House of Reps presents N18m cheque to victims of Enugu tanker explosion

The Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has presented a cheque of N18 million to the Enugu state government as support to the victims of the January 25 petrol tanker explosion at Ugwu Onyeama on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, which claimed several lives.

The speaker described the incident as a huge loss, not only to the government and the people of Enugu State, but also to the nation as a whole.

He noted that the support was in keeping with the tradition of the House of Representatives to ensure that governments and people of Nigeria do not stand alone in the face of such challenges.

Abbas, who was represented by the Hon. Nnolim Nnaji-led Enugu State Caucus in the Green Chamber, which also had Hon. Martins Oke, Hon. Dennis Agbo, Hon. Mark Obetta, Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, and Hon. Chimaobi Atu on its delegation, commended Mbah for his sterling leadership of the state and the prompt effort to comfort the families who lost their loved ones and support the injured.

“On behalf of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, we commiserate with the Government and people of Enugu State over the tanker incident at Ugwu Onyeama. We acknowledge that you have done a lot to support both the injured and those who lost their loved ones.

“So, this is a cheque for N18 million to assist the state to further ameliorate their losses and challenges occasioned by the incident. The Speaker sends his heartfelt condolences once again. And you can continue to count on the support of the Speaker and the House,” Hon. Nnaji stated.

Governor Mbah thanked the speaker and the Enugu State Caucus of the House of Representatives for the show of concern, assuring that the donation would go straight to the purpose for which it was made.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Enugu State, I express profound gratitude and deep appreciation for this wonderful gesture. I recall that when the Ugwu Onyeama incident occurred, taking the lives of several of our loved ones, the Speaker called and assured us that he was with us in prayer.

“Today, he has also shown us that he is not only with us in prayers, but also materially. He has equally come to mourn with us. This cheque for N18 million will go a long way in cushioning the effect of the incident on those affected and their families.

“Rest assured that as a government, we will ensure that this gets to them in a transparent, accountable, and just manner,” he stated.

Enugu seals deal to develop industrial, commercial hub

The Enugu State Government and the Lion Business Park Limited have sealed an investment deal with the signing of Novation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to develop a world-class industrial and commercial hub within the Enugu Industrial Park Free Trade Zone.

This was even as the state governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to guaranteeing businesses through the provisions of infrastructure and enabling environment for ease of doing business, urging diaspora investors to turn their capital into Enugu State for a high return on investment.

Signing the MOU alongside top management of Lion Business Park Ltd in Enugu on Tuesday, the firm’s chairman, Dr. Okechukwu Mbonu, commended the governor for his visionary leadership, developmental strides and achievements the administration had recorded within a short period in office.

Highlighting the objective of the deal, Mbonu stressed that the company was poised to develop industrial and commercial hub that would catalyze trade, industry, economic growth and create jobs for the youth population.

“This strategic collaboration aligns with Your Excellency’s visionary economic agenda to grow the GDP of Enugu State from $4.4 billion to $30 billion (US Dollars) for the overall benefit of the people of Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole.

“It is therefore, a watershed moment with this renewed partnership between Lion Business Park and Enugu State Government. It is indeed a case of a promise made and fulfilled and I have no doubt that you will continue to fulfill your promises to the people of Enugu State,” the chairman added.

Mbonu, who expressed optimism about the investment, said the project would leverage on the incentives associated with businesses in a Free Trade Zone to attract foreign direct investments, promote human capital, innovation and technology development to create jobs.

Governor Mbah reiterated the administration’s economic blueprint, which is to grow the economy and make the state the number one destination for investors in the country, saying the promise to inspire exponential growth could only be possible with investment deals such as the one executed with the Lion Business Park.

“The Enugu State Government has committed to increase their stake in this going concern by providing all the necessary infrastructure that is required in order for this business park to be fully functional. We see the business park as food that is ready. Because if we are to start the process of building a business park, we know what it will take. Procuring your licenses; getting the free trade license, getting the dry port license because we have an inland port also at the Lion Business Park,” he noted.

