Man docked for attempting to steal in Ogun
A 21-year-old man, Adeleke Tunde, was on Friday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly breaking into a house and attempted to steal.
Tunde, who lives at No. 26, Damola St., Atan, Ota, is facing a two-count of burglary and attempting to steal.The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 7, at about 4.50 p.m. at Akari Estate, Atan, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused was caught by residents in the area breaking into the house of one Funke Oyeneye, with the intention to steal.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 412 and 413 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O.Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo also said that the sureties must reside within the court ‘s jurisdiction and should swear to an affidavit of means.
He said that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment from the Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until July 31, for hearing. -

Man arraigned over manslaughter in Ogun
A 63-year-old driver, Nana Kwaku, who allegedly drove a vehicle in a dangerous manner and killed two persons, was on Friday charged before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Kwaku, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of manslaughter and reckless driving.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 30, at about 10.30 a.m. at Sokoto Road, Atan, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused, being a driver of a Volkswagen Bus with registration number, KJA 528 XQ, drove the vehicle in a dangerous and reckless manner that resulted in the death of two persons, Fracis Age, 35, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 14.
He added that two other persons were still lying critically ill at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the offences contravened Sections 5, 6 (1) and 17 of the Federal Highway Act, Cap. 135, Revised Laws of the Federation, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. I. Adelaja, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
She ruled that the one of the sureties must be a community leader, within the court’s jurisdiction, while the others one should be gainfully employed.
The magistrate said that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until Sept. 6, for hearing.

Man docked over theft of generating set
A 19-year-old man, Ahmed Savage, who allegedly stole a generating set, was on Thursday charged before an Ota Senior Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun.
Savage, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 3 at 2.00 a.m. at Ododonileke CDA, Lafenwa, Ota.
Gbesi said that the accused was caught by residents with a Tiger generator and could not explained how he came about it.
”The generating set was suspected to be stolen item as the accused could not give explanation on how he came about it,” he said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr. S.O Banwo, granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
Banjo said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
He also ordered that the sureties should submit four recent passport photographs to the court and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until July 20 for hearing.

Man docked over theft of cell phone
A 27-year-old man, Femi Olarenwaju, who allegedly stole an Infinity cell phone valued at N36,000 was on Monday charged before an Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun.
Olarenwaju, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 26, 2016 at about 2.00 p. m. at Lafenwa area, Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said the accused stole the cell phone from the complainant, one Idowu Olawale, while he was about to board a commercial bus.
“The accused was seen by a passerby, who apprehended him and handed him over to the police,’’ he said.
Gbesi said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O.Banwo, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said the sureties should reside within the court’s jurisdiction and they should be gainfully employed.
He said the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

Man docked over motorcycle theft
An Ota Senior Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Thursday granted a N150, 000 bails to one Mukaila Afeez, 30, who allegedly stole a motorcycle.
Afeez, whose address is unknown, is facing a count charge.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 15 at 11.40p.m. in Ejibotuntun in Ogun.
Gbesi said that the accused stole the motorcycle with registration number QH 873 AKD, valued at N150, 000, from Mr Mayowa Ishola.
“The accused went to the place where the complainant parked his motorcycle and stole it, but unfortunately for him, he was caught in the act,’’ he said.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, directed that the accused should produce two sureties in like sum also as a condition for his bail.
Banwo ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun State Government.
He adjourned the case until June 29 for substantive hearing.

Man docked for impersonating police officer
A 57-year-old man, Idowu Babatunde, who allegedly impersonated as a police officer, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun.
Gbesi said the accused paraded himself as a police officer, which he knew was false.
“He used the position to harass and defraud innocent people,’’ he said.
The offence contravened Section 486 of the Criminal Code, Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted him bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until June 28 for mention.

Police arraign five men over breach of peace in Ogun
The Police in Ogun, on Thursday arraigned five men in an Ota Magistrates’ Court for alleged breach of peace.
The accused, Tunde Efunkoya, 42, Bamidele Ishola, 50, Joshua Jimoh, 33, Akinola Akinkoya, 29 and Usman Kabiru, 32, whose addresses were unknown, are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on May 7, at about 1.30p.m. at Efunkoya Street, Ewepe, Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices conspired to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by violently launching an attack on Igbehinadun Community.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 249(d) and 416 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O.Banwo, granted bail to each of the accused in the sum of N80,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
Banwo also said that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court with evidence of tax payment from Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned till June 28, for hearing.

Man docked for tricycle theft
A 20-year-old man, Friday Ogbu, who allegedly stole a tricycle valued at N520,000 was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Ogbu, with an unknown address is facing a two-count charge of stealing and conspiracy.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Chudu Gbesi, told the court that the accused and others still at large, committed the offences on May 2, at 6a.m. at Anisere-Ipamesun, Ota, Ogun.
Gbesi said that the accused and his accomplices conspired to steal a tricycle with registration number MEK 058 TVS valued at N520, 000 belonging to one Mohammed Sanni.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S. O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N150, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed.
Banwo also ordered that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court with an evidence of tax payment from Ogun Government.

Woman docked for threat to life
A 67-year-old woman, Yinka Komolafe, who allegedly threatened to attack two men with some dangerous weapons with others still on the run, was on Thursday brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.
Komolafe, who resides at No. 26, Oresanya St., Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a two-count charge of threat to life and conspiracy.
Police Sgt. Chudu Gbesi told the court that the woman with others still at large committed the offences on Nov. 25, 2016 at about 1.30 p.m. in Ota.
According to the prosecutor, the accused conspired with others to threaten Adumaza Raphael and Augustine Amaechi with some dangerous weapons.
The offences contravened Sections 323 and 516 of Criminal Code, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The woman, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr S.O. Banwo, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Banwo said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should also be gainfully employed.
In addition, the sureties should provide an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
The case was adjourned until June 22 for hearing.
