    Man arraigned for assaulting woman in Ogun

    A 33-year-old man, Olaniyi Alaba, who allegedly attacked a woman in the night with his accomplices still at large, was on Tuesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Alaba, who lives at No. 15, Adebayo St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of assault and conspiracy.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offences on  July 16 at  9.00.p.m. in Awayewasere area of Ota.

    Gbesi said the accused and others assaulted Mercy Daniel by beating her.

    “They gave her several blows.,” he said.

    The offences contravened Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said the sureties must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and also show evidence of tax payment to Ogun
    Government.

    The case was adjourned to Oct. 9 for hearing.

    Man in court for inflicting injuries with iron rod

    A 40-year-old man, Waris Ojumo, was on Friday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly inflicting injuries on one Success Ajimotokan with iron rod.

    Ojumo who lives at No. 12, Daramola St. Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, is facing a count charge of assault.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 19 at about 4 p. m. at Ijegemo, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused assaulted one Success Ajimotokan by using an iron rod to inflict injuries all over his body.

    He said that the offence contravened Sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted the defendant bail in the of N500, 000 with two sureties each in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until Nov. 28, for hearing.

    Court jails 45-year-old man for stealing motorcycle in Ogun

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, on Monday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ogbodu, to one year in prison for stealing a Bajaj motorcycle valued N150,000.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict any option of fine.

    Ogbodu, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 10 at about 1 a. m. at No. 32 Ajala Close, Temidire, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused stole the motorcycle belonging to one Taiwo Ige, but was caught by a security guard and handed over to the police.

    Gbesi said that the action contravened Section 390(4) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun.

    Court jails man eight months for stealing cement

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ukpe, to eight months imprisonment for stealing 90 bags of cement valued at N229,500.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.

    Ukpe, whose address was not disclosed in the court, had pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offence on July 15 at Onihale, Ota, Ogun.

    Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices stole 90 bags of cement valued at N229, 500 belonging to one Fatoki Sunday.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 426 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun 2006.

    Man docked for collecting N45,000 under pretence

    A 30-year-old man, Ahmed Amoju, who allegedly collected N45,000 under pretence, was on Tuesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

    Amoju, who lives at Iyana-Ilogbo Area, Ota, is facing a one- count charge of obtaining money under pretence.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 28, at about 11.30 a.m. at Abebi, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused collected N45, 000 under the pretext of selling a cow to one Kamorudeen Ojelade, an agreement he failed to fulfil.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    Banwo also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

    The case was adjourned until Sept. 7, for hearing.

    Man jailed three years for theft of church’s drums

    For breaking into a church and stealing a set of drums valued at N75,000, a 44-year-old man, Prosper Onaka, is to spend the next three years in prison, an Ogun court ruled on Monday.

    An Ota Magistrates’ Court ordered that Prosper Onaka should be sent to jail for three years for breaking into a church and stealing a drum set worth N75,000.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, who gave the ruling, did not give the convict an option of fine.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Prosper, whose address is unknown, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of stealing and burglary brought against him.

    Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 11 at 6.30.p.m. at
    Iyana-Iyesi near Ota.

    Gbesi  the accused broke into an Apostolic Church and stole the set of drums valued at N75,000.

    The offences contravened Sections 390 (9) and 415 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    Man arraigned over robbery of N60,000 phone at bus stop

    A 35-year-old man, Fatai Adeboye,  who allegedly robbed a blackberry phone valued at N60,000 at a bus stop, was on Wednesday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun. Adeboye, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.

    Police Prosecutor Chudu Gbesi told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 5 at 2.00 p.m. at Ijoko near Ota.

    Gbesi said the accused robbed the complainant, Hannah Akinwande, of a Blackberry phone valued at N60, 000 at a bus stop in Ijoko.

    “But the accused was caught and handed over to the police,’’ he said.

    The offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun.

    The accused, however, denied the charge.The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of the N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

    He said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also produce evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

    Police arraign three men over breach of peace

    Three men – Safiu Akinde, 19, Sile Akinde,19, and Korede Azeez,21, were on Thursday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court, Ogun for alleged breach of peace.

    The defendants of no fixed addresses are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace.

    The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused persons and others still at large, committed the offences on June 19 at about 8.00 a.m., at Abebi area, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused persons and their accomplices conducted themselves in manner likely to cause breach of peace by threatening the community with cutlasses and axes.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 80(d) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

    The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O.Banwo, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N300,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

    The case was adjourned until Aug. 2 for hearing.

    Man docked over theft of N2m

    A 26-year-old man, Frank Godwill, who allegedly stole N2 million entrusted in his care, was on Monday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun.

    Godwill, who lives at No. 42, Temidire Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence between Jan. 22 and April 24 at Poultry Bus-Stop, Ijako, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused stole N2 million cash entrusted in his care, to assist one Elvis Aken to build a house.

    He said that the offence contravened Section 249(d) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    He also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.

    Banwo adjourned the case until July 27, for hearing.

    Man docked for damaging block moulding machine in Ogun

    A 40-year-old man, Waris Ojumo, who allegedly damaged a fabricated block moulding machine valued at N500,000 was on Thursday charged before an Ota Magistrates Court in Ogun.

    Ojumo, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count change of conspiracy and maliciously damage.

    The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused, and others still at large, committed the offences sometime in November, 2016 at about noon at Isota/Ijegemo Village, Ota.

    Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices conspired to damage a fabricated block moulding machine valued at N500,000 belonging to one Oladele Sarafa.

    He said that the offences contravened Sections 301 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

    The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

    The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

    Banwo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and swear to an affidavit of means.

    He also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment from the Ogun Government.

    The case was adjourned until July 19, for hearing.
