    Tompolo denies Avengers

Ex-militant leader Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo),has appealed to the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) militant group to halt attacks on oil installations in order to avert disaster in the region.

He said in a statement: “If truly as you (NDA) claimed that you are fighting for the well-being of the people of the Niger Delta, then you must adhere to this appeal, otherwise, the world will label you as criminals,” he added.

Tompolo, who is accused of masterminding the attacks in exchange for a soft-landing in his corruption trial by the EFCC, for the umpteenth time, denied the allegation and expressed confidence on the ability of his legal team to argue his case.

He warned the militants on the consequences of attacks on key oil and gas assets, stressing that the Federal Government was willing to crush any obstacle to unhindered flow of oil in the region.

The former MEND leader’s warning is the heels of threat by the militant group to carry out an attack that will “shake the whole world.”

He said, “One thing you (NDA) should know is that government is not interested in its constitutional duty of protection of lives and the welfare of its citizens, rather it is interested in the continues flow of crude oil in the region, therefore it could do anything to make the oil flow, not minding the security and the welfare of the people.

“Come to think of the consequences of your actions in the region so far, particularly as it affects me and the people of Gbaramatu kingdom. Just yesterday, the Nigerian Army invaded the ancestral headquarters of the kingdom, Oporoza town, under the guise of looking for members of your group, particularly me, who they have wickedly linked to your group, and unleashed mayhem on the innocent people of the community.

“And this happened in my absence as I am currently out of Gbaramatu kingdom, but what I gathered from some of the victims of the army invasion is unspeakable. Even pots of soup where not spared.

“The Army has massively looted residents’ homes, desecrated traditional places of worship, committed sacrileges, abominations and what have you. The army has continued to occupy the community till this moment.

“One other reason you guys must stop this new campaign of destruction is that the contractors in charge of repair works of attacked pipelines are equally culpable in the act of pipeline vandalism as they now sponsor their allays in the communities to continue to destroy pipelines to get more repair works. This is the sorry state we have found ourselves in the Niger Delta.

“To this end dear Niger Delta Avengers, you must put an end to this economic sabotage and allow the government to look into your demands now. I believe a word is enough for the wise,” he added.

Speaking on his corruption trial by the EFCC, Tompolo reiterated his pledge not to resort to violence and and bombing of oil pipelines, stressing that his “team of lawyers have already challenged the defective process of legal service on me in the Court of Appeal. I am a man of truth and peace, therefore will not be involved in violent activities.

“That notwithstanding, for the love of country and out of patriotism, I wish to appeal to you once again to stop the bombing of oil facilities in the Niger Delta region, and embrace the path of dialogue with the Federal Government of Nigeria, as the government is ready to hear you out on whatever issues you wish to discuss with it.”

Former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has requested the Federal Government to call Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole to order over what she called efforts to link her name to the alleged $2.1 billion arms issue.

A statement from her media Adviser, Paul Nwabuikwu, said Mrs Okonjo-Iweala “has absolutely nothing to do with the issue”.

Okonjo-Iweala described as “an abuse of public office, the judicial process and her human rights for Governor Oshiomhole whom she stopped from taking a highly suspicious N15 billion loan to make false allegations against her while hiding behind the constitutional immunity granted state governors.”

I left home because she denies me sex, says man

A 39-year-old man, Abuzeidu Umoru, has pleaded with a Lagos Island Customary Court, to dissolve his 10-year-old marriage to his wife, Adewunmi.

The petitioner, a native of Niger Republic, said his wife does not respect him and does whatever she pleases.

“I love my wife wholeheartedly, but she doesn’t believe she is meant to be submissive to her husband. It got to a stage she denied me sex and I left home last December,” he said.

Umoru who confessed having another woman he wants to marry said he ‘loves’ his wife more.

“The girl is from Maiduguri and she is still schooling; when she is done, I shall marry her. My coming to court is not my wish but my wife is not cooperating with me. I saw her through nursing school and catered for her needs. I am still an illiterate. I don’t know the reasons for her actions. I want the end of our union and the custody of our eight-year-old son while our daughter lives with her,” he said.

The respondent, Mrs Umoru, in her defence, said she also did not know where things went wrong.

The 39-year-old nurse said when she got pregnant of her second child, her mother-in-law visited and asked her to prepare her food but since she was tired, her husband volunteered to do the cooking.

She said:”After that day, my husband changed towards me. When I asked him what the problem was, he said I should ask his mum who was living with us at that time. When I went to beg her, she referred me to my husband’s brother. “Only for both of them to tell me that if I want peace to reign, I must vacate the flat in which  I was living with my husband and move to a one room apartment.”

