El Kanemi Warriors are awaiting the arrival of Suleiman Toure and Zango Umar ahead of their departure today to Gombe for one week pre-season session before travelling to Kaduna for a pre season tournament in the first week of next month.
The Maiduguri side have brought in Promise James, Efe Yarhere and Ibrahim Muso who came in from Kano Pillars, Warri Wolves and Wikki Tourists respectively among other players that have come in to fortify the squad ahead of the new season.
The Media Officer of the Borno side, Anthony Obaseki told SportingLife that El Kanemi concluded the first phase of their pre season in Maiduguri a few days ago and that they are eager to proceed to Gombe to ensure that they continue with the rest of their build up to the season.
He said El Kanemi Warriors have it in mind to face Yobe Desert Stars in a friendly match and that if that fails to hold they are certain to face some teams in Gombe during their pre season there.
Obaseki disclosed that the captain of the side, George Michael resumed last week and that the Borno Armies decided to give their players an extended holiday because of the peculiar nature of Maiduguri which won’t afford them the luxury of visiting their loved ones as often as they would like to.
He said El Kanemi would keep 40 players including those discovered from the Governor Shettima Youth Cup which was won by El Kanemi Babes after the victory over El Kanemi Warriors Feeders and that they intend registering only 30 players for a start when the league resumes next month.

El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri have secured the services of Kano Pilllars defender Promise James and Warri Wolves striker Efe Yarhere, SportingLife understands.
The club’s media officer, Anthony Obaseki said James and Nyarere’s experiences in the league attracted the Borno Armies interest to bring the duo to Maiduguri for the next soccer season.
It is understood that the pair have reported at the team’s training camp in Maiduguri.
“Nyarere and James are few of the players that have shown interest to play for us this season. The technical crew look at their experience before invited them and the club have started process of signing them. They are with us now and training with the rest of the squad,” Obaseki said.

Bosso warns: Hussaini is not for sale
El Kanemi Warriors technical adviser Ladan Bosso has warned the prospective suitors that one of his players, Mohammed Hussaini is not for sale at any amount.
SportingLife had exclusively report last weekend that the former Frimpong Academy of Minna is currently training with Akwa United in a bid to sign for The Promise Keepers ahead of next season.
In a chat with SportingLife, Bosso revealed that the lanky defender is not yet mature for Akwa United, stressing that the club is not ready to negotiate with any club for his signature.
The former Kano Pillars manger insisted that Hussaini must complete his three years deal he signed with El Kanemi Warriors.
“I am not ready to release him. I heard that he is now in Uyo. They (Akwa United) should stop waiting their time because Mohammed is not for sale. He should follow good process to grow. He needs a coach to manage him to mature well. He is not yet matured to play for Akwa United,” Bosso disclosed to SportingLife.
He added: “I always paired him with Umar Zango so that he can learn more from him. Money is not everything. For his future, he should follow sequence of development. I am advising him to return to Maidiguri because is not going to be released to any club.” -

