  • Fans chide AY over BBN joke

Fans chide AY over BBN joke

After this year’s edition of AY Live Easter show, some fans of comedian Ayo Makun, otherwise called AY, have frowned at one of his jokes, which centered on the incident between Big Brother Naija housemates T-Boss and Kemen.
Tagging the incident a ‘small touch’, AY who called the Big Brother housemates on stage during the show asked Nigerians to support him and forget what happened by forgiving him, which saw other comedian focusing their talk on the same matter.
But fans took to AY’s Instagram page to vent their displeasure about what they considered a sour joke.
@Tmamuwo wrote “What is bad is bad. Celebrities are supposed to be positive people we look up to. My heart aches that @aycomedian made a joke out of this. I respect his wife a lot as an interior designer this is really too much and really off it. To think the likes of @funkejenifaakindele and the other female comedian were involved in this kinda hope. It’s a shame.”
@preciousmofunanya “@officialtboss_ I suggest you take a break from all this public functions for now and gather as much counsel as you need before stepping out. God has made you a star and no one can take that away from you but you need counsel like never before to manage this fame. To be honest with you @aycomedian, I didn’t like the joke you cracked with TBoss and Kemen yesterday and then you are posting your pix with her, that’s even more disgusting of you. Can someone treat your wife and daughter that way and you still make a joke of it.”
@olapey “You can’t joke with that kind of stuff… how would you feel if it was your daughter that this happened to? Haba all in the name of jokes and a hit show.”
@iddy4real “AY u really made kemen so uncomfortable with your expensive joke lastnite… U weren’t doing him any Good at all. Pls mind d kind of joke u crack.”
Recall that Kemen was disqualified from the Big Brother Naija show on March 5, 2017 after T-Boss said she didn’t consent to his furtive moments with her under the sheets.
Though AY was spotted with T-boss after the show taking pictures together, at the after party, his fans still believe he has no right to use such scenario as one of his jokes.

  • SON seals off factory over substandard fans

SON seals off factory over substandard fans

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has clamped down on a company at Abule Oshun, Lagos, for manufacturing substandard fans.

SON Director of Compliance & Enforcement Mr. Bede Obayi, told The Nation that the agency acted based on surveillance. He said HangFair International Company Limited, which claimed to have imported the fans from China actually manufacture them in their warehouse without conformity to standard practice.

He said the company was involved in counterfeiting and faking, using a SON registration number given to another manufacturer who went through the agency’s standards procedures.

Obayi regretted that the genuine manufacturer is somewhere believing he has done something right by registering his product with SON, but unknown to him somebody in Abule Oshun was reaping his benefit.

The SON director said: “This man is doing nothing but simply reaping where he did not sow. We have the mandate to close the factory, which we have done and until his product goes through our mandatory assessment programme (MANCAP), we will ensure he does not go back to his illicit business, we insist that the procedure is right.”

Obayi accused the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Uchenna Ugah, of depriving people the benefit of enjoying the cash they spend on his products.

He further accused him of using ISO 9002, which SON has discontinued since 1987, stressing that it shows the ignorance of the manufacturer on the need to adhere to quality standards.

Obayi said SON insists that manufacturers do the right thing, especially as the Federal Government is diversifying the economy and encouraging Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME).

Kano fans break Moses Effiong’s (MON) head

Irate fans descended heavily on coach Effiong Moses shortly after Kano Pillars were beaten 1-0 by Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano yesterday.

Former Enyimba striker, Christain Pygbara scored the only goal of the encounter for the coach Abdul Maikaba-led side in the 19th minute of the explosive match.

SportingLife gathered that the defeat didn’t go down well with hoodlums suspected to be fans of the home team who pounced on officials of Akwa United and inflicted serious bodily harm on coach Effiong Moses (MON), a member of the Green Eagles side that won the first Nations Cup title for the country in 1980.

The fans did not spare Pillars’ coach Kadiri Ikhana who was reportedly beaten to a stupor while  missiles and other dangerous objects were hurled at match officials, who barely made it to the dressing room with the help of the police.

