  • FRSC assures Ogun residents of safer road

    The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ) has assured the people of Ogun of its commitment to ensure safer roads to reduce carnage to the barest minimum.

    Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander in the state, gave the assurance while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ota on Thursday.

    He said that the command had intensified efforts in its public enlightenment campaign and insisting that motorists comply with traffic rules and regulations.

    The sector commander said at least, 820 traffic offenders were apprehended for various offences during the 2018 Eld-El-Kabir celebrations in the state.

    Oladele said the figure was more than 480 traffic offenders apprehended during the same celebration in 2017.

    “The offenders were arrested for various offences like seat belt violation, tyre violations and failure to install speed limiting device.” he said.

    Oladele also explained that FRSC personnel were able to rescue 39 accident victims from 24 crashes, so far this year, compared to 25 rescued from five crashes in 2017.

    He, however, said that FRSC was able to rescue more accidents victims through special patrol put in place between Aug. 17 to Aug. 26 during the 2018 Eid-el Kabir festival.

  • FRSC warns against reckless driving

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has advised motorists to drive with care on roads undergoing rehabilitation to avoid accidents and unnecessary loss of lives.

    Mr Clement Oladele, the FRSC Sector Commander, Ogun Command, gave the advice in an interview with the our reporters on Monday in Ota, Ogun.

    Oladele explained that ongoing rehabilitation of roads in different parts of the country had led to increased activities of construction workers and heavy duty trucks on those highways.

    He listed some of the roads undergoing rehabilitation in parts of Ogun to include: Lagos – Ibadan expressway, Sagamu -Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta – Ibadan and Abeokuta -Ota – Lagos, Fidiwo, Ajebo/Alapako roads.

    According to him, on account of these construction and rehabilitation works, motorists are advised to maintain speed limits and should be extra vigilant, particularly where there are diversions and vehicles have to face oncoming traffic.

    “Motorists are enjoined to drive cautiously and avoid overtaking to prevent possible collision with vehicles travelling in opposite directions.

    “We also implore motorists to obey the maximum speed limits stipulated on the roads signs along the corridor,” he said.

    The sector commander also advised motorists to obey traffic regulations and follow instructions from FRSC patrol teams and other traffic agencies.

  • FRSC warns motorists against use of unauthorised number plates

    The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ), Ogun Command, has warned leadership of political parties to prevail on their supporters to get their campaign vehicles properly licensed and registered.

    Mr Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander, FRSC, gave this warning in a statement made available to the News men on Wednesday in Ota.

    The sector commander warned motorists against indiscriminate use of unauthorised vehicle number plates.

    Oladele said FRSC had noticed a new trend in the state where motorists engage in indiscriminate use of unauthorised vehicle number plates, in addition to violating traffic rules and regulations.

    According to him, the practice poses serious threat to national security. “We enjoin the leadership of political parties to prevail on their supporters to get campaign their vehicles properly licensed and registered.

    “The vehicles must also be driven in line with extant traffic regulations.

    “We also appeal to them to desist from overloading as well as engage in dangerous driving,’’ the sector commander said.

    Oladele, however, implored motorists to process original copies of their driving licenses from the appropriate channels as the commission would not treat cases of invalid licenses lightly.

    He said the FRSC patrol team would start to arrest any vehicle with photocopied driving license and vehicles without appropriate vehicle number plates.

    “Those traffic offenders will be prosecuted in pursuant to Sections 10( 2 )( d ) and 10( 4 )( F ) of the FRSC Establishment Act 2007,” he said.

    Oladele, therefore, admonished motorists to adhere strictly to the directive in order not to face full wrath of the laws.

  • FRSC advises passengers to caution reckless drivers

    The Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ) has advised passengers to always caution reckless drivers in order to reduce road crashes in the country.

    The Sector Commander, Mr Clement Oladele, gave the advice in an interview withour correspondent in Ota on Sunday.

    Oladele spoke against the backdrop of the accident that claimed 12 lives while five people sustained various degrees of injury at Fidiwo, on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

    One of the victims died immediately after arriving at the hospital, making the number of deaths to 13.

    “The accident that led to a head on collision between Volvo Truck and Ford Transit Bus could have been averted if the passengers in the bus had cautioned the driver,” he said.

     He explained that the bus was earlier  flagged down for speeding by FRSC patrol team that noticed the speed of the vehicle,  but the driver ignored the flag-down order.

    The sector commander further said that the driver even abused the patrol team with the use of his hand.

    “Unfortunately, barely driving five minutes from the FRSC Patrol team that cautioned him for speeding, the bus  collided with the truck traveling from the opposite direction,” he said.

    Oladele, therefore, implored passengers to caution drivers with reckless driving habits and wrongful overtaking tendencies to the appropriate channels so as to safe lives and property.

    He also admonished motorists traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan corridor to continue to obey the no overtaking and maximum speed limit of 50 kilometres per hour at the construction site of the road.

  • Road accidents claim 60 in Ogun within 2 months

    The Federal Road Safety Commission  (FRSC) in Ogun said on Thursday that 60 persons died while  several others were  injured in various auto crashes in  the state between January and February.

    The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr Clement Oladele, made the disclosure in an interview with our reporter in Abeokuta.

    Oladele stated that 74 crashes were recorded in the state during the period, adding that 340 persons were injured in the incidents.

    The sector commander said that 33 persons lost their lives in January road traffic crashes while 27 died in February.

    ” A total of 112 persons were injured in the various accidents in January while 128 were injured in February,” he added.

    According to the sector commander, a greater percentage of the accidents were due to loss of control, wrongful overtaking, excessive speed  and usage of mobile phones.

