  • Govt to empower 10,000 youths

    Anambra State government is poised to train and empower over 10,000 youths from the state with the aim of curbing crime and engaging the youths meaningfully.

    Special Assistant to the Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi on Youths Mobilisation, Hon. Nduka Alor disclosed this in Nnewi during a town hall meeting with the Anambra South youths .

    The selected youths will be drawn from the 177 communities in the state and will be trained on various agricultural schemes which include: fish farming, poultry, piggery and snailling businesses.

    Anambra Youths Empowerment Programme was inaugurated on February 15 by Governor Peter Obi with the sole aim of assisting the government implement youth programmes in the state and checkmate the activities of youths who create chaos in some local governments and the state in general.

    Nduka further stated that the selected youths from various councils will first be given orientation on how to manage resources before the empowerment to avoid misuse of grants in the scheme. He also charged the youth to be responsive in carrying out their duties.

    While praising the Special Adviser for his relentless effort in mobilising Anambra youths, the State Secretary of youths, Mr Anthony Nchekwube, dismissed the allegation that the organisation is a political one but a way of i minimising youth restiveness in the country.

    Earlier, the Anambra South zonal coordinator of youth mobilisation, Prince Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu, lauded the state government in mobilising the youth, describing such gesture as a lofty way of promoting youth activities in the state.

  • Empower Nigeria Show holds in Enugu

    THE ‘Empower Nigeria Road Show’, promoted and organised by the Anabel Leadership Academy (ALA) has begun in Enugu amidst pomp and ceremony.

    The event was hosted by the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu Campus.It attracted over 1,534 young entrepreneurs, students, self-employed and job seekers, who besieged the venue in search of direction and hope for a better future.

    The President of Anabel Leadership Academy and Founder of ‘Empower Nigeria Conference Series and Road Show’, Mr. Nicholas Okoye, said the most important element for Nigeria to attain the status of an emerging economic power in the global economy was for a clear and concise strategy on “Youth Empowerment” to be developed and implemented by the nation’s leadership.

    He said kidnapping in the Southeast, crimes and armed robbery in the Southwest, religious killings and Boko Haram insurgency in the North and militancy in the Niger Delta were results of the frustration of youths.

    “With the direction our leaders have been taking Nigeria, the emphasis on private jets by business leaders, political leaders and religious leaders have demonstrated that our leaders were disconnected from the problems in the streets of Nigeria,” he added.

The ‘Empower Nigeria Road Show’ also pointed the young people to the over 35 Federal Government-owned and operated funds set up to support training and empowerment of Nigerian youths so that they could access finance to support their chosen business idea.

    The event was supported by many high profile speakers, who gave personal accounts of their path to success and the challenges they faced as well as the strategies they would use to get ahead in life.
