PDP in terminal comatose without hope of survival— Fayose

Former Ekiti Governor,  Ayodele Fayose, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is in a state of terminal comatose with no sign of political survival in sight.

Speaking with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, on Sunday, Fayose said that the party has lost its soul and direction with some of the leaders  and the current National Working Committee (NWC) acting as “undertakers” presiding over its burial.

The former Governor lamented that the opposition PDP, which once ruled Nigeria for 16 years, has become a shadow of itself due to internal crises, leadership failure, lack of ideological focus as well as selfish interest.

He expressed utter disappointment that the party’s current political  trajectory  offers no glimmer of hope for political revival in view of the collateral damages allegedly done on PDP by Damagum and his cohorts.

“There is no hope of PDP coming back for now.Even the captains of the ship are jumping from one bed to another. Who will hold the party together? The current NWC are undertakers who have come to bury the PDP.  The Governors are leaving, leaders are defecting. Where are the pillars holding the party?”

He likened the party’s condition to that of a patient on life support, insisting that only radical surgical intervention could restore life to opposition PDP and save it from total collapse.

Fayose, however, expressed doubt about any immediate recovery, saying that the signs were not encouraging as those at the helm of affairs appeared indifferent to the party’s worsening condition.

“The PDP is in comatose, under intensive life support. Until someone responds to treatment, you can’t say there’s hope. But as it is now, there’s no sign of life,” he said.

He explained the suspension of the party’s national chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum, and the emergence of Alhaji Mohammed Abdurahman as the acting chairman represent another phase in the PDP’s crisis, warning that unless the new leadership moves swiftly to reconcile warring factions, PDP risks sliding into permanent political irrelevance.

He accused Damagum of manipulating his way into office and running the party aground, describing his suspension as “long overdue and good riddance to bad rubbish”.

“Damagum caused so much confusion everywhere. He was incompetent and manipulated the process to become chairman. His suspension is in order, and I can assure you that he will go the way of Iyorchia Ayu,” Fayose said.

The former Governor commended the emergence of Abdurahman, urging him to act quickly to by uniting the aggrieved members, conducting state congresses as ordered by the courts, and organised national convention in strict complaince with party constitution.

“The party needs a leader who  can reunite everybody at this particular time.

You never can tell. You can find a doctor in Abdurahman who is willing to turn the table around for the party. But as it stands, the PDP is in terminal comatose without hope of survival.”

Fayose dismissed the  ongoing blame game within the  party, stressing that the era of apportioning blames and trading accusations should give way to sincere efforts at rebuilding.

The ex-Governor maintained that rather than apportioning blame, genuine and committed leaders of the PDP should focus their energy on reviving the party and restoring its lost glory.

“The problem has gone beyond who caused it. Even our presidential and vice-presidential candidates in 2023 have left the party. Governors have left. What is left is the carcass of the dead body of a dead man,” he lamented.

2026: Ekiti stakeholders knock APC gov aspirant for attacking Fayose, Fayemi, others

Concerned stakeholders in Ekiti State have lashed out at the All Progressives Congress governorship aspirant, Kayode Ojo for dismissing the legacies of past governors including Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Ayodele Fayose and Kayode Fayemi.

Ojo, while addressing journalists at the APC National Secretariat, Abuja, where he submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms for the June 20 governorship poll, accused successive administrations in the state of “holding Ekiti down,” further claiming the state ranked 29th out of Nigeria’s 36 states in education.

However, some concerned stakeholders under the auspices of Renewed Media Agenda, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Dr. Akeju Akinsola described Ojo’s claims as “false, arrogant, and calculated insult to the collective memory of Ekiti people.”

Akinsola said Ojo’s utterances amounted to a direct insult to all former governors who have led the state from 1999 to date, including the incumbent, Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

He argued that since the creation of Ekiti in 1996, no administration has left the state without enduring legacies as well as tangible achievements that can’t be dismissed.

He said, “This careless and reckless speech is the height of irresponsibility and a clear sign that Ojo lacks the temperament, humility, and maturity required for leadership,” the group declared.

