    Cobhams Asuquo reinforces charity at 35

    Having clocked 35 on January 6, 2016, notable Nigerian music producer, Cobhams Asuquo, has deployed his passion for developing young talents as a way of giving back to society.

    To this end, the music guru says he is working on a project that will give a platform to artistes who want to create organic music.

    Recall that the talented artiste overcame disability, and a disadvantaged background to become one of Nigeria’s ace music producers.

    Asuquo has an intimidating list of awards to his credit, including, the Future Awards Producer of the Year (2006 and 2009, Hip-hop World Awards Producer of the Year (2007 and 2008),Nigeria Music Awards (NMA) 2007 Producer of the decade, Nigerian Music Awards (NMA) 2008 for “Producer of the Decade”, LEAP Africa Award 2007 for his “Creativity, Fortitude and Exemplary Leadership In the Music Industry” ,The Partnership Awards 2008 for “supporting the Worship For Change Concert”, One Gospel Awards for “Gospel Composer/ Writer of the Year” (2008).

    The philanthropic person, Asuquo has his hand in a lot of pies with respect to giving back to society, and has over the years invested in quite a number of charities which range from the Niger Wives Rehabilitation Center to Nigerian Welfare Association for the Blind, and Food for All among others.

    Timi Dakolo records new songs with Cobhams Asuquo

    A few weeks after he jetted to the U.S., where he recorded some songs for his forthcoming album titled Love and Consequences, award-winning singer, Timi Dakolo, has reportedly returned to the country.

    He was said to have teamed up with talented producer, Cobhams Asuquo, at 226 Recordings in Houston Texas, USA.

    Following his critically acclaimed 2011 debut album, Beautiful Noise, Dakolo has dominated the airwaves lately with the release of his hit single, Iyawo Mi, as well as its video featuring his wife, Busola.

    “We’ve been having a blast here with Cobhams. I like to pay attention to my work and to my craft, so as to ensure that those who believe in me get the highest quality music that I can give. I am excited about what we are coming up with here. Love & Consequences album is a story of hope and survival. Fans expect to be stirred and to be enriched. I look forward to them identifying with the messages I want to share,” an excited Dakolo said.

    The new album, he further revealed, will be released in the first quarter of 2015.

    The crowd went boisterous, at the popular Thisday Dome Arena, Abuja, as Emmanuel Daniel, a 22-year-old visually-impaired boy was declared winner of a gospel music competition tagged The Gospel Voice Abuja 2014.

    The competition was stiff, and Daniel, despite his disability slugged it out with other contestants, by producing amazing voice and stagecraft that culminated in his victory.

    He could not see anyone, but he acknowledged the cheers, beaming with smiles as organisers announced his prize of N4 million worth of recording contract and a brand new Hyundai car.

    Daniel, who hails from Niger State, defeated close rivals, Faith and Sanmi who took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

    The victory of E Daniels, as he is otherwise called, appeared satisfactory to many, as the judges including Paul Play Dairo, Solomon Lange, Frank Edwards and Namure (Asst. Head of Program AIT) also gave the winner an obvious nod.

    Veteran music producer, VC Perez, who is one of the organisers described the winner as another ‘Cobhams Asuquo’ of the Nigerian music industry, while thanking God for the success of the competition.

    “In fact, God has been so wonderful from the beginning to this end and the fact that another Cobhams is detected tonight is also God’s doing. I must tell that the winner Emmanuel is in the class of elite already. His music skills are exceptional in one word,” he said.

    According to him, Daniel did not win the competition out of pity. “He was a clear winner,” he said, adding that the young man has been endorsed by gospel music superstars such as Frank Edwards, Solomon Lange and Nosa to become the next jewel in the music industry.

    The competition also had other categories, including Best Group, won by The Identity, and Best Choir, won by TTMI Choir.

    Interestingly, the 10 finalist from the main category, won by Daniel have come together for an amazing theme song titled Winner, which they said is dedicated to the fans. The song is produced by Perez.

    D’banj launches The Year of Agriculture at AU summit

    NIGERIA’S sensational pop star, D’banj, made history within the week, as he joined other eminent personalities across the world to launch The Year of Agriculture at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

    The historic event held between Friday, January 24 and Friday, January 31.

    The wave-making artiste launched the official name and logo of the campaign as well as ONE’s online petition, while calling on leaders to invest more in agriculture.

    D’banj, who was announced at a press briefing in Lagos during the week as the face of the campaign, will also lead top artistes from around the continent to record a song that will be produced by Cobhams.

    He will also feature in a music video aimed at promoting agriculture among the youths on the continent.

    “I look forward to this project. The fact that I will be working with some of Africa’s biggest stars is fantastic,” Cobhams Asuquo said during the press conference.

    D’banj joined other African leaders and farming businessmen, including former president Olusegun Obasanjo, to launch the Year of Agriculture at the AU Summit.

    It will be recalled that Dbanj recently shared a picture of himself in a cocoa farm in Ghana, a situation that has further confirmed his huge investment in farming.

    Cobhams marks birthday in style

    Cobhams Asuquo, a celebrated Nigerian producer and musician, marked his 33rd birthday on Sunday in style.

    Asuquo and his wife treated their guests, who are largely big names in the entertainment industry, to a dinner at the upscale Primi Piatti in Lekki, Lagos.

    Among the top celebrities who honoured his invitation are Banky W., Waje, Omawumi, Timi Dakolo, Tosin Martins, Toolz, Oscar Oyinsan, Tosyn Bucknor, Buki Izeogu, Schulzz, Wana Udobang and others.

    While giving his toast, Asuquo thanked his guests for being part of his celebration, promising the best in his career in the New Year.

    He had released a single on the New Year’s Eve entitled: Ordinary People.

    The song, which is currently circulating online, is a testament to the latent power of the ordinary man.

    In the song, he calls everyone to do his or her best in the daily journey of life.

    “We are all ordinary people with ordinary desires, demands, strengths and expectations. But we are all capable of doing extra-ordinary things,” he said.

    Asuquo is a Nigerian-born musician with an enviable track record in music production, writing and singing.

    Asuquo, who was previously signed to Sony/ATV UK publishing as a songwriter, is the CEO of CAMP, a music label and production company that serves as a home to Bez and Stan Iyke.

    He has done some production works for numerous notable Christian and secular artistes in the past 12 years.

    Having been a music producer for some years, Cobhams started out as a musician in 2011 when he put some of his most loved songs into an inspiring and contemporary Christian album.

    The first single on the album is titled Ordinary People.

    RENOWNED music producer and singer, Cobhams Asuquo, was one of the few celebrities who threw their doors open for their friends, colleagues and loved ones recently, as they marked their birthday.

    On Monday, the top Nigerian music producer received a deluge of loving words from fans, well wishers and fans via his twitter page.

    In appreciation of the kind gesture, he replied: “To everyone that sent out a birthday message. Spoken words cannot express my gratitude! I am truly thankful for you all!”

    Cobhams, who recently released a brand new single titled Ordinary People, said, “We are all ordinary people with ordinary desires, demands, strengths and expectations. But we are all capable of doing extra-ordinary things.” Cobhams has been able to make an enviable track record in music production, song-writing, and singing since he started his career.
