  • PDP hails Buhari’s return

The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday welcomed President Muhammadu Buhari from his medical vacation in London.

In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, the party prayed for complete recovery of the President.

It, however, advised the Presidency to be more transparent in managing the President’s health, saying “Nigerians deserves to know the health status of their President and how it’s being managed.

“In the same vein, we thank the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for holding forth creditably while the President was away.

“We urge him to continue to work assiduously to lift the nation out of this debilitating economic recession.

“To achieve this all hands must be on deck. And, there is therefore the need to reduce political tension and bring all Nigerians together.’’

It also called on all Nigerians to continue to pray for Buhari’s quick recovery and for wisdom for Osinbajo, in the onerous task of steering the ship of the nation.

  • PDP won’t hold any convention under Sheriff – Adeyeye

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee has said the party would not hold any national convention under the leadership of Ali Modu Sheriff

The Publicity Secretary of the Committee, Dayo Adeyeye, told journalists on Thursday in Abuja that the party could not trust Sheriff with its leadership.

He added that given the “lawless and untoward behaviour of Sheriff so far,” it appeared that there would be no meeting point in resolving the party crisis.

Adeyeye, who described Sheriff –led National Working Committee (NWC) as illegal, urged him to immediately stop operating on behalf of the party.

He also urged Sheriff to stop parading himself as Acting National Chairman of PDP following the judgment of an Abuja High Court delivered by Justice Valentine Ashi on June 29, 2016.

The court judgement, according to Adeyeye nullified the 2014 Amendment to the PDP Constitution that produced Sheriff as Acting National Chairman of the PDP and that the judgement was never appealed.

Adeyeye added that there was another valid judgment delivered on Augut 17, 2016 by Justice Nwamaka Ogbonnaya of the FCT High Court in Abuja which reaffirmed Sheriff’s sack as PDP Chairman.

  • Makarfi camp slams Okorocha over comments on PDP crisis

The Ahmed Makarfi led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for his comments on the party crisis.

Okorocha was quoted in the media as calling on members of the PDP to stop heating up the polity by respecting the Court of Appeal judgment that affirmed Ali Modu Sheriff as national chairman of the party.

Okorocha is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)

In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesman of the Makarfi camp, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said Okorocha’s statement did not come as a surprise.

“He (Okorocha) is not known to be a person who exercises caution or restraint before making unguarded statements. His constant vituperation on matters small or big is indicative of an over-excited mind desperately in need of a large dose of tranquilizer.

“It is curious that while he would want the PDP to accept the verdict of the Court of Appeal and not exercise its right of appeal to the Supreme Court, he was nowhere to be found when Sheriff refused to accept the judgment of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, but instead proceeded to the Court of Appeal.

“In any case, what is Okorocha’s special interest in PDP matter? Need Nigerians any further conviction that the APC is the unseen hand stoking the fire of crisis in the PDP and Sheriff and his cohorts mere puppets in their hands?

“The desperate attempt by APC to exonerate itself only further exposed its duplicity. The police excuse for preventing a peaceful assembly of distinguished PDP members on alleged but unproven security threat is an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians.

“It is the duty of the police to provide security if they suspect any breach of peace. It is a gross abnegation of its responsibilities to prevent people from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right of peaceful assembly.  No one is in doubt today that the police has submitted itself to total control and direction by the APC,” Adeyeye said.

He urged the governor to advise his friends or agents in the PDP to fully comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

“The status quo ante May 21, 2016 is the full National Working Committee (NWC) elected at previous conventions and not the cronies that Sheriff singlehandedly appointed and who are parading themselves as officers of the party,” Adeyeye added.

The spokesman restated the resolve of the Makarfi camp to pursue its case to a logical conclusion in the interest of justice and Nigerian democracy.

  • Buhari’s anti-corruption war a ruse – PDP

    Buhari’s anti-corruption war a ruse – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war is a ruse.

The party was reacting to the President’s clearance of the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. David Babachir Lawal, of corruption allegations.

A statement issued on Wednesday by the spokesman of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said clearing Magu and Lawal “has finally confirmed our earlier assertion that the ‘anti-corruption war’ of the All Progressive Congress (APC)- led administration is a ruse; a witch-hunting mechanism to harass PDP members and perceived enemies of this administration.”

