    Beyonce congratulates Kim, Kanye West

    Superstar singer Beyonce has congratulated sensational Kanye and Kim West, who got married at the weekend.

    The pop singer posted a photo of the family with the caption: “Wishing you a lifetime of unconditional love. God bless your beautiful family.”

    Beyonce and Jay-Z had been rumoured to be invited as guests at the wedding, with Jay-Z acting as West’s best man. However, the couple was reported to be at Hamptons, instead of Fort di Belvedere in Florence, Italy, venue of the wedding.

    According to reports, there was applause when the couple kissed each other and when they were presented to the guests on the occasion.

    Kanye and Kim started dating in 2012 when they appeared together at the Paris Fashion Week.

    In 2013, Kanye proposed after an elaborate ceremony inside San Francisco’s AT&T Park. This is Kanye’s first marriage, but Kim’s third.

    Kim told Oprah Winfrey in an interview in 2012 that she didn’t know what took them so long to be a couple.

    In December, 2012, Kim announced via her blog that she was pregnant with West’s child. She was eventually delivered of a baby girl in June, 2013.

    The Nigeria Olympic Committee ((NOC) has congratulated the newly-appointed Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission, Dr. Tamuno Danagogo.

    Danagogo, a lawyer, PHD holder, was sworn into office Wednesday by President Goodluck Jonathan to replace Bolaji Abdullahi.

    Speaking about the new Minister, who hails from Rivers State, President of NOC, Sani M. Ndanusa welcomed him to his new office and prayed that the recent string of successes recorded in Nigerian sports scene continues, and even blossoms, during Danagogo’s reign.

    “It is my special pleasure to, on behalf of the entire Nigeria Olympic family, congratulate you on your fresh appointment and wish you immense success in the discharge of your duties as the Minister of Sports and Chairman, National Sports Commission.

    “Our sports have been experiencing a rebirth in the last three years and we pray that it continues and gets better during your tenure”, said Ndanusa, who added that he was sure that the new minister will take Nigerian sports to the next level given his pedigree as Local Government boss, where he spearheaded grassroots sports development in River States.

    “Reading from your rich C.V. I believe that our sports will improve because of your love for grassroots sports development, which is the cradle of sports development. I believe that if we get it right at the grassroots level that our sports will witness an unprecedented boom in terms of positive results”, said Ndanusa.

    He added that the NOC was looking forward to having a seamless and cordial working relationship with the NSC Chairman, who he admonished to follow through with the transformational agenda of President Jonathan.

    Ekiti State governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has congratulated President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone as he is sworn in for a second term in office in Freetown on Friday.

    Fayemi, who was among world leaders that graced the colourful inauguration ceremony in Freetown, said Koroma’s re-election for a second term in office was a demonstration of the confidence the people of Sierra Leone repose in him, following his sterling performance during his first term.

    The governor, in a letter he personally delivered to President Koroma at the ceremony, said that the remarkable growth in the economy of Sierra Leone and the consolidation of peace, are parts of the significant achievements that endeared the new President to the vast majority of Sierra Leonean citizens.

    “It is noteworthy that your visionary and result-driven leadership through the instrumentality of your administration’s “Agenda for Change”, has brought about veritable improvement in the provision of reliable power to the country; raising quantity and value-added productivity in agriculture and fisheries-which is critical to poverty reduction; developing a national transportation network to enable the movement of goods and people and thereby facilitate increased investment and economic activity; and ensuring sustainable human development through the provision of improved social services.” Fayemi wrote.

    “You have proven that there is indeed a linkage between good governance and peace”, he stated, adding; “As my dear friend and comrade, whilst I assure you of my continued support and cooperation during your tenure, I look forward to working with you to progress in concrete terms a mutually beneficial relationship between the peoples of Ekiti State, Nigeria and the Republic of Sierra Leone.”

    Namibia congratulates Nigeria

    The Government of the Republic of Namibia has congratulated Nigeria on the victory of the Super Eagles on the 2013 Nations’ Cup held in South Africa.

    In a letter to the Minister of Sports and Chairman of National Sports Commission, Bolaji Abdullahi dated 14th February, 2013 the Namibian High Commissioner in Nigeria His Excellency Selma Ashipala-Musauyi said the achievement was commendable and a source of pride for home grown success.

    He said that the improvement the Super Eagles consistently made overtime proved that hard work is the real key to success, adding that the victory is a remarkable accomplishment to kick-start Nigeria’s Centenary celebrations.

    The High Commissioner concluded that that the electrifying effect of the victory on Nigerians is a reminder of the real potentials of sport, especially football talents that exist in the African soil.

    PDP congratulates opposition parties on merger

    The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially reacted to the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by rival political parties as the opposition platform, saying it remains unshaken.

    Its National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, who congratulated the collaborating parties for what he called their successful merger and formation of the APC, described the development would deepen democracy.

    Metuh, whose reaction was contained in a statement, said with the formation of the APC, the PDP and indeed Nigerians expect to see robust debates on the economy and other issues of governance in the general interest of the country.

    The statement reads: “We congratulate the opposition for their successful merger and the formation of the All Progressive Congress. This is yet another victory for our democracy.

    “It shows that our democracy has come of age. We hope that from now, we will see robust debates on the economy and other issues of governance.”

