Tottenham striker Harry Kane has suffered ligament damage to his right ankle.

However, the injury is not thought to be as severe as the injury which sidelined him for seven weeks earlier this season.

The England international was replaced after seven minutes of Sunday’s 6-0 FA Cup quarter-final win over Millwall.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that he was hurt when defender Jake Cooper blocked his shot close to the byeline.

Spurs said the injury is similar to the one Kane picked up against Sunderland on Sept. 18.

  • England to beat Nigeria to Dele Alli

England to beat Nigeria to Dele Alli

England could again beat Nigeria to Spurs emerging star Dele Alli after Jordon Ibe of Liverpool opted to feature for the Three Lions and not the Super Eagles.

Reports coming out of England suggest that 19-year-old Alli is now in line to make England final squad for the 2016 European Championships after his quick adaptation to life in the English Premier League.

Like Ibe, Alli’s father is Nigerian, but he has represented England at the various age-group teams, including playing twice for the England U-21s.

The midfielder’s superlative showings at Spurs – six appearances and a goal – have already received rave reviews. Former England star Michael Owen said he has not been surprised by Alli’s rise to the top because his time in the lower leagues has prepared him for life in the EPL.

“His time at MK Dons prepared him for what he is now facing and I’m not surprised he has done well for himself so far,” said Owen.

Alli’s manager at MK Dons, Karl Robinson, again restated his belief that the midfielder has a great future ahead of him and could be “a wildcard option” for England next summer.

“He is a level-headed boy, who is always calm and willing to work,” said Robinson.

“As a wildcard Dele is a very versatile midfielder, who could play at No 8 or No 10 or on the left and can sit in the midfield and dictate the pace of the game from deep. He can be as good as he wants to be.”

Jordon Ibe dumps Nigeria for England

Liverpool forward Jordon Ibe will not play for Nigeria as he has opted for England, according to Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh.

Oliseh, who recently held discussions with the youngster in England over the possibility of playing for Nigeria, confirmed the player has chosen England Three Lions.

“Jordon Ibe’s family informed me by a telephone call, that he was giving priority to an England call-up. We wish them well,” Oliseh tweeted.

This comes just after England boss Roy Hodgson revealed he has his eyes on the England U-21 international, but insisted the forward has to earn his place in his team and he will not rush to cap at full international so as to keep him out of reach of other countries who may be interested in having him.

Oshaniwa: I want to play in England

Nigeria World Cup defender Juwon Oshaniwa has told AfricanFootball.com his dream is to play in the English Premier League.

Oshaniwa, who rose to the occasion at Brazil 2014, said he was delighted with his performance at the World Cup, where he played against “exceptional” Lionel Messi. Excerpt:

How would you describe the performance of Nigeria in Brazil?

It was not a bad one, though we desired for something great at the World Cup, but we found ourselves not going beyond second round. It was a good outing, all the same.

As an individual, how was your own performance?

It was a great performance for me. The experience for me was a sign of better days ahead in the Eagles.

Which game will you pick as your toughest?

That is the game against Iran. It was my first game at the World Cup and a lot was expected from me and I did not disappoint.

Who was the toughest player you faced in Brazil?

That was (Mathieu) Vabuena from France, he was trickish but I showed my stuff.

    Who was the softest?

Who is the player you dream of playing against?

That has happened already, that is Lionel Messi. He is a great player, exceptional, a magician.

You are currently with FC Ashdod in Israel, but are you going to move?

Football is all about movement, I will keep doing my best to keep growing and see what happens.

Where are you hoping to play this summer?

I have not decided that, and I still have a contact with Ashdod.

    Where is your dream league?

That is the English Premier League. It is my desire to play there soon because it is the best league in the world presently.

There is  unrest in Israel, could that impact on your future at Ashdod?

Honestly, it is an area that should give one some concern. Good atmosphere has a lot to do in football, but God will surely direct me. Ashdod still have right over me because I still have a valid contract with them.

Where are the offers for you coming from now?

Lots of places like Belgium, Turkey, Qatar, Ukraine, but I told them to speak with Ashdod.

The AFCON 2015 qualifiers will start for the Eagles in September, will the Eagles be ready?

Yes, we will be ready. Leagues would be on by then and every player will be active and fit. I am looking forward to us qualifying and going ahead to successfully defend our trophy in Morocco.
