Emenike seeks more success in Turkey

Super Eagles striker, Emmanuel Emenike, has said he is looking forward to another successful season in Turkey by scoring more goals and winning trophies with Fenerbahce.

Emenike was instrumental to Fenerbahce’s success in the Turkish league last season after scoring 13 goals and he has promised to do more in the new season.

“Last season was great for me, but I believe this season is going to be bigger in terms of trophies for us and goals for me,” Emenike told africanFootball.com

“We have a very strong mentality to attain success every year, we can only get stronger and everyone is ready to go all out for more success.”

He added: “As defending champions, we should expect tough battles when the league resumes because other teams want to win too, but we are not going to be under pressure to defend our title. We are good to go for the season as Fenerbahce will dominate for a long time.

“I am very convinced that we will retain the league title and even get other trophies.”

Emenike also said on a personal note he aims to score more goals than he did last season.

“I have been working hard in training since I rejoined my team so that I can start the season on top form because that is only way I can get more goals than last season,” he told africanFootball.com

“I am as ready as ever to score more goals and to live up to the expectations. I am ready to take more responsibilities and score more goals.”

The Turkish Super League will kick off on August 31 with Fenerbache at home to Emenike’s former club Karabukspor.

    •Lack-lustre match ends goaless

Nigeria’s Super Eagles failed to fly last night, labouring to a poor goaless match against Iran – the first drawn tie in what has been a scintillating World Cup – a dismal tie that left both sides still chasing their first victory at a finals, since 1998.

Both teams were whistled and booed off the field by the largely Brazilian crowd of 39,000 after a first half that looked shockingly meagre compared to the goal feasts served up elsewhere.

Iran packed their defence as expected and Nigeria, with Emmanuel Emenike rarely posing a threat as the main target man for the African champions, squandered their chances with long balls to nowhere and passes straight to opponents

While Iran could take some small satisfaction in keeping a clean sheet for the first time since their debut in 1978, the bore at the Baixada arena stood out like a suit salesman on Copacabana beach.

With Lionel Messi’s Argentina, installed as clear Group F favourites, and exciting debutants Bosnia still to come, Nigeria and Iran look destined for an early exit unless they can raise their game considerably.

The Super Eagles had the ball in the back of the net after seven minutes in a goalmouth scramble but Ecuadorean referee Carlos Vera, perhaps harshly, ruled it out for a push on goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi.

Ogenyi Onazi then drilled a shot wide two minutes later.

Iran came closest to breaking the deadlock in the 33rd minute when goalkeeper/captain Vincent Enyeama produced a fine save from Reza Ghoochannejhad’s header in their first corner of the game.

Defender Godfrey Oboabona made an early exit from the fray, replaced by Joseph Yobo on the half hour after earlier receiving treatment on the touchline following a heavy tackle.

Coach Stephen Keshi said after the tie: “When you dominate possession and you can’t score goals; that is football.” He was referring to the 67 per cent possession that the Eagles had to iran’s 33 per cent.

Nigeria had 10 shots at goal to Iran’s 8, plying seven corner kicks while Iran played two.

The draw in Curitiba means that both teams are yet to win a match at the World Cup since 1998, when Nigeria pipped Bulgaria 1-0 and Iran stopped USA 2-1.

It was the 13th match of Brazil 2014 and it was also the first draw and the first match that did not produce any goals.

SUPER Eagles star, Emmanuel Emenike, has been placed on a €20million (about N4.4billion) price tag by the management of Turkish Super League champions, Fenerbahce.

SportingLife gathered from an Istanbul wire source that the Nigeria who was bought from Russia’s Spartak Moscow was placed on a new release clause following the demand for his signature by English Premier League trio of Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Recall, the Nigerian was the Yellow Canaries’ second top goals scorer after he netted 12 goals last season.

Emenike, 27, is set to lead the Super Eagles to the Mundial in Brazil after a knee injury cost him a place in the Coach Stephen Keshi side that played in the FIFA Confederations Cup that was hosted in the home of the Samba Boys.

Ahead of today’s Turkish Süper Lig clash between Fenerbahçe and Kasimpasa at the Sükrü Saracoglu Stadyumu (Istanbul), Super Eagles forward, Emmanuel Emenike and pals had a closed-door session for the match at their Bartu Facility on Saturday.