She said the room was in a bad condition when she moved there.

She further said that in 2013, her mother-in-law said her husband was going to marry another wife and there was nothing she could do.

“If it is his wish to marry another wife, I am not against it. I am just baffled over what is happening,” shae added.

The Court’s President, Chief Awos Awosola, advised the couple to be peaceful and adjourned the matter till today.

  • Anyim denies links with new party

Former Senate President and immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, has denied reports that he is part of a group of PDP politicians who have teamed up with the party’s former chairman, Ahmed Mu’azu, to form a new political party.

Describing the reports as false, mischievous and irresponsible, Anyim said that he has not had any meeting or discussion with Mu’azu “pursuant to the formation of a new political party. “

In a press statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, Anyim said he had not seen, met with, or spoken to the former PDP chairman. He also denied being aware that any person or group of persons was in the process of forming any new party or parties, and that no one had consulted him on the matter.

He further said in the terse statement that he is “neither interested in nor available for any such consultations.”

    Manu Garba denies bribe-for-selection allegation

A close ally to under fire Flying Eagles coach, Manu Garba, has dismissed suggestions that he received gratification from Saviour Godwin’s agent to include the FC Sports forward in his 21-man roster for the World Cup at the expense of Alhassan Ibrahim.

And he has stressed that Manu Garba’s lieutenant, Nduka Ugbade, was behind Godwin joining the team after he was snubbed for the African Youth Championship.

“Nduka Ugbade brought Saviour to the team not Manu Garba, he asked him to come back and join them after he played for the Olympic Team in the Super 6,” the top source told allnigeriasoccer.com.

Kelechi Iheanacho dropped to the bench after the Flying Eagles’ opener against Brazil and there had been suggestions that Manu Garba took that decision after the Manchester City starlet refused to pay him a bribe.

“If you watched the game with Brazil, deep inside you, you will say the truth that Kelechi was a shadow of himself.

“We can not question the coaches for not playing Kelechi, Success and Musa Yahaya because they know these players more than any other person.

“It was coach Nduka that asked Manu Garba to remove the three players from the starting line-up after the Brazil game.

“The people making these false accusations are after their personal interest,”he concluded.

The Nigeria squad will land in Abuja today after departing New Zealand on Friday.

  • Keshi denies dumping bench warmers

    Keshi denies dumping bench warmers

Super Eagles chief coach STEPHEN KESHI has declared that he along with his coaching crew, will invite Nigerian Players that they believe will be useful to the team’s progress. In an exclusive chat with Sportinglife, Keshi stated that there was never a time he decided not to invite Super Eagles Stars not playing regularly in their Club sides in Europe and elsewhere.

Keshi insisted that he would invite players that would contribute to the team’s success even if they are bit-part players in their teams because they could have genuine reasons why they are not playing in their Clubs due to the Club Coaches preferences.

According to Keshi:”I don’t know where you got that information from. There was never a time I said I will not invite players that do not feature regularly in their club sides. What I said was that most players are no longer regular in their teams and that we will see what will happen. If there is anyone that we can use, that can help us out, we will get him in.”

“You know that even if some of them are not playing regularly in their team that they are not in good position or shape but the coaches’ choice. You know that the coach can decide that I don’t want a player to play this week or that I don’t want a player to play tomorrow and that is it. That  will not stop me from inviting a player if I see that he is good out there.”

KESHI also spoke on the issue that he does not personally show interest in monitoring talents in the Nigerian Premier League, stating that his style is not to make his presence conspicuous  when he goes to watch games. He also informed that he has capable assistants regularly monitoring the Leagues:

“I saw a lot of potential players on both sides. Sharks and Heartland FC. The pace was a little bit slow, but the good thing I am happy about that I took note of is, that you can see individual brilliance, individual efforts. And it is something that you can build on and can make any correction if you want. It wasn’t bad at all.”

“I have been watching the Nigerian League matches before this Ifeanyi Mba team home game.

Coach Valere always did, coach Ike Shorounmu too and I believe Coach Salisu Yusuf also does that. So, it’s not that the Heartland FC match is the first one I went to.

It’s just that I try not to be pronounced or conspicuous when I go to those matches.”

  • Atiku denies link with Ribadu

Former Vice President and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku Abubakar, has said that photographs of him canvassing for votes for the PDP governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, was a fraud done out of malice.

In a statement from his media office in Abuja yesterday, Atiku dissociated himself from the photograph, while restating his commitment to the successes of the All Progressives Congress in all the elections, including the governorship and state assembly elections.

