SEC deploys over 50 mgt workers

Top management staff of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have been redeployed 48 hours after Arunma Oteh left office.

Scores of SEC employees were moved from their positions to new ones, while some considered to be close to the former Director-General were moved out of the headquarters to Lagos and other offices nationwide.

A source told The Nation that the redeployment exercise may be on for some time, saying that it is part of a strategic plan of the new helmsman to get optimal value from all employees.

“I can confirm to you that changes are being effected in the various departments. We heard that at least 50 people were moved today (yesterday). As it is, it is most certain that some other top management staff will still be moved within the next few days”, the source confirmed.

Oteh failed to get a tenure renewal for the top job of SEC and as such had to leave her office on Monday while the former Executive Commissioner, Operations, Alhaji Mounir Gwarzo, was appointed to act as DG.

The Acting DG has however assured staff of the SEC of a breath of “fresh air that will return the  commission to its traditional core values experienced a decade ago.”

Gwarzo spoke during the staff party organised by SEC. He spoke about rebranding the Commission because “the SEC suffered battered image in the past due to abuse of rights of its officials.”

  • LAGBUS deploys 40 buses on three new routes

To meet the growing demand for its services, LAGBUS has added 40 new buses to its fleet through franchise agreement.

Managing Director of LAGBUS Asset Management Ltd, Babatunde Disu made this known, over the weekend, at the launch of 30 buses at the organisation’s Mile 2 Terminus.

He unveiled three new routes on which the buses would be deployed.

The buses would be operated by Transmodal Nigeria Limited (TNL) and Lagos Integrated Cooperative Society (LASITCOS).

Twenty of the buses, which will be operated by TNL will ply route No 203, Agbara-Okokomaiko-Mile 2; the other 10 buses will operate on route 105, Abesan-Ikotun-Cele Express-Mile 2.

Disu said the creation of routes would serve commuters on that axis, adding that 10 buses were earlier acquired to ply the CMS-Ajah axis.

Disu said LAGBUS management is developing better ways of serving the public to cushion the effect of traffic law restricting the operation of commercial motorcyclists, adding that more routes would soon be introduced with more buses to cater for the growing demand for LAGBUS service.

He said:”This is a continuous improvement. We will try as much as possible to get the service to more routes so that more people will benefit from our services. We will improve in areas where we have been operating.”

On efforts to curtail indiscriminate parking by LAGBUS drivers, Disu said management would soon address that problem.

“We embark on regular monitoring of the buses and each time we see drivers dropping passengers at unauthorised bus stops, we correct them and hand them over to their captains for disciplinary action”