The session which lasted for about 1 hour and 15 minutes started at 18.00 was closed to the press as Technical Director Ersun took charge of the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Emenike’s Fenerbahçe have extended its contract with adidas which includes the match and training kits until the end of the season of 2018/19.

At the press conference of the agreement at Fenerbahçe Sükrü Saracoglu Stadium the contract was signed by club’s Vice Chairman Abdullah Kigili and adidas’ Turkey Executive Director Eduard Massier.

The contract will be valid until the end of the 2018/19 season. It’s now 5 years since Fenerbahce and adidas mingled to work together for match and training kits.

  • Emenike: Mum proud of my ambassadorial role

Emenike: Mum proud of my ambassadorial role

Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike has explained how Guinness ambassadorial honour will impact positively on his career and his standpoint on the society.

The Eagles striker, who was recently named Guinness Brand Ambassador by Super Eagles elite supporter, Guinness Nigeria Plc, told Taiwo Alimi that his mother was especially proud of him.

THE Fenerbahce of Turkey player revealed that his mum, who had been one of his biggest supporters, believed the ambassadorial honour will make him a better player and personality.

“When I was coming up as a player, I dreamt of so many things, but to make it real, my mother played an influential role for me to live up to this greatness,” Emenike explained.

“Back then at the 1994 World Cup, she was eager for me to be a player everybody would be giving a standing ovation, not because of anything but because she loves the Super Eagles team and she dedicated her time to making me a great footballer. When I told her about the Guinness honour, she said, ‘it is the kind of thing that makes one a better person’ and that is the way l see it too.”

“It’s great to be an ambassador, I have accepted it and I promise to be more focussed in my career. It has also changed my perspective of life. It’s not just to be recognised as ambassador but also to set my eyes on bigger things in the future. I believe Guinness has been a good brand to Nigerian football, so to be associated with the brand is a great thing. I think more is expected from me now than before and I will be glad to keep my focus alive. Not just as a great player but a great personality too. As a face of Guinness, which is an international brand, I have to be exceptional in conduct on and off the field of play.”

Prodded on the secret of his success, Emenike said it was down to hard-work and self determination. “There are no any other words I can use to qualify the achievement than hard-work. It’s a result of remaining focused even when things are not working out. I am a fighter and that is what Guinness has seen in me.”

According to Guinness PLC marketing director, Austin Ufomba, during the colourful unveiling of Emenike at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Calabar, the Fernebahce striker fits the bill to be the face of the brand as preparations for the World Cup kicks off in earnest.

“Emmanuel Emenike is exactly the kind of player we need to be the face to drive our World Cup campaign and that is why we brought him on board.” he added.

The marketing director also revealed that they are planning to bring a Grade A friendly for the Super Eagles in Nigeria to help prepare the Super Eagles towards the World Cup in Brazil next year.

“We have, as part of our plans, a move to bring in a top class team to engage the Eagles here in Nigeria.

“Guinness brought Argentina to Abuja in 2011, and we hope to do it again. We will work in tandem with the coach to get a good team that will truly test the Eagles,” Ufomba reiterated.

Emmanuel Emenike, who sat alongside Coach Stephen Keshi as he was unveiled, said he is grateful to Guinness for the opportunity and will try his best to project the brand and the Super Eagles as a whole.

  • Ndubuoke: Eagles lack creative playmakers

Heartland chairman, Fan Ndubuoke has said Super Eagles’ final World Cup qualifying match against the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia exposed the side as clearly lacking creative midfielders.

The Eagles defeated their East African opponents 2-0 to qualify for the global football showpiece in Brazil on 4-1 aggregate.

Ndubuoke who congratulated the side for clinching the World Cup ticket said if the side is not to merely add up to the numbers in Brazil, immediate surgical operation aimed at strengthening the side must be done forthwith.

“I’ve congratulated the Eagles for qualifying the country for the World Cup but for us to have a meaningful outing in Brazil the team must be tinkered with from what it’s at present.

“The crop of Eagles we saw against Ethiopia on Saturday in Calabar lacked pace, cohesion, ball sense, among others.

“Keshi must immediately start shopping for more players both on the home front and outside, I don’t think it makes sense to insist that Golden Eaglets must grow through the ranks before being integrated into the Super Eagles when some of them can comfortably fit into the leaking ends of the side.