Boko Haram: Presidency denies using UK’s aid to prosecute opponents
The Presidency on Wednesday denied the allegations raised by one Con Coughlin in the April 12 edition of The Telegraph (London) paper.
The article said that Nigeria is using the United Kingdom (UK) aid to persecute president’s political foes rather than to fight Boko Haram.
Coughlin also wrote that “American officials are also angry that $2.1 billion of aid given to the Nigerian military to tackle Boko Haram has not been properly accounted for.”
He also accused President Buhari’s government of attempting to cover-up the abductions of 400 women and children “abducted last year by militants from the Nigerian town of Damasak.”
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, however said that the allegations were false.
He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a piece published on April 12, 2016, in The Telegraph (London) paper, by one Con Coughlin (identified as ‘Defence Editor’), and titled, ‘Nigeria using UK aid to persecute president’s political foes rather to fight Boko Haram.’
“The piece is not only full of factual inaccuracies, it also betrays a shocking ignorance of Nigeria and the country’s ongoing war against terrorism.
“Mr Coughlin’s editorial tactic is to quote unnamed “senior officials” and “Western diplomats” and “Western officials” and “political opponents” making fact-free and unfounded statements. It also appears that he sought out only those opinions which suited and reinforced his disgracefully false headline.
“Nowhere in the piece is there anything that suggests he attempted to contact the Nigerian government for its own side of the story.
On Coughlin’s remark on the $2.1 billion, Garba Shehu said: “It does not occur to him that the $2.1 billion he refers to was budgeted for and wholly spent by the government that President Buhari and his party defeated in the March 2015 presidential elections, and that one of President Buhari’s priorities has been investigating the misuse of those funds.
“It also does not appear to occur to Mr. Coughlin that the “political opponents” he is falsely accusing President Buhari of “targeting” and “persecuting” are actually on trial on account of how they spent the $2.1 billion in question.
“Mr. Coughlin is equally unaware of the fact that the investigating panel set up by Mr. Buhari to probe the $2.1 billion recently published a preliminary report that confirmed that much of that money was indeed looted or mis-spent by the accused persons, and that the government has started to recover the funds.” He added
He said that Coughlin’s accusation of President Buhari’s government attempting to cover-up the abductions of 400 women and children “abducted last year by militants from the Nigerian town of Damasak” was absolutely untrue.
He said: “The Damasak abductions he’s referring to, which were recently widely reported, took place, not “last year” as he says, but in late 2014, well before Mr. Buhari was elected President of Nigeria. (And, by the way, President Buhari came to power on May 29, 2015, not July, as Coughlin reports).”
“A simple search by Mr. Coughlin of his paper’s archives would have revealed these facts. A simple fact-check by his copy-editors would have spared the Telegraph the embarrassment of publishing this drivel.”
He also noted that there were several other inaccuracies and baseless statements in the piece.
“But Mr. Coughlin is too enamoured of his anonymous sources to realize they might be misleading him, or be as ignorant about the situation as he is.
“The suggestion that Boko Haram is going “from strength to strength” is an eminently laughable one; not even Nigeria’s opposition party would make such an absurd claim.
As an indication of success against the insurgents, he said that schools in Borno State, shut for more than one year under the previous government have reopened since President Buhari took office.
“The same applies to the airport in Maiduguri, shut down in December 2013 after a devastating Boko Haram attack on the nearby Air Force Base.
“Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have now started returning home. Last Sunday, El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club played its first game in its home base of Maiduguri in more than two seasons. Until now they had been forced to play home games outside the region, on account of security concerns.
“There are several more examples of how the people of the region are finally getting a chance to rebuild their lives, as the Nigerian Armed Forces and a Multinational Joint Task Force continue their work of routing the terrorists.
“Mr. Coughlin not only sounds like a spokesperson for the very people whose corruption and mismanagement allowed Boko Haram to bring Nigeria to its knees – and whose disastrous legacy President Buhari has spent the last one year redeeming Nigeria from – he is also guilty of failing to observe the most basic rules of responsible journalism.
“Mr Coughlin needs a refresher course on responsible journalism as much as he needs a crash course on Nigeria. Until he submits himself to these, we’re afraid he will continue to embarrass not only himself, but also the revered British media institution that is the Telegraph.” He stated

