts.”

In her welcome remarks, Director, Public Health Department, Federal Ministry of Health Dr. Evelyn Ngige linked the prevalence of NCDs to globalisation and industrialisation.

Ngige, who was represented by National Coordinator, Non-Communicable Diseases, Dr Nnena Ezeigwe, said, “ globalisation and industrialisation have not only brought about development but have also imposed new lifestyles and risky behaviour, such as unhealthy nutrition, overweight and obesity, lack of physical activity, harmful or excessive alcohol intake and use of tobacco upon people.

“These have consequently led to the increased incidence of non-communicable diseases, especially heart disease, stroke, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and diabetes, contributing significantly to social, economic, and health consequences.

“NCDs are virtually without a cure, extremely expensive to treat and notorious for causing debilitation, discomfort, morbidity, disability and premature death. There is therefore, a need to address its growing trend.”

In a separate remark, Ezeigwe said budget for managing the conditions in this year’s Appropriation Act is poor. “It cannot do anything.”

Ezeigwe also stressed that “we should have policies and strategies  good enough to help us address non-communicable diseases. So, we need more than that like you rightly pointed out. We need commitment in terms of budgetary provisions, in terms of human resources, in terms of making services available for the people at the primary health care level.”

‘’The thrust of the meeting is to disseminate the findings of a research that has been done, to look at the policies we have to address non-communicable diseases, to see whether there are gaps so that it can be filled.

“It is a matter of putting our priorities right. Even in the face of dwindling resources, we still have to prioritise. We must give non-communicable diseases a priority. It is about to overtake communicable diseases in terms of the importance in Nigeria.

“Previously, we used to talk about malaria, polio as the main problem. But, most of these diseases have been brought under control. You will see that Nigerians are also surviving to old age. And, non-communicable diseases are common among the elderly. It is becoming an emergency. Almost every other person is diabetic, almost every other person is hypertensive. People are slumping and dying. All these are traceable to non-communicable. If we recognise it as a problem, government will be able to allocate the meagre resource to non-communicable disease,” Ezeigwe said.

  • Ambode’s wife charges women on regular cancer screening

Ambode’s wife charges women on regular cancer screening

Wife of the Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Bolanle Ambode has advised women to go for regular cancer screening to know their latest status.
She gave the advice at the maiden scientific conference of the Lagos State branch of the Association of Female Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, at Alausa, Ikeja on Friday with the theme: ‘Cancer in the Life of a Woman not a Death Sentence (the Medical Laboratory Perspective)’.
She observed that cancer screening was necessary for early detection in case of affliction, stressing that when detected early, it could be treated and cured like any other health condition.
“Truly, cancer in the life of anyone today is certainly not a death sentence. Through relentless advocacy, public education and mass enlightenment, we have come to know that early diagnoses mean easier management of the condition and increased chances of survival.
“The message we are trying to pass therefore is that, people with the challenge should not be heartbroken or see it as the end of life. Normal, happy life is possible with a cancer condition,” she said.
Mrs. Ambode who appealed that persons living with cancer should not be stigmatized, showered encomiums on female laboratory scientists.
She said, “The role of lab scientists is such that one wonders what would happen in the health care delivery chain, if you are not there to confirm the blood groups, do the wide array of tests and general laboratory investigation that could make or mar the patient treatment process”.
Earlier, Chairperson of the Conference Planning Committee, Mrs. Audu Habibat, noted that the conference was aimed at building bridges of understanding and cooperation between the laboratory scientists and other healthcare professionals, towards improving healthcare delivery in the state.
She said that the maiden edition was dedicated to public enlightenment on cancer as a health condition that could be managed like any other if diagnosed early.
Also speaking, Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. (Mrs) Lola Akande, said the ministry also organized cancer screening for women recently to ensure their wellness.

  • Mayowa loses cancer battle in South Africa

Mayowa loses cancer battle in South Africa

Twenty-nine-year-old Mayowa Ahmed yesterday died in a South African hospital about 10 days after her admission.

The late Mayowa left Nigeria on August 11 to treat Stage IV Ovarian cancer after her family was cleared of fundraising scam allegations by the police.

When contacted, her elder sister, Mrs Tope Adeniran, told our reporter on phone that Mayowa died early yesterday.

She expressed sadness that her sister died despite all the efforts to save her through the Whatsapp Social messaging platform.

Mrs Adeniran, in tears, said: “I could not talk or text that was why I did not inform you. This is not fair; after everything.”

She said the family had hopes that the late Mayowa would survive as she was said to be responding to treatment.

“I really don’t know what went wrong.  But she was a bit better yesterday (Saturday),” she said.

A family friend, Saheed Badmus, said Mayowa’s death came as a shock because initial report was that she was responding to treatment.