“We don’t have a point man in the Eagles right now except Emmanuel Emenike and no creative playmaker in the shape of Austin Okocha and kanu Nwankwo.

“But we have have a naturally endowed creative playmaker in Golden Eaglets’ whiz kid, Kelechi Iheanacho. Nobody plays Iheanacho’s role in the present Super Eagles who can masterfully create chances for attackers to score.

“I’m not insisting it must be Kelechi Iheanacho rather that there are hundreds of Iheanachos available that the Eagles can profit from and become a world beater. We have the Eaglets’ captain, Musa Mohammed and Isaac Success around us to leverage on further insistence they must graduate from the Under-20 to Under-23 then to Super Eagles appears to me as self deceptive.

  • My affair with Emenike

    My affair with Emenike

Nollywood stunning beauty, Victoria Egbecheru, may have had grandeur ideas of an intimate affair with Super Eagles goal king, Emmanuel Emenike, that would blossom to the altar but The Nation Sport and Style can authoritatively tell you that the relationship was destined to fail from the beginning, writes TAIWO ALIMI.

AT least both parties have declared themselves ‘free agents’ in the marital department.

Though Emenike would not want to be drawn into any controversy concerning his relationship with the Nollywood up and coming actress, he simply disclosed his ‘not in any serious relationship’ status while sharing his idea of an ideal wife-to-be.

Egbecheru on the other hand declared that the affair with Emenike was great while it lasted. So, how long did the affair actually last? The enchanting Micro Biology graduate offered the answer: “I met Emenike through a mutual friend who introduced us and we started as good friends. He was real fun and because of my love for football it was easy for us to get along. Along the way we discovered we had some differences and decided to end it. It was mutual and l have since moved on.”

The gorgeous Nollywood act also refuted allegation of infidelity, explaining that it was a figment of some people’s imagination. “l don’t know what they are talking about and from the quarters that allegation is coming from. If it is from Emenike l would take it serious. It is just the usual talk in showbiz and l don’t take them too serious. Emenike and l are still good friend and that is all that matters to me.”

A credible source, that is very close to the Super Eagles lynch pin, also volunteered information about the relationship between Emenike and Victoria which he described as a figment of someone’s imagination.

He said: “l cannot recall when Emenike met and asked Victoria to go out with him. True, he may have met her like many fans of the Super Eagles at a social engagement and may have taken pictures together because he has done that with many fans but that does not translate to asking her out or asking her to be his wife. That never happened, and if she is all over the social media posting pictures of her and Emenike, it does not point to any serious affair.”

Below are excerpts of separate interviews with the duo. It is interesting and revealing.

    EMENIKE

‘I am a free agent now’

    Free agent

Before you think about going into marriage, I think there must be a cordial relationship with a girl, abi? I am not thinking about that for now because I am just not ready. Maybe when the likes of Mikel Obi, Chinedu Obasi, Obinna Nsofor and more players in the Super Eagles get married and I attend their weddings, then I can start planning my own, but for now, it is not in my plan.

In the area of relationship, which l also think should come first before marriage, I need to make myself clear: I am still single and searching. I can say l am searching for the lucky girl who would be ready to tolerate me. Marriage is an everlasting match and I don’t want to rush into it. My mother and father are still together despite their old ages; and they have been living for years and that tells you the kind of woman I want. My mother is the only wife my father has and they are like friends and are living like a sister and brother till now. I want a woman like my mother and would be happier if she is even more tolerant than my mother. So when I am ready, I will search for the right person.

I am a kind person that always like to see people around me; I am very friendly. That you see girls around me does not mean I’m in any relationship. As a matter of fact, I don’t have any relationship. I only have cordial friendships but marriage is not yet on the card because I’m still on the fast lane (laughter). I am still a bachelor, so I am free but once I’m married, all gates are closed.

    Dream wife

I have said it before that I want a woman like my mother. My mother is very contented with my father; she’s very loyal and accommodating. She loves making people happy. For a marriage to be successful in this life, I think 90 percent of the efforts must come from the woman. If I see a woman like that for now, I will go straight to the altar but most girls today are after what you have. Money is vanity; though it makes marriage blossom, it does not build a happy home. The truth is that out of 100, it is only 10 that know the definition of a happy marriage and I don’t want a situation whereby I will regret what I have done. I am really taking my time to think about it well. As for those linking me with some actresses in Nigeria, l want to say that they are only rumours. I am not in any relationship with any of them.