While harping that the location of the park was a product of strategy, innovation and due diligence conducted by a team of economic experts in the administration, the governor said, “The business park is strategically located. It is three hours from Onne Sea Port in Rivers State, less than two hours to Asaba in Delta State, and less than 25 minutes to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. We couldn’t ask for a business park at a better location”.

He assured that the administration would continue to make the state attractive to investors to set up their industries by providing the right incentives such as electricity, paved roads, and other infrastructure.

While appreciating host communities in the state for their support, the governor enjoined them to continue to cooperate with investors.

He also coached the Harambee Stars, Kenya’s senior male national team, among others.

JUST IN: Six escape death as fuel tanker, truck collide in Enugu

At least six people narrowly escaped death when an articulated vehicle, loaded with 33,000 liters of fuel, collided with a tipper at the notorious Ugwu Onyeama axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway in Enugu State.

The accident occurred as the tanker was descending from the Ninth Mile end of the road, while the tipper was ascending from the Enugu end on the single lane. Fortunately, all six individuals in the vehicles emerged unscathed.

Mr. Franklin Agbakoba, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu State, confirmed the incident.

He stated that FRSC officers had cordoned off the crash site and initiated traffic control measures, while firefighters were on standby with their fire engines in case of a fire outbreak.

Agbakoba described the crash as involving both the tanker and the tipper.

“Only one person was injured while about six persons were inside. They came out unhurt while the injured person has been taken to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital Parklane, Enugu for treatment.

“There was no fire outbreak. Our men are there with those of the fire service. We were able to ward off people that came to scoop PMS from the scene.

“We had to block the road, divert traffic to other lane. Up till now, the road is still diverted. We’re waiting for a tanker to come and transload the contents”.

  • Rivers demands N300m refund from NBA over relocation of 2025 conference

Rivers demands N300m refund from NBA over relocation of 2025 conference

The Rivers State Government has demanded a refund of N300 million from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) following the relocation of its 2025 Annual General Conference from Port Harcourt to Enugu.

In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media, Hector Igbikiowubo, the state government criticized the NBA’s reasons for moving the event, despite having received payment for hosting rights.

“While we respect the NBA’s right to choose its conference venues, we find it curious that the association—despite its ‘principled position’— failed to address the refund of the N300 million already paid by the Rivers State Government for the hosting rights of the 2025 conference,” the statement read.

“If the NBA truly stands on principle, it should demonstrate the same integrity by promptly returning these funds rather than benefiting from a state it now publicly discredits.”

The statement insisted that the NBA’ reasons for the relocation of the event particularly the insinuation that the Sole Administrator’s actions had undermined democracy and the rule of law was misleading, uncharitable, and unbecoming of an association that prided itself on upholding justice and fairness.

It said the NBA’s statement overlooked the constitutional basis for the current administration in Rivers explaining that . The declaration of a state of emergency was a necessary response to a breakdown of public order and democratic processes.

The statement said President Bola Tinubu, in exercising his constitutional authority, acted in the best interest of the state to restore stability.

“The Sole Administrator’s mandate is clear: to oversee a transitional period that ensures the return of full democratic governance in line with the Constitution. To suggest that this intervention ‘flouts the rule of law’ is not only incorrect but ignores the Supreme Court’s rulings that have validated key decisions made during this period”.

It said in the event the NBA was not aware, the association should consult the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court in Suit No. SC/CV/1176/2024 (Rivers State House of Assembly & Others vs. Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) & Nine Others), where the apex court unequivocally ruled that any local government election conducted in violation of the Electoral Act is unconstitutional, null, and void”.

The statement noted that contrary to the NBA’s assertions, the Sole Administrator had consistently reaffirmed his commitment to restoring democratic institutions as soon as practicable and upholding the constitutional rights of all residents, including freedom of movement, speech, and association.

It said the sole administration had consistently respected judicial pronouncements, including those of the Supreme Court, which had guided the administration’s actions.

The statement said: “The NBA, as a body of legal minds, should know better than to reduce a complex constitutional matter to political sensationalism.

“Rivers State is passing through a challenging but necessary phase in its democratic journey. Rather than contributing to unnecessary tension, we expect the NBA—as a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s democracy—to engage constructively, offering solutions instead of amplifying divisive narratives.

