    Radda chairs PPP capacity workshop for Katsina executive council

    Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State on Saturday chaired a one-day capacity-building workshop on Public–Private Partnerships (PPP) for members of the State Executive Council.

    The workshop, organised by the Katsina State Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), was aimed at strengthening policy-level understanding and leadership oversight of PPPs as a strategic tool for infrastructure development, improved service delivery and sustainable economic growth in the state.

    Declaring the workshop open, Radda said PPPs have become an essential instrument for governments seeking to bridge infrastructure gaps while ensuring fiscal discipline and value for money.

    He urged members of the Executive Council to fully understand and internalise the principles, processes and governance requirements of PPP arrangements in order to deliver tangible benefits to the people of the state.

    According to him, the workshop builds on reforms already undertaken by the state government to institutionalise PPPs.

    The governor highlighted the creation of a dedicated PPP portal to enhance transparency and investor engagement, as well as provisions in the current state budget for PPP project preparation and facilitation. He said the measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to moving from policy formulation to implementation.

    In his welcome address, the Director-General of KIPA, Alhaji Ibrahim Jikamshi, said the workshop forms part of a structured capacity-building programme designed to deepen knowledge of PPP frameworks among top government officials.

    Jikamshi recalled that the agency organised both an appreciation workshop and an intermediary-level workshop in the previous year for officers of key ministries, departments and agencies across the state. He said the sessions were aimed at building foundational understanding of PPP concepts and processes.

    He added that members of the State Executive Council–led PPP Project Facilitation Committee would participate in a follow-up workshop focused on the governance and management structure of the Project Facilitation Fund.

    According to him, the next phase is expected to strengthen coordination, oversight and leadership in managing resources for PPP project development in the state.

    Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, has described bursary awards and scholarship schemes as critical tools for supporting students at various levels of education and as sustainable pillars for growth and development in the education sector.

    Radda made the declaration at the Katsina State Scholarship Board while officially flagging off the disbursement of the 2024/2025 bursary and awards programme, describing the exercise as another milestone in the state’s commitment to educational advancement.

    The governor reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to invest in education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and human capital growth, noting that bursary, scholarship and award schemes were designed to ease the financial burden on students and their families, while promoting academic excellence across the state.

    Earlier, the Chairperson of the Katsina State Scholarship Board, Hajiya Mairo Muhammad, expressed appreciation to the state government for its consistent support to the board. 

    She described the programme as a clear demonstration of Governor Radda’s commitment to building the future through inclusive and quality education.

    Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Aminu Salisu Tsauri, outlined the various interventions being implemented to support students at different levels. 

    He said the 2024/2025 exercise covers bursary allowances, scholarships for students with special needs, awards for academic excellence and other targeted educational support initiatives.

    The Commissioner for Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, Adanan Nahabu Daura, commended the board for its transparent and people-oriented approach, urging beneficiaries to justify the government’s investment by remaining focused on their studies and contributing positively to society.

    The Nation recalled that Governor Radda had approved the release of ₦677,572,815 for the payment of bursary allowances, academic excellence awards and special needs scholarships to Katsina students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Of the total amount, ₦283,521,639 was disbursed as bursary allowances to newly admitted Katsina students nationwide.

    Since assuming office, Radda has prioritised education through sustained investments in scholarship and bursary programmes. Previous disbursements include ₦637,924,516 for 47,935 students in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions, ₦544,207,748 for 37,802 students in the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 sessions, ₦744,102,352 for 50,438 students in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 sessions, and ₦372,051,176 for 2024/2025 continuing students.

    With these interventions, Katsina State’s total investment in student support has reached about ₦2.6 billion, benefiting tens of thousands of students and reinforcing the administration’s Building Your Future Agenda, which places human capital development at the centre of governance.

    He said ‘’the many laudable achievements of this administration in just two years  has shown  that he not only prioritized the security of lives and properties, but has also spearheaded infrastructural and agricultural developments across the length and breadth of Katsina State, thus surpassing expectations in many sectors’’

    ‘’Katsina is the first state the President officially visited since assuming office, a strong indication of its importance in the national agenda’’.

    “As a result of that visit, Katsina State was able to formally present some long-neglected grievances and secure Presidential commitments on critical development projects.’’

    “The governor has shown time and again that the people of Katsina are his foremost priority.”

