    House of Reps aspirant fecilitates Muslims on Eid-el-Kabir

    A Federal House of Representatives aspirant for Oriade-Obokun federal constituency Ademola Agoro has greeted Muslims on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

    He called on Muslim faithful to use the festival to promote unity, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and spirit of sacrifice.

    According to a statement by Agoro, the country could only fulfill its great potentials as a nation if the citizens continued to foster unity, peace, security and stability as well as show greater respect and love for one another.

    Agoro, the founder, Ademola Isaac Agoro Engineering Empowerment Foundation, extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to people of Oriade-Obokun Federal constituency.

    He said: “May this season of sacrifice and reflection bring peace, prosperity and divine blessings to all families, across our communities.”

    Agoro asked sustained prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and all other leaders at the helm of affair and reaffirm his unwaivering support to the President.

    He commended the bold and inclusive vision the President is laying it’s foundation for a more secure, economically vibrant and youth driven Nigeria.

    Agoro urged all sons and daughters of Oriade, Obokun to continue to support the administration in the collective journey towards national transformation.

    He announced  the Ademola Isaac Agoro Engineering Foundation will be launching a Youth Empowerment programme on Data Analytics across Oriade Obokun federal constituency.

    He added that the initiative will equip young people with cutting-edge digital skills required to to thrive in today’s technology -driven economy.

    Eid-el-Kabir: Northern CAN felicitates Muslims, calls for unity, inclusion

    The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has extended warm greetings and heartfelt felicitations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

    In a statement signed by its Chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam, the association described the Eid as a sacred period for spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and renewed commitment to values that strengthen the nation’s unity.

    “This sacred occasion is a time for spiritual reflection, sacrifice, and renewed commitment to the values that unite us as a people. It is also a call for all Nigerians to embrace the spirit of selflessness, compassion, and solidarity, especially in these challenging times,” the statement read.

    Northern CAN then urged Nigerians to continue building bridges of cooperation, mutual understanding, and peaceful coexistence as a foundation for national development.

    On the state of the nation, the group called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to listen to the yearnings of ordinary citizens and urgently address the deepening hardship, hunger, and poverty affecting many households.

    “It is troubling that many families could not afford to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir due to the soaring cost of living,” it said. “The price of a ram, ranging from N200,000 to as high as N1.8 million, is simply out of reach for most ordinary Nigerians.”

    Eid-el-Kabir: Delta Muslim Pilgrims pray for Tinubu, Oborevwori, Okowa

    Muslim faithful from Delta State have joined others in the holy pilgrimage to Mecca for this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, to offer fervent prayers for President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, seeking divine guidance and strength for their leadership. 

    They called on Muslims across the globe to live a life of sacrifice and selfless service to humanity in line with the injunctions of Allah and the Holy Quran. 

    The Chairman of Delta State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Alhaji Auwal Tukur, made the call while speaking at the ongoing Hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

    Tukur said the Eid-el-Kabir is spectacular in the life of a Muslim because of the obedience exhibited by Prophet Abraham in the Holy Quran when Allah asked him to sacrifice his son Ishmael. 

    He reminded Nigerians of the need to pray for peace, unity, and all-round development in the country, stressing that the Feast of Eid-el-Kabir should be used to promote love and give sacrificially to fellow human beings, regardless of tribe, religion, or social status. 

    He said the hajj was a platform to pray for the country and especially for Delta State and her political leaders. 

    He thanked Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for providing rams and food items to Muslims in Delta State.

    He also thanked his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and Deltans for their love and care for Muslims and other non-indigenes. 

    He called on anyone perpetrating criminal activities in Delta State to relocate, adding that the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them. 

    Tukur gave assurance that Hausa, community, and other tribes in Delta were impressed with the leadership style of Governor Oborevwori, pledging 100% support to his MORE Agenda. 

    The Chief Imam of Ekiti State, Alhaji Abubakar Musa, who led other pilgrims in prayer in the Holy Land, said all hands must be on deck in calling on Allah to reverse ugly trends in Nigeria. 

    While offering special prayers for Governor Sheriff Oborowori, Senator Okowa, and Delta State, Muslims, he prayed for more development and peace in Delta State.

    The association also expressed deep concern over the resurgence of insecurity in parts of the country, particularly in Benue, Zamfara, Plateau, Katsina, and Borno states.

    “While we acknowledge recent improvements in the security landscape, we urge the government to take decisive and sustained action to tackle terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities threatening the peace and stability of our nation.”

