Adeleke: Doguwa apologises to Osun APC, says I’ll never demarket the people’s party

Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has apologised to the Osun chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying he is the chief promoter of the party.

The party had, via a statement by the Osun APC spokesperson, Mr Kola Olabisi, on Monday accused Doguwa of demarketing the party with his utterances at this year’s Ede Day celebrations.

Doguwa, who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, represented the Speaker, Tajudeen Abass, at the event last Saturday in Ede, where his statement was twisted to demarket the APC in the state.

In his swift reaction, Doguwa said he remains the chief promoter of the All Progressives Congress in all parts of the country as a founding party member.

He said the media team of the PDP in Osun State deliberately quoted him out of context, but that will not stop APC from reclaiming the state in the 2026 governorship election.

” I was quoted out of context. Honestly, the PDP media team in Osun misused my jokes to attack our party, APC, in the context of their local political tussles. It was indeed quite unfortunate; they used my innocent comments to score cheap political gains,” he said.

Apologising to the party in Osun State, he said: ” I wish to tender my sincere and unreserved apology to our APC family in Osun State. Please accept my profound and heartfelt apologies. By God’s grace, the days of the PDP are numbered in Osun State. In 2026, our party will bounce back in the state, Insha Allah.

” I will always remain a loyal and proud member of the APC, the largest political party in Africa. As a founding member of the APC, I’m the chief promoter of the party not only in Kano but across the country.

” I urge my APC compatriots in Osun to accept my apologies for what may have appeared to be underlying comments or statements against my party. I never meant to undermine or embarrass my mother’s party for any reason whatsoever. Thank you.”

  • We need expert collaboration for effective lawmaking, says Doguwa

We need expert collaboration for effective lawmaking, says Doguwa

Former leader of the House of Representatives and leader of the Northern Caucus, Alhassan Ado Doguwa (APC, Kano), has said that the process of lawmaking in the country requires a lot of inputs from men and women with legal background to remove several controversies associated with laws after their passage.

Doguwa, who spoke at a meeting with members of the Kano chapter of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), said it was important to always have professional advice and inputs from lawyers to help them in their Constitutional duty of making laws for the country.

He said despite their experience as members of the National Assembly whose primary responsibility is making laws, there is a gap which only a close working relationship with lawyers can fill to make their work more easier.

He said: “Those of us that are here, we are called lawmakers. But while we are making laws, definitely we will expect fine and brilliant brains like you to be helping us with some impudence. That is all.

“At all levels of legislation, we have a very critical point or window that we call public hearing. Apart from public hearing, members of the House also do have their constituency offices in their respective local governments.

“There are several other windows through which you can reach out to your representatives as professionals, especially legal professionals, and you will have a lot to contribute to our performance here as members representing the greater and the larger canon that we are representing in the House of Representatives.

“When we have brains like you as experts and professionals in the legal sector of society that interfaces and also collaborates with the members of the Parliament, our critical duty and responsibility of lawmaking could be made to perfection.

“I have been in the House of Representatives for the past 34 years. I have been elected day in, day in, day out six times to the House of Representatives. But that does not make me the best of legislators.

“He could have his own areas of excellence and performance, but there is that gap in us, and it is that gap of legal background that will expect men and women of your own profession to help us come and fill that gap.

“Today, you have come at a very coincidental period, a very incidental period, when the constitutional review process in the National Assembly is ongoing. So, we will expect you to start to use the opportunity from there.

“I do this with all sense of humility and respect for the profession, but I charge you people to also promptly interface and continue to collaborate with this caucus by way of giving us some of your insight, how you look at some of the legislations. The PIB, for instance, which has now been passed into law in 2021, is now subject of a lot of contemplations and controversy. Look at the PIA.

“Where do you think we have gaps? Where do you think we’ll have to come and make contributions? Virtually all that you have in the body of the laws of the Federation, they are viewable. They are not cast on stones. So it is only on the basis of some of this kind of contribution that you give to us that we can be able to also make a contribution”.

Chairperson, FIDA in Kano State, Bar. Bilkisu Suleman informed the lawmakers that, FIDA is an international body of professional lawyers and legal professionals who offer free legal services to less privileged, other support services and advocacy.

She said: “All of us that are into FIDA will have our primary responsibilities, but we allocate some time within a week, within a month that we dedicate our services for the promotion of the rights of women and children. So, I want everybody to understand that we are not charging for whatever services we are doing.