“In Yorubaland, we are taught to honour elders and preserve legacies. For Ojo to stand before the cameras and discredit every past governor of Ekiti is not only irresponsible but also an insult to history and culture.”

“Since Ekiti state creation in 1996, every leader both civilian and military, has contributed to the state’s progress in infrastructure, education, health care, ICT, agriculture, and governance reforms. From the construction of roads, schools, and hospitals to water supply schemes, power projects, and technology hubs. administration has left the state without tangible achievements”.

He further noted that the people of Ekiti, known for their sophistication and deep respect for education and culture, would never entrust their future to a politician who insults their elders and distorts their history.

“Kayode Ojo’s reckless words have already disqualified him in the court of public opinion, Ekiti people are not fools. We know the progress we have made, and we will never allow someone who insults elders, undermines our history, and traffics in lies to govern us”, Akinsola said.

Akinsola who dismissed Ojo’s claims on education as a lie from the pit of hell, said Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) places Ekiti among the most educated states in Nigeria, with a literacy rate of 95.79%, one of the highest in the country.

He highlighted Ekiti’s strong record in external examination, noting that the state consistently ranks in the top 10 nationwide.

“In the latest WAEC results, Ekiti secured a 75.48% pass rate in five credits, including English and Mathematics, compared to the national average of 72.12%. Independent studies by UNICEF, NBS, and Zikoko also ranked Ekiti the third most educated state in Nigeria in 2024/25, behind only Imo and Lagos.

“With five universities including Afe Babalola University and the Ekiti State University, ranked the best state-owned university in Nigeria in 2024, Ekiti state has proven itself as a centre of learning,” he added.

2027 Presidency: Wike, Fayose, Adebutu incur wrath of PDP pro-Jonathan big shots …for endorsing Tinubu

    • Lamido advocates Wike’s, Ortom’s, others’ expulsion

The plot to draft ex-President Goodluck Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race appears to be gathering steam.

His supporters in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday launched what some political observers interpreted to be part of the underground work to clear the way for his emergence as the party’s flag bearer.

The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) warned party members against further endorsing President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

Although it did not mention the names of party members who have endorsed the President so far, the NWC branded their action as anti-party.

This, according to it, has continued to “impact negatively on the PDP, leading to division, disaffection and heavy haemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish our party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.”

Top members of the PDP including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the state chapter of the party, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose as well as the Ogun State chapter of PDP led by the Chairman, Abayomi Tella, and the 2023 governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, had at different times said they were for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking for the PDP NWC in a statement yesterday, National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the wave of endorsements was an affront on the party.

His words: ““The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reviewed the anti-party activities of certain members of the party, particularly those endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

“Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our Party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances, including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 Presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our Party.

“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that ‘NO MEMBER of the Party SHALL align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government’.

“In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution.

“The NWC charges all members of the Party to remain loyal, focused and continue to work assiduously towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention scheduled to hold on the 15th and 16th November, 2025 in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.”

The statement comes on the heels of a hint dropped earlier in the week by former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Chief Olabode George, that Jonathan was highly qualified to seek re-election as president on the platform of the party.

“He’s very qualified because he did not leave the party. The more the merrier,” George said in an interview.

He added: “All those who say they want to contest should wait till 2035. He is the easiest to sell because he has a track record, especially the economic indices Nigeria witnessed during his tenure.”

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party at its recent 101st meeting in Abuja categorically zoned the 2027 presidential ticket to the south.

A northern state governor has been in the forefront of the underground moves to draft Jonathan into the 2027 presidential race.

The governor was a minister under Jonathan.

Party sources said he would not mind to be Jonathan’s running mate, and if the ticket prevails in the 2027 election, he would be in a good stead to run for the presidency himself.

However, there are concerns about the provisions of Sections 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which restrict someone who has been sworn in as president twice from being elected into the same office for more than a single term.

The Section stipulates thus: “A person who was sworn-in as President to complete the term for which another person was elected as president shall not be elected to such office for more than a single term.”

