Hidden weapon: Clayton is Ronaldo’s personal trainer

The personal trainer responsible for keeping Cristiano Ronaldo in top shape has been revealed as former British Olympic sprinter Samantha Clayton.

Ronaldo has developed into one of the finest athletes in world football and is rarely afraid to show off the fruit of his labour.

And the woman who has played a key role in helping the Portuguese star reach peak physical condition is Liverpool-born Clayton – who competed at the 2000 Olympics.

The 37-year-old ran in the 200m and 4x100m relay in Sydney and she is now tasked with helping an athlete reach their peak in another field.

Ronaldo met the former sprinter and nutrition expert through her work with American sports nutrition company Herbalife.

The pair are now working to improve the speed of the Real Madrid star – who has won 29 team and individual gongs during his career.

Clayton, meanwhile, lives in Malibu, California, and helps trains up-and-coming sprinters

Clayton is used to being surrounded by elite athletes. She lives with her husband Royce Clayton — the former San Francisco Giants baseball star — in Malibu California and currently trains sprinters at Pepperdine University.

Ronaldo posted a picture of him training alongside the former Olympic sprinter and captioned it by saying: ‘Working on my speed with the athlete and expert in fitness Samantha Clayton.’

Ronaldo Airport for unveiling March 29

How do you honour a footballer who has already picked up nearly every trophy available to them?

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Champions League, La Liga, and the Premier League and has established a two-way tussle with Lionel Messi for the Ballon D’Or over the last few years.

But the local government in Madeira have found another way to pay tribute to one of their favorite sons – by naming an airport after him.

Ronaldo has followed in the footsteps of the likes of John Lennon after the Aeroporto Da Madeira was named after him.

The signage went up on Friday ahead of the official unveiling on March 29, the day after Portugal take on Sweden in the island’s capital, Funchal.

It adds to a collection of Ronaldo-related establishments that have popped up over the last few years.

A museum has been opened in Madeira, while he has also opened two hotels in Funchal and Lisbon.

Ronaldo is currently with the Portugal national team as they prepare to face Sweden in a friendly match.

The Portuguese star has had a sensational past 12 months, winning the Champions League and Euro 2016 before picking up the Ballon D’Or in December.

G/keeper who fed girlfriend to dogs resumes training

A Brazilian goalkeeper who ordered his girlfriend’s murder before he fed her body to his dog has signed for a new club after serving just seven years in jail.

Bruno Fernandes de Souza, 32, has been handed a two-year contract by second tier Brazilian side Boa Esporte – in a move that has caused uproar in the country.

Women protested outside the stadium after the club announced their new signing.

Fernandes, known in Brazil as Bruno, was only recently released from prison after serving seven years of a 22-year sentence following the 2010 murder.

He was tipped for the top when he was playing for leading side and five-time league winners Flamengo, before his arrest in August 2010.

The 6ft 3ins shot-stopper was the main suspect in the murder of his former girlfriend Eliza Samudio, who he met at a footballers’ party in 2009, and with whom he had a son.

The former Flamengo captain is said to have wanted his ex-partner dead so he could avoid paying child support after she gave birth to his love child.

Police believed Bruno planned her abduction and murder with eight others, including his wife Dayane, another ex-lover, a younger cousin and a former policeman turned hitman Luiz Santos.

Brunette Ms Samudio, who had previously claimed to have had an affair with Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo, fell pregnant after Bruno’s condom burst, it is claimed.

The goalkeeper demanded she have an abortion but she went ahead with the pregnancy, instead insisting that he assume paternity of the child.

Before her disappearance on June 4, 2010, Ms Samudio had approached police claiming she had been held captive by Bruno and his associates, who forced her to take an illegal abortion drug.

Never one to shy away from showing off his physique, Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo got his hands dirty at the opening of a new CR7 gym on Monday.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has already tried his hand at being a hotelier, and he has now moved into the world of fitness with a new location in Madrid.

The Portuguese forward was in attendance as he unveiled his new ‘CR7 Crunch Fitness’ gym in the Cuidad Lineal district of Madrid, and he even shared a secret as to how he got his own impressive abs.

