Ice Prince denies snubbing Glo’s offer

OVER last weekend, reports emerged that Chocolate City’s rapper, Ice Prince, real name, Panshak Zamani, had snubbed a multi-million naira deal with Telecommunications Company, Globacom but the award-winning artiste has dismissed any such news.

“We were just as surprised as anybody when we read the news of Ice Prince “purportedly” turning down ‘the offer’, especially since it isn’t true,” said Tobi Sanni-Daniel, Ice Prince’s business manager.

“Globacom is a multi-national company with an excellent track record of delivering quality. Any individual would be proud and honoured to be associated with them. “However to say that we have turned down an endorsement deal is false and completely baseless,” Tobi adds.

Ice Prince has recently been busy in the studio as he gears towards another anticipated album later in the year. He has released a remix to the successful Aboki as well as a video for ‘Truth’ which has already gone viral.

  • ACN denies rumour

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in Oyo State has denied rumours of the suspension of a chieftain of the party, Alhaji Abass Oloko.

The party also warned the Oyo State chapter of Jama’tul Islamic Society of Nigeria to desist from making unguided statements and overheating the polity with such unfounded claims.

The Islamic group had in a report during the week, claimed that Alhaji Abass Oloko had been suspended from the ACN over fallouts of an alleged assault on the Chairman of the state’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold, among other wrong behaviours.

The group, in the report also advised the state helmsman, Governor Abiola Ajimobi to beware of sycophants and praise singers who do not wish him well.

In a statement refuting the suspension claim, the party’s Public Relations Officers, Alhaji Dauda Kolawole, said that Oloko was still a member of the party and no suspension letter was issued on him.

According to Kolawole,  Alhaji Oloko has been a vibrant member of the party for more than three years and has never been involved  in  any act of violence that warrants suspension. He also warned Jama’atul Islamic Society to  stop interfering in the party’s affairs.

“No announcement has been made that he was suspended, so we do not know where the group got their own facts from. Our party does not chase away vibrant members like Alhaji Oloko because he is a peaceful fellow and he is working tirelessly for the progress of our party” the statement reads

In his own reaction, Alhaji Abass Oloko described the islamic group as a faceless one being sponsored by unscrupulous persons in the state to destroy his image, adding that they should desist from doing such or face the wrath of the law.

  • Minister denies booking Super Eagles return tickets

Minister denies booking Super Eagles return tickets

Sports Minister Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has condemned a publication in a national newspaper claiming that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had booked the return tickets for the Super Eagles before the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa was played.

The Sports Minster clarified this in a release signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Julius Ogunro yesterday.

According to Ogunro, “our attention has been drawn to a news report titled, ‘Incredible! NFF booked Eagles return tickets before q/final match’ back page of the Vanguard newspaper of yesterday.

“The thrust of the story was that the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation lacked faith in the technical crew of the Super Eagles and did not expect the team to go beyond the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

“According to the outlandish claim by the writer, the NFF had perfected plans for the return of the team before the match against the Elephants of Cote’d Ivoire because it expected the Super Eagles to lose.

“We wish to state that there is no grain of truth in this report. It is ridiculous, lacks merit and is the product of the fertile imagination of the author. Even more depressing is the fact that the peddler of this falsehood, a reporter with the renowned national newspaper, lacks elementary knowledge about how international football competitions are organized. If the reporter is sure of his claim he should provide evidence of the so-called travel arrangements and the name of the airline.

“For the sake of clarifications, it is the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), not the NSC or the NFF, that is responsible for the return flight arrangements of the teams in the Nations Cup. CAF is also responsible for their accommodation, feeding and transportation to the venue of the matches. It can only book return tickets for a team after it has crashed out of a tournament, not before.

“The NSC and NFF have absolutely no role to play in these arrangements. It is absurd for a reporter who should know better to suggest the contrary, except he is pursuing a hidden agenda. That seems to be the only reasonable explanation for the devious report. At a time when all Nigerians are celebrating the Super Eagles for making the nation proud by beating the Elephants of Cote’d Ivoire, the only goal of that report seems to be to demoralize the team and set them against football administrators in the country

“We therefore call on the management of the Vanguard newspaper to investigate the claims made and take appropriate actions to ensure that this type of devious mischief is not repeated.

“The Honorable Minister of Sports and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has however appealed to the technical crew and the players of the Super Eagles not to be distracted by hearsays and rumors, and to focus on wining their next match. He also thanked the management of the newspaper, especially the Publisher, for their support over time.”

