    Its here again, that time of the year, when the best of musicians from all over Europe and beyond gather for an acknowledgement and reward of their effort.

    MTV Europe, organisers of the MTV European Music Awards 2017, which would be held in London, have released the list of the nominees for the awards.

    Davido most followed Nigerian celeb on Instagram

    Veteran Artiste David Adeleke popularly known by his stage name, Davido has become the most followed Nigerian celebrity on Instagram.

    Davido is at the peak of the list with 5 million followers, Wizkid follows him closely with 4 million followers and Don Jazzy comes third with 3.4 million followers.

    Genevieve Nnaji is the 4th and has 3.1 million followers and PSquare’s Peter Okoye has 3 million followers.

    NIGERIAN rap icon Eedris Abdulkareem has said his rapper son, Derrick Abdulkareem, is bigger than two of nigeria’s hip hop greats – Wizkid and Davido.

    While speaking to The Nation on where he sees his son in the next five years, Eedris said: “For me I am happy that my son is here doing great and this is just the beginning, I just want the whole Wizkid and Davido to watch out.”

    On what inspired Derrick’s musical ambition, the nine year old disclosed that seeing his father do music all his life has been a major inspiration for him

    “I just love doing music because when I saw my dad doing music I feel like, wow I love to do it,” said Derrick.

    “I used watch foreign music videos and listen to them. And I said wow, I should do it.”

    The ‘Jaga Jaga’ crooner is fully in support of his son’s musical ambition.

    “The first day I did it was in school,” said the Basic Five student who has recorded and released 12 songs online and has an Extended Play (EP) titled ‘KING.’

    “We were doing a party in school, so they called me to come and dance because I’m a dancer. So I told them to give me a beat down to freestyle, so that day he (Eedris Abdukareem) said wow, wow. He started encouraging me from that day.”

    Derrick who aspires to be bigger than his role model, Kendrick Lamar in the next five years mentioned his dad as his number one role model.

    On collaborations, Derrick said he looks forward to working with Chocolate City boss M. I Abaga “because I love the way he raps and I love his kind of hip hop music.”

    On how he comes up with his rap verses, Derrick said “Uhmmm, I used to think like what people have not said before or heard before I used to do somethings.”

    Hip hop music fan Davido has been slammed by a fan after he posted a picture on Tuesday on his Instagram account in which he was holding a cigarette and a glass half filled with liquid.

    Davido captioned the post, ‘FEARLESS.’

    However, while many of his fans hailed the post which had received over 93, 000 likes by Wednesday afternoon, a fan, @cyrilato, was opposed to it.

    “The Genesis of a junkie,” wrote @cyrilato.

    “@davidofficial You need to be a good example at least for your kid.”

    Davido has two daughters from two different ladies.

    In the picture, Davido is seen wearing a denim top over a white round T-shirt on top of a camouflage trouser. With his eyes covered in dark glasses, he struck a relaxing pose as he sat cross-legged with one hand holding what looks like a cigarette while the other hand cupped the half-filled wine glass.

    The singer whose singles, ‘If’ and ‘Fall’ are enjoying acceptance from fans across the world, is presently on the U.S. leg of his 30 Billion World tour.

    AFTER concluding the European leg of his 30 Billion World Tour, hiphop artiste, Davido, started the United States leg of the tour with a show in New York.

    The ‘Fall’ crooner posted on his Twitter account that he was going to perform at the Playstation Theatre, New York on Saturday.

    He tweeted: “This Saturday July 22nd gonna be historical… New York Baby!!! Playstation Theatre!! #30billionworldtour @dedukeosy.”

    The 30 Billion World Tour tour has seen Davido already tour some African as well as European cities.

    NIGERIAN superstar, Davido thrilled the audience at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Iseyin, Oyo State last Tuesday.