“The Sole Administrator remains focused on his mandate to stabilize the state and facilitate a smooth return to full constitutional governance. We urge the NBA and other well-meaning Nigerians to support this process in the interest of peace and progress.”

NNPC Foundation trains Enugu farmers on modern agricultural techniques

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm, the NNPC Foundation, has trained farmers in the Nsukka local government area of Enugu State in modern agricultural techniques and market access strategies.

Speaking in Nsukka during the three-day training for vulnerable farmers, the managing director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, stated that the training was part of the organization’s commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and national development.

She emphasized that the foundation is dedicated to implementing impactful programs that align with national priorities and support the federal government’s agricultural transformation agenda, which aims to ensure food security.

“This training is a testament to our unwavering commitment to food security, economic empowerment, and national development.

“As the corporate social responsibility arm of NNPC Ltd, the NNPC Foundation is dedicated to implementing impactful programs that align with national priorities.

“This initiative is part of our broader efforts to support the Federal Government’s agricultural transformation agenda, which seeks to enhance food security, increase productivity, and improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers across Nigeria.

“As we gather here today, we must acknowledge the pressing reality of food insecurity in Nigeria,” she stated.

Arukwe, who was represented by Mrs. Goodnews Willie, Deputy Manager of Education and Healthcare Programs at NNPC Foundation, further mentioned that the organization recognizes the importance of agriculture to the livelihood of the nation.

“At NNPC Ltd, we understand that agriculture remains the primary livelihood for over 70% of Nigeria’s population, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, 2024.

“Yet, many farmers remain trapped in subsistence-level production due to limited access to modern techniques, quality inputs, and competitive markets; hence, this training is designed to change that narrative.

“Through this initiative, we will train 6,000 vulnerable farmers across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria in modern, climate-resilient farming techniques, soil and water management, organic fertilization, and post-harvest loss reduction strategies.

“Our goal is to equip every participant with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to transition from subsistence farming to commercial-scale production,” she noted.

While declaring the training open, the Enugu State Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, Mr. Patrick Ubru, commended NNPC Foundation for training farmers.

Ubru noted that the training presented a critical opportunity for NNPC to equip smallholder farmers with modern agricultural techniques and market access strategies.

He encouraged all participating farmers to engage fully in the program, which represented their opportunity to learn, share, and grow together in modern farming.

“Let us work hand in hand to build a resilient agricultural sector that thrives on innovation and collaboration to help achieve food security in the country.

“With partners in agriculture like NNPC Foundation, we can transform the agricultural landscape of Enugu State and beyond,” he concluded.

The Commissioner disclosed that Dr. Peter Mbah, the Governor of Enugu State, would continue to make agriculture a central pillar of his administration to equip farmers and ensure food security in the state.

  • Enugu LP suffers major blow with Edeoga’s return to PDP

Enugu LP suffers major blow with Edeoga’s return to PDP

A major political realignment has taken place in Enugu State.

Labour Party (LP) strongman Chijioke Edeoga had dumped the party and returned to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Edeoga, the LP governorship candidate in the 2023, who lost narrowly to Governor Peter Mbah of the PDP, has now teamed up with the governor in a move seen by observers as the likely end of LP in the state.

Edeoga was a commissioner in the immediate past government in Enugu led by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

He lost out the race for the PDP ticket, following which he defected to the LP.

Preparatory to his defection Edeoga met with the leadership of Enugu State PDP on January 31.

Yesterday, Edeoga, accompanied by his supporters, drove into the PDP State secretariat in a convoy and was received by the state party leadership and stakeholders led by the Chairman, Dr. Martins Chukwunweike.

Addressing party faithful, Edeoga thanked Governor Mbah and his Eha-Amufu Ward III, Isi-Uzo LGA, and state party leaderships for making his return possible and smooth.

Rededicating himself to the PDP, he said it was time for all to join hands with Governor Mbah in the great works he is doing in Enugu State.

“I want to say that I’m happy to be here. I want to start by thanking in a very special way, the governor of Enugu State.  I appreciate that what has happened today cannot begun to be conceived without his political involvement.