Two months ago, former first lady Patience Jonathan hinted that her husband would not be in the 2027 race.

She committed her family to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an award ceremony in Abuja, Dame Patience said: “We don’t have two presidents. I am outspoken—if I don’t like something, I will say it. But if I like something, I die with it.

“I believe in one President. I believe in turn by turn. When it’s your turn, I will support you. When it’s not your turn, step back—so that the country can move forward.”

Wike, Ortom, others must be expelled for campaigning against party — Lamido

For ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, it is expulsion of Nyesom Wike; former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom; former Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, and other PDP members or nothing, for allegedly working against the party during the 2023 general elections.

Lamido said on Channels Television yesterday that it was time to end what he called the long-standing culture of impunity within the party.

“All those erring members, the Wikes, the Ortoms, the Ikpeazus and others, who openly campaigned against the PDP in the 2023 elections, and who say that they are going to work for APC in 2027, should be sacked from the party,” he said.

Continuing, the former foreign affairs minister said: “From way back after the primaries of 2022 leading to the elections of 2023, there are people who, because of their own interest and ambition, felt aggrieved about what transpired in the party’s convention and what they felt was not being able to address their interests as individuals at the elections.

“And they turned out against the party and fought the party. We’ve been having this kind of problem: the impunity of people castrating the party and denouncing it.

“In the constitution, if you breach the party’s code, you are sanctioned. But somehow, going into a ditch, the party executives are now alive to their responsibilities.”

Lamido vowed to keep off meetings of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT) until disciplinary action is taken against those who worked against the party.

He also expressed support for Jonathan’s return as president on the platform of PDP, saying: ““I think for PDP now they should try and woo him; he is their best bet. To me, he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him.

“He is most welcomed, competent and very qualified. To me, I welcome him into the PDP. I think so far in the PDP, with all respect to all members, I don’t see a better alternative than Jonathan if he comes to the PDP.

“I don’t see any other person, really. If we are giving the presidency to the South, it will be the PDP. Who is there in PDP now that can challenge Jonathan in terms of being in office, being full-headed, being somebody who is willing to listen, and somebody who is also a key player who believes in partnership?”

South must retain Presidency in 2027, say Niger Delta leaders

Some Niger Delta leaders have asked northern stakeholders agitating for power shift to their zone in 2027 to exercise restraint and wait for their turn in 2031.

The Niger Delta leaders say the south must be allowed to complete its tenure.

The Secretary, Itsekiri Leaders of Thought (ILOT); Sir Amorighoye Mene; former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye; a human rights lawyer, Oghenejabor Ikimi and a popular Niger Delta activist, Fyneface Dumnamene, urged the agitators to support a southern President in 2027.

Mene said any attempt to shift power to the north in 2027 would not only jeopardise the country’s unity, but would also breed inequity and unfairness towards Nigeria’s southerners.

He maintained that the mutual understanding of power rotation following the June 12, 1993 saga, has served as a lesson that anything otherwise could shred Nigeria’s existence.

“In Nigeria today, there is the understanding that power should rotate between the North and the South, even though it is not embedded in the constitution because the unity of this country will be jeopardised.

“That is why the two major parties in 1999 had southerners as candidates, having learnt from the June 12 saga. There is bound to be equity and fairness,” he said.

He added: “For the interest of this country, for us to remain one, power should remain in the South. The reason PDP is what it is today is because of the principle of rotation of power.

“The south must retain President in 2027. If there is anything otherwise, then the basis of our coexistence will be in issue. What is fair is fair. They should not push Nigeria to the precipice. By 2031, we can then back the northern candidate of our choice.”

Former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye said Nigerians would decide their President in 2027.

He said Tinubu is doing well and he wants to see Tinubu re-elected President.

He said: “There is a subsisting government who is doing well. He is putting a lot of structures in place that will turn around the country in economic, security and investment sense. 2027 is another year of election where the current President knows that he will be presenting his report card.