    The singer performed alongside other popular acts like Sound Sultan, Base One, and Que Peller during the opening ceremony of Peller Unity Cup sponsored by Chairman Aquila Group of Companies, Shina Peller to mark the 20th remembrance of his late father, Africa’s foremost magician late Professor Moshood Abiola Peller.

    Davido, who made yet another impressive appearance on stage as usual, didn’t fail to keep the fans singing along with him.

    The excited crowd, obviously thrilled by performances from the If crooner, cheered on as he performed hit after hit at the event.

    Speaking with The Nation on the competition which has a total of 300 players from 20 teams in 10 Local Government Areas of the state competing for one trophy, the popular socialite and acclaimed King of night life, Shina Peller said his gesture is not politically motivated as he is only keen at bringing football development to the youths of Oyo State through the 20 year remembrance of his late father.

    “The main objective for this event is to promote unit among our diverse community because they say charity begins at home. I’ve been looking forward to this opportunity to be able to make something up for my people here and I can assure people of Oke-Ogun that they will be seeing me more because I am committed to this cause. It’s something I’ve been doing in Lagos and I’m doing it in Oke-Ogun and I don’t think that is bad,” said Peller, who presented free sport kits to all participating teams.

    The competition which ends on Thursday, August 3 will see winners going home with cash prizes.

    The Lagos State Government on Friday said it has concluded plans to climax the Lagos@50 celebrations with a spectacular display of fireworks.

    The Government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, said the fireworks would be on display at midnight of Sunday, May 28 on the water of Eko Atlantic.

    ”This is inform the public that there will be a display of fireworks as part of the music and fashion show to round off the 50thAnniversary Celebrations of the State. The fireworks will be on display at exactly 12 midnight at the Eko Atlantic City during the Golden Concert. Residents do not need to panic or nurse any fear whatsoever when they hear the sound of the fireworks as it is only just a symbolic way to draw the curtains of what has been a very splendid and successful celebration of our golden State.”

    “Residents who cannot attend the concert can also catch it live on Television as it promises to be a historic and exciting night of fun and maximum entertainment”, Ayorinde said.

    The Commissioner also expressed the gratitude of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to the sponsors of the fireworks, Eko Atlantic Nigeria Limited.

    The Lagos@50 Celebration, which began on May 27, 2016, has featured series of events and activities to showcase the cultural essence of the State, including Jazz Meets Runway, International Conferences, Arts Exhibition, Film Shows, among others.

    50 top artistes who have ruled the Lagos music scene over the years are expected to perform at the concert.

    Some of the artistes billed to perform include juju music maestros – King Sunny Ade and Evangelist Ebenezer Obey as well as the legendry Highlife Patriarch, Sir Victor Olaiya.

    Other superstars on board are Davido, Phyno, Olamide, Humble Smith, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, Partoranking, ‘Mr Capable’ Banky W, Runtown, Vanessa, MI, Eedris Abdulkareem, Mr. Eazi, DJ Spinall and Waka Music star, Queen Salawa Abeni.

    Also expected are star Fuji artistes like Adewale Ayuba, Abass Akande Obesere and Wasiu Alabi (Pasuma Wonder).

    The Concert would also feature a fashion show to depict the evolution of fashion in Lagos state.

    Forbes Africa has released its list of Richest African musicians.

    The list was put together using factors such as endorsement value, popularity, show rates, sales, awards, YouTube views, appearance in newspapers, investment, social media presence, influence and others.

    Nigerian artistes, Don Jazzy, Wizkid and Davido, are among the top ten richest African musicians.

    The top ten are:

    1. AKON

    Akon has over 35 million albums sold worldwide. He has won numerous awards including five Grammy Award nominations and has 45 Billboard Hot 100 songs under his belt. He tops the list according to Forbes Africa.

    2. BLACK COFFEE, SOUTH AFRICA

    The multi-award-winning artist’s real name is Nkosinathi Maphumulo. He was born in South Africa’s house music province, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and raised in the Eastern Cape province, where Nelson Mandela hailed from, before moving back to KZN to study music.