“We are paying advocacy visits to ensure that legal issues or access to justice is promoted in our society. We are following up on cases of maybe interpretation of laws or application of laws that will promote and preserve the right of women and children. We are rendering legal services that is in the courts or mediation or even sensitization throughout in our constituents.

“For example, we have branches, we have members all over. Whenever issues come, we go to, even last week, we have a case in, after we did a lot of promoting the name of the village, I sent a lawyer there.

“Whenever a case come, we send our members to go and handle cases. Just I was sitting here, there was a case that somebody called me, we need to send somebody to a village. So it’s not only metropolitan that we handle cases.

“We render mediations because normally when you know, our issues we are handling are very sensitive. Issue of women, children, father, wife, husband, is not something that is supposed to be handled in the court because whoever win is moving. There will be some kind of discomfort between the parties.

“So even if the case is before the court, we seek the indulgence of the court to permit us to bring the case back to our office and mediate so that there will be peace in the family. There will be peace and tranquility. This is what we are doing.

“You know our society, things are very, very complicated, especially in terms of issue of this poverty that is aggravating our society. And we all understand that each and every one of you is doing all his best to ensure that he renders his primary assignment and promotes the general welfare of the society. Our words cannot be undermined in thanking you and appreciating your effort and praying for you to improve more.”

According to him, he stands tall in the Kano state political space as the only member elected under the platform of the APC in the whole of Kano South Senatorial District.

Doguwa said that he is the only major threat to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) government in Kano state and to the National Leader of the party, Sen. Rabiu kwankwaso.

He said that the NNPP government in Kano state had performed below expectation as it had done little to develop the economic and social wellbeing of the people of Kano state.

Doguwa refuted his colleague, Rep. Abdulmumin Jibrin (NNPC-Kano state), allegation that described him as “an obstacle to peace in Kano state and a liability to the APC”.

Doguwa, who is also the Chairman, Northern Regional Caucus of the 10th House of Representatives, said he will always prefer peace in the state over his political ambition.

“My peaceful nature and attitude can best be confirmed by my religious and mutual relationship with my constituents, and the traditional rulers.

I’m the biggest threat to Kano NNPP, Doguwa tells Jibrin

The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Alhassan Doguwa, has punctured claims by Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa (NNPP, Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency), that he is a threat to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Kano State.

Jibrin had, in reply to Doguwa’s statement, challenged him to respond to the allegations of the killing of seven innocent persons dangling over him when he (Jibrin) purportedly led a group of thugs to attack the former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during 2019 campaigns, said Doguwa is a threat to APC and President Tinubu in Kano State.

Reacting, Doguwa, in a statement on Sunday, August 11, said, like a thief in the night, Jibrin shied away from responding to allegations of the killing of seven persons during the campaign for the 2019 general elections.

The police arrested Jibrin alongside 70 suspects who perpetrated the crime.

“I’m not a political liability in Kano; instead, as you know, I’m an asset, a source of pride and a goldmine to the APC both in the state and the country.

“Today, I stand tall in the Kano’s political landscape to be the only member legitimately elected under the platform of the ruling APC in the whole Kano South Senatorial District. Despite all odds, I returned to the House of Representatives with flying colours.

“Yes, I’m the only big threat to the erratic NNPP government and the self-acclaimed national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso (of course, my political mate and a colleague in the 3rd Republic at the House of Representatives),” he said.

He talked about the failure of the NNPP government in Kano State, noting that the party is performing woefully in Kano.

“NNPP is doing nothing to develop the economic and social well-being of our people and the state. Instead, they ended up chasing shadows and playing the politics of vendetta and vengeance, unfortunately,” he said.

He appealed to the leadership of the APC to appoint him as the coordinator and director-general of the campaigns of the party in Kano, saying he would deliver the state, Insha Allah, before noon on Election Day.

“I want to use this opportunity to respectfully request the leadership of our great party, APC, to graciously allow me to coordinate and serve as a Director General of the Kano State APC Campaign project in 2027, I vouch to deliver APC Gubernatorial and Presidential results before 12 noon (Insha Allah),” he said.

He added that he has never been found wanting in the parliament.

“I have never been found to be a traitor, mischievous, or disloyal to any of my principals. I have always served and discharged my legislative duties with due diligence, humility, honesty, dedication, and utmost respect for my colleagues and principals. I was never suspended or found wanting for the over 33 years of my work as a member of the House of Representatives.

“Today, with all humility, I’m the longest-serving member in the country. And by the grace of Allah and the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives under Abbas Tajudeen.

