    Immigration deny Davido’s bribe claim

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has denied the allegation by musician, David Adedeji, popularly known as Davido that officers at Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) refused him departure because he refused to bribe them.

According to a statement issued in Abuja by NIS spokesman, Chukwuemeka Obua, contrary to Davido’s claim, he was prevented from traveling on Thursday, May 8 because he could not present his Nigerian passport.
The full text of the NIS statement read thus:

“The attention of the Comptroller General (CG) of Nigerian Immigration Service has been drawn to an incident that occurred on Thursday 8th May, 2014 between officers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja and a Nigerian musician named Mr. David Adedeji Adeleke (a. k. a. Davido) (here -in – after referred to as Mr. Adeleke).

“Mr. Adeleke had approached Immigration Officers at MMIA on the fateful with the intention of traveling out of the country and presented a US passport # 460918874 issued at Georgia on 14 December, 2009 and valid till 14th December, 2019. The officer that attended to him drew his attention to the fact that his US passport has no Nigerian visa on it with which he would have been admitted into the country. He responded that he has a Nigerian passport but forgot it at home. The officer now informed him that he should go and bring the Nigerian passport to convince him that he did not enter Nigeria illegally with a foreign passport without visa.

“Mr. Adeleke started arguing with the officer who had to refer the case to his superiors. The verdict here too was that he can not make the trip unless he produces the said Nigerian passport. Livid with anger Mr. Adeleke in company of his bodyguards started protesting in a disorderly manner prompting the Comptroller of Immigration in – charge at MMIA to intervene. He advised Mr. Adeleke to call his bodyguards to order and comply with the lawful instruction which would not only erase any doubt as to his immigration status but also establish his claim to dual citizenship.

“Mr. Adeleke left and on the following day being Friday 9th May, 2014 produced his Nigerian e passport # A02227477 issued at Abuja on 13th August, 2010 and valid till 12th August, 2015. This passport was endorsed/stamped and he then proceeded on his trip.

“However, Mr. Adeleke had posted a damning and defamatory message on Instangram, a social media outlet where he alleged that officers at MMIA refused him departure because he refused to bribe them. This behavior of Mr. Adeleke is quiet unfortunate, One would ordinarily have expected some form of commendation from him for the professional manner the Officers who attended to him conducted, themselves especially in saving him from eminent embarrassment at some international port of entry by ensuring that his passport is endorsed as is the law and practice in Nigeria .

“The intention of this release is not to join issues with Mr. Adeleke but to set the facts of the incident, as it happened at MMIA on the said day straight. The CG wishes to use to use this medium to appeal to Nigerians to exercise patience and cooperate with officers at their duty posts so as to be of better service to them.
” The CG will also advise Nigerians not to encourage or indulge but to report promptly any officer who by words or deeds happen to be seeking gratification before performing his/her lawful duty. All officers in uniform wear/carry name tags (and at the airports, special duty cards) by which they can be identified,”Obua stated.

Fans seek inspiration behind Davido’s Aye

Since sensational singer, David Adeleke, otherwise called Davido, released his hit song, Aye, tongues have been wagging about what or who could have inspired the party song.

Interestingly, fans, who have been trying to unravel the seeming conundrum, claimed the song might have been inspired by his recent romance with Adeola Bamisile, daughter of the ex-Ekiti State Chief Judge. Indeed, it is being rumoured that he wrote Aye, his love single released during last the Valentine Day celebration, for Bamisile.

According to reports, the two are said to be fond of each other. The lovebirds, according to reports, have been spending quality time with each other.

Even after the hectic Esther shows, Omo Baba Olowo, as he is fondly called, still reportedly made out time to chat and crack jokes with Adeola,

Meanwhile, Adeola, who is said to be currently studying for her Masters’ degree in the United Kingdom, has been enjoying the company of the Skelewu crooner.

A source, however, claimed that neither Davido nor Bamisile would want to comment on their love affair for now, for fear that it might be blown out of proportion by the press.

However, Davido, it was further gathered, might be travelling to London to be with his ‘heartthrob’ now that the Easter holiday is over.

Shanielle Sunshine’ Haye to Davido: YOU’RE A BOY

THE end to the controversy between Davido and his alleged ‘baby mama’, Shanielle ‘Sunshine’ Haye, seems not to be in sight.

Several hours after the UK-based model posted a picture of her baby bump, confirming the rumours she is expecting a set of twins, Miss Haye said she had nothing to do with Davido.

The past few days have seen the pop singer and the pretty model go back and forth on social media, throwing more confusion into the ‘baby mama’ brouhaha.

Over the weekend, Davido (who has denied he is expecting a set of twins) posted a screenshot of an online chat with Shanielle Haye and himself. The message was interpreted in two different ways by fans. The more general assumption, however, is that the model might have lost the twins.,

But two days later, Miss Haye posted a picture showing off her baby bump. It is, however, unclear when the picture was taken.

Haye doesn’t seem to be bothered about photo time stamps, as she has categorically stated that she had nothing with the pop singer.

According to her, “Every day, people want to tell more lies about me. I’m so sick and tired of all this. I do not have anything to do with that boy. I don’t understand why all of this is headline news, when so many people in the world are dying of chronic diseases.”

Davido is not the only one facing ‘baby mama’ drama in recent times. Sensational singer, Tuface Idibia, is also getting his fair share, as a Lagos-based banker is alleged to be pregnant for him.

The CEO of Black Diamond Entertainment, Wande Coal, teamed up with one of Nigeria’s top producers, Maleek Berry, to deliver a master but simple sound for all delight.

In the same vein, Davido, HKN gang head, also teamed up with little known producer, T Spice, rather than Shizzi, on his single, Aye.

