Whenever the story of high-octane weddings in 2013 is told, the ceremony heralding the union of Nonye Uba and Anyim Junior would be accorded serious mention. It was a wedding to remember as celebrities from all walks of life came out in their numbers to honour Anambra-born politician, Chief Chris Uba and former Ebonyi senator, Ude Anyim Ude, whose kids tied the nuptial knot in Abuja.

The venue of the wedding, the Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, became the point of convergence for the crème de la crème in the nation’s capital city and other prominent Nigerians. From the church to the reception at the International Conference Centre, the Secretary to the Federal Government, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim led the pack of representatives from the Presidency.

The event was also graced by Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji; Tony Ezenna, Chairman, Orange Drugs; Senator Victor Ndoma Egba; Cletus Ibeto of the Ibeto Group; Senator Joy Emordi; Dr. Timi Alaibe; Mrs Kema Chikwe; Hon. Uche Ekwunife and many others.

Another wedding that was the talk of the town penultimate Saturday was the one between the daughter of the Minister of Water Resources, Tabitha Ochekpe, and son of the former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Joseph Omeiza, at Thisday Dome, Abuja.

  • Anambra poll: Nwoye gets certificate of return

… Ubas, others shun PDP summon

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16 gubernatorial election in Anambra State, Mr. Tony Nwoye, was on Wednesday presented with a certificate of return by the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

The presentation came just as the Uba brothers, Andy and Chris shunned the summon extended to them by the leadership of the party.

Also summoned alongside the Uba brothers were Chief Benji Udeozor and Mrs. Tonia Nwankwo. They were ordered to appear before the party’s leadership at 10am on Wednesday.

None of them honoured the invitation.

They were summoned to explain their roles in the conduct of an August 24 parallel primary election through which Andy Uba emerged as PDP candidate for the Anambra poll.

Shortly after collecting his certificate, Nwoye told reporters that he remained the authentic candidate of the party.

Nwoye emerged from the Ken Emeakayi led faction from which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had withdrawn recognition.

On the other hand, Andy Uba emerged a parallel candidate from the Ejike Oguebego led faction. Oguebego is recognised by the electoral commission as the authentic chairman of the Anambra chapter of the PDP.

  • Chris Ubah’s daughter set to wed

Although a date is yet to be fixed for the wedding of PDP chieftain, Chief Chris Mba’s daughter, Barrister Nonyelum Oby Uba and Anyim Ude Jnr, the social pulse is already quickening. On Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Ubas’ Uga, Aguata, Anambra State home, Anyim Ude Jnr, son of Senator Anyim Udeh, will pay a visit with his people to perform the traditional marriage rites.

The top politician is exhaling whoops of joy because this is the first time any of his children would be preparing to tie the nuptial knots. Sources say the high society cannot wait for the proper wedding date to be announced because some of his friends want to pay Chris Ubah in his own supportive and magnanimous coin.

The Ubah household is busy with preparations, leaving no stone unturned in the bid to give the young lady a befitting wedding.