The police were then forced to fire tear-gas to disperse the irate fans.

Akwa United chairman Paul Bassey told SCORENigeria: “The fans just went crazy. They first attacked the referees and then their coach (Ikhana).

Akwa United, who were led by Kano-born coach Abdul Maikaba, inflicted Pillars their first home loss this season.

The League Management Company (LMC) is expected to make a pronouncement on the issue soon.

  • BBNAIJA: POLITICIANS, FANS UP THE STAKES

TODAY makes it a day to the end of the second edition of the Big Brother reality show targeted at Nigerians. With five remaining housemates, the race will be over by 7pm tomorrow when a winner will be crowned. It will end and one of Efe, T-Boss, Debie-Rise, Bisola or Marvis will win N25m, an SUV and other goodies to follow. That these young Nigerians have put up an entertaining show is beyond dispute. But they will need massive votes and on Thursday, they had their last chance to campaign for votes. Outside the house, the battle for votes has caught the attention of fans and politicians, including some state governors who are putting their resources to vote their favourite housemates.

When 14 Nigerians were housed in a South African building competing in the Nigerian version of the global franchise, Big Brother Naija, naturally sparks could happen and throughout, it has been a case of ‘one day, one drama.’ While Nigerians asked why a show about Nigerians was taking place in South Africa? The producers gave valid reasons as stable power as responsible for the show being taken to SA. It won.

And Nigerians finally settled to enjoy the show. Starting with 12 housemates aged between 23 and 36 drawn from different walks of life, the controversy of strangers living together without distractions of modern life to recourse to started.

With the house full, the housemates got to know each other and there was no eviction in the first two weeks. By this time, the housemates had started finding loved and some couples started forming. The game had begun. Given the basics of life – food, shelter and clothing – and without phones, internet, television or radio, the housemates had themselves to contend with. Their favourite pastime was playing Whot and ‘Truth or Dare’ (which revealed a lot), especially after they had drunk alcohol. And to add to the intrigues, two new housemates – Bassey and Debbie-Rise were later added to the house.

After two weeks, Miyonse and Soma were evicted and after the third week, Coco Ice was let out of the house, having scored the least votes from viewers. This was a day before she had let Bassey suck her boobs after a ‘truth or dare’ game. Week in week out, the intrigues went up as housemates were evicted one after the other, remaining the top five.

In the early days, the Jacuzzi sessions and a kissing festival ensued many of the housemates shared erotic moments. Certain Nigerians felt the show had too much sexual content and didn’t portray Nigerian values and should be scrapped. Through newspaper, television, radio and online reports, these Nigerians, including a lawmaker, asked the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation to censor the show. Of course, nothing came out of the request. DSTv already rated the show a Parental Guidance (PG).

And with the votes trooping for their various housemates, it was certain the Nigerians’ interest in the show was rising. A viral message went around stating that by a fortnight ago, over 11, 000, 000 votes were recorded, signifying a definite interest in the show.

  • Iyanya: Strange things female fans do to me

Iyanya: Strange things female fans do to me

Few months after joining Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records, former Triple MG front man, Iyanya, is currently working on his Extended Play (EP) which he is expected to drop this month. The multiple-award winning artiste speaks with ADEWOYIN ADENIYI on why he left his former label which he co-owned, his decision to join Mavin Records, past relationship, among other issues. Excerpts.

Our music sounds different nowadays, what’s happening?

Yeah the sound is different; shout out to Don Jazzy. I’m learning new stuff. You always think that you’re there, you always think you know it all until you start working with somebody who knows more than you and you see that you have more stuff to learn. So, I’m thankful, everything is fresh now.

Now that you’ve switched styles, aren’t you scared you might lose some of your fans?

Good music is good music. As long as you continue to drop good music, people who appreciate good music will continue to feel you. As I always say, my plan is to give the fans music that they will appreciate, not for three months but as long as the brand Iyanya is in existence. I want people to be like ‘yea, this is a good song’ every time I perform, not just trying to score hit. So I don’t think the fans have any problem with it because these are the same fans who tweet at us, the same fans who make videos doing challenges and stuffs.

