    Hospital commemorates Eid-el-kabir, Islamic New Year with get-together

    The General Hospital, Isolo, Lagos has held its first ever Ileya Get-together.

    The hospital Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Soliu Olugbenga Oseni, who stated that it was inspired by the impact at Somolu General Hospital where he first introduced it, said it was his way of celebrating his members of staff and making them feel appreciated.

    “When I did it at Somolu General Hospital, I saw how happy the members of staff were. It may look like a religious event but most of the organisers are Christians. It’s a way of bringing the staff together to bond and enjoy and appreciate the effort they have put into the system.”

    Commenting on his experience since arriving at the hospital, Oseni said, “I’ve only been here nine months, but we’ve been able to change staff mindset, improve on the IGR and improve staff-patient satisfaction. Also, we now have a psychiatric unit where we admit psychiatric patients. We are the only Lagos State general hospital that offers that service. We also have new services like dermatology. We’re actually looking at making this place a tertiary institution.”

    Dr. Sulayman Ogunmuyiwa, Head of Education Quality Assurance Services unit, Office of the Director, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, delivered an incisive keynote lecture on the Importance of Worship.

    While appreciating the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the hospital management for their support, the MD/CEO listed his other achievements to include: the expansion of the admission ward currently under construction, the refurbishment and upgrading of the electronic medical report fast nearing completion, equipping of the newly renovated Ophthalmology/eye Clinic, equipping of the Physiotherapy Department, extension of the male ward, provision of additional theatre bed to make the second suite more functional and the upgrade of the EMR with fiberoptic and intranet.

    A cleric with the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Boanerges, Prophet Adegboyega Ologbonyo, has rejoiced with Muslims over Sallah celebration.

    Ologbonyo, the planter of CAC Boanerges, extended heartfelt greetings and well wishes to all Muslim brothers and sisters in Nigeria and across the globe.

    A statement by the cleric encouraged everyone to reflect on values of empathy, generosity, and mutual respect that are at the heart of both our faiths.

    Eid-el-Kabir: CAN urges Nigerians to embrace peace, unity

    As Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Archbishop Daniel Okoh has advised Nigerians to embrace peace and unity. 

    Okoh urged Nigerians to embody the values of sacrifice, obedience, and faith in daily lives. 

    The CAN boss called on all to set aside differences, heed the call for unity and peace, and trust in God’s promise for a better Nigeria. 

    A statement on Sunday by Okoh said: “Our nation is in dire need of God’s mercy, peace, and unity.

    “This festival symbolizing sacrifice, obedience, and faith, I, on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), extend warm felicitations to our Muslim brothers and sisters.

    “In the face of current challenges, let us unite in love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Let us pray for divine intervention in our security, economic, and political struggles. May God’s comfort and strength support the displaced, the bereaved, and the traumatized.

    Eid-el-Kabir: Don’t lose hope, Adelabu, Ladoja beg

      The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and former Oyo Governor Senator Rashidi Ladoja have urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

      The duo said current economic hardship was temporary, noting that Tinubu was capable of proffering solutions to Nigeria’s problem.

      According to them, though Nigeria situation has got to a worrisome stage,Tinubu will fix the challenges with more patience.

      Speaking after observing eid prayer in Ibadan, Adelabu said God appointed Tinubu as President to take the nation to the Promised Land.

      He urged Nigerians to continue praying for Tinubu for God to give him good health to fulfil his promises to Nigerians, adding that the President and his cabinet were working hard to alleviate suffering of Nigerians.

      He said: “We need to sacrifice, have trust and believe in Tinubu’s leadership, whatever we are passing through today is for better tomorrow, the president is working hard to ensure that we are back in the comity of nations.”

      Adelabu said by the time all reform and transformation in power sector were done, things will never remain the same again.

      He said Nigerians will soon begin to enjoy  uninterrupted power supply.

      “We need patience, confidence and trust of the people and believe in those they have appointed into power and we shall not disappoint them.”

      Eid-el-Kabir: Shettima prays for peace, bumper harvest

      Vice President Kashim Shettima has prayed for peace and a bumper harvest from this year’s farming season.