“Upon his performance, the Nigeria people will decide whether to reelect him or not. I am not going to be discussing the politics of power sharing. My concern is that there is a subsisting president and he is doing his best. It is not time to adjudge or not.

“If by 2027, Nigerians will decide who to vote for. This President is likely to seek re-election. Anybody could be interested to contest. What concerns me is that the one sitting there is doing well and I will support his re-election.”

Human rights lawyer, Oghenejabor Ikimi, noted that while there is no law backing power rotation between the North and the South, the “gentleman’s agreement” ensures that the country remains united.

Ikimi, the Executive Director, Centre for the Vulnerable and Underprivileged (CENTREP), said: “There is no law that says it should not go to the North. The rotation of power is a gentleman’s agreement. Those agitating are just politicians whose lives depend on politics. They are just blackmailing the present President.

“You don’t play politics with everything; they are just dividing the nation into two. They know what they are gaining from politics. They are not going there to make any impact. When your politics has become a lucrative business, then you will do anything to get power.

Another Niger Delta right activist in Port Harcourt, Dr. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, vehemently kicked against the agitation for power shift to the North in 2027, describing it as unfair to the South.

Fyneface, who is the Executive Director of Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC)- Nigeria, said the South is entitled to remain in power till 2031, and that anything other than that would be an invitation to crisis.

He said: “All political parties in Nigeria should be fair to the South and field only Southern candidates as their presidential flag bearer in 2027.

“Now what will happen is that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the poll, he will complete south’s tenure and return the power to the North. But if another person wins, the person will do only one term and return power to the North.

“Any northerner running for President in 2027 and any political party fielding a Northern candidate for 2027 to oust a Southern candidate is being ungrateful and inconsiderate to the South”.

Fayose, Oni, Adebayo, Aiyedatiwa, others endorse Tinubu, Oyebanji for second term

Former Ekiti State governors Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Ayodele Fayose, Segun Oni and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term in office.

The duo were openly endorsed during a statewide endorsement held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital which was attended by prominent politicians, labour union leaders, market women, artisans, traditional rulers and other critical stakeholders from across the state.

Former governor Kayode Fayemi was conspicuously absent and he didn’t sent a representative to stand-in for him at the event.

The motion for Tinubu’s endorsement was moved by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by the lawmaker representing Ekiti East, Emure and Gboyin federal constituency, Femi Bamisile.

Similarly, the endorsement of Governor Oyebanji and his deputy, Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye, was moved by Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, and seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Bolaji Egbeyemi.

    Both motions were unanimously adopted

by hundreds of Ekiti residents present at the gathering through thunderous voice votes.

Thereafter, a letter communicating the president’s endorsement was presented to the APC National Secretary, Dr Ajibola Basics.

At the event, two leaders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Biodun Olujimi; and Obafemi Adewale, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria as well as member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Babatunde Omotola from the Social Democratic Party defected to the APC.

Speaking at the event, Fayose declared his unflinching support for the re-election of the President and the continuation of Oyebanji’s administration, despite being a member of the opposition.

The former governor described the event as a watershed in the political history of Ekiti, noting the significance of having all former governors, state leaders, and National Assembly members from Ekiti in attendance.

He said their collective presence was a ” remarkable show of unity and a sign of political maturity”, describing the unity among ex-Ekiti governors as a model for all states in Nigeria.

Fayose who vowed not to ever join the APC for any reason, said his support for President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji was based on their performance as well as their character.

“I am not a member of his party and I will never be, but I stand here to say I have seen the good work. I must commend Governor Oyebanji’s humility and his rare leadership style. He deserves another term.

“I hereby endorse, without reservation, President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

I also endorse our governor, Oyebanji and his deputy for a second term,” the ex- governor added.

In his remarks, former governors Segun Oni and Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo said governor Oyebanji has done creditably well in unifying the political leaders in the state across party lines and upscaling development.

Oni who said President Tinubu and the governor deserves second term in view of their giant developmental strides in the areas of infrastructures, agriculture, education, economy, healthcare, youth development and other pivotal areas of development.