Speaking to journalists, he said: ‘It’s not true that I do 3,000 sit-ups every day. I usually train 4 or 5 times a week with 200 or 300 sit-ups.

His girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez watched on from the front row as Ronaldo spoke to reporters and even gave a demonstration inside the gym.

Ronaldo has a number of new hotels, and is now branching out into fitness gyms in Madrid

Although he is clearly focused on his post-football career with a number of money-making schemes, the 32-year-old surely has a few years left at the top of his game.

Ronaldo has featured 33 times for Real Madrid in all competitions this season, scoring 26 goals along the way.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are currently top of La Liga, boosted by their win and Barcelona’s defeat last weekend.

In fact, the double is still on for the Bernabeu side, given their two-legged victory over Napoli in the last 16 of the Champions League.

  • No going back on Ronaldo Airport!

No going back on Ronaldo Airport!

The regional president of Madeira has described critics of the renaming of the island’s airport in honour of Cristiano Ronaldo of “a lack of manners.”

Last year, it was announced that the airport would be renamed the Cristiano Ronaldo Aeropuerto after the Real Madrid star born in the Madeiran capital Funchal  had captained Portugal to the 2016 European Championship.

The renaming will take place on March 29 after Portugal host Sweden in a friendly in Funchal, the first time Ronaldo has played an official senior match on his home island.

But some residents have condemned the decision to rename the airport after the Real Madrid star, while the Portuguese government launched a judicial inquiry after it was not consulted on the move.

Madeira regional government president Miguel Albuquerque told A Bola it was right to honour “a great Madeirense.”

“I believe that calling this into question is a lack of manners and a stupidity,” he said. “It is a proposition to recognise a great sportsman, a great Portuguese.”

Albuquerque dismissed the idea that his regional government did not have the authority to make the decision, saying: “We have paid for the airport.

“The airport is the property of the autonomous region of Madeira. I should ask for permission to do this? From who?

“We do not recognise these complaints, which we consider not at all elegant.”

Madeira resident Sibil Soares launched an internet petition against the renaming, which received 2,547 signatures. The petition claimed the renaming was “disproportionate and lacks a plausible justification.”

Ronaldo out of Eibar clash with injury

Real Madrid have named their squad to face Eibar on Saturday and must do without the suspended Gareth Bale and now Cristiano Ronaldo, who is injured.

Los Blancos therefore travel to the form side being unable to count on their star duo, as they seek to regain the initiative in the La Liga title race with a win.

Ronaldo has not been training with his team-mates after experiencing muscle problems, revealed coach Zinedine Zidane in his pre-match conference on Friday.

The news arrives as a huge blow to the trainer given the Portuguese rescued Madrid against Las Palmas in midweek, scoring a brace to earn a 3-3 comeback.

The severity of the situation is compounded following Bale’s two-match suspension, which was confirmed as punishment for his straight red card for wrestling Jonathan Viera to the ground.

Ronaldo is Madrid’s top scorer in La Liga with 18 goals in 20 games, while Bale only recently completed his comeback from injury and will now be forced to watch his team-mates from the stands again.

Their absence would be an opportunity for the likes of Alvaro Morata, Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio to impress from the start, though Madrid’s task of facing Eibar on home turf without their biggest stars is a daunting one.

The Basque minnows are punching above their weight this term and targeting Europa League qualification for next season, with Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men formidable in their fortress of Ipurua.

Madrid face a delicate situation, having let slip what appeared a commanding position in La Liga in recent weeks to slide into second place behind Barcelona, though Zidane’s troops still boast a game in hand.

Los Blancos have won just one of their last three games – losing 2-1 at Valencia before slumping to the 3-3 home draw against Las Palmas – making a result at Eibar all the more crucial for their title hopes.

  • Champions League: Here comes Dragon ball!

Champions League: Here comes Dragon ball!

Ahead of the start of the Champions League knockout stages, adidas unveiled on Monday the new match ball that will be used throughout the rest of the competition.

Celebrating Wales, who host this year’s final at the Principality Stadium, the ball’s unique design features a striking dragon print.