    The party charged the opposition to use the vehicle of their new party to challenge elected and appointed officers under the PDP to debates on government projects and achievements, noting the Nigerians will be the utmost beneficiaries at the end of the day.

    It said the ruling party will be ready at anytime for talks on any issue pertaining to the economy questions to move the nation forward.

    The PDP said: “We charge the opposition to use the new party to challenge our elected and appointed officers on debates on issues of governance.

    “We are ready, willing and able at any time to debate on any issue pertaining to the economy and any other issue of governance. We want useful and constructive debates so that at the end of the day, Nigerians will be the utmost beneficiaries.”

    Metuh, however, said the PDP, being the ruling party with a commitment to stability and development will not dwell on the shortcomings of the merger arrangement but rather focus on the welfare of the people.

    He said the PDP will continue to be truly democratic and retain its status as the party to beat in future elections.

    Nigeria and Everton forward Victor Anichebe has taken to the social media to congratulate his Nigerian teammate for progressing into the final stage of the ongoing 2013 africa Cup of Nation.

    The super Eagles defeated the Eagles of Mali 4-1 courtesy the first half goals from Elderson Echiejile, Brown Ideye and Emmanuel Emenike, and one from Ahmed Musa in the second half.

    He tweeted: “For the Super Eagles team set to to lift its third AFCON trophy for the third time i want to say it is a job well done so far. Congratulation Pals!”

    The dropped Eagles ace who dismissed thoughts of teammate Jelavic being a threat to his place in the Everton squad said the Super Eagles will lift the AFCON trophy no matter who emerges as its opponent be it Ghana or B/Faso.

    Anichebe has started Everton’s last two games with Jelavic emerging from the bench on both occasions a role the Nigerian has impressed in this term.

    After starring in the 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion last Wednesday, Anichebe was a perpetual thorn in the side of Aston Villa on Saturday, scoring Everton’s first equalizer and earning the plaudits of both manager and his teammates.

    Leading telecommunications operator and major sponsor of the Nigerian national teams, Glo, has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for securing a quarter-final ticket in the ongoing football tournament in South Africa.

    Glo noted that the Super Eagles have been improving with every game in the competition and praised the team for displaying tenacity to clinch the three points at stake in their last match against Ethiopia, at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, South Africa.

    In a statement from the company on Wednesday, Glo advised the Eagles not to allow the text-book rating of The Elephants of Ivory Coast to affect their psyche. “Like the Super Eagles that you are, you must soar and aim for the highest point,” the statement said.

    The company further encouraged the Eagles to remain focused on the pitch and “cage the Elephants on Sunday. They are not too big to conquer.”

    The company commended Super Eagles’ fighting spirit and tenacity of purpose which earned them the deserved victory over hard fighting Walyas Antelope of Ethiopia.

    It observed that the Super Eagles and their handlers needed to improve in all departments of the game in order to triumph against Ivory Coast, the highest rated team in Africa, and advised them to work harder for victory on Sunday.

    AFCON Duties: NFF congratulates Oneya, Ojo-Oba, Bassey, others

    The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday congratulated eminent Nigerians who have been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to help deliver a successful 2013 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

    Former NFF President, Brigadier-General Dominic Oneya (rtd) is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations and will therefore be in South Africa.

    Dr. Bolaji Ojo-Oba, immediate past NFF General Secretary and a CAF Match Commissioner and Instructor, will serve as Security Officer during the tournament. Ojo-Oba only returned to Nigeria on Monday from Egypt, where he had gone to command proceedings as Match Commissioner in the CAF Champions League final, first leg match between Cairo giants Al Ahly and Cup holders Esperance of Tunisia.

    Member of NFF Technical Committee, Etubom Paul Bassey, has been appointed by CAF as General Coordinator for Group A of the tournament.

    The well-travelled foremost journalist, who is also a CAF General Coordinator, was invited to the Draw Ceremony held in Durban last month and subsequently bagged the appointment as the Super Eagles were thrown in a different pool for the group phase.

    Bassey, a former member of the CAF Media Committee, will superintend proceedings in Johannesburg and Durban, where host South Africa, Angola, Morocco and Cape Verde will do battle in the group phase of the tournament that will take place between 19th January – 10th February.

    Bassey will automatically be in the thick of organization of the opening and closing ceremonies, with Johannesburg’s choice theatre, Soccer City, set to host both mega shows.

    Coordinator of the Women National Teams, Aisha Falode, is a member of the CAF Media Committee and will also serve in that capacity at the finals, while Mr. Samson Adamu will work as an Assistant General Coordinator.

    NFF President, Alhaji Aminu Maigari, said: “The appointment of these prominent and hard working Nigerians is further proof of the high regard that the Confederation of African Football has for our people, and how much they value our contributions to the African game. We are very proud of them and their work and we wish them another flawless and blameless output at the Africa Cup of Nations.”

    The Super Eagles will play in Group C of the finals, in Nelspruit and Rustenburg, alongside Cup holders Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia.

    The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Ondo State chapter, has congratulated Messrs Martin Oloja and Debo Adesina on their promotion as the Editor and Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian.

    State Director of Media, Publicity and Strategy of the party, Mr. Idowu Ajanaku, in a statement, hailed the duo for their achievements in journalism and support for liberal democracy in Nigeria.

    He said The Guardian protects the interests of the oppressed in the society.