  • 2015: Sambo denies joining Obasanjo to fight Jonathan

2015: Sambo denies joining Obasanjo to fight Jonathan

Vice President Namadi Sambo has denied joining forces with former President Olusegun Obasanjo against President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 election.

There have been reports that Sambo facilitated Obasanjo’s meeting with traditional rulers in Kaduna, where he allegedly sought their support.

Sambo described the reports as “wrong and mischievous”.

The Vice President, who responded yesterday through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) (Media and Publicity), Umar Sani, said Obasanjo’s visit to Kaduna was to commiserate with the people over the death of Governor Patrick Yakowa.

Sambo, who explained how the meeting took place and what transpired at the forum, pointed out that the event was not only held in the open but also covered by journalists.

His words: “The visit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo was merely to commiserate and console with the Vice President and the good people of Kaduna State. The visit with his entourage was witnessed by journalists.

“After the visit, there was a meeting already scheduled by the Vice President between the new governor and the traditional rulers in the State, which was held within the same vicinity where the former President met with the Vice President for the condolence visit.

“The essence of the meeting put together by the Vice President between the new Governor and the traditional rulers was to mobilise support and cooperation of the traditional rulers for the new governor.

“That particular meeting was not in isolation because it was part of series of meetings being held to mobilise support for the new governor.

“The reason why former President Obasanjo was at the meeting was because it was in the same Gen. Hassan Katsina House and his arrival concided with the time of the meeting.

“More importantly, he was invited by the Emir of Zauzzau, that since his colleagues were there, former President Obasanjo should come over and greet them.

“His presence at the meeting was to greet the traditional rulers and wish them well. Moreover, the meeting was held in the open and everyone that spoke did so in the open and in the presence of others.

“It is also instructive to note that the meeting was covered by journalists. In view of this, we wonder where the story of Obasanjo and the Vice President teaming up came from, that there is a problem brewing in the Presidency.

“There is nothing like that, it is just an insinuation intended to put the Presidency to ridicule in the eyes of the public.

“The entire report is wrong and mischievous”.

President Jonathan has said he is yet to speak on his political future, which has been hit by controversies. Only last week, Abuja streets were adorned with posters announcing the President’s interest in the 2015 election.

The Presidency disowned the posters, stressing that those pasting them were out to distract Dr. Jonathan.

  • Kogi denies diversion of flood funds

The Kogi State Government has denied the alleged diversion of funds for flood victims in the state.

It described a statement by the state chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) that the Idris Wada administration has mismanaged the donations received for the Flood Disaster Management as frivolous, unfounded and an attempt at scoring a cheap political point.

Reacting to the report published by some newspapers on December 17 and credited to the state ACN Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, Deputy Governor Yomi Awoniyi said it was surprising that ACN could make such wild allegations against him, Wada and his administration.

He stressed that to declare that he had bought the Grand Mirage Hotel and other properties in Abuja was pedestrian and false.

Awoniyi said the allegation cast aspersions on his integrity and portrayed him as having light fingers.

According to him, the onus lies on his accuser to provide the proof of the allegations.

The deputy governor said he had not soiled his hands in any shady deal, adding that the funds for the flood victims were intact.

Awoniyi added that he had not acquired ill-gotten assets and wealth in the state or elsewhere.

  • Ladoja denies moves to join mega party

Former Oyo State Governor and leader of the Accord Senator Rashidi Ladoja has debunked rumours that he was leading his followers to join a mega party.

In a statement yesterday, the party’s spokesperson, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said Ladoja was not contemplating fusing with other parties to form a mega party.

Oyelade said although the former governor met with some prominent national leaders in his house last Sunday, the discussion centred on the possibility of like-minds joining the Accord.

He urged Governor Abiola Ajimobi to implement the educational dream of the late Chief Lam Adesina, instead of establishing a foundation.

An Accord source said the party was restructuring for future elections

  • NSC denies collecting N400m for EKO 2012

NSC denies collecting N400m for EKO 2012

The National Sports Commission, NSC has vehemently denied the claim by the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports Geoffrey Gaya that the body had collected a staggering N400 million for the staging of the National Sports Festival.

The Director-General of the NSC Dr. Patrick Ekeji said: “The claim by Honourable Gaya that we had collected N400 million for the festival is not only fictitious, but mischievous and misleading. I don’t know where he got this wrong information from. But to the best of my knowledge, the NSC has not gotten any money for the festival. I challenge Gaya to come forward with evidence of where any money was released to the NSC for the sports festival.

“We have not been given any money for the festival. It’s unfair and unfortunate for Gaya to spread such misinformation about the NSC. We do not have any money for the sports festival. So, the statement credited to him, if it is true is unfounded and without substance. I am really disappointed that the honourable member could go to town with such fallacy.”

