  • Buhari sends names of RMAFC chairman, commissioners to Senate for confirmation

    President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, the names of 30 nominees as Chairman and Commissioners of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

    A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the President, Garba Shehu, said that it was in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

    He said, that, the names were conveyed in a letter signed by the President to the Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, which asked for expeditious consideration and confirmation of the appointments.

    The nominees include Elias Mbam as Chairman while the commissioners are Chris Alozie Akomas, Ayang Sunday Okon, Chima Philip Okafor, Prof. Isa B. Mohammed, Samuel Adaa Maagbe, Ntufam Eyo Nsa Whiley.

    Others members are Andrew Ogheneovo Agbaga, Patrick Nworu Mgbebu, Victor Eboigbe, Amujo Philip Ajayi, Maria Chinyere Aniobi, Musa Tanko Abari, Mohammed Kabeer Usman.

    Also in the list are Alhaji Ahmed Mahmoud Gumel, Kabir Muhammad Mashi, Umar Farouk Abdullahi, Rilwan Hussein Abarshi, Suleiman Kokori Abdul, Abdullahi Shuaibu Yaman, Wright Olusegun Adekunle, Aliyu A. Abdulkadir, Ibrahim Bako Bagudu Shettima, Fari Adebayo, Tokunbo Ajasin.

    Other Commissioners are Kolade Daniel Abimbola, Alexander Shaiyen, Wenah Asondu Temple, Alhaji Modu Aji Juluri, and Abubakar Sadiq Gusau.

  • Ebonyi gets two new ministries, commissioners

    Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi has created two ministries and appointed commissioners for them.

    The governor split one ministry and merged the Department of Internal Security with the Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution.

    A statement yesterday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor, said the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey was split with two commissioners.

    The statement reads: “Sunday Inyima is moved from the Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution to Housing and Urban Development. Prof. John Eke moves from Lands, Housing and Survey to the Ministry of Lands and Survey.”

    “The Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Internal Security (SSA-IS) and Ministry of Border Peace and Conflict Resolution are abolished. Consequently, a Ministry of Internal Security and Border Peace has been created. Kenneth Ugballa, who was in charge of Internal Security, has been nominated a commissioner and will be in charge of the office pending his screening and possible confirmation by the Assembly.

    “Deputy Governor Eric Kelechi Igwe will supervise the exercise. All handover and taking over processes must be completed on or before, January 14.”

    Obiano sacks commissioners, aides

    Ahead of his second tenure inauguration on March 17, Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has sacked his commissioners and political appointees.

    The sack letter was signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu. The letter was titled: “Submission of hand over notes by political appointees and non-civil servant heads of MDAs in the state”

    The letter reads: “Governor Willie Obiano has directed that all political appointees and non-civil Servant Heads of MDAs submit their hand over notes, reports on or before March 16, to the permanent secretaries of their respective MDAs, or to the most senior Civil Servant there in the absence of a permanent secretary.

    “All SSAs/SAs are to submit their hand over notes/reports to the permanent secretary of office of the SSG.

    “A copy of the hand over note/report must be submitted to the Secretary to the State Government on or before March 16.

    “Further to the above, political appointees and non-civil servant heads of MDAs and SSAs/SAs under reference are to hand over any government project/utility vehicles in their custody to the permanent secretary, office of the Secretary to the State Government, on or before March 16.

    “The contents of this letter are for your attention and necessary actions, even as I assure you of my high regards.”

    2019: Dickson appoints five commissioners from Jonathan’s council

    Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has increased the number of commissioners in his cabinet from Ogbia, former President Goodluck Jonathan’s Local Government Area, to five.

    Among the five nominees sworn-in yesterday by Dickson is Faith Opuene, who hails from Ogbia.

    Other nominees sworn in are Ebipatei Apaingolo and Funkazi Koroye-Crooks.

    They were all admitted to the cabinet yesterday.

    Other commissioners from Ogbia serving in Dickson’s cabinet are: Daniel Iworiso-Markson (Information and Orientation); Chief Saviour Ibegi(Chieftaincy and Community Development); Chief Fred Obua (Special Projects) and Chief Jim Ogbolo (Power).