He said that mischief makers were at work in trying to link him with the PDP candidate, adding that the banner in question was the same banner he held in canvassing for votes for the Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, during the last governorship election in Osun State.

The former Vice President said further that having worked for the success of the APC in the just-concluded  presidential and National Assembly elections, the imperative of voting for the APC in the elections in the country on April 11 is a virtue that he is firmly committed to, and to which he will urge all Nigerians to give unwavering support.

He said: “The purported photograph of me canvassing for votes for the PDP in the Adamawa governorship election is a fraud and done out of outright malice.

“I did not and will never call for support for any candidate of the PDP. The photograph that is being circulated is the photoshop copy of my photograph that called for votes for the Osun State governor in the 2014 gubernatorial election in that state.

“My commitment to support and canvass for votes for the APC, not only in Adamawa State, but in all strata of elections across the country is a virtue that I will urge all Nigerians to follow”.

  • NFF denies Allardyce

    NFF denies Allardyce

Newly appointed General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Mohammed Sanusi has rebuffed reports that the Glass House are interested to hire West Ham United manager, Sam Allardyce as the next Super Eagles coach.

Sanusi, speaking to the media for the first time since replacing Musa Amadu on Thursday, said he wasn’t aware of them wanting to hire the Englishman, and went on to claim he was only hearing that for the first time.

“Sam Allardyce? I’m not aware of that. This is the first time I’m hearing this. I tell you it is the first time I am hearing of this,” he said.

The NFF is yet to seal a deal with Stephen Keshi, weeks after offering him a contract and is yet to announce an alternative, even though NFF President, Amaju Pinnick did admit they would seek alternatives if Keshi doesn’t sign.

Despite refuting reports about hiring Sam Allardyce, Sanusi, however, refused to give details on why Keshi is yet to sign the contract offered to him.

“On Stephen Keshi’s matter, I can’t speak about that now. I only just resumed office yesterday and I am yet to be properly briefed by the relevant departments and when that is done, I promise I will give you more information,” he stated.

  • 2015 poll: AGF denies funding alleged N2b anti-election suits

2015 poll: AGF denies funding alleged N2b anti-election suits

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation yesterday denied that the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke(SAN) is bankrolling the alleged N2billion anti-election suits .

Adoke, the ministry said in a statement in Abuja, remains committed to the conduct of free, fair and credible elections and within the time frame stipulated by the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act.

It said that that the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation has not received N 2 Billion to facilitate the filling of lawsuits to postpone/terminate the elections or disqualify any candidate.

The ministry cited the AGF’s order for the withdrawal of an affidavit, purportedly from the Federal Government, against the use of Permanent Voters Cards during the forthcoming elections,as a measure of his sincerity.

Senior Special Assistant to the minister,Prof. Peter Akper, who signed the statement said the allegation was to harass and intimidate the AGF from discharging his duties.

His words: “I wish to categorically state from my vantage position that these allegations are not only false but are designed to harass, distract and intimidate the Attorney General from discharging his duties.

“Let Nigerians be assured that the Attorney General of the Federation remains committed to the conduct of free, fair and credible elections and within the time frame clearly stipulated in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 and the Electoral Act, as amended.

“Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke, is very conscious of the ethical and professional demands of his high office and his constitutional responsibility as ‘Guardian’ of the Constitution and has demonstrated this time and again in the discharge of his duties. He is one Public Officer that has the moral conviction and courage to speak the truth at all times in the defence of national interest, no matter whose ox is gored.

“Aware of his place in history and the experiences of his predecessors in office, Mr. Adoke has refrained from partisanship and has not allowed it to becloud his sense of judgment.”

The OAGF also explained that the Minister had withdrawn a Federal Government’s affidavit and written address in support of non-use of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) during the fortcoming elections and that “It was this strength of character that prompted him to disassociate himself from the affidavit that was supposedly deposed to on his behalf, by a Staff of the Federal Ministry of Justice without his authority and knowledge of its contents.

“Adoke, as I know him, is irrevocably committed to the conduct of the general elections; he is a constitutional purist who would rather resign his office, than engage in acts capable of undermining the Constitution.

“His strength of character and personal conviction will not permit him to resort to underhand tactics in order to subvert the electoral process.

“To the best of my knowledge, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation has not received N2billion to facilitate the filling of lawsuits to postpone, terminate the elections or disqualify any candidate. I challenge any lawyer who has been so retained to speak up in the interest of our democracy and present his or her letter of instructions to that effect. “