      Shettima offered the prayers while speaking to journalists shortly after joining thousands of Muslim faithful to pray at the Ramat Square Eid Ground in Maiduguri,Borno State, marking this year’s Eid-el-Kabir.

      The Vice President, who joined in performing the two Raka’at Eid-el-Kabir prayers, led by the Chief Imam of Borno State, Shettima Mamman-Saleh, also prayed for social harmony and development of Nigeria.

      Speaking to Journalists after the congregational prayer, the Vice President said: “We pray for peace and progress. We urge Nigerians to pray for peace in the land  and for prosperity and this is the agricultural season we hope and pray that we will get a bumper harvest that will address some of the food security challenges that we are facing.”

      Shettima urged Nigerians to live in peace and continue to pray for the progress of the nation.

      He also said with peace, Nigeria can address its challenges, saying “we want to emphasise peace. We have to cultivate peace because there can never be development without peace and there can never be peace without development,  they have to go on a pari-pasu basis.

      “We have to rally our people to unite as a people and face our common challenges and avoid grandstanding.”

      Among the worshippers were Borno acting Governor, Usman Kadafur, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn-Garbai and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari, among others.

      In his sermon, Borno State Chief Imam, Shettima Mamman-Saleh enjoined Nigerians to embrace peace as he prayed for the progress of Borno State and Nigeria at large.

      He urged Muslims to imbibe the virtues of love and sacrifice as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

      The Chief Imam later slaughtered a ram in commemoration of the annual festival, which depicts the spirit of sacrifice.

      As part of activities marking the 2024 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Borno State government later hosted a lunch in honour of Vice President Shettima.

      A cleric, Prophet Sam Olu-Alo, has felicitated with Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir, assuring that Nigeria will bounce back and survive despite current challenges.

      Olu-Alo, who is the Planter, Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Adamimogo, Grace Of Mercy Prayer Mountain World-wide, lauded Muslims in Nigerian and Oversea for embracing religious harmony.

      A statement by the Personal Assistant to the cleric, Deji Ogunbusuyi urged Muslims to always live by the ethos of sacrifice, faithfulness, diligence and love exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, saying these are good characteristic required to build a peaceful, united and prosperous nation.

      He saluted President Bola Tinubu for promoting religious harmony in the country through equitable appointments and good fraternities across ethnic lines, which he said Governor Oyebanji was promoting at the state level.

      The statement reads: “It is my great honour and privilege to salute the Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-El-Kabir. Your sacrifices at all levels of government has helped to stabilise this nation. I commend you.

      “We all know what we are in a difficult and daunting time. As we confront our challenges and difficulties, we are invited to emulate sacrifice and faith in our daily lives.

      “In these difficult time, let us be buoyed by faith and retain the hope that together we can make things better. Let us embrace the lesson of sacrifice and uphold peace and goodwill towards all.

      “We should be hopeful that things shall get better under President Tinubu’s hegemony. The economic policies might be hurting, but we have the inkling that the future shall be greater.

      “With humility, I congratulate you and wish you a rewarding time as you sojourn in this religious adventure that will further boost your faith in Allah with this celebration.”

      He prayed for Muslims that travelled to Mecca to return safely, urging the to remember Nigeria in their prayers in Mecca.

      Eid-el-Kabir: Muslim faithful groan over high cost of ram, pepper in Osun

      Ahead of Eid-el-Kabir celebration, Muslim faithful in Osun state are lamenting over the high cost of ram and pepper. 

      Checks by The Nation on Friday, June 14, around popular markets in Osogbo capital of Osun state revealed that the average big ram costs between N350,000 to N450,000 while smaller ones cost between N150,000 to N250,000.

      The ram markets visited include Stadium, Testing ground, Power line, Stadium, Ayegbaju, Owode-Ede, Igbona and Oke Baale. 

      Muslim faithful are lamenting over the high cost of ram, noting that, cost of ram in 2024 tripled that of 2023. 