    3. HUGH MASEKELA, SOUTH AFRICA

    Hugh was born in Witbank, east of Johannesburg. He has released more than 43 albums and performed with Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds, Fela Kuti, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder and Miriam Makeba.

    4. DON JAZZY, NIGERIA

    Don Jazzy is ranked fourth richest in Africa and also first in Nigeria. Like many artists, his real name is Michael Collins Ajereh, and he started playing music as a child in church before moving to the UK to pursue his career.

    5. TINASHE, ZIMBABWE-AMERICAN

    Tinashe was a child model by the age of three. The twenty-four-year-old sang before she could talk and made her first appearance in 2000 in the film Cora Unashamed. Her voice also starred in the cartoon feature film The Polar Express alongside Oscar-winning actor, Tom Hanks.

    6. JIDENNA, NIGERIAN-AMERICAN,

    By the age of 10, Jidenna Theodore Mobisson knew he wanted to do music but was afraid to tell his father who wanted him to be an engineer. He is ranked sixth according to Forbes Africa.

    7. WIZKID, NIGERIA

    Wizkid is arguably currently the uncrowned king of African music. Grammy Award-winning artist, Alicia Keys and husband Swizz Beatz, danced to his songs Ojuelegba and Caro, with Keys posting a video on her Instagram account with the caption, “This song makes me happy”. Kylie Jenner also posted a video of herself dancing to Wizkid’s music on Snapchat.

    8. DAVIDO, NIGERIA

    Davido has claimed a high status in just five years. He said it was people like P-Square and D’Banj who made him believe this was possible. He became famous for his widely acclaimed 2012 debut album “Omo Baba Olowo”.

    9. SARKODIE, GHANA

    Michael Owusu Addo started out as an underground rapper and through the help of Duncan Williams, his former manager, his career was launched. Staying true to his identity, he is a big advocate of Azonto, a Ghanaian genre that is said to have been born out of Kpanlogo, a traditional dance.

    His first single off his fourth album, Mewu, sold almost 4,000 copies on the first day of its release in Ghana. He was also the first Ghanaian to win a BET award.

    Hip-hop sensation, Davido, whose latest single, ‘If’, is currently Africa’s biggest song, has another reason to be happy.

    The father of a daughter, Imade, took to his Snapchat to announce that his American girlfriend, Amanda, will soon give birth to his second daughter in a fortnight.

    Davido, who is in the United States, wrote: “Just wanna feed my fans with great music and take care of Imade and her little sister that would be coming in two weeks!!”

    Amanda, a student at Georgia State University, has Cape Verdean and Togolese parents.

    In recent weeks, a lady, Ayomide Labinjo, alleged that Davido is the father of her three-year-old child, Anuoluwapo, a claim which the pop singer refuted, citing a negative DNA result.

    Davido had over the weekend, lost his uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and former governor of Osun State.

    Talented Nigeria song writer, singer and performer, David Adeleke also known as Davido, is currently heartbroken over the death of his uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

    The music star who took to his various social media accounts on Monday to express his loss, described him as his hero.

    Davido wrote on his twitter and Instagram handle @iam davido, “Heartbroken… Rest In Peace My dear uncle.. SHERUBAWON’’

    The three -time senator represented Osun West Senatorial district was also a former governor of Osun State.

    The 62-year uncle of Davido died at Bikets Hospital in Oshogbo after suffering a heart attack was buried on Monday.

    Meanwhile, the latest song of the self-acclaimed `Omo Baba Olowo’ “If’’ is currently enjoying massive air play in radio and television stations across the world.

    The ‘If’ hit maker who signed record deal with Sony Music Entertainment recently visited the housemates at the just concluded Big Brother Naija reality TV show and advised them on fame and money.

    The record deal with Sony made the `Skelewu’ crooner the first African to enter into such deal with the international label.