“My peaceful nature and attitude can best be confirmed by my mutual relationship with my constituents, the traditional rulers, clerics, and above all, my timely support to the different security agents: police, the military, Civil Defence, and the local vigilante group whom I support in many ways,” he said.

Reps member Doguwa to Jibrin: expose my secret

The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has dared his colleague, and member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency) of Kano State, Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin to drop a bombshell against him.

Abdulmumini a member of the had New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) had threatened to make some revelations about Doguwa, who represents Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, hat will lead to his expulsion from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin threatened that he would do so if Doguwa does not refrain from attacking the former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Doguwa in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, August 6, challenged Jibrin to drop “the so-called bombshell”.

He said he remains a bonafide, committed and founding member of the APC, which he described as the largest political party in Africa.

“I challenge Abdulmumini Jibrin to drop any bombshell he has against me. I dare him not to spare or keep secret whatever he knows about my political conviction and or commitment to my party, the APC. I remain a loyal and sincere member of the ruling APC.

“I also believe and have faithful confidence in the leadership of our party. I admire and believe in the governmental policies and programs of our party. I am not a cowardly politician and cannot be intimidated or blackmailed by sweeping accusations or phantom threats,” he said.

Doguwa, the leader of the Northern Regional Caucus in the House of Representatives, said his steadfast commitment to the APC can be confirmed and verified by the outcome of the last general elections in his domain.

” I won all the elections in my federal constituency, including the presidential election, where President Bola Ahmed Tinubu defeated Kwankwaso in my home LGA (Doguwa), and I won my election for the 7th time. I also delivered my two state assembly members to the APC, a rare performance in the last election in Kano State.

“My federal constituency remains unarguably APC controlled despite the so-called “political tsunami” during the 2023 general elections,” he said.

Puncturing Abdulmumini’s claims, Doguwa said he has won elections four times without Kwankwaso, the latest being the 2023 general elections.

“I have, by the grace of Allah, won my elections to the House of Representatives four consecutive times without Kwankwaso. And with Allah SWT, I don’t need him to win my future elections.

” I am not a dependent or a political parasite like Abdulmumini, who cannot win an election without someone around him. He had always relied on the political structure of others to win elections.

“That was why in 2019 when the courts ordered a rerun election in his (Abdulmumini) constituency like mine, he could not return to the House of Representatives because he had nobody around him.

“He stood solo and lost out while I won my rerun election by Allah’s grace,” Doguwa said.

He said: “I have been in the House of Representatives since Jibrin was in school. I, therefore, expect him to respect me the way he wants me to respect his godfather, Kwankwaso.

“That Hon. Jibrin was never my mate and cannot match my sterling legislative experience, which dwarfs his in all forms.”

Doguwa, also urged Kwankwaso to respect other leaders and stop inciting youths into taking the law into their own hands.

He recalled a viral video where Kwankwaso abused APC leaders in Kano state, calling them “Banzaye” (stupid people).

“It was based on that; I responded by calling him to order,” Doguwa said.

“I won elections to the House of Representatives seven times – polls starting from July 1992 when Professor Humphrey Nwosu was the chief electoral umpire.

“My constituents, by the Grace of Allah SWT, have continued to vote for me overwhelmingly to represent them, and by His grace, I have not disappointed them, and I won’t, Insha Allah.”

Ado-Doguwa said this while addressing a forum of former All Progressives Congress (APC) Council Chairmen in Kano State who paid him a courtesy visit on Saturday in his home.

He also encouraged autonomy of local government councils autonomy saying it is a laudable development, especially if INEC would be allowed to conduct impartial area councils elections just like they conduct general elections.

His words, “Governors should also be held accountable to the economic challenges we are facing in the Country, because they are receiving substantial amount of resources in the name of monthly grants but only a few of them are using such resources judiciously and for the purpose they were provide for.

“It’s not about the federal Government alone. Tinubu is but a president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are running a constitutional democracy with federating units that must also be held accountable too.

“Then last component was about local government area councils autonomy is a laudable development democratically in our country Nigeria. Especially if INEC would be allowed to conduct impartial area councils elections just like they conduct general elections.

“State electoral Commissions are mere extension of the party offices that control their respective states. They operate by simply sharing elective offices to members of their ruling parties in their respective states.

“I therefore wish to respectfully urge my colleagues, Members of the 10th Nass to help save Nigeria by effectively reviewing our electoral laws and guidelines to allow INEC take over the conduct of the local councils.”