    He urged motorists to obey stipulated traffic rules and regulations as well as refrain from  over speeding  and wrongful overtaking.

    “When overtaking, ask yourself this question: Is it safe?

    “Also important, motorists should always observe caution signs at any construction site,  ” he said.

    He added that the FRSC was doing its best to ensure that it reduces rate of crashes to the barest minimum.

    Oladele also pledged that the commission would continue to intensify efforts  at sensitizing motorists  on safe driving and the  risks associated with not  obeying traffic rules and regulations.

    Truck crushes man to death in Ogun

    One person was confirmed dead in an accident involving a Volvo truck and a Toyota car at Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta on Tuesday.

    Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

    Oladele said that the accident, which happened at about 12pm, was caused by the truck which  had brake  failure.

    The sector commander, who noted that six persons were involved in the accident, disclosed that the driver of the car died in the accident.

    “The accident involved a Volvo truck with registration number AAB 207 AA and a Toyota car with registration number SMK 152 XR.

    “The truck, which was on top speed, lost control and rammed into the waiting car at the traffic light in Iyana Mortuary.

    “Six persons were involved in the accident; the driver of the car died while two others sustained injuries,” he said.

    The FRSC boss said that the injured persons had been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta while the corpse of the victim was deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

    FRSC in Ogun takes safety campaign to schools

    The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ), Ogun Sector Command, on Wednesday said it had taken its campaign to schools in the state to educate the pupils/students on safety issues.

    Mr Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, said that the measure was part of the command’s programmes to ensure safety on the roads in the future.

    Oladele said that the measure would also help to prepare the pupils/students early enough as the next generation of drivers in the country.

    He said that the FRSC would lay emphasis on youth education and truck safety in 2018 to reduce crashes on the country.

    “The FRSC has commenced preaching of safety across schools and organisimg programmes for truck drivers to ensure sanity and protection of lives and property on the highways,’’ he said.

    The sector commander said that some truck drivers drove recklessly on the highways and in most cases such drivers did not belong to unions.

    He, however, said that the FRSC had been in contact with truck owners to see how the challenge could be addressed.

    “We want to see how we can organise those drivers without a union to form one so that their excesses and tension created by them could be reduced.’’

    Oladele also noted that nobody could function effectively if the person were not properly trained.

    He said that the FRSC had certified members of staff that were competent to train truck drivers.

    FRSC advises motorists to register their vehicles

    The Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ) has advised motorists to ensure proper registration of their vehicles to enhance identification in case of emergency.

    Mr Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of the corps, gave the advice in Abeokuta on Friday during the handing over of a missing vehicle number plate to the owner.

    Oladele said that the owner of the number plate was tracked through the FRSC’s National Vehicle Identification Scheme Data Base.

    “A driver who had picked a fallen vehicle rear bumper with a number plate attached, contacted the FRSC Command in Ogun State on possibility of locating and returning same to the rightful owner.

    “After a search on the national vehicle identification scheme, the owner of the vehicle was contacted on phone and he confirmed the loss from his vehicle.

    “After due diligence and all security checks, the recovered number plate was handed over to the rightful owner.

    “It is important to highlight that it is in the interest of motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered, ‘’ he said.

    Oladele advised motorists to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations and follow instructions by the FRSC patrol teams and other traffic agencies.

  • Four killed in Ogun auto crash

    At least four persons died on Wednesday  along the Ijebu – Ode stretch of the Lagos – Ore Expressway when a commercial bus collided with a trailer.

    The accident which occurred at 4:45 a.m. near the Ijebu Ode old Toll Gate involved a truck with registration number XB 111 LSD and a bus marked LSD 766 XS.

    It was learnt that the truck which had earlier packed attempted to rejoin the road and while trying to avoid collision with another vehicle swerved into the fast lane, but a speeding bus rammed into the second truck from behind.

    The Ogun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Clement Oladele, who confirmed the accident, said four passengers of the bus died in the crash.

    “The crash is suspected to have been caused by loss of control when a truck which had earlier parked suddenly attempted to join the road corridor near the Ijebu – Ode Toll gate.

    “A Mack truck moving in the same direction, in an attempt to avoid collision with the truck entering the road, swerved away from the slow lane to the fast lane.

    “The bus travelling behind on the fast lane was too fast and could not stop but ran into the truck that swerved from slow to the fast lane.

    “The crash resulted in the death of four passengers in the bus,’’ Oladele said.

    Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Road accident claims four

    Four persons were feared dead in an accident involving a Ford bus and a Mack trailer on Wednesday morning on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.

    Mr. Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC ), confirmed the figure to newsmen in Abeokuta.

    Oladele said that the accident happened at 4:45 a.m., near the Ijebu Ode Toll Gate.

    The sector commander said that the accident was caused by loss of control by the driver of the black truck with registration number XB 111 LSD.

    According to him, the loss of control led to a collision of the truck with the white bus marked LSD 766 XS.

    “The accident occurred at about 4:45a.m. near Ijebu Ode Toll Gate, leading to the death of four people trapped in the bus conveying passengers and woods.

    “The crash is suspected to have been caused by loss of control, when a truck which had earlier parked, suddenly attempted to join the road corridor.

    “A Mack truck moving in the same direction, in an attempt to avoid colliding with the truck entering the road, swerved away from the slow lane to the fast lane.

    Oladele said that the corpses of the victims had been taken to the Ijebu Ode General Hospital Mortuary, adding that obstructions at the accident scene had been cleared.

    He urged motorists to drive cautiously and obey all traffic rules and regulations.

    The sector commander also advised motorists to avoid joining a road corridor suddenly or interfering with moving traffic.