    Northern CAN further commended the President for appointing Sama’ila Audu, an indigenous Christian from Katsina State, as Executive Director (Administration) of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

    “This is a commendable and well-deserved appointment. We encourage Mr. President to continue promoting inclusiveness and fairness by appointing more qualified indigenous Christians from Northern Nigeria into key positions.”

    The group however concluded by praying for peace, prosperity, and divine blessings upon the Muslim Ummah, as they reflect on the exemplary life and teachings of the Prophet (SAW).

    As Muslims across Nigeria mark Eid-el-Kabir, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has urged citizens to offer prayers for the nation’s peace, stability, and continued progress.

    In a message on Friday to commemorate the annual festival, the First Lady emphasised the spiritual significance of the Eid celebration, calling on citizens to embody the values of the season.

    “This is a time of deep reflection on the values of sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and faith. It is also a time to show kindness and generosity,” Senator Tinubu said.

    She urged Muslims to go beyond ceremonial celebrations and embrace the core teachings of Eid by reaching out to those in need.

    “I urge you to remember your neighbours and extend a hand of love and support, especially to the less privileged,” she said.

    “As we celebrate, also pray for our dear country, for continued peace, stability, and progress,” she said.

    Eid-el-kabir: Governors felicitate Muslims, urge prayers, unity

    Governors yesterday extended warm greetings to the Muslim faithful as they joined their colleagues across the world in celebrating this year’s Eid-el-Adha.

    Eid-ul-Adha or Bakrid is one of the two main festivals in Islam to commemorate the devotion and submission of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to Allah’s will. It is marked with prayers, animal sacrifice, charity, social gatherings, festive meals and gift-giving.

    In their separate messages, the governors called on the adherents of Islam to embrace peace, unity and love as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, who complied with  Allah’s directive to sacrifice his son, Ishmael.

     The governors include Babajide Sanwo-Olu(Lagos), Dapo Abiodun(Ogun), Seyi Makinde(Oyo),   Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti)    Dikko Radda (Katsina) and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi).

    In Lagos,   Governor  Sanwo-Olu urged Lagos residents and other Nigerians to continue on the path of spirituality and peaceful co-existence.

    He also advised Muslims in the state to imbibe the lessons of the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim and work for the unity and progress of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

    These appeals were contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile. 

    He said: “On behalf of my family and the government of Lagos State, I wish all our Muslim brothers and sisters in the State and Nigeria a happy and peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

    “Eid-al-Adha is a symbolic event in the history of mankind, particularly for Muslims, given the bountiful rewards that followed the patience and perseverance of Prophet Ibrahim, who held on tenaciously to his faith in God despite being afflicted.

    “This symbolic Islamic celebration is a reminder to us that there will always be great rewards when we have abiding faith and patience in trying periods; persistence in prayers and tenacity in our beliefs.’’

    Sanwo-Olu charged  Lagosians to eschew tendencies that could disturb the growth, development, progress, peace, unity and stability of the state and country.

    • Ogun

    Sanwo-Olu’s counterpart in Ogun, Governor Abiodun, encouraged the Muslim faithful to embrace selflessness and compassion, which are the key teachings of Islam.   

    He noted in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy,   Kayode Akinmade, that  Eid highlights the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

    The governor said, “On this special occasion, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all Muslims as we observe Eid-el-Adha. This celebration is not only a time for joy and festivity but also a moment for reflection on the values of sacrifice, love, and generosity.

    “As we gather with family and friends, let us remember those in need and extend our hands to help them. The true essence of Eid lies in our ability to share our blessings with others.” 

    The governor highlighted the role of unity and harmony among all religious adherents in the state, noting that Eid-el-Adha serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together to foster peace and understanding among all citizens.

    “Let us celebrate responsibly, ensuring that we protect ourselves and our loved ones while enjoying the joy of Eid,” he added.

    • Ekiti

    Governor Oyebanji, in a message by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, highlighted the significance of Eid-el-Kabir as a festival of sacrifice and joy for the Muslim faithful.

    He congratulated them for witnessing another Eid,  noting that sacrifice was  ‘’the price to pay for victory, fulfilment, success, profit and joy as shown in the story of Ibrahim’s obedience to the command of Allah to sacrifice his son Ishmael with a ram slaughtered in his stead.