“We were together during the opening ceremony and he did not bother to confirm anything from me before going to town. I think this is an attempt to misrepresent the NSC, but this is most unfortunate.

“The truth of the matter is that the NSC has not received any money for the festival, so nobody should drag the NSC into any controversy. We have been running the things within the limit of available resources, but we frown at people who try to present fiction as fact. I challenge him to go public with facts and not fiction,” Ekeji concluded.

  • Wamakko denies flogging PHCN worker

The Sokoto State Government yesterday denied reports that Governor Aliyu Wamakko flogged some Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) workers.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor, Sani Umar, the government described as irresponsible the reaction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President Abdulwaheed Omar, on the alleged assault.

Omar had demanded a public apology from the governor for allegedly assaulting the Business Manager of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDC), Moses Osigwe, and two other officials following a power failure that occurred during a wedding ceremony in the governor’s village of Wamakko.

The NLC president reportedly threatened to “shut down” economic activities in the state by putting workers on a strike notice..

But the government denied the allegations.

It accused Omar of shielding the PHCN officials from “public scrutiny.”

The statement claimed that Osigwe had collected “N17million to restore electricity to Wamakko town but failed to do so”.

It added: “He (Omar) lied when he said electricity went off during a ceremony. Another lie he told was that the PHCN worker was flogged publicly to a coma. Where did the flogging take place and which hospital was he taken to be resuscitated?

“The NLC should not be used as a platform by some disgruntled persons to fight a personal war. We believe that the NLC president is being used by the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) to cover up their inherent misdemeanour.”

The government urged Omar to probe the incident to know the truth.

“It is important for the NLC to note that the governor owes nobody an apology. A fraud has been committed for which a management level staff of PHCN is culpable and must be addressed. No amount of blackmail will make us waiver in our determination to seek redress for the people of Sokoto State, who were subjected to unnecessary hardship and losses,” the statement added

  • Presidency denies report

The Presidency has denied the report that the Federal Government intends to nail corrupt governors.

According to the statement by the media aide to the Vice-President, Sani Umar, the report attributed to his boss was totally wrong.

The statement reads: “Our attention was drawn to a publication in some national newspapers where President Goodluck Jonathan was reported to have stated that the Federal Government will nail corrupt governors.

“The President, who was represented by the Vice-President at the book launch entitled: “Reforming the Unreformable” by the Minister of Finance, Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, never made any such statement referring to any governor.

“Rather the statement in question reads: On the governance level, we are going after those who commit economic crimes and corrupt practices with impunity”

“In the light of the foregoing therefore, we wish to draw the attention of the media who reported Mr. President’s statement inappropriately to address it properly and reflect the correct statement.

“This will set the records straight by not misleading the public and casting aspersions on governors who are our partners in progress in our transformation agenda.”

  • Yobo denies surgery rumours

    Yobo denies surgery rumours

Nigeria captain, Joseph Yobo has told Goal.com that he is not nursing a serious knee injury that requires surgery which would keep him out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

The Fenerbahce defender, angry at a recent news report on a football website, said it is mischievous for anybody to have concocted a story that he would be going under the surgeon’s knives because of a knee injury he copped while playing for his club. He disclosed that it was a minor swelling in the leg which has started going down.

“I can tell anybody that cares to listen that I don’t have a cruciate ligament injury that requires surgery of any kind. What happened is that I had a little problem on my knee which I am taking precautions on. But it doesn’t require surgery like it was reported in a local website. I only need to calm down for the swelling to come down,” said Yobo.

“I have a game on Monday which the orthomedic surgeon even said I can play if I want to. But I don’t want to rush back to play. I want to take my time before starting to play.

“Right now I am doing a lot of strength work and to hear that there is a report saying that I am not going to be fit for the Nations Cup is very sad. It is important to cross check facts and do a lot of investigations on very delicate issues like this than to come out with false reports. This is very sad.”

Yobo missed the crucial Afcon qualifier against Liberia a fortnight ago due to the strain and this has resulted in speculations about his future in the side preparing for the continental showpiece in January.

“I spoke with Coach Stephen Keshi last week after we qualified for the Nations Cup in Calabar and I told him point black I don’t need surgery and that surgery is definitely out of it. That was what we discussed and he was so happy about it. So I don’t really know where the news of surgery is coming from. I don’t want everybody concerned to be panicking for a minor case. This is just to correct the erroneous impression.

“I am using this medium that I am going to be back pretty soon and it is definitely not going to be long I can assure them,” said Yobo.