“Tope called me this (yesterday) morning; she was crying.  She told me Mayowa was dead.  Yesterday (Saturday), we heard she was responding to treatment only for her to die today (Sunday).  She was in South Africa with her eldest brother,” he said.

The late Mayowa’s brother tweeted news of her death on the social media yesterday.  Using his Twitter handle, @Asiwaju_Foye, he posted two tweets: “After a tough battle with Ovarian Cancer, Mayowa Ahmed of #SaveMayowa campaign has passed on; and “She tried, we tried but God’s will prevailed #RipMayowa”.

Last week, the late Mayowa’s family released a statement, thanking Nigerians for raising funds (about N32 million – apart from the $100,000 raised online via gofundme) for her treatment abroad.

This followed the police exoneration of the family of allegations of raising the funds without plans to treat her abroad.  The allegations were raised by Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu, Aramide Kasamu of Life Stake Foundation and a  blogger, Linda Ikeji.  The police cleared all parties of wrongdoing and attributed the allegations to miscommunication.

The family had considered hospitals in the U.S., India and United Arab Emirates but settled for South Africa when other plans failed.

The family sought treatment abroad after finding it difficult to get accurate diagnosis about the late Mayowa’s ailment. The situation was compounded by her sickle cell anaemia, which made the hospitals to attribute her symptoms to Sickle cell crisis most of last year.

She was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer in June before the family started making moves to take her abroad.

  • Cancer patient’s family deny fundraising scam claim

Cancer patient’s family deny fundraising scam claim

The family of Mayowa Ahmed, a Nigerian woman who raised over N60 million to fight cancer, has decried claims by a blog that they set up the fraud to scam people.

The blog on Thursday published that the family had been told by the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) that at Stage 4 of her cancer, there was no longer hope for her but to wait to die yet went ahead to raise millions of naira locally and up to 100,000 dollars through gofundme.

It was also reported that Nollywood actress, Toyin Aimakhu, who helped with the fundraising, visited LUTH with police men to arrest the alleged scammers.
A source said the effort raised about N64million for the 29-year old woman who suffers from ovarian cancer.
However, the family in a statement, noted that despite LUTH’s verdict, they would not give up on Mayowa.
They noted that efforts are being made to fly her to Abu Dhabi by next week.
The statement reads: “We have been called by friends, family that our raising funds for Mayo is a scam. We were also informed that some persons had made statements concerning her state and her ability to pull through this ordeal.
“As a family we wish to make these affirmative statements:
    · Mayowa is presently in LUTH receiving treatments that will prepare her for seven-hour trip to Abu Dhabi. We have also engaged the services of the Flying Doctors to accompany her on the trip based on recommendation by the Doctors in LUTH.
    · Mayowa is receiving treatment in LUTH to allow her be able to travel as advised by the Doctors in LUTH and she has been transfused to help improve her PCV.
    · The funds are solely for Mayowa’ s treatment and for no other reason.
    · We await her Visa for travel documents to commence the journey as we are in touch with the doctors abroad and they are awaiting her arrival.
“We appreciate the contributions made by Nigerians on this journey. Mayowa will live to tell this story and you shall be one of the audiences by His grace.”
When The Nation put a call through to Mayowa’s sister, Tope, it was answered by a family friend, Saheed Badmus, who described Linda Ikeji’s claim as false.
He said the family only got to know Mayowa’s ailment was cancer about a month ago after about a year of regular tests at LUTH and the Reddington Hospital and are continuing with medical treatment because Mayowa’s wish to fight for her life.
“The true story is that the girl is very sick. She was in my house in March and up till that time LUTH and Reddington could not give us the cause of her sickness.
“It is not as if the family knew she had cancer like three or four months ago. We just learnt about the cancer last month because LUTH and Reddington could not give us a diagnosis from the results of the tests they had been conducting since last year. They are the major cause why we are in this situation. We had to send the test results abroad before we were told she had ovarian cancer.
“The girl said she doesn’t want to die like this. She is not giving up on herself. It is not like the hospital she is going to in (Abu Dhabi) is promising a miracle. But they can take care of her.
“Linda Ikeji is not being open-minded. Watch her (Mayowa’s) videos. She says she just wants a chance to live,” he said.
Badmus also told this reporter that he was the one that urged the family to seek help from the public in their struggle to save their daughter’s life.
“The family does not want thi publicity. I was the one that said they should seek support. They are not hungry people without jobs. But I advised them that with the enormity of the problem, they should seek help,” he said.
Another source close to Mayowa’s sister (names withheld), defended the family, saying she demonstrated integrity when they were in school together.
She added that one dose of injection for Mayowa’s treatment costs up to N4million.
She said Linda likely published the post because people normally give up when cancer gets to advanced stage.
“Linda Ikeji is going based on the stage of her ailment and the theory that once it’s stage IV there is no remedy and that is not true. It all depends on how much money you have to treat yourself; and most especially God’s grace,” she said.