    The governor also enjoined them to imbibe the core lesson of Eid-el-Kabir -Kabir, which is total submission to the will of the Almighty Allah, which, according to him,   brings rewards.

    He equally emphasised the need for collective efforts in the task of developing Ekiti, describing the Muslim community as an important partner in taking the state to a higher pedestal of development.

    • Oyo

    Also,  Governor  Makinde called for increased prayers for the state and Nigerian leaders. He described  Eid al-Adha as a blessed and glorious festival through which Muslims worship Allah.

    The governor advised them to show complete dedication to him(Allah), and to pray to God to accept and reward the sacrifices of all worshippers.

    Makinde   appreciated the Muslim Ummah for their unrelenting support for his administration and their constant prayers

    He said: “I want to congratulate my Muslim brothers and sisters in Oyo State and across the world on witnessing the Eid-el-Kabir 2025.

    “Eid al-Adha is one glorious festival and an opportunity for Muslim faithful to demonstrate their dedication to God through prayers and sacrifice.

    “Let me also add that our government, their government, will continue to put the interests of the people of the state first.

    “Again, I urge all Muslims and all residents of the state to be watchful and alert during the festivities, as security is a responsibility for everyone. If anyone sees something, they should say something, and the government will do something.’’ 

    • Katsina 

    In his message, Radda also charged residents of the state, especially Muslims, to use the period to show acts of kindness to one another, reflect and pray.

     Highlighting the significance of Eid al-Adha, he noted that its inherent value is rooted in faith, sacrifice, and obedience to Allah’s will.

    The governor implored pilgrims observing   Arafat rites in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to remember the state in their prayers.

    He said: “Eid is about sacrifice and kindness. A small act of kindness can go a long way.

    ‘’This year’s Eid comes at the start of the rainy season — a lifeline for our farmers. I pray for good rains and a rich harvest. Agriculture is the heartbeat of our economy. I urge our citizens to take advantage of our farming and business support programmes under the Building Your Future agenda.”

    • Bauchi

    In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described Eid-el-Kabir as a period of deep spiritual reflection, symbolising sacrifice, obedience, compassion, and unwavering faith.

    “As we mark this important festival,    I urge all citizens to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Ibrahim and imbibe the spirit of selflessness and love for one another,” he said.  

    The governor called on all residents of the state to use the season as an opportunity to promote mutual respect and unity among all, irrespective of religious, ethnic, or political differences.

    The governor emphasised that Bauchi State is a collective heritage whose development depends on the shared responsibility of its people.

    Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister  Nyesom Wike also rejoiced with Muslims on the occasion.

    He   commended  the   Muslim community in the FCT for their ‘’enduring contributions to the growth and peaceful coexistence within our territory.’’

    Describing their ‘’ values and sense of community’’ as   ‘’integral to our shared progress,’’ Wike said President Bola Tinubu was working tirelessly to ease the ‘’burdens of all.’’ 

    He said, “Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, our administration has been working tirelessly to ease the burdens faced by our people.

    ‘’We have made commendable progress in infrastructure development, security enhancement, and social welfare interventions. These efforts are all aimed at improving the quality of life for every resident of the FCT.”

    Also, Ekiti State former Governor Kayode Fayemi described the celebration as a period of spiritual reflection, gratitude, and commitment to the values that define the Islamic faith.

     He, however, called for moderation in the celebrations

    “Let us balance our festivities with empathy and kindness towards those less fortunate. While we celebrate, let us do so with consciousness of the challenges many of our compatriots are facing,’’ Fayemi said.

    • Ganduje urges sacrifice, charity

    All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje called on  Muslims in the country to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice and charity as typified in the lifestyle of Prophet Ibrahim.

    Ganduje, in a statement yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary,  Edwin Olofu, rejoiced with the Muslim Ummah worldwide on the occasion of this year’s Eid.

    He charged them to reflect on the essence of the session, which teaches the importance of sacrifice, obedience to divine command, and the spirit of giving.

    The APC chairman described Eid-el-Kabir as a significant reminder of the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim and his willingness to submit to the will of Almighty Allah.

    Ganduje said: “As we mark this sacred festival, I call on all Muslims to reflect on the essence of Eid-el-Kabir, which teaches us the importance of sacrifice, obedience to divine command, and the spirit of giving.

     ‘’Let us use this period to show kindness to our neighbours, extend a helping hand to the less privileged, and promote unity and peace in our communities.” 

