    APC: Fayose got N22b refund

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State yesterday insisted that Governor Ayo Fayose collected N22 billion refund on federal projects executed by his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The party advised the governor to stop deceiving the people, saying the truth came to light during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential campaign through a former minister.

A statement yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, faulted the governor’s claims on the cost per kilometre of roads built by Fayemi.

It said the former governor engaged contractors with the lowest cost without compromising job quality.

The party added that such roads and other infrastructure were incomparable with the ones executed by Fayose, which collapsed barely six months after they were opened.

It said there was no truth in Fayose’s claim that the contractor working on the dualisation of Ado-Ikere-Ondo State boundary abandoned the job.

“It was Fayose who cancelled the contract and directed the contractor to use the money he collected to build some roads in Bawa Estate area of Ado-Ekiti.

“Who does not know that Ado-Ikere-Ondo road boundary construction is costlier than Bawa Estate road?

“But the governor has not told the people the contract variation cost he collected from the contractor and the remaining fund was diverted to Afao-Ekiti, his town,” Olatubosun explained.

He added: “His claim that Fayemi’s cost of road per kilometre is expensive is not only false but also ridiculous.

“The truth of the matter is that the cost of the roads per kilometre awarded by Fayemi’s government is the cheapest in the country even cheaper than the then PDP-controlled Federal Government cost.

‘It is an afterthought and diversionary for Fayose to now claim that the Federal Government did not approve federal roads built by the state.

‘This is a devious way by Fayose to cover up his tracks after collecting N22 billion refund on roads and N2 billion ecological fund.

“This was revealed by former Minister of State for Works, Dayo Adeyeye, during ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign rally in Ado-Ekiti.

“Adeyeye should know the details of construction works in his home state, particularly for such a man with burning ambition to become  governor and we have every reason to believe him.

“Ekiti workers and people are asking what has Fayose done with the money that he cannot pay their salary? This is heartless and wicked.”

Olatubosun said the party had been vindicated by the new revelation that Ekiti State is not on the list of states being owed by the Federal Government, adding that denying collecting a refund on federal projects was no longer tenable.

‘Up till now, the governor has not shown Ekiti people his development programme.

“All he has been talking about is debts. Nobody knows anything about his assets, as he has refused to declare them,” Olatubosun said.

He added that the governor must tell Ekiti people how he had been spending their money, insisting that he must show his development plan to the people.

  • APC absolves Fayemi of N4b fraud allegation

APC absolves Fayemi of N4b fraud allegation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has risen in stout defence of former Governor Kayode Fayemi over the Peoples Democratic Party’s claim that he diverted about N4 billion state funds to the party.

The APC described the PDP allegation as laughable and an attempt to divert the attention of the people of Ekiti from the allegation that Governor Ayodele Fayose allegedly paid himself N720 million as salaries and allowances for his unfinished first term.

The APC which also described the PDP allegation as an afterthought wondered why it took the ruling party eight months to come out with the allegation, noting that Fayemi had times without number challenged Fayose to proceed to anti-corruption agencies if the governor has any concrete evidence against him (Fayemi).

While insisting that Fayose and PDP’s resort to “old practice of falsehood and blackmail” to divert Ekiti people’s attention from proven cases of sharp practices in governance won’t succeed, the APC challenged the governor to offer explanation on the N720 million salary bazaar and N650 million deducted monthly into the purse of an “election contractor.”

The PDP had on Sunday alleged that Fayemi diverted over N4 billion raised from workers’ deductions “for sharing from time to time in the APC secretariat in the four years that his administration lasted.”

The umbrella party also claimed that the ‘deal’ was exposed during the workers’ verification exercise, claiming that it obtained the information from some workers “involved.”

The APC in a statement issud on Monday by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said the latest allegation from the ruling party came because it (APC) has put the Fayose-led government on the spot on the governor’s temerity to award himself N720 million financial entitlements from his unfinished first term at a period he couldn’t pay workers’ salaries.

He challenged Fayose to provide evidence to the whole world by approaching the statutory agencies charged with responsibilities of fighting graft or shut up and stop insulting the sensibilities of Ekiti people with banal and unsubstantiated allegations.

  • Fayose rejects Mimiko as PDP Governors’ Forum chair

Fayose rejects Mimiko as PDP Governors’ Forum chair

A fresh crisis appears to be brewing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has rejected  Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko as chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum.

Fayose has rallied some other governors in the party to kick against Mimiko’s emergence.

He has petitioned the national leadership of the party to intervene before the matter degenerates into a full blown crisis.

A source at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja was quoted to have confirmed the receipt of the petition against Mimiko. The party’s National Working Committee (NWC) will be meeting the party’s governors today to ironing out the matter.