“By this gesture, he has demonstrated a mental state that is worthy of appreciation and that is worthy of being supported or rewarded to the extent that is humanly possible.

“A thing like this has never happened in the annals of Enugu State politics. It might look small, but it will cause a paradigm shift in the way politics is played in Enugu State. It is no longer something where you warehouse bitterness. It is no longer winner takes all. All those things that people have been trying to preach in Nigeria like accommodating everybody, are being demonstrated in Enugu State.

“So, I rededicate myself again to the PDP to make sure that the PDP remains a winning machine in Enugu State as it has always been. I am happy to be here. I appreciate all those who made it possible,” he stated.

Dr. Chukwunweike described Edeoga’s return as strategic for Enugu PDP, and also had the full blessing of Governor Mbah.

“Our number one term of reference upon our election as the state’s party leadership is to reunite the party. His Excellency said that we must work to bring everybody together. So, today is a major step in that direction.

Council Chairman of Isi-Uzo, Edeoga’s home LGA, Obiora Obeagu, described his return as a very welcome development and a milestone for Isi-Uzo and Enugu PDP, an affirmation of Mbah’s leadership, and vindication of those of them who worked for the governor’s victory in the 2023 election.

Ex-Enugu LP Gov candidate Edeoga rejoins PDP

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate Chief Chijioke Edeoga has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Edeoga, who left the PDP for LP after failing to secure its governorship ticket, finished second in the election behind Governor Peter Mbah.

He was received at the PDP Secretariat in Enugu where he formally announced his return to the party.

Addressing the party members, Edeoga rededicated himself to the PDP.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah and Enugu PDP chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, for making the event possible.

According to him, Mbah had demonstrated an elevated mental strength that is worthy of appreciation; worthy of being supported and rewarded to the extent that is humanly possible.

Edeoga, who said his return to the party, would cause a paradigm shift in the way politics is played in the state, argued: “It’s no longer politics of bitterness or winner takes all. All those things that people have been trying to preach in Nigeria, about justice and accommodations and all that. All those things have been demonstrated by the Governor.”I thank everyone who is witnessing this historic and very memorable occasion. I want to state that I’m happy to be here .

“I want to start first of all by thanking in a very special way, the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah. I appreciate that what has happened today cannot even be conceived without his active involvement. He has by this gesture, demonstrated an elevated mental strength that is worthy of appreciation; worthy of being supported and rewarded to the extent that is humanly possible.

“I want to thank the state party chairman of PDP, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike. I’m not just meeting him; we’ve known ourselves for several years. I’m very happy that it’s under his watch that this historic, very memorable event is happening.

“A thing like this has not happened in the annals of Enugu State politics. It might look small. But it’s going to cause a paradigm shift in the way politics os played in Enugu State. So, I thank you in a special way for midwifing a process. It took delicate maneuvering and diplomacy from him to achievements what has happened today. So, his role, even if it’s carrying out the directive of the governor, can never be underestimated because you can give someone something to do, and he does it in a bad way. So, I thank you very much sir for making this happen. You didn’t act alone but in consonance with your executive.

“I also want to thank in a special way, the former chairman of PDP in Enugu State, Chief Augustine Nnamani. We’ve come a long way in our friendship irrespective of our political differences. He’s pivotal and critical if what happened today”.

  • Enugu crashes maternal mortality by 400 percent

Enugu crashes maternal mortality by 400 percent

The Enugu State Government said it has reduced by over 400 per cent, the national average maternal mortality of 512 deaths per every 100,000 live births, which it inherited.

Governor Peter Mbah stressed that his administration was intentional in disrupting the unacceptable poor state of the primary healthcare system from the outset, as a healthy population and workforce was at the core of his government’s vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4bn to $30bn.

He explained the PHCs were not just about the buildings, but about world-class equipment, including staff quarters and renewal energy to ensure availability of manpower and electricity 24 hours of the day in the 260 PHCs in the state.