    He further charged    Nigerians to remain steadfast in prayers for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the country.

    • CDS urges unity in building  peaceful country

     Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)  Gen.  Christopher Musa has urged Nigerians to cooperate with the government and the military to build a peaceful, prosperous and secure country.

    Ge, Musa  also urged members of the Armed Forces to continue to make  sacrifices  for  ‘’our dear nation.’’

    He said this in a message to members of the Armed Forces on the occasion of    Eid-el-Kabir 

    The CDS acknowledged the troops’ unwavering service, resilience, and sacrifice in defending the country.  

    He said: “The essence of Eid-el-Kabir is that of wholesome sacrifice, as such, let’s continue to make unending sacrifices that will prosper our dear nation.

    “To the troops on the frontlines safeguarding our communities, maritime domain and borders, your courage and commitment continue to inspire hope and confidence in the hearts of all Nigerians. You are an embodiment of patriotism, and your sacrifice will never go unrecognised.”

    Gen. Musa reassured that the Armed Forces remained committed to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and supporting civil authorities in peace maintenance.

    The CDS said he was committed to enhancing joint operations, improving welfare, investing in training, and leveraging technology to address modern security challenges.

    Charging   Nigerians to understand that security is a shared responsibility, Gen. Musa said their support remained ‘’vital to national security. 

    • PSC calls for renewed commitment to national  unity

    The  Police Service Commission (PSC) has urged Muslim faithful to embody the virtues of faith, obedience,  sacrifice and compassion.

    The commission, in a statement by its Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, said the virtues were fundamental to building a peaceful and just society.

    It said:  “This sacred celebration reminds us of the virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and compassion, which are fundamental to building a peaceful and just society.

    “As we commemorate this festival, let us renew our commitment to unity, tolerance, and the pursuit of the common good.”

    The commission commended  Muslim officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for their dedication and service to the nation.

     It said:  “Your sacrifices in ensuring the safety and security of our communities will not go unnoticed.

    “May this Eid bring peace, prosperity, and renewed hope to our country. Let us continue to work together to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, and service to humanity.’’ 

    • Fire Service chief warns on safety measures during  cooking

     Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Abdulganiyu Jaji, has listed things that must be handled with care while meals for the Eid celebration are being prepared.

    Jaji said the advice was necessary to avert fire incidents.

    Among the things listed by him are roasting animals in kitchens, overfilling of frying pots/pans with oil and wrong placement of gas cylinders.  

    He said:   “Cooking is at the heart of our Eid celebrations, but it’s also where most domestic fire accidents begin. During festivals like Eid al-Adha, the risks increase as families prepare larger meals at different hours of the day.

    ‘’Roasting of animals, a cherished Sallah tradition, should be done in open spaces and gas cylinders must be placed outside the kitchen at all times.”  

    The Fire Service chief congratulated Muslims  on the festival   and  urged  them  to ensure that their

    homes are equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets and smoke detectors.

    He also reminded them and other Nigerians of the need to turn off electrical appliances, stoves and gas cookers before stepping out of their homes.

    “We may be ready to respond at any time,” Jaji said, “but what we truly want is for Nigerians to stay safe and avoid emergencies altogether.”

    Eid-El-Kabir: Barau calls for unity, support for needy

    Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, on Thursday, rejoiced with Muslims in the country over the Eid-El-Kabir celebration, emphasising the importance of unity among the citizens.

    Barau, who made the call in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, urged Muslims and indeed all Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity and the country’s progress.

    Senator Barau, who is the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the well-being of the country and to offer their full support to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the President is genuinely working for peace and socio-economic prosperity of the Nation.

    “I wish Muslims, and indeed all Nigerians, a memorable Eid-El-Kabir. This season reminds us to obey Allah’s instructions, as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. True Muslims should adhere to peace, tolerance, justice and charity.

    Chief Imam urges Muslims not to borrow for Eid-el-Kabir sacrifice

    Chief Imam, Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Amidu Sanni, has advised Muslims not to borrow to fulfill the Eid Kabir spiritual obligation.

    The advice was contained in his 2025 Eid Kabir message made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

    Sanni discouraged Muslim faithful from engaging in illicit activities or financial recklessness in order to perform the sacrificial rite of slaughtering a ram.

    He extended his felicitations to all Nigerians on the occasion and prayed for peace and the safe return of pilgrims from Hajj.

    The cleric, who spoke against the backdrop of the subsisting economic challenges in the country, said those who could not afford to slaughter any animal were statutorily exempted.