      Speaking with a Muslim faithful, Yusuf Sikiru, he said: “We are in a very tight corner this year, the cost of ram is on the high side including tomatoes, pepper among others are pocket-threatening.”

      This is just as the Osun state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Abba ordered deployment of operatives for the celebration,charging heads of formations to personally supervise their personnel deployed for the special assignment and warn them not to infringe on the rights of citizens but to protect them towards untold incidents.

      Similarly, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed 2,350 operatives for the celebration as the spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke assured Osun residents of adequate security.

      The federal government has declared Monday 17, and Tuesday 18 June, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Adha (Sallah) celebration.

      The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration on Friday, June 14, on behalf of the federal government.

      Tunji-Ojo congratulated all Muslim Ummah both at home and in the Diaspora on this occasion.

      The Minister,  in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Aishetu Ndayako, assured that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all Nigerians.

      While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul- Adha celebration, the Minister advised all Nigerians to take responsibility in the resolve to hand over a prosperous Nigeria to our children.

      Eid-el-Kabir: FRSC deploys 184 officers, 743 patrol vehicles, 92 ambulances

      The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 184 personnel, 743 patrol vehicles, 184 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, 23 tow trucks and 144 motorbikes as parts of logistics for the special operations initiated to ensure crash-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

      The corps has also deployed tyre pressure gauges, a number of extricating machines and digital breathalyzers for the special operations nationwide.

      The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, announced this during a press briefing on Friday June 14, at the corps headquarters in Abuja.

      He said the objectives of the special operations were to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities Injuries; prompt response to road traffic crash victims; unhindered engagement in purposeful public education and speedy removal of obstructions from the highways, amongst others.

      The Corps Marshal said a total of 23 tow trucks have been mobilized to ensure prompt removal of obstructions, and rescue operations during the period. He added that15 traffic control camps were dedicated solely to identifying traffic gridlock areas to be manned by our personnel on a 24 hours basis.

      He said: “In achieving the objectives of the special operations, the Corps will combine the engagement of the motoring public through purposeful and impactful public education programmes, strengthening of surveillance activities to regulate unprofessional excesses, sustained effective patrol operations as well as adequate monitoring on the highways.”

      The FRSC boss said the the corps have also instituted over 200 Mobile Courts to check some road traffic offences, including speeding and dangerous driving/overtaking,

      lane indiscipline/route violation,

      road Obstructions,use of mobile phone while driving, overloading,

      seat belt/Child restraint use violations, loading of trailers with passengers, illegal use of the spy number plates, among others.

      He said beyond the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the corps would deploy more technology that would reduce the interface between drivers and FRSC personnel.

      The corps marshal said more personnel would also be deployed on the highways to check drivers’ excesses, especially those using trailers to convey both human beings and animals.

      He said the corps would continue to collaborate with the Nigeria Bar Association and State Judiciaries for timely prosecution of drivers and vehicle owners caught contravening established traffic regulations like overloading, dangerous driving, and use of phone as well as speeding. 

      “These violations will be tamed through the instrumentality of mobile court operations,” he said.

      Senator gives 8,500 food packs to constituents for Eid-el-Kabir

      Over 8,500 households in Lagos East Senatorial District, today benefited from Ileya’s Food Pack distribution of Senator Mukhail Abiru.

      Beneficiaries from 16 local governments and LCDAs in Lagos East, thronged venues of the distribution in their communities.

      The gesture is coming 90 days after he gave 10,000 foodpacks on turning 60.

      Abiru, who chairs Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, and  Southern Senators’ Forum, in his Sallah message, reiterated his commitment to laws, programmes and interventions to improve quality of life.

      He decried state of the economy, particularly rising cost of food during this festive season, he enjoined the people to exercise patience with President Bola Tinubu, as tpolicy decisions of his administration will soon produce results.

      Abiru hoped his programme will cushion impact of the hardship on residents, amid other interventions of Federal  Government and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

      This is not the first direct humanitarian assistance for the needy the senator has done. He disbursed N150 million in 24 months to 2,500 under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme. Every month, beneficiaries got N5,000 each for the period the programme lasted.