    Foreign girl

I will marry a Nigerian that would relate with my parents and family in the easiest way. There are beautiful girls in Nigeria but marriage is not about beauty. You may decide to take fine girls to club but the biggest mistake is to be looking for a beautiful woman to marry

. It is her beauty that will cut your life short. Look at the likes of Nwankwo Kanu and Austin Jay Jay Okocha, they made money in Europe and returned home to marry; I think that makes sense, but I am not against marrying foreigners because at times, they are even better than our girls in some aspects. I like Nigerian girls and I will eventually marry one.

    VICTORIA

‘It was fun while it lasted’

    Affair with Emenike

I met Emenike through a mutual friend who introduced us and we started as good friends. He was real fun and because of my love for football it was easy for us to get along. Along the way we discovered we had some differences and decided to end it. It was mutual and l have since moved on.

    Allegation of infidelity

l don’t know what they are talking about and from the quarters that allegation is coming from. If it is from Emenike l would take it serious. It is just the usual talk in showbiz and l don’t take them too serious. Emenike and l are still good friends, and that is all that matters to me.

    Dumping Microbiology for Nollywood

I found out later in life that microbiology was not what I wanted out of life. I found out late that it was not what I thought it was initially. So, I guess I lost interest. Besides that, I have always loved entertainment. Acting is something I have always loved to do and most of my friends were always encouraging me to go into acting because I have what it takes.

    Movies featured in

Some of the movies I have acted in are out in the market while some are not. I acted in Heroes and Zeros, I was also in Perfect Love although that is a soap opera and it is not yet out in the market. Currently, I am on location and we are shooting a movie called Eight and I also recently concluded work on another movie called May. So, you see I have been really very busy working.

    Style

When it comes to fashion I like to be myself. I do not like to follow a particular trend, I like to wear what fits me, I like to wear a makeup that fits me and you will not find me wearing something because some other person is wearing it or because it is good on somebody else. I like to combine what I wear. I like combining what is in vogue and what is not in vogue, so that at the end of the day I can get a balance. I love fashion.

    •Says I’m not Eagles’ messiah

SUPER Eagles’ hero in the first leg, final round of the World Cup qualification tie against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, Emmanuel Emenike was on Tuesday mobbed by football fans at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos as he returned to his base in Turkey.

Emenike scored two  goals for Nigeria in the 2-1 triumph over  Ethiopia  in Addis Ababa last Sunday to give the Eagles the advantage ahead of the second leg slated for November 16 in Calabar.

The Fenerbahce forward was overwhelmed despite the tight security he came to the Airport with.

He arrived at about 9pm with his entourage but could not beat the desperate fans to it, as he was forced to give out cash and club Jerseys, while he made his way into the departure lounge.

Speaking exclusively to NationSport  Emenike said: “I find joy playing for Nigeria and making this people happy, though sometimes I get angry when things are not in order but I love playing for this country at anytime,”

“I am not Super Eagles’ messiah. My feat has been by the help of God, I am just trying to make myself and Nigerians happy.

“ Goals can come from anybody, so I count myself lucky when I do it for my country and I intend to keep the scoring form.”

Asked why he didn’t celebrate as expected after scoring both goals, he said: “I don’t believe celebrating in Addis Ababa is worth it because the job is not concluded yet. We played with a lot of pressure, we were intimidated in so many ways but I am happy we conquered our fears,”

“I will celebrate with Champagne after the win in Calabar. I will bathe the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials and the coaches with bottles of Champagne in Calabar,” he declared.

    WCQ: Nigeria beat Ethiopia 1-2

Super Eagles of Nigeria secured an away win on Sunday against their Ethiopian counterparts in the first leg of the of FIFA 2014 World Cup Play-Off.

The African Champions came back from a goal down in Addis Ababa to snatch three points from the determined Ethiopians ahead of the second-leg billed for November.

Behalu Assefa put his side up in the 56th minute  through a cross from the left flank. His effort was adjudged a goal for crossing the line even though it was caught by the Nigerian goalie, Vincent Enyeama.

Emenike found the back of the net in the 67th minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the box sending the stadium quiet.

The CSKA Moscow forward was dragged down in the box for a clear penalty — he calmly dispatched the penalty to give  Eagles the victory and a leg in Brazil.