    “So, no reason to go borrowing or engaging in illicit deals to fulfill a religious duty,” he said.

    He said:”That this year’s feast of sacrifice is incidentally coming on the heels of the second year anniversary of the current political experience under President Bola Tinubu has a special significance for Nigerians.

    “My first clarion call is to Mr President, the state governors, and heads of the local councils to rescue Nigerians from losing hope in the polity to a meaningful life.

    “The renewed hope mobilisation can be tailored in such a way that public trust can be rekindled in Nigerians by the implementation of people-oriented policies to cushion the effect of the removal of the oil subsidy and the free fluctuation of the Naira.

    “The full implementation of the national minimum wage will to a great extent assuage frayed nerves.

    “Promises from state actors to the people should be kept to foster needed trust and to restore patriotism,” he added.

    Sanni further referenced public reactions to the recently shelved compulsory voting bill, saying the backlash reflected the pulse of ordinary Nigerians.

    The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 36,000 personnel, including regular and special marshals, along with 750 patrol vehicles, 120 ambulances, 25 tow trucks, and over 200 motorcycles across the country to ensure safer travel along major roads during the Sallah celebration.

    FRSC spokesman, Assistant Corps Marshal, Olusegun Ogungbemide, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.

    He said the deployment was to ensure free flow of traffic, provide prompt rescue services and timely clearance of obstructions on all major roads and critical corridors across the country before, during and after the festive period.

    “It is to also minimize the occurrence of road traffic crashes on the nation’s highways through effective patrol operations and sustained public enlightenment campaigns,” Ogungbemide said.

    The FRSC spokesman said the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, has directed commanding officers operating across various formations nationwide to ensure that the 52 corridors are properly manned throughout the period of the operations.

    He said: “To achieve this feat, the Corps has deployed operational equipment in the categories of Radar Guns, Breathalysers to put a check on drunk driving, operational logistics materials are also to be fully deployed for this exercise. 

    “More so, the Corps Marshal has equally directed that all Zebras must be activated and be responsive to calls within the minimum FRSC response time to crashes reported.”

    Ogungbemide urged motorists to obey traffic rules and cooperate with FRSC and other law enforcement agencies, warning that Mobile Courts would prosecute traffic violators.

    “Special focus will be on checking the following offences; Dangerous driving/overtaking, overloading violation, Use of phone while driving, Excessive speed, Lane indiscipline/Route violation, Passengers’ manifest violation, illegal use of SPY number plate, Latching violation among others,” he said.

    Eid-el-Kabir: Oyo civil servants get rams, rice, vegetable oil at subsidised rates

    No fewer than 2,500 Muslim civil servants in Oyo State will benefit from the government’s festive commodity advance scheme ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

    The initiative, designed to provide relief to Muslim workers amid current economic challenges, includes subsidised items such as ram, rice, and groundnut oil.

    Chairman of the Agricultural Credit Corporation of Oyo State, Sheikh Taofeek Akeugbagold, disclosed this during the distribution exercise held at Ikolaba, Ibadan, where qualified applicants received their items.

    Sheikh Akeugbagold explained that the programme, which will run until Wednesday, June 4, 2025, reflects the state government’s commitment to worker welfare under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

    He added that repayment for the subsidised items would be made in three instalments starting from August 2025, and assured that the initiative would be sustained to support civil servants during major festive periods.

    “This initiative is one of the relief packages of the Oyo State government to ensure that public servants enjoy their holiday during the festive period.

    “For the past five days, we have distributed rice to 2500 people who are civil servants with the Oyo State government. Today, we are on Ram and tomorrow also. They are buying it at a subsidised rate and the payment will be spread over three months, commencing from August 2025 and will be deducted from their salary”, he said

    He, therefore, appealed to the beneficiaries to pay promptly to allow another set of people to benefit from the initiative

    Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with newsmen lauded the government’s gesture, describing it as a wise decision.

    A civil servant from the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Mr Ogundele Muideen, said the gesture was a big relief for workers who may not be able to afford the high rate of rams sold by rams sellers to the public

    Also, Mr Yekeen Taiwo from the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority, OYRTMA and a female civil servant from the Teaching Service Commission, TESCOM, Alhaja Balkis Omilowo, appreciated the state government for the laudable initiative, saying the program has made it seamless for civil servants to get rams for the Ileya festival at affordable rates.