“Some of the data that we saw when we came in were very disturbing. The data on maternal mortality was unacceptable and we immediately recognised that we had to do something very quickly, particularly in our primary healthcare subsector.

“We recognise that there is no reason our women, who are pregnant will not be able to get quality healthcare at any time of the night or day, hence the staff quarters and renewable energy. This is essentially responsible for the intervention you are seeing in the primary healthcare space.

“These interventions you are seeing at the primary level are also going on at the secondary facilities. We are revamping 22 Cottage and General hospitals.

“The same thing is going on in tertiary healthcare where we are building a world-class Enugu International Hospital. We are going to have top-notch medical practitioners that will deliver world-class medical services”, he said.

Mbah emphasised that the Otukwu, Emene, PHC was in line with his administration’s inclusive governance model where people did not need to know anyone in government for development to get to them, adding that his administration would in addition build a Type-3 healthcare facility in their area to ensure full access to healthcare services by the dense population.

He commended the Council Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Hon. Beloved Dan Anike, for enrolling 5,000 persons into the Enugu State universal health coverage and urged other chairmen to do the same.

“What that means is that once you have that cover, you just walk freely to any of our health facilities and receive treatment just by paying 1,000 naira every month,” he said.

Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku, described the governor’s interventions in the primary health subsector as radical and life-saving.

“In 2023, the Governor embarked on a fact-finding mission. What he discovered was a primary healthcare system in dire need of resuscitation. Out of 566 PHCs, a shocking 47 per cent were in a state of disrepair – rented, housed in containers, or simply dilapidated. 40 per cent required major overhauls and only 12 per cent were barely functioning adequately.

“We also faced a daunting challenge requiring 7,573 Primary Healthcare Community Workers (PHCWs), but had only 2,942, which is a staggering 61.2 per cent gap. The governor resolved it by approving the recruitment of 2,200 PHCWs,” she stated.

She explained that the state-of-the-art PHC Otukwu, Emene, which had commenced work about three weeks ago had registered 140 residents, while two babies, named Peter and Ndubuisi by their parents, had been delivered in the facility.

She noted that the government’s interventions were already yielding fruits, as Enugu’s maternal mortality rate, which was above national average of over 512 deaths per 100,000 live births, had drastically reduced, although it was still not acceptable to the Mbah administration.

“In 2024, we witnessed a dramatic turnaround of over 400 per cent drop in maternal mortality, a decline that speaks volumes about the efficacy of the administration’s interventions,” she explained.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Emmanuel Obi, described Enugu as the future of medical tourism in West Africa and Africa as a whole, noting that the governor was building, notbl just for the present, but also for the future.

  • Don’t set Nigeria on fire, Onjeh urges judiciary

Don’t set Nigeria on fire, Onjeh urges judiciary

Former Chairman of the Governing Board of Projects Development Institute (PRODA), Enugu, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, has expressed concerns over the increasing trend of conflicting injunctions emanating from courts, warning that such judicial inconsistencies could push the country towards anarchy.

In a statement on Monday, Onjeh condemned what he described as the reckless abuse of legal orders, stating that the judiciary, being the last hope of the common man, must safeguard its integrity.

He warned that eroding public confidence in the judicial system could return society to a State of Nature as opined by Thomas Hobbes where the survival of the fittest prevails.

“It is becoming apparent that the Benue State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal, empaneled by the embattled Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambese, is on a mission to subvert justice.

“The Appeal Panel, which is the final arbiter in the matter of the 2024 Benue State Local Government Elections, seems determined to deliver rulings that will make a complete travesty of the law,” Onjeh declared.

Onjeh said it was even more worrisome as Justice Ikpambese, in a viral video, had previously said he’ll put judges in the Appeal Panel that will “pepper” the Benue State Government.

He added that the embattled Benue Chief Judge seems bent on using his jurisdictional control over the Tribunals and Appeal Panel to subvert justice in the matter.

“These power-hungry detractors care nothing about public perception or the far-reaching consequences of their actions. Their desperation to control the Benue local government system has dragged the name and image of the judiciary into the mud,” he said.

Onjeh dismissed as laughable the belief of some political actors that they can manipulate the system without being exposed.

