But for ‘Ariwo Ko’ crooner, Adekunle Gold, who also took part in the One Lagos Fiesta, the new year presented a temporary avenue to rest. “I can finally rest my voice for few days after today’s show,” he said in the early hours of the new year.

But for DJ Spinall whose album, TEN, also made waves in the latter part of the year when it was released, the new year is no time to rest as he was already slated to perform on January 1, 2017 at the Classic DJs 10 at Hard Rock Café in Lagos.

On his part, Phyno, whose track, ‘Fada Fada’ was a hit in 2016, he simply expressed his love to fans and urged them to motivate each other. “Happy new year my fam,” he tweeted.

“I love u guys so much. Let’s get it this year. Motivate anybody around you. It’s time.”

It was also a similar greeting from Bez Idakula. “Happy New Year from the Idakulas,” he tweeted. “May your year be happy, beautiful, bright and full of love!”

Leader of the Supreme Mavin Dynasty, Don Jazzy, also greeted his fans, saying, “Welcome to 2017. I have been waiting for y’all. God bless us.”

However, Mavin’s first lady, Tiwa Savage, started 2017 by doing another kind of work. Savage, who is a brand ambassador for Pampers, posted a picture where she holds her baby boy, Jamil and promoting the brand.

“Every mom cherishes precious moments shared with their babies,” Tiwa who recently reconciled with her hubby said. “Thanks, Pampers for keeping Jamil dry and happy for me.”

Also, Kiss Daniel, who was also very busy during the holidays, had thanked his fans on December 29, 2016 before the new year was heralded. “Thank you all for a wonderful 2016,” wrote Kiss Daniel who won ‘Best Pop Artiste of the year’ at SoundCity MVP 2016. “2017 is gonna be a mind blowing experience for everyone. ENTER INTO THE NEW YEAR WITH PRAISE. God bless.”

Femi Kuti, estranged wife shock fans at Felabration

It was a sight for sore eyes at Felabration 2016 a few days ago when afrobeats maestro, Femi Kuti, and his estranged wife, Funke Kuti, set aside lingering animosity to engage each other in series of hugs on the red carpet to the applause of everyone present. As they celebrated together, onlookers were reminded of the days when the going was good between the son of the late afrobeat exponent, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the one-time love of his life.

Femi and Funke were two of the hottest couples in town until their marriage hit the rocks. The two got separated 10 years ago in a much-publicised incident, but the divorce papers did not arrive until a couple years ago. It was reliably gathered that the two have since decided to bury the hatchet for the sake of their son, Made, and are now best of friends. Their fans and admirers have, however, not given up hope that the two will somehow get back together as a couple.

Funke certainly isn’t doing anything to discourage them as she took to posting some pictures of her and Femi together on social media.

J’odie, who is popularly known for preaching against premarital sex, welcomed her baby boy in an undisclosed hospital.

Perhaps unknown to the couple, fans have been keeping tab with the singers marital activities, more because she has been known to go tough on those who engage in premarital sex.

  • Fans decry Wizkid, Linda Ikeji over altercation

Fans decry Wizkid, Linda Ikeji over altercation

Forty eight hours after Linda Ikeji’s response to Singer Wizkid, the latter is yet to counter the revelations made by the blogger.

Some fans of the Ojuelegba crooner who have been taking sides on different social media platforms eagerly await a response from him, wondering if there is any truth in the blogger’s responses, one of which indicated that Wizkid does not own his Lekki home, as claimed.

Linda had also alleged that Wizkid got his Porsche automobile on hire purchase.

While many have continued to criticise Linda and Wizkid for their behavior, popular filmmaker and critic, Charles Novia lent his voice in a recent post to the ongoing imbroglio between the two celebrities. He spoke about the expectations of the audience from them both as public figures, alluding to the fact that they had fallen far below the expectations of their fans.

He said: This means that while some measure of success demands some form of etiquette from Linda, now living among the elites, same is not expected ( even if demanded) from Wizkid.”

Speaking further, Novia explained that Wizkid’s reaction was expected, considering his background, but that much more was expected from Linda considering her present position. He said, “Wizkid’s reaction was true-to-type. He’s a street kid. A Surulere or Ojuelegba product and he’s not expected to have any chill. Unlike Linda, who’s also from a poor background and has some understanding of the rules of the streets of Surulere. Wizkid is a supposed nouveau rich kid whose fame and fortune are grounded in the music of his streets.”

Novia was quick to add that although Linda was only doing her job, it was tactlessly and vengefully done. As he put it, “Putting up the post yesterday of the eviction notice given to Wizkid was perhaps an intuitive gossip obligation she felt she had to share; after all she’s a known gossip blogger. But it was tactlessly done and exposed an underlying beef which was waiting for an opportunity to get back.

Continuing his post, Novia advised Linda that the power of music in the present age, and Wizkid’s cult status in the African music industry makes it difficult, if not impossible to win a war of words with him, as Chief Dele Momodu can attest to. Saying that all Wizkid need do is to set some abusive words to music, and the rest is history. In the end, he advised the two cult figures to bury the hatchet.

Some fans of both Ikeji and Wizkid have continued to voice their disapproval of both parties’ unruly behavior.  A fan of Ikeji said, ”I am disappointed that an influential person like Ikeji can descend so low by engaging in war of words with a younger Wizkid. I can’t believe that an older and respected woman like Linda Ikeji can stoop so low to give that child the time of the day”. Another said he had lost respect for both, and it would require them to compete for his respect, saying, “I don’t know why they are displaying ignorance and acting immature”. Another Wizkid fan expressed her contempt stating that both parties needed a reality check saying, “Both of them are just displaying an act of foolishness and it is amazing how ignorant they are, and I am really disappointed. Wizkid, who is my star, is feeling bitter because his fake life has been revealed to us, the fans. Continuing she said, ”He needs to get his act together and not embarrass us.”