Your Extended Play (EP) drops on March 28; what should your fans expect?

My EP is a fusion of both the new and old Iyanya. I have worked with new producers now. There’s reggae, highlife, RnB, there’s something for everybody on the EP.

Who are you collaborating with on the EP?

Yes, we have Tiwa Savage on it already; we are at that collaboration stage now; we are not done with collaborations yet.

How many tracks will be on the EP?

The EP is titled Signature. So I have a song titled Signature on it. I definitely have My Queen, I have World Class, and so we have twelve tracks.

You have Roc Nation at your disposal; should we be expecting an international collaboration?

That’s the main reason why Roc Nation is distributing worldwide, because they will be representing me in America. They are going to help me out with collaborations, they are going to make sure I’m on mainstream American stations and also VP records, so the collaboration with Roc Nation will definitely come.

Can you shed more light on your visit to Roc Nation?

It was a great one. They were very happy to receive me. I mentioned a song earlier called World Class. That’s one of the songs they picked and I was very excited. Before we left their office, they were all singing the song.

So how do you feel collaborating with Jay Z’s label?

You know they have that platform where every artiste needs to reach out to the world. Roc Nation is a big movement, they will definitely add to my brand.

Looking back at the time you won Project Fame until now, was there a time you thought about giving up?

So many times. It took me about two years before I got Kukere because I just won Project Fame. And when I was in Project Fame, I thought that when I win Project Fame, I was going to do that RnB song and MTN would use their platform to promote that new sound but I discovered that even MTN want to do commercial. Of course after the competition, I did a couple of RnB songs and they went like, ‘look, you have to do what the street want’ and I was like, wow, so I was confused for a while that I even started selling stuffs at Obalende market.

    Stuffs like what?

Yea, I had my hood on and went in there and the guy that was picking stuff for me said No be you win Project Fame? I said no, not me, because I was trying to survive. After that Project Fame, everybody thought 2.5million naira was a big deal, till you get a whole lot and you realise it can’t really do a thing for you. So after that, I had more family and friends looking for money. Everybody just believed that I made it but I just started. Project Fame was just a kick-off.

How come you had to sell after winning Project Fame?

I’m not saying I had a shop oh! You know I did some small MTN shows. So I went to Obalende. I picked some stuffs and had it in my car and I would see somebody and be like, ‘hey man, I brought stuff oh’ (laughs). You know, it was funny some people would take stuff and won’t even know how to chase them for the money. At the end of the day, I had to take some Nigerian albums like Wande Coal’s M2M, Style Plus album too and all the popping Nigerian albums. I was listening to them word to word because I wanted to know how they did it and I also spent a lot of time with some already big artistes back then.

What is the craziest thing a female fan has done to you?

Female fans do a lot of things; they grab your balls, they scratch. I love what I’m doing and I know what comes with it, thank God for the grace to manage all that stuff.

    Do you believe in love?

Yes, I believe people can find love, fall in love. You know, he who finds a wife finds a good thing.

As you said earlier, have you at a time found love and her parents rejected you?

    Yes, like two, three times.

Has the Yvonne Nelson’s experience cost you a lot?

I won’t say it cost me a lot. I will say it just makes people think that’s who I am. It just gave me that bad guy image. I’m not the kind of guy that thinks I owe social media explanation when my relationship goes bad; it’s not like social media is going to help you fix it but it’s going to make it worse. There are so many times I played the quiet guy and the girl does the talking and you know how people are.

So what’s your relationship with Yvonne now?

We are cool; we talk once in a while.

A lot of people thought you were going to float your own record label when you left Triple MG?

I figured out that at a point I needed to fix my music; it wasn’t about my label actually, it was about me dropping music. And guess what, the fans are not so crazy about labels, they are crazy about music. You can own twenty labels, if you’re not dropping music, they don’t really care. You know every time they play my songs on radio I’ll be like, ‘I can do better than this’ not because my songs are not good enough but because I just feel I can still do something better. That was why I talked with Don Jazzy. I don’t need to prove to anybody that I’m a boss. What I need to do is good music.