He said, “I’m here to say the Nigeria of our dream is coming gradually. And since Nigeria of our dream is coming, Ekiti of our dream is near. One thing governor Oyebanji has done better that us is his ability to bring people together. We now have a great opportunity to take Ekiti forward together and make it greater.

“This Ekiti must not just be a mention in Nigeria’s political equation. It must be a dominate feature in the political matrix. I mean by working together, our dream we can make Ekiti great and a state of our dream”.

On his part, the APC National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru said President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji deserves another term given their excellent scorecard in office.

Basiru said no political force or coalition can stop President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying majority of Nigerians are absolutely ready to pay him back for his performance.

The APC National Secretary said that the African Democratic Party pose no threat to Tinubu’s second term, describing it as a conglomeration of expired and light-weight politicians.

He warned Nigerians to beware of the ADC and its leaders, saying they have nothing to offer the people but only to disrupt development trajectory being witnessed under President Tinubu-led administration.

“We heard some betrayals have been making fishy moves in Yoruba land, telling you to move to ADC. APC is supposed to be the only political party for Yorubaland.

“We are delighted to receive this letter of Endorsement. We have confidence that when it comes to election, all and sundry in Ekiti will cast their votes for the President.

“We thank the Governor for the good work he’s doing in the state, this Endorsement is borne out of his good work, that’s why everything is happening”.

Also speaking, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa declared that the Governor Oyebanji in the last three years has demonstrated capacity and commitment towards the development of the state.

Aiyedatiwa added that no fewer than 23 governors under the APC has declared their support for the governor’s re-election so as to consolidate his achievements in the state.

” I am here today in solidarity with my brother and friend, Governor Biodun Oyebanji and to declare my total support for his second term because je has touched lives across all sectors of the economy.

” Let me inform our people in Ekiti State that all of us in the Progressives Governors Forum are in support for the governor to continue in office till 2030,” he said.

In his acceptance speech, the visibly elated Governor Oyebanji appreciated the Ekiti residents for passing vote of confidence on him as President Tinubu with a pledge not to disappoint them.

He hailed Tinubu for his transformative policies, which according to him have reshaped the economy of the country, noting that his continuity in government will further bring development to the country.

He said his administration in the last three years has been able to fulfill his campaign promises in line with the six-pillar agenda which has positively impacted the lives of the people.

He noted that his administration has been able to make impacts in the state due to the bold and audacious reforms of President Tinubu which he said has freed more resources to the sub-nationals.

The event was attended by prominent leaders from within and outside the state including Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa ; the Senate leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the chairman of the Nigeria Port AAuthority, Senator Dayo Adeyeye.

    • I won’t leave PDP, Ekiti ex-governor promises

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has given reasons for his confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will win his re-election in the 2027 general election.

He said the coalition of opposition figures in the country cannot stop the President’s re-election.

Fayose, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said President Tinubu remains unbeatable in the next general election owing to his leadership qualities and understanding of Nigeria’s political systems.

The former governor spoke yesterday on a programme aired on Adaba 88.9 FM in Akure, the Ondo State capital, and monitored by our correspondent.

“I do not deceive myself. President Tinubu will win in 2027. Although I’m not a member of his party [APC] but he will surely win and get re-elected again. If you remember, Asiwaju [Tinubu] was not supported by his party in 2023.

“Those against him then even came up with all manner of things that could stop him. You could remember what former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, did with our naira to stop him.

“Even the late (President) Muhammadu Buhari did not support him, but he still won. It’s because Tinubu understands politics and the game. He would win again; I can bet it with anyone. So, is it now that those who called themselves the coalition will now defeat him? No, I don’t deceive myself,” he said.

Fayose stressed that his support for President Tinubu was “personal”.

The former governor said he remained in the PDP and would not leave for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite the cracks and division in the opposition party.

He predicted a bleak future for the PDP, warning that the main opposition may not even finish among the top three in the 2027 general election.

“So, I will never defect. I will never go to APC. When your family is in a crisis, do you leave the party? No. I’d better be there and be fighting within and see to the election exercise,” he said.