The aggrieved governors were said to have protested that the choice of Mimiko did not follow due process on grounds that Mimiko defected to the PDP only last year.

Mimiko emerged chairman of the Forum last week the governors’ meeting in Abuja, where only six of the party’s 13 governors and two deputies were present.

Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio is the pioneer chairman of the Forum, a position he relinquished at the expiration of his tenure on May 29.

  • CNPP to Fayose: speak on N650m deductions

CNPP to Fayose: speak on N650m deductions

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Ekiti State has called on Governor Ayo Fayose to break his silence on the N650 million allegedly being deducted monthly from the state’s federal allocation into the purse of an unnamed “election contractor”.

The umbrella body of registered political parties said it was no longer comfortable with the governor’s silence.

It said the statements by his aides on the matter were neither enough nor convincing since the money belongs to the people.

In a statement yesterday by the Director of Publicity and Strategy, Kunle Omotayo, the group said the furore generated by the revelations required an urgent response from Fayose to calm the frayed nerves of citizens.

The CNPP said it was Colonel Onot Ngene who first blew the whistle on the alleged deduction, after which a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Director of Research, Chief Dele Falegan and the All Progressives Congress (APC) spoke on the issue.

It regretted that rather than reacting to the issues raised, Fayose’s aides were busy attacking personalities.

They said this compelled the parties to seek Fayose’s direct response.

The statement reads: “We are not unaware that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and some aides of the governor had responded  with derogatory words on all the personalities that had raised eyebrows on this alleged graft, the CNPP is however advising the PDP and its cohorts to stop exhibiting flippancy and shadow boxing on serious state matters.

“The CNPP is seriously concerned at the continuous announcement by the state government on the dwindling revenue of the federal allocation to the state inclusive of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

“When the people have been alerted to this alleged huge diversion of funds as signposted by the imbalance in government’s financial obligation to the people coupled with the recent verification of workers, yet many civil servants, pensioners and university are being owed salaries and subventions ranging from two to four months.”

Meanwhile, the CNPP commended Fayose and security agencies for their efforts in tackling kidnapping and robbery.

The body implored the governor to give adequate moral and financial support to security agencies to ensure a synergy in flushing out criminals from the state.

  • APC: Fayose got N720m salary arrears

APC: Fayose got N720m salary arrears

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of awarding N720millon to himself as salary arrears of his unfinished first term.

It said such conduct is selfish and callous for a governor who calls himself a friend of the masses.

Its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, said the governor had not paid last September salary and pensioners.

The statement reads: “Though he admitted he owes only May salary as if he has any excuse to owe workers, as we write, over 10,000 Ekiti workers are yet to receive April salary.

“This is because not all workers he claimed to have paid have actually received their salaries.

“What he has been doing is to pay 10 out of 300 workers in a ministry and then go to town with his propagandists.

“We are asking Fayose once again what he is doing with all the monies he saved from the empowerment programmes he cancelled.

“We also want to know where election contract deductions of N650 million monthly are going. Who are the beneficiaries? Are they more important than Ekiti workers?

“Who are his friends among the masses?”

Olatubosun said the purported 1,000 ghost workers discovered during the verification was a ploy to sack workers.

“His claim that 250 workers died after Fayemi left office is baffling.

“If this were so, then all Nigerian pastors must relocate to Ekiti to intercede on behalf of workers to stop mass deaths in the civil service,” he said.

Olatubosun also criticised the governor for his alleged frequent unofficial Dubai trips, saying his latest unofficial trip to South Africa where he was pictured at the departure lounge of the airport drinking beer was an all-time low for a governor.

    Governor: It’s a lie

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has denied the allegation that he awarded himself N720 million as allowances from his unfinished first term.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose said the allegation is ridiculous and illogical.

He accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of promoting falsehood.

The governor said: “From all indications, the APC has promoted falsehood to the level of a trade.

“Governor Fayose left office on October 16, 2006, eight months to the end of his tenure and Ekiti State had three governors within that period. Does it then make any sense that the same Fayose would come back eight years after to approve payment already made to three governors after him for himself?

“Let’s even assume that the eight months salary is to be paid, is the monthly salary of a governor not more than N1million? How then does N1million per month equal N720million in eight months?

“Again, Severance Allowance is 300 per cent of annual basic salary and the basic salary of a governor is not more than N2million. So can N2million in three places be equal to N720million?’’

  • Fayose seeks lawmakers’ help

Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has solicited the cooperation of the House of Assembly for the development of the state through quality legislations.

Fayose said he would need the support of the Assembly to transform the state through the implementation of his administration’s six-point Restoration Agenda.

The governor spoke yesterday at the opening of a three-day retreat for the lawmakers at Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, Ikogosi-Ekiti.