The adidas team, who travelled to Cardiff for part of the design process, received inspiration from the power and strength that the dragon represents in Celtic mythology.

The ball is also set to deliver the performance benefits required to match the standards of Europe’s stars, such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Thomas Muller.

The Welsh-inspired ball will be used for the first time on Tuesday night as the knockout stages get under way.

Benfica vs Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain against Barcelona kick off the last-16 first-leg matches.

And the enthralling encounters don’t stop there, as Bayern Munich host Arsenal on Wednesday, while Real Madrid play Napoli at the Bernabeu.

And the adidas ball will be used in every match, including final on June 3 in Cardiff.

  • Ronaldo wins Best FIFA Men’s Player award

Ronaldo wins Best FIFA Men’s Player award

Cristiano Ronaldo was named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for 2016 on Monday, beating Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann on the three-man shortlist to claim the prize in Zurich.
Ronaldo, who picked up his fourth Ballon d’Or in December, also landed the first separate FIFA prize since world football’s governing body and France Football announced in September that they would be presenting two separate awards.
The Best FIFA Men’s Player award is voted for by each of FIFA’s 211 nations comprising the national team captain, manager, a journalist from every FIFA nation, and fans registered on FIFA.com — each group holding 25 percent of electoral weight — for a player’s performances from Nov. 20, 2015 to Nov. 22, 2016.
Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi shone as Barca won the 2015-16 La Liga title, but the Argentina international was upstaged this year by Ronaldo, who won both the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and Euro 2016 with Portugal in a stunning year.
Ronaldo scored 61 goals and registered 20 assists in 60 games for club and country during voting period (48 goals in 47 games for Real Madrid; 13 in 13 games for Portugal), while Messi netted 59 goals, 34 assists in 64 games (51 goals in 53 games for Barcelona; eight in 11 games for Argentina) and lost in the Copa America final to Chile.
France striker Griezmann finished as Euro 2016 top scorer and overall scored 41 goals and bagged 13 assists in 69 games (33 goals in 54 games for Atletico Madrid; eight in 15 games for France).
First awarded in 1991, the FIFA Best Player award (then known as FIFA World Player of the Year) was merged with France Football’s Ballon d’Or from 2010 through 2015 — to become the FIFA Ballon d’Or — but France Football magazine announced new rule changes for its award last year and ended its six-year association with FIFA.
Before the partnership with FIFA, the Ballon d’Or was given to the top European player from 1956 from 1994. And between 1995 and 2009, it was awarded to the best player from any continent playing at a European club.
Since 2008, only Messi (one Ballon d’Or in 2009; four FIFA Ballon d’Ors in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015) and Ronaldo (two Ballon d’Ors in 2008 and 2016; two FIFA Ballon d’Ors in 2013 and 2014) have been awarded either top prize.
Orlando City’s Kaka, in 2007, was the last to pick it up outside the duo after guiding AC Milan to the Champions League that year.

Ballon d’or winner and Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo and his new girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez were the cynosure of eyes as they strutted from a private jet to a car to their hotel in Madeira on Tuesday.
The 31-year-old footballer was seen marching from a large vehicle with tinted glass windows to their hotel in Madeira, their faces stern, eager to get inside and relax.
The brunette beauty, formally an employee of fashion house Gucci displayed her svelte figure in what is becoming a trademark casual ensemble of skinny jeans, knee-high black leather boots and a black biker jacket.
Georgina wore her raven tresses loose and kept her make-up simple letting her naturally tanned beauty make a statement on its own.
Cristiano looked typically flash in a tight black top, black skinny jean, tan boots and a denim jacket.
Georgina Rodriguez has been wearing labels like Max Mara and Balenciaga, and as one who once worked with Gucci it’s safe to say she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to style!
But the superstar footballer gave Georgina a run for her money when they were spotted out and about in Madeira, wearing a denim jacket by Dsquared2, which he teamed with a Louis Vuitton scarf.
The pair were shrouded by security guards and an entourage featuring other stylish women as they moved from a private plane to a car to the hotel.
