Adeboye urges Nigerians to rely on God’s ‘divine insurance’ amid insecurity

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged Nigerians to place their trust in what he described as a “Divine Insurance Policy” with God, particularly in the face of rising insecurity across the country.

Adeboye made the appeal during a sermon at the church’s monthly Thanksgiving and special prayer service for the transportation sector and their families, held at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Drawing from Psalm 91, he described the scripture as a covenant of protection, security and longevity for believers, stressing that genuine safety is not rooted in human policies or assurances.

The service, themed “Divine Insurance,” was attended by leaders in the transportation industry, church members and students of Redeemer’s College of Technology and Management (RECTEM).

“A human insurance policy has limits, but the divine insurance from God provides a complete, heavenly shield,” Adeboye said, adding that true security is found in God’s presence, which offers refuge from danger and calamity.

He explained that God’s protection extends beyond the scope of human institutions, providing peace of mind, restful sleep and inner satisfaction.

“You cannot call an insurance company and ask, ‘How much should I pay to sleep well at night?’ They will tell you they don’t cover that. But my God does,” he said.

Adeboye, however, noted that access to what he described as divine protection is conditional, stating that it is reserved for God’s children and requires a life of holiness, obedience and faithful service.

“There is a premium for this divine insurance. If you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God and follow His commands, you have no reason to worry. God promises not only to cover you but to bless you abundantly,” he said.

He urged believers to turn away from sin and remain committed to God’s will in order to remain under what he described as heavenly protection.

Speaking to journalists after the service, the General Overseer’s Special Assistant on Administration, Pastor Oladele Balogun, said insecurity is often viewed solely as a governance issue, but added that safety also has a spiritual dimension.

He illustrated his point with the account of a woman who avoided travelling by road due to fear of accidents, only to be struck by a vehicle outside her home.

“The concept of divine insurance addresses the fear that affects daily life,” Balogun said. “Many people hesitate to travel, but under God’s cover, it does not matter whether you move by day or night—you will be secure.”

Balogun also linked national security to societal values, noting that vices such as bloodshed, deceit and corruption undermine spiritual protection.

“That is why I call on Nigerians to return to God. Let us reject evil, wickedness and sin. When we turn to God and obey His will, we remain under His divine protection,” he said.

Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its insecurity challenges, declaring that “the church will laugh last.”

Speaking on Sunday during his sermon titled, ‘The Master Builder, ’ at the RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving service, Adeboye urged Christians and Nigerians at large to remain calm, assuring them that “evil will not prevail” despite the surge in violent attacks nationwide.

Addressing millions of worshippers through a broadcast monitored by our correspondent, the respected cleric said the nation’s troubling security situation underscores a fundamental truth—that only God builds and protects His church. He stressed that regardless of the pressure, threats, or intimidation faced by Christian communities; divine protection remains assured, adding that God’s authority surpasses any human or demonic influence.

Adeboye’s message comes amid repeated attacks on churches across Nigeria in recent years, including kidnappings, shootings and other violent assaults that have left many worshippers injured, displaced, or dead. These incidents have fueled growing fear among congregations and renewed calls for strengthened security and spiritual intervention.

Despite these challenges, Adeboye maintained that believers must not succumb to fear. “When God opens a door, nobody can shut it. And when God shuts a door, nobody can open it,” he said. “So I have good news for you, my children. Put your mind at rest. The gates of hell shall not prevail. Whether the devil likes it or not, the church is going to laugh last.”

He affirmed that God’s role as “the Master Builder” guarantees the church’s survival and growth, insisting that Scripture has already spoken victory over Nigeria and its people.

“My further counsel to every Nigerian is, do away with pretence and hypocrisy because God does not look at the face and mere action but the heart.

“I admonish Nigerians to believe God, trust Him, and He will show up for them.  Our waiting time is over in this nation,” he said.

“If we were to stop praying for just one week, the nation would feel the impact. The church must never stop praying,” he said.

He illustrated his sermon with several faith-lifting testimonies, including that of a young girl miraculously saved from a fatal car accident simply by shouting the name of Jesus.

“When trouble hits suddenly, what comes out of your mouth first is what has been stored in your heart. That name, Jesus, saved her from death,” he said.

Adeboye also recalled a cancer healing testimony involving a family friend who was scheduled to undergo removal of her voice box but was supernaturally healed following prayers and divine intervention.

He noted that the power of God was not restricted by geography or crisis. “The Almighty still rules in the affairs of men. His name is a shield. His shadow is a hiding place,” he added.

Adeboye urges students to embrace diligence for lasting greatness

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged young people to remain focused, hardworking, diligent, and prayerful, describing these virtues as essential ingredients for achieving greatness in life.

Adeboye said this recently during the RCCG’s monthly thanksgiving service at The Throne of Grace headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Adeboye, in a sermon titled ‘Exceedingly Great,’ offered prayers for students across all levels—ranging from secondary school pupils to higher institution students, including candidates for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) exams, and those seeking admission locally and abroad.

He emphasised that to attain greatness, especially the kind described as “exceedingly great, young people must stay focused, work hard, maintain diligence, and remain prayerful.

“In God’s plan, there is no impossibility, especially when you belong to Him by surrendering your life to Jesus. Once you’ve done that, your destiny is to be exceedingly great,” Adeboye said.

However, he cautioned that meeting the spiritual requirement is just the beginning. “You can’t afford to relax after that. Keep working hard and stay prayerful.  Slacking off leads to disappointment and frustration because, even in heaven, there’s no room for laziness.”

Highlighting the importance of having a clear vision early in life, Adeboye noted that while greatness has no age limit, it is best pursued with purpose and direction from youth.

“Some of the issues we face as a nation are caused by human errors—like indiscipline and mismanagement,” Balogun explained. “But many others are spiritual, far beyond what people can understand or control. That is why we must keep our eyes on Jesus Christ, who has authority over both the physical and the spiritual realms.”

He said “Parents, wake up!  Train your children in the way of the Lord.  If you allow them to do what they like, you are ruining your future.  Be firm.

“Those parents who are highly sophisticated and highly educated that would say that their children should be allowed to sow their wild oats when those children are doing wrong things are only ruining their future,” he said.

He reminded Nigerians of three phases in life which are the past, the present and the future, adding that of the three phases, the most important is ‘tomorrow’, and that the decision taken today will definitely affect tomorrow.
