    Everton complete Lookman’s signing

Everton has announced the signing of Ademola Lookman from Charlton Athletic on a four-and-a-half year deal for an initial £7.5m in a deal with add-ons rising to £11m.

The England Under-20 forward broke into Charlton’s first-team midway through last season and quickly caught the eye with his direct running. He is contracted until June 2021 and will wear shirt No31.

“It feels great to be an Everton player,” the 19-year-old. “As soon as I heard about Everton’s interest I knew this would be the right place for me.

“Everton has a big history and I was also attracted by the manager. When you look at what he did at Southampton, and what he does with young players in terms of developing them, that was a big attraction.

Everton’s debts cleared with £80m loan

Everton have announced reduced turnover and losses for 2015/16 but have been boosted by an interest-free loan from major shareholder, Farhad Moshiri.

In the financial results released today ahead of next month’s AGM, Everton posted a turnover north of £120million but announced a post-tax loss of £24.3m.

Turnover was £121.5m, down £125.6m, while commercial income fell £4.6m to £21.4m.

The club’s expenditure in the transfer market and on players contracts, combined with a failure to qualify for Europe, have been cited as reasons for the increased deficit.

Transfers totalled a net spent of £24.7m, with Everton’s wages as percentage of turnover amounting to 65%.

The accounts revealed, however, that Moshiri, who purchased a 49.9% stake in the Blues last February, has provided an interest-free £80million loan with no agreed repayment date. That has been used to repay £54.8m worth of loans and other exceptional items.

Chairman Bill Kenwright said: “I’m more positive now about the future of our great club than I’ve been during my time as chairman.”

  • Chelsea thrash Everton 5-0 to move top

Chelsea thrash Everton 5-0 to move top

Eden Hazard scored twice as Chelsea moved to the top of the Premier League with a scintillating 5-0 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge.

Not since winning the 2014-15 title have Chelsea led the top flight, but they took advantage of Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough earlier on Saturday to do so, though Arsenal or Liverpool could displace them by winning their respective matches on Sunday.

Antonio Conte’s team, unchanged for the fourth straight league match, ran riot and punished visiting manager Ronald Koeman for his decision to switch to a three-man defence.

That surprise tactical change came despite Everton having ended a run of five games in all competitions without a win at home to West Ham last time out.

Hazard opened the scoring in the 18th minute, converting for the fourth successive league game for the first time in his career, before Marcos Alonso opened his Chelsea account with his maiden goal for the club just 70 seconds later.

Koeman sent Kevin Mirallas on for Bryan Oviedo in a bid to add stability through a more familiar formation, but the hosts continued to dominate and Diego Costa fired home three minutes before the interval.

Manchester City 1-1 Middleborough: Iheanacho in late cameo

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho was a late substitute as Manchester City drew 1-1 against Middleborough at the Etihad this evening.

The Nigerian was named among the substitutes by manager Pep Guardiola for the third consecutive match in all competitions – he was benched in the premier league games against West Bromwich Albion, Middleborough and the UEFA Champions League tie against Barcelona.

Fortunately for the Citizens they’ve not lost any of those games in the absence of the Nigerian who last started a game in the 1-1 home draw against Everton on October 15.

Manchester City found life very difficult against Aitor Karanka’s men as they mustered the home side’s pressure and goalkeeper Victor Valdez who coincidentally was Pep Guardiola’s first choice during their time together at Barcelona pulled out some decent stops to prevent City from running riots.

Eventually, they had a breakthrough just before half-time as Belgian Kevin de Bruyne produced an exquisite cross from the right to find teammate Sergio Aguero and the Argentine made no mistake from six yards out.

However, Manchester City were denied a win as De Roon headed in a perfect cross from left-back George Friend. Iheanacho was introduced as a late substitute but it was a little too late as the game finished 1-1 to the delight of the away fans.

  • Everton, Obaje win August NPFL-LBA

    Everton, Obaje win August NPFL-LBA

FC Ifeanyiubah head coach, Rafael Everton and Wikki Tourists striker, Godwin Obaje, have been named Manager and Player respectively for the month of August in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) – League Bloggers Awards (LBA).

Everton becomes the first South American to win the prestigious monthly award as a manager in the NPFL.

The FC Ifeanyiubah coach was picked ahead of El-Kanemi Warriors trainer, Ladan Bosso as well as Solomon Ogbeide of Sunshine Stars and Paul Aigbogun of Enyimba for the month under review.

The Brazilian navigated FC Ifeanyiubah through difficult fixtures against fellow title contenders, Enugu Rangers and Wikki Tourists, defeating both teams 2-0 and 1-0 respectively and that feat had in between a 1-0 win at Warri Wolves having early lost 0-2 at Plateau United. This meant that Everton helped the Nnewi club earn nine points in four matches.

Ogbeide fell short from clinching the manager’s award as Sunshine Stars took eight points from 15 in August.

Aigbogun and Bosso, unbeaten with Enyimba and El-Kanemi respectively in August, took seven and eight points in that order.

Obaje has now been named the NPFL-LBA Player of the Month for the second time this season after first winning the award in May. The league’s top scorer netted three goals in August, including a brace against MFM Everton, Obaje won NPFL-LBA August as Wikki won 2-1.