The song is about a certain girl who loves Davido, but doesn’t care about the flashy stuff. “She no want designer, she no want Ferrari. She na my love o,” he sings.

Don’t expect much from me this year—Davido

IF you ask a typical Nigerian celebrity to share his or her plans for the New Year with you, you will be astounded at the revelation. Almost all will paint an ethereal picture, mostly emphasizing their readiness to take their careers to the next level.

But it was strange when sensational singer, Davido, alias Omo Baba Olowo, revealed recently, via his twitter handle, that his fans should not expect much from him this year, musically.

The reason, as stated by the artiste who made headlines last year, is that he is not the only one expected to be in the spotlight.

According to Davido, “Don’t expect much from me this year. No be only me go blow na.”

He, however, revealed that he would focus mainly on the artistes under the umbrella of his HKN Music.

In 2011, he co-produced and released “Dami Duro”, a song well-received throughout Nigeria. Along with his elder brother, Adewale Adeleke, Davido is the co-owner of HKN Music, a record label, which is home to home to Sina Rambo, Red and DeeKay.

He has produced for numerous artistes, including Naeto C, Skales, Tiwa Savage, and Sauce Kid, among others.

In April, 2012, he signed an endorsement deal with MTN Nigeria. Then, on October 23, 2013, Davido partnered with Guinness for the “Guinness World of More” concert held at the Eko Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The multiple award-winning act was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but relocated to Lagos, Nigeria at a young age.

He released his debut album, Omo Baba Olowo, in 2012, which contained songs like Back When featuring Naeto C, Dami Duro, All of You, Overseas featuring Sina Rambo, Ekuro, Gbon Gbon and Feel Alright featuring Ice Prince.

In 2013, Davido released Gobe, One of a Kind, and Skelewu, three singles, off his upcoming album slated to be released in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Cameroonian singer seeks collabo with Wizkid, Davido

HARRIET Nasang Ajone, a Germany-based Cameroonian singer, has expressed her desire to work with young Nigerian music stars.

She listed Davido, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage as some of the artistes she would love to work with.

In a chat with The Nation, she said, “I will love to do collaboration with Davido, Wizkid and Tiwa Savage. They are in my age bracket and if we work together, we will understand one another. I watch them live on YouTube. I follow everything on Twitter. Though I have not met them personally, from what I have read on the Internet, I think these are the set of people I can work with.

“As a musician, I started with R and B, but I want to do Afrobeat this time. Back in Germany, Afrobeat is not known. When I give this to them, it is going to become something new. I decided to come down to Nigeria because I want to learn something new. I decided not to go to Cameroon because they can’t give me what I am looking for. Nigeria is known for Afrobeat and I can learn a lot from here.”

“The way I dance informed my decision to switch to Afrobeat. I can’t dance the way I want to for R & B songs, but I can let loose and shake and dance to Afrobeat songs. I took to music because whenever I am sad, music is always the answer. There is nothing that makes me happy than music. I have got three tracks out there. What makes me different is my ability to dance. When I get on stage, it is not all about singing; it is also more about dancing.

When asked if she knows anything about the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, she said, “He used his music to speak the truth without minding what the people in authority would do. This made me to love him. I have the same boldness too. If I don’t have that boldness, I won’t choose to come to Nigeria to do Afrobeat. This was what Fela was to me.”

She, however, ruled out celebrity crush from her mission in Nigeria. According to her, “I am not here for romance. I am not thinking about that. I am focused and I can’t let anything like that come my way. I am not into a relationship yet, but even if the Mr. Right comes, I will tell him I am not ready now. I don’t have a celebrity crush.”

  • CALFEST: 2face, Davido, Iyanya others excite

CALFEST: 2face, Davido, Iyanya others excite

One would have thought that following the boisterous carnival activities of last Friday, the tempo of fanfare would subside.

But Calabar, the ancient city of Cross River State, rose again, with renewed vigour, featuring top Nigerian artistes in a post- Calabar carnival concert.

2face Idibia, Iyanya, Davido and Sound Sultan were an irresistible lineup for revelers, who thronged the main bowl of the U.J Esuene Stadium on Saturday night.

Tagged “Calabar Rocks”, the 16,000 capacity stadium, at 8.00p.m., was literally bursting at the seams, as hordes of spectators got thrilled by the best of Nigeria’s musical gladiators.

After what seemed like an endless wait by the music buffs, whose appetite had been whet by local acts, the crowd suddenly went haywire with the appearance of Sound. The act stood the most unwilling from their seat.

If anyone thought the crowd was jaded by fatigue of the previous day jamz and the gyration on display on this sweaty Saturday night by the old, the young men and women offered no such hint.

Nato C dished out some of his rap tunes much to the excitement of the music throngs who wound and wriggled while the act did his thing.

The stadium erupted in ecstasy when the ‘Skelewu’ and ‘Omo Baba Lowo’ crooner, Davido, mounted the stage and got the crowd crooning and yelling along to his rave tunes. It was a moment they sure would live to remember in a long while to come.

In what could be regarded as home-coming, it was the turn of Iyanya who was given a hero’s welcome by the crowd as he took to the stage.

With his ‘Kukere’ and ‘Your Waist’ anthems, the singer, expectedly, wowed the crowd into a wild moment, singing and dancing to his native ‘Etighi’ dance steps.

And then it was the turn of 2face to thrill the crowd. Tunes after tunes, the Nigerian multi-award winning music sensation got the crowd rocking back and forth, as the night wore on into the early hours of Sunday.

It was not just a night of music alone, one of Nigeria’s finest comedians, Julius Agwu, thrilled the crowd with his rib-cracking jokes.

It was obvious the fun- seekers wished the show didn’t end.