How soon should your fans be expecting Hold On video?

Yes, Hold On video is dropping pretty soon and we should also be dropping two, three more from the EP before the year runs out.

Can you describe your ideal woman?

I think we can only find ideal women in the movies where they say ‘play this role’ and she plays the role perfectly. I don’t know what ideal woman means. For me, love is all about loving the imperfect side of people. Love is when you’re able to accept the imperfect side of people and help them get perfect.

Let’s talk about settling down because you’re not getting any younger

When I finally find that woman I wanna settle down with, I don’t think I will bring it to the media because I’ve not seen anyone wey dey for media wey work, I’ve not seen any marriage wey media help. So when I finally decide to settle down I will just do it quietly because I feel like my life is public enough.

It was alleged that you left triple MG because of Lilian Esoro.

No, I didn’t leave Triple MG because of Lilian. Lilian is such an amazing person. I left triple MG because it was time for me to leave; nobody signs a contract for life. It’s only in Nigeria that people think you have to be somebody for life and when you decide to leave the person they say they don break up, business dey get expiry date. Our contract was done, it was time for us to move on.

But you were a co-owner of the label…

    Yes.

Did you sell your share of the company?

I’m not allowed to talk about that aspect of the business.

Some even thought you left because you were scared Tekno was taking your shine

Anybody can think anything but I know why I left.

You recently starred in a movie; are you looking at going fully into acting?

After this entire music thing, I’m going to be a proper movie director. I will go to America and enrol in film school.

  • 1,400 fans to watch Iwobi, Iheanacho

1,400 fans to watch Iwobi, Iheanacho

When the Nigeria’s Super Eagles battle Senegal in today’s international friendly, only a pantry of 1400 will watch the encounter at the Hive.

And The Hive, being a League 2 grounds, is not only far less expensive to hire than some of the bigger stadiums, it also has on-site training facilities, which make it a one-stop shop for travelling teams.

Coupled with a large British-Nigerian population in London – the 2011 census suggested over 100,000 Nigerian-born Brits live in the capital – it seems a decent prospect.

Indeed, you might expect a large appetite to see their stars in the flesh playing for the Super Eagles against top quality opposition. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

If you thought attendances were bad for tournaments like the Cup of Nations, where stadiums are often under half full, today’s ticket sales are something of a shock.

With entry as little as £10 for adults in some areas, and £5 for under-14s, and such a plethora of Premier League stars on show, you would hope for a decent turn-out, given the dearth of quality football available during an international break.

The Hive holds a little over 6,000 fans, is incredibly easy to access by public transport, and is convenient for many of London’s vast number of football supporters. Surely it should be full for a showpiece fixture, even if it is a friendly!

  • AFTERMATH OF PLATEAU UTD DRAW: Fans pelt Boboye with stones

AFTERMATH OF PLATEAU UTD DRAW: Fans pelt Boboye with stones

Plateau United head coach, Kennedy Boboye was a subject of fans’ backlash at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos on Wednesday after his side lost their 100 percent home record in their goalless draw against Lobi Stars in a NPFL Match Day 11 tie.

Even though the draw ensured the Tin City side are still on top of the NPFL the fans were allegedly angry with Boboye over their perceived poor selection by the gaffer and they allegedly pelted him with stone immediately the game ended before he ran for cover.

SportingLife gathered from Jos sources that the fans were angry at the fielding of Sadiq Yusuf and Ogene Elijah who were very poor in their defensive midfield and right back positions on Wednesday insisting that Jimmy Ambrose ought to have started in place of injured Chima Ndukwu while a better alternative other than Ogene should have been used in place of the suspended Salomon Junior.

A source further told SportingLife that the General Manager of the club, Pius Henwan summoned the technical crew headed by Boboye to a crucial meeting to explain the reason behind the team’s poor display against Lobi Stars and the fact that the team’s blushes were saved by goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye in what almost turned to be a home loss for them.

Plateau United are top of the league table with 21 points from 11 games but albeit on goals difference with El Kanemi Warriors on the same number of points and they are on the road to 3SC in a Match Day 12 tie this weekend.