    Inaugurating the new commissioners, Dickson assigned Mrs. Funkazi Koroye-Crooks to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Investment.

    The governor also said that the Ministry of Women and Social Development had been split into the Ministry of Women Development and the Ministry of Empowerment and Social Welfare.

    He said the Opene would be in charge of either of the two ministries, adding that a portfolio would later be assigned to Gabriel Apaingolo.

    He governor further inaugurated Prof. Rose Ezonbodor-Akwagbe as Special Adviser on Maternal and Neo-Natal Welfare.

    Iworiso-Markson commended Dickson for? appointing more Ogbia sons and daughters into his cabinet.

    He said the development was a demonstration of Dickson’s undiluted love for people of Jonathan’s local government.

    He appreciated the governor for the gesture, saying it further affirmed his commitment to the development of Ogbia as a whole.

    Iworiso-Markson further assured the governor that Ogbia would reciprocate the gesture by showing support and loyalty to the government.

  • Abubakar warns commissioners against corruption

    Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar has warned new commissioners against corruption.

    He said anyone caught stealing state funds would not be spared.

    Among those sworn-in is the Attorney-General and Commission Mr. Haruna  Mohammed.

    The governor urged them to exhibit exemplary leadership and diligence in running state’s affairs.

    Abubakar said the appointees got the job on merit, adding they must be fair to all irrespective of tribe, religion or political leanings.

    He warned them against indolence and the temptation to embezzle public funds, saying that anyone caught would face the full wrath of the law.

    He also advised them to be prudent in the management of limited resources.

    The other commissioners include Rifkatu Samson (Environment), Rukaiya  Kewa (Women Affairs and Child Development),  Umar Sade (Information),  Ibrahim Sale (Social Welfare and Sports), Yakubu Kirfi (Agriculture) and Mohammed Abubakar (Rural and Community Development).

    Others are Nasiru Giade (Co-operatives), Muhammadu Bashir (Power, Science and Technology), Umar Mohammed (Housing, Land and Survey), Umar Gazali (Commerce and Industry), Garba Akuyum (Finance) and Ado Aska (Religious Affairs).

    The rest are Nasirudeen Mohammed (Local Government),  Zuwaira Ibrahim (Health), Ibrahim Suleiman (Water Resources), Haruna Danwanka (Education) and Musa Baima (Solid Minerals).

    Abubakar  also inaugurated a committee chaired by retired Justice Dahiru Saleh review the issue of additional District, Village and Hamlet Areas in view of their dissolution by the State House of Assembly in 2015.

    Its terms of reference include to recommend the number of districts to be created or reinstated, to demarcate and delineate boundaries of both the old and the new district and village areas, to identify constituent village areas, among others.

  • Bauchi gets 19 commissioners

    Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar yesterday swore-in 19 new commissioners.

    He urged them to observe equity and fairness as Bauchi people would be watching their conducts.

    The ceremony was witnessed by top security operatives in the state, clerics, traditional rulers and politicians among others.

    The governor advised the commissioners to add value to government and deliver dividends of democracy and remain accountable.

    Abubakar had in July 2017 sacked his commissioner.

    Among those sworn-in are Rukaya Ibrahim Kewa (Women Affairs), Haruna Deke Mohammed (Min.of Justice) Rifkatu Samson Dana (Environment) Umar Ibrahim Sade (Information & Culture, Tourism), Muhammed Sani Bashir (Power and Science) and Magaji Abubakar Dambam (Budget & Economic Planning).

    Others are Umar Ibrahim Mohammed (Housing), Abubakar Gazali (Commerce), Babagida Nasiru Giade (Cooperatives), Ibrahim Madaki Saleh (Youth & Sports), Mohammed Mahmoud Abubakar (Rural & Community Dev.) Yakubu Kirfi (Agriculture), Ado Aska Zigau (Religious Affairs).

    Also in the new executive are Garba Mohammed Akuyam (Finance),Prof. Haruna Abdullahi Dan Wanka (Education), Nasirudeen Mohammed (Local Govt.) Zuwaira Hassan Ibrahim (Health), Musa Kaila Baima (Solid Minerals) and Ibrahim Ayuba Suleiman(Water Resources).