Looking ahead, Fayose assessed the likely political fortune of a former Anambra State governor and the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr Peter Obi.

He said: “Mr Peter Obi will come second. The PDP will come fourth in the 2027 general election.”

According to him, the PDP has been left in ‘carcass’ with the defection of its key members to the African Democratic Party (ADC) and the ruling APC.

Fayose also berated the leadership of the PDP for undermining him, despite his sacrifices to the development of the party.

The former Ekiti State governor noted that his support for ex-Rivers State governor and current Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike during the PDP crisis was out of respect.

“There’s nothing to destroy again in PDP because it’s no longer a party. I laboured in this party and, to whom much is given, much is also expected. I have paid my dues for the PDP. The majority of them in the ADC today drew the strength of the PDP, including Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, and Nasir El-Rufai,” he said.

“I’m not a member of the APC, but those who accuse me of anti-party then are now leaving the PDP in droves. The problem of the PDP is self-inflicted. The party is in even more trouble and shambles.

“Obi was a PDP governor in Anambra, and Atiku Abubakar was a Vice President who continued to come in and exit. But Wike stayed in the party, funded the party, and you don’t want me to support such a person?” Fayose queried.

He solicited support for Ekiti State Governor Abiodun Oyebanji ahead of the state governorship election.

The former governor described those against Oyebanji’s re-election as enemies of progress.

Fayose’s ex-deputy gov dumps PDP, set to join ADC

A former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Professor Kolapo Olusola-Eleka, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Olusola-Eleka disclosed this in a letter dated July 24 and addressed to his Okeruku Ward 2 chairman in Ikere-Ekiti, Ikere local government area of the state.

In a copy of the letter made available to our correspondent on Thursday, the ex-deputy governor hinged his decision on the party’s failure to provide a platform for credible opposition and leadership in the country.

The professor of building technology, who is the PDP governorship candidate in the 2018 election, served as the Deputy Governor between 2014 and 2018 under the former Governor Ayodele Fayose-led administration.

The letter reads, “I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective today.

“My sincere appreciation goes to the party leadership at all levels, as well as to the numerous members and supporters who have stood by me over the years in Ekiti State and beyond.

The PDP has offered me notable platforms for service, including the opportunity to serve as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2014 and 2018, and as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2018 governorship election.

“I remain deeply grateful for the trust and responsibilities vested in me. However, after deep consultations and reflection, I have concluded that the party has significantly derailed from the path of constructive opposition and credible leadership that once defined its identity. Consequently, I find it difficult to continue associating with the PDP in its current state.

“I wish the party success in its future endeavours”, it added.

Although Olusoka-Eleka did not disclose his next political destination, multiple sources within his political family say he may join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, has brought relief to motorists and commuters plying the Ado-Ijan-Ilumoba road by repairing the deplorable portions of the road.

The road, which links Ekiti to Kogi State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had been in a terrible state, causing suffering for road users.

Fayose, who had travelled from Abuja to Ekiti through the road, was moved by the plight of the motorists and commuters and decided to intervene.

He provided trucks loaded with hardcore stones and levelled the badly damaged portions of the road, thereby making it accessible for motorists.

Speaking in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital on Sunday, the PDP Chieftain lamented the deplorable condition of federal roads in the state, saying the sufferings of the people have become unbearable.

He said, “I travelled in from Abuja on Wednesday. I decided to come by road to get a feeling of what the people are feeling. I discovered that the road is very bad. On getting to Ilumoba, I realised that the road was very bad, and there were many trucks, buses, and vehicles stuck on the road, and they could not move.

“When I alighted from my car to view the portions, some of the drivers and other road users told me they have been sleeping there for five, six days to one week, sleeping on the floor with mosquitoes biting them. Some of them are on business trips carrying goods and products, some are even carrying perishable goods. They cannot deliver them, and they cannot reunite with their families.

“Moved by the ugly situation, I promised to fix the road so that it can be accessible for them, and it is the promise that I have come to fulfil today. We are not in government but just to help the road users in our own little way,” he said.