The statement said, “It is no longer news that all those who are serving in the government of President Muhammadu Buhari or who are members of his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) within the last two years of his administration have all been cleared of any wrong doing; notwithstanding documentary and other incontrovertible evidences to the contrary.

“The Presidency in today’s dispensation is the ‘Judicial Clearing House’ issuing clean bill of health to all accused corrupt officials who are members of the APC and friends of the administration.

“It is quite disturbing that the President cleared his SGF of wrong doing despite the weighty evidences of his “grass-cutting abilities” uncovered by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, implicating Babachir of complicity in the award of contracts relating to the IDP camp in Borno State amounting to over 200 million Naira.

“It is more worrisome that Mr. President made light of the DSS Report which directly indicted the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, of several unwholesome and corrupt practices in the line of his duties.

“President Buhari saw nothing wrong in the report but was quick to order the invasion of judges homes in a Gestapo and commando-style following the same DSS report.

“What a double standard! It appears that the APC led government is implementing two constitutions in Nigeria; one for the PDP and other opposition parties and their leaders; while the other is for the ruling party, the APC and friends of this administration.”

The PDP also alluded to the clearance given to the Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, in the Dubai property saga, found to belong to the Army Staff.

“The Chief of Army Staff was cleared of all accusations even with convincing evidence of owning choice properties in Dubai beyond his income; and also overwhelming evidence of misdeeds while serving as Director of Procurement in the last administration.

“Notwithstanding, President Buhari cleared him by attributing his ownership of choice properties to diligent and thrifty saving of his wages but went after Supreme Court Justices for owning properties as if the Judges too cannot also save from their own wages.

“In the same vien, ‘Buhari’s Court’ also cleared the Minister of Interior, Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau for owning properties worth over 1.5 billion Naira in the United States of America; and in fact rather than being prosecuted, he was rewarded with the highest budget vote in the 2017 Budget.”

  • PDP to FG: Declare emergency on economy

PDP to FG: Declare emergency on economy

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to declare “emergency” on the economy.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, made the call in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

Adeyeye also advised government to invite competent hands to manage and revive the country’s economy.

He, however, said that PDP had been vindicated of its positions following the acceptance of responsibility regarding the economic misfortune caused by the APC.

He said Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, who spoke with newsmen after APC governors meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday accepted the responsibility.

Adeyeye quoted Okorocha as saying “We must take responsibility and we must never shift the responsibility to anybody. We are responsible for everything happening in Nigeria.

“The good, the bad, the ugly but we are promising Nigerians that we shall fix it”.

The PDP spokesman said that the declaration came after several months of bulk-passing to previous PDP administration.

He called on the APC to also accept other responsibilities as well correct the impression that previous PDP administration achieved nothing in the economy, infrastructure and policies in 16 years.

“For the umpteenth time, let us reiterate that the PDP’s achievements cannot be wished away.

“We therefore appreciate the APC’s acceptance.

“We urge them to accept all other responsibilities for all the wrongs they have plunged the country into and equally apologise for their serial lies.’’(NAN)

  • New Media: PDP denies sacking Adeyanju as director

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday denied rumours of sacking its Director of New Media, Deji Adeyanju.

Chairman of the party’s Caretaker Committee, Ahmed Makarfi, who disclosed this to an online news platform said that the leadership of the party only had issues with some ‘far-reaching statements’ distributed by Mr. Adeyanju ‘without.’

Mr. Adeyanju was announced removed in a statement distributed by Dayo Adeyeye, the party’s publicity secretary, on Friday afternoon. The statement cited different acts of insubordination.

Contrary to statements credited to Dayo Adeyeye, PDP’s publicity secretary announcing Adeyanju’s sack, Mr. Makarfi, in a statement, said the PDP still recognises Mr. Adeyanju and the new media department.

However, he added the activities of the New media department would be streamlined going forward.

“If he was employed by the last National Working Committee, then we will have no reason to remove him but to streamline his work,” Makarfi, the former governor of Kaduna State stressed.

Recall that Makarfi is the head of an ad-hoc leadership set up by the party at its botched national convention in Port Harcourt last month.

Mr. Adeyanju was appointed in December 2015, and had been responsible for issuing press statements on behalf of the party.
After months of controversial statements following the party’s 2015 elections misfortune, the PDP apologised for contributing to the toxic atmosphere on social media and promied to improve on its opposition by making it more robust and constructive.