    Deputy Governor Nuhu Gidado, hitherto Commissioner for Education, has been re-assigned to oversee the affairs of Ministry of Works and Transport.

    Assembly clears commissioners, others

    Lagos State House of Assembly yesterday cleared those nominated as commissioners and special adviser by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

    The commissioners-designate are: Alhaji Hakeem Fahm  (Science and Technology), Ladi Lawanson – Transportation, Segun Banjo – Economic Planning and Budget and Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye – Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives.

    Suleiman Hakeem is  Special Adviser on Community and Communications; former  table tennis star, Mrs Toyin Okenla-Ojeaga is a member of Lagos State Sports Commission Governing Board.

    The screening was a formality. Speaker Mudashiru Obasa said before the exercise that the nominees should just show their faces and introduce themselves.

    Apart from Mrs Okenla-Ojeaga, who was asked a few questions, others were not grilled. They just introduced themselves, the schools they attended, their marital status and their working experience and left.

    Also, the House took the third readings of the following bills and passed them into laws :  Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, Lagos State Teaching Service Commission Law and Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission (LAHASCOM) Law.

    The amended LAHASCOM  law raises  the  number of Deputy Clerk to four – Deputy Clerk, Legislative, Deputy Clerk, Legislative Drafting, Deputy Clerk, Publication and Public Affairs, Deputy Clerk, Human Resource and Account.

    Ambode drops three commissioners

    LAGOS State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday dropped three commissioners and appointed five new ones in a surprise reshuffle of his executive council (EXCO).

    Some commissioners were also moved in the exercise announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tunji Bello.

    Those dropped are Mrs. Adebimpe Akinsola, Mr. Femi Odubiyi and Mr. Abiola Anifowoshe.

    United States-based Information Technology expert Hakeem Fahm was tipped for the Science and Technology ministry. Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye is returning to the cabinet having served former Governor Babatunde Fashola as Education Commissioner in his second term. She is pencilled down for   Commerce and Industry.

    Others are Mr. Ladi Lawanson – Transportation, Mr Segun Banjo – Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Hakeem Sulaiman – Communities and Communications.

    Those moved are Rotimi Ogunleye  (Commerce and Industry) to Physical Planning and Urban Development; Steve Ayorinde  (Information and Strategy) to Tourism, Arts and Culture, Kehinde Bamigbetan  (Communities and Communication) to Information and Strategy; Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti  (Wealth Creation) to the Environment; Mrs. Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf (Youth and Social Development) to Wealth Creation; Agboola Dabiri,  Central Business District (CBD) to Youth and Social Development.

    Dr Samuel Adejare  (Environment) to Waterfront Infrastructure Development; Ade Akinsanya  (Waterfront Infrastructure Development) to Works and Infrastructure.

    The statement added that Special Advisers Benjamin Olabinjo moved from Commerce and Industry to Civic Engagement; Kehinde Joseph, Civic Engagement to Housing; Deji Tinubu,  Sports to Commerce and Industry and Anofiu Elegushi,  Transport to CBD.

    According to Bello, the exercise is expected to create a new vigour and vitality for service delivery which is the hallmark of the Ambode  administration.

    Kebbi swears in two new commissioners

    Two new commissioners on Wednesday took their oath of allegiance and office as members of Kebbi State Executive Council.

    They are Prof. Mukhtar Bala and Hajiya Tsahara Bawa, who are yet to be assigned portfolios.

    The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Samaila Rashid administered the oaths on behalf of the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Asabe Karatu.

    Speaking after the swearing in, Gov. Atiku Bagudu thanked the House of Assembly for the speedy confirmation of the nominees.

    “We now have three female commissioners in the cabinet, I think this is the highest in the country.”

    He urged the commissioners to prepare for the challenges ahead, saying electioneering would dominate the year.

    “There is no doubt that this year will be full of electioneering but we should not be distracted by the campaigns in our quest to make life better for our people, ” Bagudu said.