El Kanemi boss hails LMC verdict on Bayelsa row
The leaders of the Maiduguri side have given thumbs up to the judgment of the league organisers after a landmark ruling in favour of his side.
El Kanemi Warriors’ chairman, Zannah Mala has hailed the verdict of the League Management Company (LMC) which ruled that their game with Bayelsa United ended 1-1 apiece among other punishments meted out to the Restoration Boys.
The Maiduguri side had stormed out of the match in Sapele in the dying minutes of the encounter after controversy brewed between the centre referee and one of his assistant referees over the eligibility of Bayelsa United’s second goal. The centre referee awarded the goal but the assistant referee was defiant that the goal was scored from an offside position.
The LMC later ruled on the botched league clash that the game ended 1-1 and also banished Bayelsa United to Abuja for their next three matches while El Kanemi were slammed with a fine of N250,000 and told to produce one of their players that assaulted the centre referee during the game.
Zannah said the LMC’s verdict in the disputed match showed that the organisers of the league mean well for Nigerian football but pleaded with the league body to tamper justice with mercy on the fine imposed on the club.
Zannah said: “We are relieved that we have got our point back after they thought they could deny us what was due to us. The LMC is doing well for the interest of the league and I can only commend those taking charge to keep up the good work. I also want to plead that they should be more lenient with the monetary sanction imposed on us.”
Meanwhile, El Kanemi defeated Lobi Stars 2-0 in a league match played at the Kano Pillars Stadium to improve their position on the log.
Goals from Obioma Arinze and Emmanuel Ajia in the 38th and 57th minutes handed crucial maximum points to El Kanemi Warriors.

Chairman of the club, Zannah Mohammed Mala (kakaje) confirmed to SportingLife that the team will play some friendly matches before moving to Togo and Benin Republic on a training tour.
The team was billed to travel last week for the tour but changed the plan due to some unforeseen situation.
“We are very grateful to the sports loving governor of our state, his deputy and the commissioner for sports as well as the good people of Borno State for their support to the team. I can say that the team is not lacking anything and we believe our pre-season will keep the boys fit for the season,” Zannah Mala declared.

Onuegbu staying with El Kanemi Warriors
El Kanemi Warriors’ central defender, Stanley Onuegbu has hinted he will star for the side in the upcoming 2013/2014 Glo Premier League season.
The former Heartland captain’s strong form at the back contributed immensely to the Maiduguri-based side’s fourth place finish in the outgone season on 60 points three points adrift champions, Kano Pillars.
Onuegbu who is observing the side’s 10-day holiday at his home town, Mbaise, Owerri, Imo state said switching to another club side is not on his agenda at the moment.
“I’m still a bonafide player of El Kanemi Warriors as we speak, I’ve not changed nor intended to change my status quo though I always allow God to dictate for me at the end of every season.
“I’m at home right now with my people and how nice it is to return home after a hectic season in far away Maiduguri.
“We didn’t perform badly in the outgone season as fourth best though we would’ve been happier with a continental ticket.
“Of course, that’ll be the number one agenda on our minds when we resume for the upcoming season.
“We have a quality bench and players to deliver the goods, we’ve noted the mistakes that robbed us of the league title we’ll correct them and bounce back stronger.
“We’ll be heading to the Super Four contest to make a bold statement. We’ll like to tell doubters that our fourth finish was worked for and merited by striving to win the Super Four shield,” said the former Enugu Rangers strongman to supersport.com.
El Kanemi Warriors are expected to end the 10-day break on November 07 to resume preparations for the new league season.

Baraje still eyes title
El-Kanemi Warriors coach, Zachary Baraje has said his side’s title aspiration is still on course despite defeat at Heartland.
The Maiduguri-based side were edged 0-1 by embattled side, Heartland in Saturday’s Glo Premier League Matchday 36 duel at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri.
The former Sharks striker, Bright Ejike handed the Naze Millionaires the three points through a well-taken penalty in the 58th minute.
Baraje, who sounded unconvinced over the penalty awarded against his side, said he will quickly dash home to plan for the mid-week Matchday 37 home tie against Lobi Stars in Maiduguri.
“Though I’m not the type that indulges in blame game but I think the referee assisted Heartland with the penalty.
“That wasn’t the way I planned the game, we planned for draw not defeat in worst case situation but that’s history. I’ll go back home to plan for the next game against Lobi Stars.
“The defeat has not in any way killed our title campaign, sincerely I don’t give up. Our title hope may have been shaken but not in any way over, I’m still aspiring till the last game,” Baraje said to Supersport.com.
El Kanemi Warriors have 57 points with two games against Lobi Stars and Enugu Rangers to round off this season’s campaign.