  • PDP faults Odigie-Oyegun’s position on Ekweremadu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the position of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun’s position on the ongoing trial of the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu.

Ekweremadu is being tried alongside the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and two others over alleged forgery of the 2015 Senate standing rules.

Odigie-Oyegun was quoted to have said that the emergence of Ekweremadu as Deputy Senate President rankled the APC, adding that the party found it very difficult to accept Ekweremadu’s emergence.

In a statement on Tuesday, the spokesman of the caretaker committee of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, described the trial as harassment of the accused persons.

He also labelled the criminal charges against the principal officers as “phantom and shenanigan.”

“We however, want to make it clear that the APC has no constitutional or moral grounds to be displeased with Ekweremadu’s emergence or to go this ridiculous length to harass, intimidate, embarrass, and malign him and the institution of the Senate on account of a position to which his colleagues, cutting across party lines, elected him in a transparent and televised election in line with Section 50 of the 1999 Constitution as amended,” Adeyeye stated.

He recalled that the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari had commended the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, when he defected from the PDP to APC in 2014 and still retained his position as Speaker.

Adeyeye also recalled that the then National Publicity Secretary of the APC and the present Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had similarly hailed Tambuwal’s defection to the APC.

Mohammed had gone ahead to described Tambuwal’s defection as “a balanced setting in government and democracy,” adding that the defection had the backing of history and the constitution.

  • Vote for Jonathan, says minister

    Vote for Jonathan, says minister

Minister of State for Works Dayo Adeyeye has called on Ekiti people to vote for President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeyeye said Jonathan has demonstrated his love for the Yoruba by carrying out key projects in the Southwest and appointing more Yoruba to key positions.

Speaking on a live programme on Ekiti State Television (EKTV) which was monitored by our correspondent on Monday, Adeyeye explained that Jonathan gave Ekiti State a federal university within one year of his administration.

He contended that Jonathan and the PDP represent a bright future for the Yoruba and Nigeria if voted into power.

The minister argued that many Ekiti indigenes have been empowered through Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) and other programmes by the Federal Government.

He said the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was been rehabilitated and approval has been given for the building of two more seaports in Lagos.

“President Goodluck Jonathan has demonstrated his love for the Yoruba by giving us a university in Ekiti, constructing the abandoned Lagos-Ibadan Expressway; among roads, approval for the construction of two seaports in Lagos and most importantly, by resuscitating rail transportation.

“Therefore, no real Yoruba person, who is sincerely interested in the progress of the Yoruba, will support a return of Buhari, who will set us back by more than 50 years as president.”

  • Adeyeye: June 21 election, a must win for PDP

Adeyeye: June 21 election, a must win for PDP

Former governorship aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has described the June 21 governorship election as “a must win for the PDP.”

Hence, he has promised not to waiver in his support for the party’s candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Adeyeye, who is a chieftain of Afenifere, urged his supporters to continue to work for the victory of the PDP and its candidate.

“My support for Fayose is total and we must all join hands with him to win the election,” he said.

Adeyeye, in a statement yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, said there was nothing to benefit in failure, adding that he remained steadfast and committed to Fayose’s governorship ambition. He disclosed that all his supporters have been mandated to return to their various wards to mobilise support for the PDP.

He said: “I am happy at the commitment of the Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement’s (PAAM) family to this election and I want to urge them to double their efforts to ensure total victory for our party.

“I, therefore, call on all members and supporters of our party, the PDP not to allow anyone to hoodwink them with unfounded rumour.”

He urged the party faithful to remain focused and concentrate their efforts on winning the governorship election to rescue Ekiti State from the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) administration.

Omoyeni, others hailed on PDP’s reconciliation

Afenifere chieftain and governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, has hailed Chief Bisi Omoyeni, Ambassador Dare Bejide and other aspirants who have agreed to work for the success of the party in the June 21 election.

He said: “As loyal party men, we must look beyond personal ambitions in whatever we do.”

Adeyeye described Omoyeni’s open declaration of support for the party’s candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, as a justification of the position that he (Adeyeye) took two weeks ago.

He said: “I am happy that other aspirants are now seeing what I saw two weeks ago. They have now seen reasons we should support our party and I commend them.”

In a statement yesterday, Adeyeye said: “I appeal to those who are yet to join the PDP/Fayose train to come in quickly, so that we can collectively rescue Ekiti people from mis-governance.”