“They think they are swimming in a boundless ocean, whereas, those with the third eye to discern their political gimmicks are seeing them clearly like tiny goldfishes in an aquarium. They may deceive a gullible society, but their activities are obvious to us, and we will continue to expose them,” he asserted.

He further described the recent injunction by the FCT High Court, which ordered the relocation of the Benue State Election Petition Tribunal back to Abuja as legally and procedurally flawed.

He pointed out that the applicants who secured the injunction lacked locus standi, as they were neither petitioners nor respondents in the tribunal.

“Even more absurd is the fact that they falsely included the APC as a party in their application, despite the party not being involved in the case,” Onjeh noted.

He explained that interim injunctions are preservative orders meant to maintain the status quo, not to compel an action. However, in this case, the FCT High Court went beyond its bounds by issuing an order that mandated action rather than preserving an existing situation.

“If we allow people with no direct stake in a case to obtain such questionable injunctions, one day, someone will secure a court order demanding that the President relocates his office to their village,” he warned.

Onjeh emphasised that the Chief Judge of Benue State lacks the authority to relocate the Election Petition Tribunal from Makurdi to Abuja.

He stressed that local government elections are governed by state electoral laws.

He also dismissed the claim that insecurity in Makurdi necessitated the tribunal’s relocation, arguing that no official complaint had been made to the Governor, who is the Chief Security Officer of the state.

“Governor Alia has issued security directives barring all non-interested parties from coming near the tribunal’s sitting. More so, the NBA Headquarters in Abuja, where Justice Ikpambese relocated the tribunal, is not an open court as required by Section 83 of the extant Benue State Electoral Laws on Local Government Election Petitions,” Onjeh stated.

He described as alarming the fact that the same APC members who secured the questionable injunction are also the ones backing the petitioners at the tribunal, even though they did not participate in the 2024 Benue State Local Government Elections.

“Only candidates who participated in an election and their political parties have the locus standi to approach an election tribunal. The Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC) did not recognise them as candidates, so on what basis are they demanding to be declared winners?” he queried.

Onjeh stated that a petitioner can only approach the Tribunal to challenge the candidate of another party who was declared the winner in an election, but not the candidates of his own party who emerged at the primaries.

He further noted that the FCT High Court overstepped its jurisdiction by ruling on matters concerning Benue State’s local government election laws, which are outside its territorial authority.

He also criticised the court for issuing a conflicting ruling against an earlier injunction granted by the Federal High Court in Makurdi, which ordered the tribunal to return to Makurdi.

“Courts of coordinate jurisdiction cannot overrule each other; only an appellate court has such power. The proper course of action for the applicants should have been to seek redress at the Court of Appeal, not to engage in forum shopping by running to another court of equal jurisdiction,” he explained.

Onjeh also blamed lawyers for misleading judges and abusing the judicial process for personal or political gain.

“Lawyers are supposed to be priests in the temple of justice, presenting only truthful and relevant information to the courts. Instead, many deliberately mislead judges, concealing crucial facts to obtain favourable rulings. It is highly probable that the lawyers who obtained the injunction from the FCT High Court failed to disclose the subsisting order from the Federal High Court in Makurdi,” he said.

Onjeh commended Governor Alia’s commitment to good governance, fiscal responsibility, and the welfare of Benue’s people. He said those seeking to use judicial manipulation to usurp power are the same individuals who, when in office, failed to improve the state. “They are not interested in Benue’s development—only in their own political and economic survival,” he added.

He called on the judiciary to tread carefully to avoid plunging Nigeria into chaos. “If conflicting injunctions continue unchecked, the judicial system will become a tool for political warfare rather than a mechanism for justice. The courts must resist being used as pawns in the desperate schemes of power-hungry politicians,” he warned.

Onjeh, who is a former President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), called on the NJC to look critically into the recommendations of the Benue Assembly on Justice Ikpambese, as well as the petition written against him, and to act swiftly to resolve all the lingering issues in the long-drawn legal tussle in order to preserve the sanctity and integrity of the judiciary.

He also urged the appellate court to immediately set aside the FCT High Court’s order.