    Society for Family Health, SFH, donates medical equipment to Katsina health ministry

    The Society for Family Health, SFH, yesterday in Katsina donated several medical equipment, consisting of, 500 pieces of family planning register,500 monthly summary form and 12,000 pieces of clients ‘cards, to the Katsina State Ministry of Health

    The Executive Secretary, Katsina State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Dr Jamilu Abdulsalam Charanci, has exonerated Governor Dikko Umar Radda’s administration in the past two years in Katsina State, as corrupt free

    Charanci who made the declaration at a public lecture organized by katsina based ‘’Citizens Participation Against Corruption: ‘’one day symposium to mark the two years of Dikko Radda’s administration’’, said investigations carried out by the commission on the various key sectors of katsina state’s economy in the past two years, has given the governor a clean bill of health

    He further outlined the key areas investigated to include: Recovery of Mis-appropriated public funds, ongoing Investigations across MDAs, recovery of diverted agricultural materials, resolution of public complaints, hosting of International anti-corruption day and, strengthening of Institutional partnerships and reforms.

    Also during his lecture presentation, a director at the Katsina State Revenue Board, Dr Kabir Abdullah Yantumaki, in his presentation on revenue generation and utilization in the two year administration of Dikko Radda’s administration, said the present government in power at the state level has laid a strong foundation for the economic growth and development of the state

    Banditry: Katsina lauds successful military operations which neutralised Bandits camps

    The Katsina State Government has commended the Nigerian Air Force and a coalition of security agencies for their significant victories against criminal elements and bandits terrorizing communities in the state through precision airstrikes and ground operations that destroyed notorious bandit hideouts and neutralized several armed criminals.

    A Press release which was signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Kaula Nuhammad, further listed some of the significant strides that were recorded to include: the Air Component Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, which executed successful strikes against identified bandit enclaves at Sanusi Dutsinma and Sanusi Iku, all within the Matallawa Hills in Kankara Local Government Area.

    He said ‘’these operations, based on credible intelligence gathered through human and electronic sources, completely obliterated the criminal camps. Several bandits died in the strikes, while six injured criminals fled away’’.

    “The Air Component responded swiftly to a distress call from Kankara LGA after bandits ambushed Nigerian Police personnel conducting clearance operations behind Science Secondary School, Kankara.”

    “The criminals, led by notorious kingpin BABARU, attacked a Police Armored Personnel Carrier, killing one police inspector and injuring another officer’’.

    “Nigerian Air Force fighter jets immediately deployed to the area, successfully neutralized the bandits operating on motorcycles.”

    “Additional strikes also targeted criminals attempting to escape by hiding within rustled cattle herds and dense riverside vegetation, significantly disrupting their movement and operations’’.

    ‘’The Katsina State Government remains resolute and committed to restoring peace and security through enhanced collaboration with all security agencies operating in our state.”

    Katsina rewards three outstanding female corps members with N3m, charge their male counterparts on creativity.

    The Katsina State Government yesterday rewarded 3 outstanding female Youth Corps members who distinguished themselves in humanitarian activities during their 2024 batch A service year community service, with N1m each .

    Meanwhile, the State government have also charged male youth corps members serving in the state to emulate their female counterparts by displaying uttermost creativity and hard work during their service years Investigation by The Nation revealed that the rewarded corps members had during their service year executed community oriented projects that benefitted the people of their host communities to the extent that one of the Corps members was even given a chieftaincy title (Sarauniya Bautar Kasan Kaita Na daya) in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State.

    Presenting the award on behalf of the Governor of Katsina State, Umaru Dikko Rada, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Aliyu Lawal, said the award was aimed at encouraging other Corps members to put in their best in the grassroots’ development of their host communities.

    The Corps members that were awarded include: Nafisa Umar Hassan KT/24A/1178, Hafsat Abdulhamid Abdulsalam KT/24A/0255, Blessing Ene Ameh KT/24A/0277. Radda further declared that henceforth, the award for the best three Corps members would be sustained by the Katsina State Government and urged the Corps members especially the male counterparts who usually don’t show much interest in community development service to begin to do so

    He also disclosed that the state was also working towards giving outstanding corps members an automatic employment in the state civil service.

    Katsina trains 955 Out-of-School Girls on creative skills

    The katsina state Government has announced the training of 955 out-of-school adolescent girls who have graduated from the State skills acquisition centres.

    Hajiya Jamila Abdu Mani, Special Adviser on Girl Child Education and Child Development, who announced the above achievement recorded by her agency stated that the centre has expanded from 4 to 9 locations in 2024, targeting 1,000 trainees statewide.

    The centres were located in Katsina, Kaita, Baure, and Funtua, with additional locations added due to overwhelming demand.

