Court jails 45-year-old man for stealing motorcycle in Ogun
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ogbodu, to one year in prison for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued N150,000.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict any option of fine.
Ogbodu, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 10 at about 1 a. m. at No. 32 Ajala Close, Temidire, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused stole the motorcycle belonging to one Taiwo Ige, but was caught by a security guard and handed over to the police.
Gbesi said that the action contravened Section 390(4) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun.

Court jails man eight months for stealing cement
An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ukpe, to eight months imprisonment for stealing 90 bags of cement valued at N229,500.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.
Ukpe, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offence on July 15 at Onihale, Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices stole 90 bags of cement valued at N229, 500 belonging to one Fatoki Sunday.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 426 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun 2006.

Man jailed three years for theft of church’s drums
For breaking into a church and stealing a set of drums valued at N75,000, a 44-year-old man, Prosper Onaka, is to spend the next three years in prison, an Ogun court ruled on Monday.
An Ota Magistrates’ Court ordered that Prosper Onaka should be sent to jail for three years for breaking into a church and stealing a drum set worth N75,000.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prosper, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and burglary brought against him.

Man arraigned over robbery of N60,000 phone at bus stop
A 35-year-old man, Fatai Adeboye, who allegedly robbed a blackberry phone valued at N60,000 at a bus stop, was on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun. Adeboye, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

Police arraign three men over breach of peace
Three men – Safiu Akinde, 19, Sile Akinde,19, and Korede Azeez,21, were on Thursday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun for alleged breach of peace.
Gbesi said that the accused persons and their accomplices conducted themselves in manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the community with cutlasses and axes.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 80(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O.Banwo, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 2 for hearing.

Man docked over theft of N2m
A 26-year-old man, Frank Godwill, who allegedly stole N2 million entrusted in his care, was on Monday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.
He also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
Banwo adjourned the case until July 27, for hearing.

A 40-year-old man, Waris Ojumo, who allegedly damaged a fabricated block moulding machine valued at N500,000 was on Thursday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun.