He appealed to the federal government to intervene and rehabilitate dilapidated roads in the state to reduce the suffering of the people.

“In Ekiti, we don’t have good roads, no electricity, no water. It is quite unfortunate; if you come through Abuja, as you can see, this road is very bad. If you come through Aramoko, it is the same thing, same story everywhere.

“This is the road leading to Ekiti airport, and the facility has been under lock and key. The federal government should come to our aid.

“I am using this medium to appeal to our President, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to look into our situation in Ekiti State. Our people are suffering, there is hunger in the land, our youths are riding okada, no jobs, no electricity, no water, just like we are in the jungle, yet we have allocations every month,” Fayose stated.

A stranded truck driver, Abdullahi Kamilu, expressed gratitude to Fayose, saying that the road was very bad and that the federal government should assist in fixing it.

Another stranded truck driver, Mr Taiwo Ishola, also commended Fayose’s efforts, saying that good roads were essential for the enjoyment of democracy.

Mr Tunde Adejumo, a traveller returning from Kaduna to Lagos, said that he had spent over a week on the road due to the deplorable state of the road and praised Fayose’s initiative.

Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose was close to tears yesterday at the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

He was reacting to the court’s verdict, which discharged and acquitted him of all 11 counts of alleged N6.9 billion fraud.

When he stepped out of the courtroom, Fayose knelt on the ground to praise God.

He also expressed gratitude to his legal team, saying God had finally freed him from the burden of a criminal trial after seven years.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, discharged and acquitted the former governor in the case the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) filed against him.

The court upheld a no-case submission filed by the defence.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had re-arraigned Fayose and his company, Spotless Investment Limited, on July 2, 2019, on an 11-count charge bordering on money laundering and theft to the tune of N6.9 billion. The case was initially filed on October 22, 2018, before Justice Mojisola Olatoregun.

At the last adjourned hearing on May 19, 2025, Fayose’s counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), argued that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case against his client. He averred that Abiodun Agbele, alleged to be a co-conspirator in the transaction, was not charged alongside Fayose.

“The predicate offences on which these charges are based do not hold water. Criminal breach of trust and conspiracy are distinct charges, yet no co-conspirator was docked with the defendant,” Agabi argued.

Counsel to the second defendant, Spotless Investment Limited, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), also adopted the no-case submission.

But the prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), urged the court to dismiss the no-case submissions. He referred to a counter-affidavit and written address, dated May 8, 2025, stating that the defendants failed to adequately explain the suspicious financial transactions.

Submitting that the defendants failed to explain the suspicious financial transactions, he also queried why Fayose did not use his personal bank account for the transactions, “if they were clean”.

The prosecution lawyer averred that a prosecution witness and an investigator with the EFCC, Abubakar Madaki, had testified that the former governor used associates to purchase properties in Nigeria and abroad.

“These are associates who later denied ownership of the properties, even though Fayose had claimed them in his statement,” he added.

Jacobs also referenced the testimony of former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, who said Fayose personally requested the funds in cash and introduced Agbele to coordinate the delivery. The lawyer argued that this required a defence from the accused.

In his ruling, Justice Aneke held that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants and discharged and acquitted them.

Reacting to the verdict, Jacobs announced that the EFCC would obtain the certified true copy (CTC) of the judgment and prepare for an appeal.

Jacobs questioned why Fayose did not use his personal bank account if the transactions were legitimate. He further noted that EFCC investigator Abubakar Madaki had testified that Fayose used associates to purchase properties in Nigeria and abroad—associates who later denied ownership, despite Fayose claiming the properties in his statement.

BREAKING: Court frees Fayose of money laundering charges

A Federal High Court in Lagos has discharged and acquitted former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose of all charges in the long-running N2.2 billion money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke in a ruling delivered Tuesday morning, upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, on the ground that the EFCC had failed to establish a prima facie case warranting him to enter a defence.

Fayose had faced trial for several years over allegations of money laundering and financial misappropriation during his time as governor of Ekiti State.