    Jamila further noted that the Governor’s administration has implemented wide-ranging programs addressing various aspects of child welfare and development:

     She said “The Katsina Orphanage Home received comprehensive improvements including specialized medical teams with pediatricians and nutritionists. All children were enrolled in the State’s Social Health Insurance Scheme for continuous healthcare access’’.

    “The Governor also personally intervened in the case of a baby girl born with four legs in Bujawa, Mani LGA, ensuring she received successful corrective surgery at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina’’.

    “The establishment of the NASIHA Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) has provided medical, psychosocial, and legal support for survivors. The center operates with a full clinical team including nurses and obstetrician/gynecologists, partnering with the Association of Female Medical Doctors,”.

    Katsina set to combat gender-based violence

    Katsina State Government has taken decisive action against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) following a two-day stakeholder workshop that brought together key players from across the justice system, civil society, and traditional institutions.

    The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajia Hadiza Yar’adua, who made the above disclosure, said the workshop was organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs, in collaboration with the World Bank, to develop a coordinated approach to preventing and responding to GBV across the state.

    She said “The workshop brought together key stakeholders from the justice system, HISBAH, NAPTIN, civil society organizations, and religious and traditional institutions,”

    “Comprehensive strategy emerging from the workshop includes expanding survivor support services, reactivating a 24/7 GBV hotline, and training women, including those with disabilities’’.

     “Participants also agreed on the critical need to simplify and translate the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law into local languages for better public accessibility.”

    “We also agreed on the need to simplify and translate the VAPP Law to make it more accessible to the public. The strong support and active engagement of our traditional and religious leaders remain central to creating lasting change at the grassroots,”

    The katsina state government in collaboration with 9jaFood Fiesta Empowerment Program, Office of the First Lady and the Ministry of Women Affairs, has targeted 2500 beneficiaries across agriculture, culinary arts, fashion, and ICT sectors through empowerment programs.

    The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua, who served as Chief Host, described the initiative as “a beacon of hope, a catalyst for transformation, and a celebration of potential.”

    She further stated that the program aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s “Building Your Future” development blueprint, which creates sustainable platforms for youth, women, and persons with disabilities to thrive economically.

    She said: “This is more than training; it is an investment in people, in purpose, and in progress. These are lifelines, wings, and keys to independence, dignity, and economic freedom for our beneficiaries,” Commissioner Hadiza stated. “To every participant, your dreams matter, and your future is worth investing in,”

    Also speaking, the Program Coordinator and Founder, Alhaji Muhammed Mustapha, outlined the comprehensive scope and strategy of the empowerment scheme, stating its focus on practical, income-generating skills, adding that the initiative is about rewriting the narrative for 2,500 people across Katsina State.

    Katsina Governor Dikko Umar Radda has declared his administration’s preparedness to prioritise technical and vocational education in the state as solution to youth unemployment 

    Radda, who made the above declaration during the 2nd convocation ceremony of Federal Polytechnic Daura, also promised to upgrade Katsina Youth Craft Village,KYCV and  establish additional 10 skills acquisition centres 

    The Governor also emphasised the importance of practical hands-on learning that directly align with the needs of industries and businesses. 

    He said: “Our approach ensures that individuals are not only prepared for the demands of the job market but are also empowered to contribute meaningfully to economic growth and development.

    ” By integrating theoretical knowledge with real-world application, we are cultivating a workforce that is both competent and adaptable. 

    “We have made a firm commitment to prioritise technical and vocational education in our secondary schools. 

    “We are taking significant steps to rebuild, modernize, and expand skill acquisition across the state, including the upgrade of the Youth Craft Village and the establishment of 10 additional skill acquisition centres.

    Radda also announced securing “a permanent site for the newly established Federal University of Health Sciences in Funtua, which he described as a testament to a commitment to advancing higher education in Katsina State.

    Rector of Federal Polytechnic Daura, Professor Aliyu Mamman praised  Governor Radda’s presence and leadership style, describing his unscheduled visits and hands-on engagements even during casual moments in his office as reflective of a leader truly connected to his people.

    Katsina Governor Dikko Umar Radda said Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) and allied bodies must constantly engage in training and re-training to contribute their quota in the overall security and development of the people 

    Radda, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of Katsina State,Adullahi Garba Faskari, spoke at a three-day capacity building workshop for Hisbah personnel organised by the State Government in collaboration with the Katsina State Police Command.

    The Governor also emphasised the importance of security in society and noted that various organizations are responsible for maintaining security.

