    Is Davido’s “SKELEWU” Spiritual?

SINCE pop star Davido released the video of his hit track, Skelewu, it has continued to generate controversy, particularly because of the money spent on it and the claim among the directors over whose work was the best.

However, the latest about the song is that, it might be a spiritual song, considering the sad incidents connected to it.

It will be recalled that Davido allegedly tweeted some days ago that Skelewu is spiritual.

With this disclosure, many are beginning to think that he may have inadvertently dropped a hint about the song, against the backdrop of the sad incidents involving the two music video directors, Sesan Ogunro and Moe Musa. The two recently lost their dads.

Sesan’s dad, Sesan Ogunro Snr., was shot by armed robbers while he was returning from his church’s Christmas Carol with his family. He was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Moe Musa’s dad died after a horrific gas explosion in his kitchen, here in Lagos.

IN the face of the unchecked scourge of piracy, Nigerian artistes are now smiling to the banks and getting the deserved royalties for their creative abilities from the MTN Callertunez service as they now use the platform to monetise their songs.

This number holds a yet unbeaten record in the telecommunications industry.

Many Nigerian artistes now see the MTN Callertunez service, which was launched in 2008, as one of the inimitable ways to monetise their creative content and offer solutions to the distribution problems, facing the Nigerian music industry. Besides, it’s impossible for the service to be duplicated or pirated. With its wide outreach to millions of subscribers, the service has a library of over 12, 000 Callertunez. Iyanya’s hit track, Kukere, which was released on December 11, 2011, was the first to cross three million downloads on any mobile telecommunications network in Nigeria, thus making the MTN Project Fame maiden edition winner to continually smile to the bank. Worthy of note, Kate Henshaw’s song, Treasure, is the most downloaded tune on the MTN Callertunez service.

Talk-of-the-moment song, Skelewu, by Davido, has become the tune of many MTN Callertunez subscribers, with over a million downloads. • Grotto Nightclub fracas Davido’s aide claims innocence

Grotto Nightclub fracas Davido’s aide claims innocence

Rising singer David Adeleke, otherwise called Davido, is at the moment battling to save his face from a controversy that seems to be posing a query on his attitude and that of his group.

The pop singer, who came out with a bang, doing a self-praise song that became an instant hit, has gone ahead to prove himself as a hard-working artiste, earning rave reviews with other successful songs, but falling victim of what many consider as youthful exuberance.

Davido, 21, was at the weekend involved in a dirty fight at the popular Grotto Nightclub on Victoria Island, Lagos, where his personal guard, Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide, aka Teejay, took on the club’s Disc Jockey in a fracas that got many people injured and property destroyed.

Reports say the singer and his group continued their fun at the club, Sunday night, after performing at a concert at Eko Hotel and Suites. While at the club, the DJ was said to have noticed that Davido’s ATM card fell on the floor and moved closer to help him pick it. Davido’s bodyguard was said to have stopped the DJ in a manner that infuriated the guy for trying to be nice to the singer. The DJ was said to have expressed his disgust, but was slapped by the infuriated bodyguard.

Pandemonium broke when the DJ allegedly retaliated by hitting the bodyguard with a brandy glass, hurting his neck in the process. Enraged, the injured bodyguard took the place apart, grabbing and flinging bottles which got other fun seekers injured.

Twitter accounts by some eye witnesses reminded one of the destructive character in the popular American film: Odyssey. The DJ is described as a four-footer being faced with Davido’s bodyguard; a six-footer.

Most of those who reacted to media reports of the incident blamed Davido and his group. Davido’s manager Kamal Ajiboye, gave a different account of what transpired, saying it was the DJ who first attacked the bodygaurd.

Corroborating Ajiboye, Davido’s management yesterday released an official statement, debunking reports that Davido’s bodyguard was at fault. Titled: “The facts: DJ Jaydee of Grotto stabbed Davido’s bodyguards, evades police”, the statement reads:

“…After a brief stay at the club, Davido and his crew proceeded to his vehicle outside to head for home. Upon entering the vehicle, he realised that his ATM card was missing. His body guard, Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide, better known as Teejay, got down from the vehicle to search for the ATM card in the club.

“Upon alighting, he was accosted by an already drunk ‘DJ Jide JayDee’, who had in his hand a champagne flute. This DJ Jaydee informed Teejay that he had the ATM card in his hand and would like to personally deliver it to Davido. Teejay politely asked him to hand over the ATM card. DJ Jaydee refused to hand over the card without payment and instead proceeded to shout that he knew who Davido was personally and that he (DJ Jaydee) was a known person in Lagos. Teejay refusd him access to Davido, which led DJ Jaydee to throw the ATM card on the ground in anger. As Teejay bent to retrieve the card, DJ Jaydee stabbed him in the neck with the champagne flute he was holding. An oblivious Teejay threw him off his back and proceeded to return the ATM card to Davido. As he was entering the car to leave, one of the occupants noticed the stab wounds and called his attention to the blood. Teejay promptly alighted from the car and went to confront DJ Jaydee, who was still yelling outside.Dj Jaydee apparently not done with his violence, stabbed the bodyguard a second time, this time in his hands and ran off into the club. Teejay searched for him to no avail and left the club soon after.

“Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has since reported the matter to the police and they have been to the club to invite DJ Jaydee for questioning. Grotto has been unable to deliver DJ Jaydee to the police, instead malicious and falsified accounts of the incident have found their way on social media portals being championed by sources intent on casting vile aspersions on Davido and his bodyguard, Teejay. DJ Jaydee is yet to surface.Tijani Olamilekan Ogbeide has pressed charges to this effect.

“Teejay was carrying out his job by restricting access to Davido from an unknown and violent individual. He performed his duties as a bodyguard and instead of resorting to violence, followed the dictates of the law.

‘’The public and fans should please note that Davido was not present at this unfortunate incident which occurred that night, as erroneously reported in a few quarters.”
