  • Keshi rues Dike’s injury

    Keshi rues Dike’s injury

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, has regretted the injury that knocked Bright Dike out of the team before the Confederation Cup held in Brazil in June.

The Big Boss, who spoke in Abuja, said the MLS player would have been a perfect replacement for Emmanuel Emenike, but unfortunately, he was also injured.

He said, “Bright Dike’s injury was pathetic, and it came almost the same time with that of Emenike. Bright would have been a perfect replacement for Emenike but it is unfortunate that he was injured too.

“But the good news is that he has recovered and has started gradual training. I’m hopeful that by September when we have our series of qualifiers, he would be fit enough to be part of the team. It is not always the best for any coach to lose almost his best options at the same time.”

KESHI TO KENYANS:I don’t need Emenike, Moses to beat Harambee Stars

SUPER Eagles boss, Stephen Keshi has told Kenyans in clear terms that his team does not need the services of injured duo, Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses to beat the Harambee Stars in today’s 2014 Group F World Cup qualifers at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

SportingLife gathered that a confident Big Boss while speaking with a swarm of Kenyan reporters after the Eagles five minutes training said his players would prevail without the star forwards.

“We have a lot of players, we don’t depend on one player, we depend on the team, if Victor is not here, if Emenike is not here, Nigeria is going to play,” he added.

With the FIFA Confederations Cup looming, Keshi insisted his focus at the moment was on picking maximum points against Kenya and Namibia to bring their World Cup dream closer and they were under no strain to win the match.

“We have four teams in this group, so the pressure should be spread around, it’s everybody and its all pressure around, Kenya wants to win, Malawi wants to win and Namibia wants to win.”

    •Nigerian loves Fenerbahce – Agent

FENERBAHÇE are in talks with Spartak Moscow over the return of Emmanuel Emenike according to the players agent Erdem Konyar.

“Fenerbahçe are in talks with Spartak Moscow,” Konyar told Turkish radio station Radyospor.

“Emenike likes Spartak Moscow but loves Fenerbahçe, if the clubs agree; he would love to return to the club. Emenike wants to play Champions League football, he knows the staff at Fenerbahçe well and would like to play for the team.

“However, rumours that he has accepted a €2.5m per-season deal are false, he earns more here, it’s unrealistic to believe that he will leave for a reduced salary. But first thing first, the clubs have to agree before we begin player negotiations.

“Spartak signed Emenike for €10m, it is unlikely that they will let him go for a lower transfer fee.”

The Nigerian international was signed by Fenerbahçe for €9m in 2011 however, was sold to Spartak Moscow for €10m – without playing a single game – following his suspected involvement in the match-fixing scandal which rocked the country last season.

Emenike was arrested and held in detention for four days before his move to Russia. The 26-year-old striker has been cleared of all charges and is now free to return to Turkey.

    Emenike set for Fenerbache return

MTNFootball.com can specially report that Nigeria international striker Emmanuel Emenike could well return to Fenerbahce this summer.

Emenike’s contract at Spartak Moscow is till 2016 and it has a buyout clause put at €42million.

A reliable source in Turkey informed MTNFootball.com that Turkish giants Fenerbahce are keen to buy out the striker’s contract from Russian club Spartak Moscow.

“As I speak to you efforts are ongoing by Fenerbahce to resign Emenike. He is the kind of striker they want and all things being equal, Emenike will return to Fenerbahce this summer,” the top source told MTNFootball.com

In 2011, following a big-money move from Karabukspor, Emenike sensationally left Fenerbahce for Spartak Moscow without playing an official match after he was alleged to have been involved in a match-fixing scandal that rocked Turkey. However, he was later cleared of any wrong doing.

Emenike, who celebrated his 26th birthday recently, was the Goal King at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

However, he has since been dogged by long-term injuries.

He suffered a hamstring injury at the AFCON and on his full comeback game for Spartak he suffered a knee injury, which required surgery in Italy.

  • SOCCER BUFFS HAIL EMENIKE’S $50,000 REWARD

SOCCER BUFFS HAIL EMENIKE’S $50,000 REWARD

NIGERIA soccer buffs have hailed the gesture by Africa Cup of Nations star, Emmanuel Emenike’s offer to award his colleagues 50,000 dollars (N7.9m) if they defeat the Harambee Stars of Kenya in their June 6 World Cup qualifier.

They acknowledged the move as a worthy manner of motivating the players, even with his absence from the squad.

Emenike has been sidelined by injury.

Some have described his offer as a “motivational therapy’. They reasoned that Nigeria’s qualification could hasten Emenike’s recovery.

Some also said that Emenike’s offer was similar to the likes of some African soccer greats like Cameroon’s Samuel Eto Fils, George Opone Weah of Liberia and Seydou Keita of Mali who have motivated their colleagues before major competitions.

Christian Chukwu, a former Super Eagles coach, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the offer showed how player regarded the qualification of the team for the World Cup.

“It is a very good gesture; if other people can emulate him, we will be better off and have a stronger team. Although he is injured, we pray for him to get better before the match, which will be a good incentive to motivate the players’’.

Iroha, an ex-International, said that Emenike had proved that he had a heart of gold, to support the boys even in his absence.

“I appreciate him for that. It is not easy to pull such a stunt. I wish the team well. I know that the team will miss him on the field but they should work with one mind and with that, they will make a

success of the qualifier,’’ he said.

Ndubuisi Nduka, Head Coach of Heartland FC of Owerri, described Emenike’s gesture as an expression of `patriotism’.

“The young man is one who is emotionally attached to his country and will want to contribute to the glory of his fatherland as he has shown by that offer. That goes to show that his mind is with the team, whether on or off the pitch. It’s a sort of internal motivation for the team, coming from one of them,” Nduka said.

Chinedu Efugh, Captain of Heartland, said that it was a good sign of oneness in the team.

“A good team is one that is made up of inputs from all the departments. The fact that he is not going to be with the team notwithstanding, his contribution will go a long way to spur it to victory,” he said.

Mutiu Adepoju, an ex Super Eagles player, said for a player to offer that kind of amount showed that he was interested in the team’s victory.

“If he can offer that, then it means he is capable of doing it,’’ he said.

Former coach of the Super Falcons, Paul Hamilton, said it was a superb encouragement .

“I am astonished at the way he (Emenike) took charge and told his teammates to help him to win, to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. I pray that they (Eagles) remain focused on the field of play’’.

Joe Erico, a former Eagles trainer, also commended Emenike, saying , he was up to the task. I believe words of encouragement would give his team mates the desired push to go all out.

“Even when it won’t be an easy one for them, but I am positive that the results will be fair enough,’’ added the former goalkeeper trainer.

Erico noted: “The team needs more of such encouragement from football administrators and fans alike.

“The team needs more of our support. We should always have this positive mindset when it comes to football, because it is what brings us together,” he added.