    He encouraged participants to actively engage in the training and apply the knowledge gained for the benefit of the state.

    He also expressed gratitude to all security agencies for their efforts in improving security in Katsina State.

    Katsina Commissioner of Police, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Lawal Aliyu, appreciated the Katsina State Government for establishing the Hisbah Board and expressed hope that the workshop would be beneficial to both Hisbah personnel and the citizens of the state.

    He outlined some of the objectives and tasks of Hisbah personnel and urged participants to pay close attention to the training sessions.

    Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, highlighted the significance of the workshop in fostering moral discipline and strengthening security in the state.

    He stressed that security is a collective responsibility and that equipping Hisbah personnel with the necessary knowledge and skills would enhance their effectiveness.

    The State Commander of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Abu Ammar, described the initiative as a testament to the Katsina State Government’s commitment to ensuring that Hisbah operates efficiently.

    The United Kingdom Foreign and CommonWealth Development Office in Nigeria through its programme, strengthening peace and resilience, has organised a four-day training workshop for traditional rulers on conflict resolution and mediation

    Declaring the training open, Katsina Governor, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abdullahi Faskari, highlighted the role of the traditional rulers on peace resolution which he said cannot be overstretched.

    He said:“We all know that peace is fundamental and significant for socio-economic development in the society and without peace, nothing can be achieved.

    ”Any attempt  to.strengthen the issue of having peace in the society is very significant and important for all of us,as these traditional rulers were the closest to the people and everything starts from there.

    “This is surely inherent in their own activities from time immemorial for them to settle people for peaceful coexistence.so attempts to bring about modernisation, new ideas, ways and knowledge that will improve their activities, I think is a welcome development”.

    Radda further added that bringing peace in Nigeria is the sole responsibility of everyone and that It is a religious duty for everyone and whoever comes to assist on this regard

    Underscoring the importance of the training in Katsina State, the team lead, SPRiNG programme, Dr. Ukoha Ukiwo, noted that considering the laudable contribution of the Nigerian government in maintaining peace especially in Africa, the UK government has indicated interest to promote efforts to restore peace and establish security.

    He said: “The interest in Nigeria is because of its important role played especially in maintaining peace and security across Africa and there are concerns all over the world that if Nigeria is not stable, Africa will also be unstable”

    “Nigeria is very important to the world that is why the UK government is quite interested in supporting the effort of the Nigerian actors and institutions to address issues that affect peace and security in Nigeria.

    “All it has to do is to work with Nigerian stakeholders like you to ensure that we are better even to respond to issues around conflict, security, stability particularly that are also related to access to natural resources in a more peaceful way. 

    The Training Coordinator, Green Horizon, Prof Muhammed Tabiu, said the programme was aimed at equipping and strengthening the traditional rulers’ skills on mediation as well as basic knowledge of the justice system in Nigeria.

    He further added that Katsina State and the rest of the North-West region of Nigeria have become even more important because of the destructions that were brought about by the criminality, banditry and terrorism and that traditional rulers are up to the task if they are equipped with relevant skills, techniques for maintaining law and order and conflict resolution. 

    He said: “The subject matter is mediation and conflict resolution aimed at sharpening the participant’s skills and to improve their capabilities to make peace, mediate between members of their communities as well as maintain law and order”.

    The participants were expected to be equipped with the basic knowledge of the justice system in Nigeria in order to build their confidence especially when interacting with law enforcement agents during conflict resolution ,mediation and family disputes.

    Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has urged members of the Katsina Golf Club to use professional golf tournaments to showcase and promote the state. 

    Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony for the 2024 Governor’s Golf Cup, Radda commended the club for the invitation and highlighted his administration’s commitment to sports development. He noted that substantial budgetary allocations have been directed toward sports to foster growth and engagement. 

    The governor stated: “My administration has promoted football development, including efforts to elevate the Katsina football club to a top-tier position in Nigeria’s premier league and the construction of stadiums in Charanchi and Daura.” 

    Governor Radda also encouraged golfers to uphold excellence and sportsmanship, create opportunities, and unite stakeholders to build a conducive environment for sports development in the state.

    Justice Sadiq Mahuta, the club captain, applauded the participants and emphasized that golf fosters relationships and encourages success. He also highlighted Katsina’s improved security, which has made it easier for people to travel to and from the state.

    The winners of the tournament include Gidado Aliyu from Katsina Golf Club: Best Gross, Salmanu Dalhatu from Katsina Club: Best Nett, Jamila Abdullah from Katsina Club: the Ladies category, Ibrahim Abdullahi also won Runner Best Nett, Bashir Adamu from Kano club won in Third category.