The theme of the retreat is “The Place of Legislature in Democracy”.

Represented by Deputy Governor Kolapo Olusola, Fayose said the retreat became necessary to sharpen the skills of the lawmakers.

The Speaker, Kola Oluwawole, regretted what he called “the cat and mouse relationship” that existed between the last Assembly and the executive.

    Fayose spotted in South Africa

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose was spotted late Sunday  evening at the Johannesburg International airport in South Africa  on his way back from  a trip.

Accompanied by only one aide, Fayose joined passengers waiting to board the South African Airways 11 pm flight to Lagos.

He exchanged greetings with some of the Nigerian passengers who were surprised to see him.

The governor eventually joined the plane and sat in the economy section on the journey back to Lagos.

  • Fayose seeks Ekiti legislators’ cooperation

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has solicited the cooperation of members of the House of Assembly for the development of the state through quality legislation.

Fayose explained that he would need the support of the Assembly to transform the state through the implementation of his administration’s six-point restoration agenda.

The governor spoke on Monday while declaring open a three-day retreat for the newly-elected House of Assembly members held at Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, Ikogosi Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.

The theme of the retreat is:”The Place of Legislature in Democracy.”

Represented by his deputy, Kolapo Olusola, Fayose noted that the retreat became necessary to sharpen the skills of the new legislators in the art of lawmaking which was their primary assignment in the Assembly.

He congratulated the legislators on their election and inauguration as members of the Fifth Assembly, saying their assumption of office conferred on them onerous responsibilities to live up to the expectation of the electorates.

He noted that apart from lawmaking, the legislators should not fail in their duties of giving their constituencies quality representation and performing their oversight functions.

The governor revealed that many executive bills would be forwarded to the Assembly for passage into laws to aid good governance and welfare of Ekiti people.

While looking forward to a harmonious working relationship with the Assembly members, Fayose demanded their loyalty to ensure smooth running of government.

  • ‘Why we impeached Fayose in 2006’

‘Why we impeached Fayose in 2006’

A former member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Omoniyi Ajaja, on Friday gave reasons why the state lawmakers impeached Governor Ayo Fayose in 2006.

He was reacting to the comments by Governor Fayose that those lawmakers that impeached him at the time had died politically.

Ajaja said in a statement made available to reporters in Akure,  Ondo State, that it was better for the governor to see the impeachment saga as an experience in his political life rather than castigating the lawmakers that impeached him.

He maintained that Fayose should thank God for his second coming, stressing that the 2006 impeachment was done by the lawmakers to save the state from anarchy.

He said majority of those lawmakers that participated in the exercise had at one time or the other held several other political positions within and outside the state, adding that some of them are still relevant in the politics of the state.

The governor while inaugurating the new Ekiti House of Assembly last Friday declared had said “impeach me, risk political death. Those that impeached him in 2006 had died politically today.”

Ajaja, who was the Chief Whip of the second Ekiti Assembly, described the statement as “too mean” for a governor and that it was an attempt  to intimidate the current Assembly members.

  • Cleric to Fayose: Your problems not over yet

Cleric to Fayose: Your problems not over yet

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has been warned not to get carried away by his escape from impeachment by former All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers.

The General Overseer of Hour of Mercy Prayer Ministry, Prophet Muyideen Kasali, warned the governor to pray harder to escape crises lying ahead of him and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola.

The cleric, who spoke on Wednesday during a special prayer programme organized by his church, declared that “Fayose should not relax in prayer and supplication because the battle is not over yet.”

Kasali said: “I want to urge Governor Fayose to continue seeking the face of God in a new dimension. He shouldn’t relax yet because the battle isn’t yet over.

“He must, with all humility and repentance, seek God’s face for him to conquer the enemies outside and within. He needs a divine intervention and serious prayers.”

Kasali also hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering the relocation of the Military Command to deal with the Boko Haram insurgency.

He said the step would help in stemming the tides of killing and displacement of Nigerians from their homes in the northeast part of the country.

Ksali said: “The relocation of the operational services of the Nigeria Army will fast-track action on how to rout Boko Haram because it has become a problem to our nation.

“No President will treat insurgency that had led to the killing of over 30,000 Nigerians and rendered about three million homeless with levity and the President had really shown that he is sincere with his electioneering campaign to make Nigeria safe for all citizens.

“Apart from the wanton killings and destruction, Boko Haram had destroyed property worth several billions of naira in Nigeria across ethnic and religious lines.

“Our nation is being confronted with too many socio-economic and political problems at this time to be witnessing all this.

“Enough of these senseless killings and this relocation will make Nigerian Army to be aware that the fight is a full war and should not be taken as a part time struggle.”