He then netted another goal that could only help his club to win a point at home against Lobi Stars in a 1-1 draw on the last day of August.

Samad Kadiri of Sunshine Stars, Ibrahim Ajani of 3SC and FC Ifeanyiubah’s Chijioke Alakwe scored two goals apiece and their efforts proved inadequate to knock off Obaje’s individual input for August.

Everton and Obaje will be presented their awards later this month.

  • Ashley Williams completes Everton switch

    Ashley Williams completes Everton switch

Everton on Wednesday signed Wales captain, Ashley Williams from English Premier League rivals, Swansea for an undisclosed fee, thought to be £12m.

The 31-year-old defender is new manager Ronald Koeman’s third summer purchase after Senegal midfielder Idrissa Gueye and goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, the BBC reports.

The club is also in talks to sign Crystal Palace midfielder, Yannick Bolasie and Sunderland defender Lamine Kone.

“I believe the club is going in the right direction,” Williams said.

The defender, who has agreed a three-year deal with the Merseyside club, said he was keen to work with former Netherlands international Koeman.

“He’s been one of the greatest defenders to ever play the game, so I look forward to learning from him,” the BBC quoted Williams as saying on the club’s website.

  • New boss Koeman to cost Everton a cool £5m

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is edging closer to taking the reins at Everton, with a compensation fee in the region of £5million understood to have been discussed.

After leading Saints to their best Premier League finish in back-to-back seasons, the 53-year-old had started negotiations about extending his stay at St Mary’s.

Former Barcelona defender Koeman had a season remaining on his three-year deal, but the Dutchman now looks set for a move to Goodison Park.

We understand a compensation fee of around £5million has been discussed and a resolution could be reached as soon as Monday.

Rob Jansen, who recently replaced Guido Albers as Koeman’s agent, told Voetbal International on Saturday that they had “reached an agreement with Everton” and “now it is up to the clubs”.

Koeman is understood to have been the first choice of the club’s new major shareholder Farhad Moshiri, although Sevilla manager Unai Emery is believed to have been preferred by some others at Goodison Park.

The Spaniard, fresh from winning a third straight Europa League, is among the bookmakers’ favourites to succeed the Dutchman at St Mary’s, along with the likes of Eddie Howe, Frank de Boer, Andre Villas-Boas and Manuel Pellegrini.

  • Everton sack Roberto Martinez

    Everton sack Roberto Martinez

Everton on Thursday sacked manager Roberto Martinez after three years in charge of the club.

Martinez’s side was defeated by champions Leicester on Saturday and lost 0-3 at Sunderland on Wednesday night, the BBC reports.

The Toffees lost in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and League Cup this season.

The club won just five league games at home all season and is guaranteed to finish with its lowest points tally at Goodison Park since the introduction of three points for a win in 1981.

The club is expected to make an official announcement imminently to confirm the decision.

There have been increasing protests against the Spaniard from supporters at recent home matches.

A banner saying “Time to go Roberto” was flown over Goodison during the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on April 30, while some Everton fans remained inside the ground for more than an hour after the match to protest against Martinez and chairman Bill Kenwright.

  • Chelsea to include Moses in deal for Everton star

Chelsea to include Moses in deal for Everton star

Chelsea is considering throwing in Nigeria winger Victor Moses as part of a deal to lure England and Everton defender, John Stones, to Stamford Bridge.

The English champion had already submitted a 20 million pounds bid for the 21-year-old England star who is seen as a long-term replacement for skipper John Terry, who has signed a year’s extension, africanFootball.com reports.

The club will now launch a fresh 26 million pounds bid with reports suggesting Everton will only do business if a bid in excess of 30 million pounds is submitted by “The Blues.”

According to Mailonline, Chelsea now believes the deal clincher will be to add Moses to the fresh 26 million pounds offer for Stones.

The ex-Wigan winger has also been linked with a move to Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur after the possibilities of a return to Stoke City, where he played on loan last season, appear to have diminished.

He is currently on a pre-season training tour of North America with Chelsea.

  • Everton´s Naismith to donate tickets to unemployed

Everton forward Steven Naismith is to donate match tickets to unemployed people in Liverpool.

Scotland international Naismith, who joined the Premier League club from Rangers two years ago, announced his gesture on Monday.

The 27-year-old has purchased tickets to a number of Everton’s home Premier League games in the upcoming season with the intention of them being distributed to those living in Liverpool who may not otherwise have the money to watch their team.

“I come from Ayrshire in the west of Scotland and spent a lot of my life in Glasgow – a city that, at times, has suffered from high unemployment,” Naismith explained.

“Liverpool has a similar history and I am aware that, through no fault of their own, there are many unemployed in Liverpool trying hard to find a job who may not be able to afford a ticket.

“I thought this might be a small gesture to help those in that situation to enjoy a day out at one of our league matches.

“Hopefully it can bring some joy to many people.

“I have asked the Jobcentre Plus if they could give the tickets to different job centres across the city each week and select people who are unemployed through no fault of their own, are trying hard to find employment and who would enjoy watching a Premier League match.