    Winners also emerge in veteran and super veteran categories including Sani Labo from Katsina Club: the veterans, while Justice Sadik A Mahuta Galadiman Katsina, Former Deputy Governor Tukur Jikamshi, Senator M T Liman, Arch Mansur Ahmad Kurfi Dan Darman Katsina Alhaji Lawal Sada all slugged it out in the super veterans’ category.

    NYSC lauds Radda over adequate security for corps members in Katsina

    The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has praised Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda, for enhancing infrastructure, improving working conditions, and ensuring adequate security for corps members serving in the state.

    Alhaji Ibrahim Saidu, the NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, made this commendation while addressing 774 corps members who successfully completed their service and received their discharge certificates. 

    He highlighted the state government’s hospitality and commitment to providing a safe environment for corps members.

    “The situation has greatly improved with better hospitality and infrastructure throughout the service year,” Saidu noted. 

    He also extended appreciation to traditional rulers, including the Emirs of Katsina and Daura, for their peaceful accommodation and support for the corps members.

    He acknowledged that not all who started the service year made it to the end and called for a moment of silence for one member who lost her life during the period.

    The Coordinator advised the outgoing corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC and to utilize the skills gained during the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program to engage in trades as they transition out of service.

    Regarding the anticipated allowance increase, he urged the corps members to remain patient, assuring them that the government would fulfill its promise in due time.

    Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has vowed to play a pivotal role in combating malnutrition in Northern Nigeria.

    Speaking at a high-level dialogue on malnutrition held at the Lagos-Osun Hall, Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, hosted by the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, Radda emphasized his commitment to the welfare of the people of Katsina State.

    Radda expressed deep concern over the alarming statistic of over 10 million children suffering from acute malnutrition in Northern Nigeria.

    He underscored the urgency of addressing this crisis, particularly in Katsina State, and called for immediate action to remedy the situation.

    The governor’s pledge to tackle malnutrition highlighted his dedication to improving the health and well-being of the region’s children and underscored the need for collaborative efforts to address this critical issue.

    He said: “The magnitude of this crisis demands our immediate and sustained attention. In Katsina, we are witnessing firsthand the devastating effects of malnutrition on our children and families. It is our responsibility to act swiftly and decisively.”

    The event brought together key stakeholders, including the Governors of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal; Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago; Deputy Governor of Kebbi State; Minister of Health, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; and Mrs Sughra Mahmood, Director of Nutrition, representing the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.

    The governor further joined in the advocacy for a shift in federal allocations to the Northwest and North Central regions currently grappling with increased insecurity and heightened vulnerability to malnutrition.

    He assured of paying the state’s counterpart funds where necessary and expressed Katsina’s openness to partnership and collaborations to address these issues.

    He said: “We in Katsina State are ready to lead by example, we are prepared to allocate resources, implement policies, and work hand-in-hand with development partners to tackle this crisis head-on.”

     “Let this be the beginning of a concerted effort to end malnutrition in our region. Katsina State stands ready to collaborate, innovate, and lead in this crucial fight for our children’s future.”

    The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Audi, has met with the Governor of Katsina state, Dr Dikko Umar Radda on possible deployment of more personnel of the Corps to areas troubled by bandits and kidnappers in the state.

    Governor Radda, who visited the headquarters of the Corps in Abuja, said there is urgent need for reinforcements of more security personnel in the state considering the levels of threats to peace and security by the activities of bandits and kidnappers.

    The governor, who praised the leadership of the Corps for its steadfastness and commitment to ensure peace and tranquillity, said his visit was aimed at solidifying the existing cordial relationship between the state and the NSCDC.

    He lamented the inadequate number of personnel across security services which have impeded the expected success in the fight against insecurity.

    He explained that the state has trained and engaged the service of about 1,500 indigenes to assist the conventional security agencies in the state.

    “I believe with the engagement of the locals in the form of civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), combined with the conventional security, we will go a long way in combating insecurity and reduce it to the barest minimum,” Governor Radda said.

    Commandant-General assured the Governor of the Corps’ commitment to curbing insecurity by employing both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches to achieving results.

    “I understand that Katsina State has experienced some bandit attacks in the last couple of years.  Its vulnerability which is partly due to its big size and geographical location as a state bordering other states in the North and the Niger Republic is of great concern. But be rest assured that with the on-going recruitment in the Corps, more men would be deployed to Katsina to strengthen security in the state,” Dr Audi asserted.
